hahaha hopefully, investors will be enticed to put up buildings even as tall only as 15 stories. That would be a good start. I'm thinking that it won't be long, Bacolod is really progressing.:banana::banana:

yup i think once the airport is transferred to Silay, Bacolod will be ready for high rise buildings :cheers::cheers: (crossing my fingers...)

SM city Bacolod Night view

This SM night shot is really cool. Bredco's harbor is beaming with lights. And i noticed the solar panels atop Sylvia Manor's roofing. Good job to the owners(include @postergirl & @kyapjoco). Though costly(solar panels), one must consider the savings it'll bring about to the hotel. Not to mention, its also healthy to the environment. :okay::okay:

@Derf: Were you with SSC folks when you watched the pyromagic event at SM?

@Wild: Good morning dude. I was referring to the street at SM. I think thats Rizal st instead of Rosario st.

Mayor creates
clean, green team
BARES GAINS OF BACOLOD 2007
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday announced the creation of the Bacolod City Clean and Green Coordinating Action Team that he said will concentrate on the clean and green program of the city, and includes environment protection and garbage collection.

Under Executive Order No. 23 that created the team, Leonardia also designated Councilor Greg Gasataya, chairman of the City's Committee on Environment and Ecology, as head of the action team.

The team will be composed of representatives from different government offices, barangays, non-government organizations or private professional and technical groups.

Leonardia said the function of the team is to review, evaluate and assess the city-wide environmental management and planning for Bacolod . It will propose environmental mapping and conduct research studies, strategic planning and surveys on particular environment concerns, he said.

The team will also conduct overall supervision and monitoring of effective implementation of the City's Environmental Management Program such as but not limited to Solid Waste Management Program, Watershed Development Program, and other environmental activities, Leonardia said.

It will spearhead the city's campaign on environmental protection, and propose legislative policy for a better Environment Management System for Bacolod City , he added.

FOCUS ON SWM

Gasataya said the team was convened last week and they have come up with short term and long term proposals to address the issues and problems pertaining to the environment and would specifically concentrate on the city's SWM.

In a meeting last week they were able to identify 26 to 30 mini dumpsites all over the city, Gasataya said. After they identified them, Leonardia created a monitoring team and assigned about 50 persons to man the mini dumpsites from Dec. 16-31, he said.

The team will also try to eliminate the mini dumpsites all over the city, he added.

Gasataya said the team is proposing the implementation of waste segregation and is considering the privatization of garbage collection in the city. He said they will meet with all the barangay captains and all the committee chairs of the Committee on Environment next week on the city's SWM program and possibly come up with an intensive education campaign on SWM in the schools and barangays.

PILOT AREAS

Gasataya said the pilot areas for segregation will be all government offices in the city. Engineer Efren Canlas, meanwhile, said 10 out of the 27 dump trucks of the city need repair, and they need 55 more dump trucks.

Leonardia said the barangays play a bigger role in the implementation of the SWM program of the city. He said the City Development Council will meet today with barangay captains and the SWM program will be among the things they will be oriented on.

Gasataya said a clean and green contest will be launched in the barangays and awards and citations will be given to those who excel.

DREDGING RESUMED

Meanwhile, Councilor Roberto Rojas said the dredging operations of the city in the Banago Creek was temporarily stopped during Christmas day, resumed yesterday. He said the city has also started clearing operations near the NN warehouse at Purok Riverside to create a mini dike.

Rojas said an additional 12 families have signified that they will voluntarily vacate Purok Mahimulaton in Banago because of the ongoing clearing operations in the area.

He said the city is facilitating the release of financial assistance to these families and they have three relocation sites to choose from – the Kimara, the boulevard or the Vista Alegre- Granada relocation sites.

Rojas said the city is also conducting clearing operations behind the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and will proceed to the Mambuloc Creek.*CGS

Just my suggestion, I hope the management of L'Fisher will take notice of those advertising/announcement banners placed in front of the hotel. Its making the facade of the hotel look ugly. I guess it wont hurt their finances if they setup a billboard structure for current and future hotel events. They can place it at the side/front area of the hotel.:)

korek... kalaw ay gd na da sang gina ubra nila..

in this modern day of digital advertising and marketing. i guess your right in saying that they should invest in somethine that is new and atttractive. dira nila ibutang sa kilid.

or the least that they can do now is scrap these welcome signs and replace it with tarps.

^^ And whats ironic pa, that part where those ugly banners are placed is the admin office of the hotel. With hotel competitions getting fierced in Bacolod nowadays, hopefully they wont take this lightly. Or else they might be gobbled up by their rivals in due time. Come 2008, Planta Hotel/Residences will soon become Bacolod's next icon and of course the elegant Sylvia Manor hotel.:)

I agree with Boy's statement. Private sector is a very important component in making a city conducive for business. The LGU must give the feeling that they're helping and part of the progress. This sector is a very important stakeholder in a city or a province. ;)

BNEFIT to register
with SEC: chairman

The Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communication Technology is seeking registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock, non-profit organization, Bacolod City Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, BNEFIT chairperson, said yesterday.

Batapa said 15 incorporators signed the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws during their meeting on December 21.

Through its SEC registration, BNEFIT aims to pursue ICT- readiness and competitiveness and sustain the gains of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental as part of the Philippine Cyber Corridor, she said.

BNEFIT is a collective effort of the academe and human resource development, real estate and business and local governments to undertake projects and programs complementary to the vision of making Bacolod City and Negros Occidental as viable locations for ICT and business process outsourcing services.

Batapa-Sigue said they plan to assist local government units and the national government especially in designing programs that will complement the educational system by integrating ICT into it to produce a more competent and job-ready workforce.

Aside from Batapa-Sigue, other incorporators of BNEFIT are Loida Acha of West Negros College; Teresa Asuncion Borromeo of Ayala Land Inc.; Julie Gretchen Dizon of Focus Pacific Communications; Dennis Jalbuena of Fernando F. Gonzaga Inc.; Richard Loveland of Teleperformance; Hans Montenegro of Convergys; Raymund Nones of Solegy LLC; Andrew Regalado of ANCorp.; Reymund Sabay of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos; Shiegfred Tan of the University of St. La Salle; Michael Tanner of Teletech; Mary Verdure Tolentino of the ITSNET Inc.; Teresa Villanueva of Lasaltech; and Agnes Villar of HERRA Diversified Holdings Corp.

BNEFIT has seventy-five members who agreed to form the federation during the first ICT conference held in Bacolod last November 15 and 16.

BNEFIT is also one of the founding members of the Philippine Federation of ICT Organizations and Councils organized by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology chaired by Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III.*

Biggest TravelXchange slated in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY, DEC 27 (PNA) -- The biggest TravelXchange undertaking will be held in Bacolod City on February 1 to 3, 2008, which will push not only the Philippines’ top tourist destination but also those within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Jennylind Cordero, Negros Occidental provincial tourism officer told PNA that the biggest TravelXchange 2008, now on its third year, will bring together sellers from different hotels, resorts, airlines, cruise lines, hospitality and leisure products, tour operators, travel agents, dive resorts, fast-craft operators and destination companies to Bacolod to offer its residents attractive tour packages and rates.

Cordero said that the Malaysian Tourism Board, A’Famosa Resort Malaysia, Microtel Inns and Suites (Phil.) Inc. Amadeus, Cebu Pacific, Greater Subic Bay Toursim Bureau, Bohol Divers Resort and Convention Center, Cebu Parklane International Hotel, DOT Region 10, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, and Cordova Village Resort are among the early confirmed participants with more expected to officially sign in.

She said the undertaking is supported by the Department of Tourism (DOT), PAGCOR, City of Bacolod, Office of the Negros Occ. Governor, Cebu Pacific and Skal International.

The three-day event, Cordero said, will also feature variety shows and dances from the different participating regions.

Attractive travel products and holiday packages will be raffled off daily during the show, she also said.

Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano is expected to join local dignitaries in opening the 3rd TravelXchange on February 1, 2008.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) will present travel product updates during the fair while tour operators, corporate accounts and group organizers from Bacolod and Iloilo will attend workshop sessions, she added.

Cordero said that organizers expect visitors to the three-day fair to be offered attractive travel packages, products and fares at low, low prices with a chance of winning free trips. (PNA)

OK, I think I'll be posting all praises and no constructive criticisms nor suggestions how about that? Happy?

Man, I have this gut feeling that constructive criticisms or even suggestions are not welcome here anymore. Wala ko ya labot kon bisan diin ka pa ukon ano ka man. And why to the point of implying comparison?

Sorry but I was very turned off by this kind of attitude...

Please, don't give malice on my suggestion. Why are you saying these words to me? Ano naging sala ko sa inyo kag ngaa amo na ang inyo nga reaksyon?

Better ask SUV, Boy or Jaywalker if I had backstabbed Bacolod or even Negros Occidental. I felt betrayed by these remarks of malice.

I suggest that you reply on PM if you want this settled because I'm always welcome for negotiations and diplomacy. I was even planning to have a SSC Iloilo-Bacolod meet sometime soon since we in Iloilo-based people don't mind about our arguments in the internet as we see you guys as our relatives as well.

is this something for Bacolod city?... care to share it?

i shared it already with you guys suv.

as mentioned, while all your posts here are highly appreciated, the truth of the matter is that these precious posts will simply be archived and it will be difficult to locate these in the future.

as such, I feel that it will be best to cross-post in another forum outside of SSC so that in the years to come, both Bacolodnons and other people who take interest in the City of Smiles can systematically look up the visual record for a certain development or track an issue about the city.

as i've also emailed, there is so much to discuss about Bacolod that we cannot all lump our posts into this one thread in SSC. this single thread cannot contain the wealth of photos and ideas posted. even this current thread, Thread 16 is already about to end and once this is archived, no one will really take the pains of doing research across Threads 1 to 15 or 16 for that matter.

my proposal was to cross-post pics and news items in another forum outside of SSC for posterity. in the end, it will be easier to track the infrastructure and economy growth of Bacolod and Negros in a more systematic manner. it will also serve well as an archive of events in the city and province years down the line. ini isa ka maayo nga handumanan para sa aton nga banwa kag probinsya.

I just read the statements. I'm surely we have to understand each other because criticisms I have to say are neither destructive nor of jealousy reigns in my mind whenever I criticize or ask bisan ano pa na nga thread ina. We should be open with how we criticize and suggestions have to be considered or not. We also should accept the fact that nothing is perfect and we cannot please all people. And some people are not meant to be ginalango-lango lang.

So in 2008, hopefully we could get along together well and stop bashing each other or somewhat implying or whatever negativity because nothing will happen, for both sides of us. History has already told us of what happened to the previous CvCs (or even potential ones) lead to nothing. To have a meaningful or truthful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, we should look upon ourselves, we have to look back on our mistakes of the past year, learn from it and see the future in a bright light and precaution.

I apologize if I've reacted in such fury, sometimes sentences are interpreted in different perspective. We should be careful with what we imply or we type. Waay man ko nagapangtanom sang kaakig kag kahilinit bisan sin-o.

Hello!

I suggest a little summary on the second post of the next Bacolod thread.
The first post would be for the intro then the second would be the summary of what has already been discussed. It's kinda nice of other threads that employ the same method. :)

Bing L: ‘2007 was a Bountiful Year’

Bacolod Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia said that 2007 was a bountiful year for Bacolod City citing the unprecedented employment generation brought by the coming in of giant investors - Shoe Mart and three dominating call centers worldwide. The city has experienced rapid growth and development when flooded by big time investors early this year.
The employment generation in 2006 was surpassed only in the two quarters of 2007. “Our growth is reflected in our 2008 budget of P1 billion or an increase of P245 million, making the city partially independent from the Internal Revenue Allotment,” he said.

He added that of the 130 local government units in the Philippines, Bacolod was adjudged as the Most Business Friendly City in the country today.

“Let us carry the momentum of 2007 to make us move forward in 2008.

Let’s protect our gains this year and we will see to it that we sustain or even improve it in 2008,” he said.
He said that, “Let us start the 2008 with high spirits and dynamism.”* (CNC)

JNO: ‘We Will Link Bacolod City to the World’

By Edith B. Colmo

As newly appointed head of Tourism, Culture and Development Council (TCDC) of Bacolod, former Cong. John N. Orola, Jr. has expressed gratitude to Mayor Evelio Leonardia for his trust and confidence, at the same time gave assurance that he will work to boost the tourism industry here.

Orola said the invitation to him by Leonardia is an opportunity in creating a new landscape for Bacolod in the areas of tourism. Hopefully, he said, he will be able to meet the expectations of the Council.
Tourism is a broad field, not only arrivals which has multiplier effects, but also preserving what is truly Negros which is our own heritage.

“We look forward to work with city officials as well as with those in the province and satellite cities with tourist attractions and potentials.

Bacolod is the sugar capital of the Philippines. We will create a new industry that can institutionalize tourism as an industry, and can compliment with the sugar industry. This will become an avenue that can link Bacolod to the rest of the world.”
Orola had been in the world tourism, will meet with the mayor on Monday to discuss on how TCDC can work, because the Council is not all planning and talking, but it is all action.*

Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (http://www.mb.com.ph/SCAU20071228112179.html)
The school on the go!

Humble beginnings

That now stands as the only state college in Northern Negros and the only science and technology state college in the Province of Negros Occidental was once the Old Sagay Barangay High School (OSBHS) that started its operation in 1970. Its foundation was made possible by former Municipal Mayor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., Barangay Captain Pedro G. Katalbas and Leopoldo Fernandez. The latter then became its first Principal and its only 10 students were its pioneer graduates.

Five years later, the passage of Batas Pambansa 359 on March, 3, 1983, was authored and sponsored by then Assemblyman Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. converted the Municipal High School into the Iloilo State College of Fisheries-Sagay Branch. Professor Pepito B. Bedia became its first designated Officer-in-Charge. In 1985, the College offered a technical course in fisheries, the Diploma in Fishery Technology. There were 10 pioneering students who took their classes in the evening. Four years later, under the leadership of Artmeio A. Violeta, baccalaureate courses were offered, which include, Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in Biology and General Science, and Bachelor of Science in Fisheries major in Aquaculture. A year after, additional major fields of specialization, such as Fish Processing Technology, Marine Fisheries and Coastal Resource Management, were added to the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries degree. This time, the College was under the leadership of Wynne S. Silva who was appointed as Officer-in-Charge in 1990.

1998 made a special mark on the history of the College. On January 9 that year, Republic Act 8448 took effect as a law converting the Iloilo State College of Fisheries-Sagay Branch into the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST). The historical law was authored and sponsored by Hon. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., Representative of the Second Congressional District of the Province of Negros Occidental. This earned the Congressman the distinction of being the "Father of NONESCOST". Those who worked with him for the passage of the law where Hon. Joseph G. Marañon, City Mayor of Sagay, Dr. Elpidio A. Locsin, Jr., President of ISCOF, and the men and women who were already then a part of the College.

On January 1, 2004, Rogelio T. Artajo took over as the third president of the college. His one-year-old administration has succeeded in opening the way for the accreditation of some of the college’s program. He forged a consortium with the Cebu State College of Science and Technology which affords the college faculty a convenient opportunity to pursue Masteral and Doctoral degrees. He established NONECOST as the only school of nursing in Northern Negros and the only government school of nursing in Negros island. His many projects for the school included the renovation of the administration building and holding of the first Tripartite Forum. This gave the students a chance to air their gripes about the faculty and the administration.

Dr. Artajo’s presidency is distinctive for its vigorous effort to establish cooperative relations with government agencies and fellow state colleges and universities. This effort is now beginning to bear fruits.

Young as it is, the College continues to grow and become the state college as envisioned by the law and its founding father, Hon. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr.. The College is providing the necessary support and equipped with the most competent and professionally trained manpower both in the academic and administrative fields. The College can become the best State College in the region and most probably the country.

History is still being written by the men and women who continuously pass through the portals of the College. More is yet to come and the College can still prove its worth, realize its vision, fulfill its mandate and attain its objectives, only for the highest ideals of education.

Present times

The current year is undoubtedly the most productive year in the history of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (MONECOST) as the school began to see results of better planning, hard work and a more or less united faculty and workforce.

The school’s physical plant has grown more than three-folds with the expansion and renovation of its existing buildings as well as the addition of new ones; the curriculum has been enriched by some 15 percent with the opening of new courses including a master’s degree in Nursing (in consortium with the Cebu State College of Science and Technology). The instruction has achieved a breakthrough with the conferment of a master’s degree on the first product of the graduate school; the economic enterprise concern has been given due attention with the assistance of foreign consultants.

All the above are directed towards a common, fixed objective – the accreditation of the school’s programs. There’s more to be done before the objective is reached, but NONESCOST now clearly has a good fighting chance to succeed.

NONESCOST’s achievements are encouragement for all NONESTICANS to continue and let unity be a means of ensuring success. With these achievements the institution also raised considerably the expectations of the people it serves and those who look up for opportunities for the betterment of life in Sagay and the district. At this stage NONESCOST no longer can afford to fail or fail and live with a clear conscience.

Nonescost’s general administration

The government of the College is vested upon the Board of Trustees as stipulated in R.A. 8292.

It approves rules and regulations and sets policies as maybe necessary to run the affairs of the College.

The College President is the Chief Executive of the College and acts as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Within the framework of existing laws, the College President exercises the general administration and supervision of all functions and operations of the College, and over all its officers, faculty and non-teaching personnel. The Chief Administrative Officer and the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, respectively assist him on administrative, finance and academic concerns of the College.

The Board of Trustees

The NONESCOST Board of Trustees is composed of the Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education, or his/her designated representative from among the Commissioners, as the Chairman of the Board. The Board of Trustees is the highest policy making body trusted to approve rules and regulations not contrary to the existing laws of the country, in order for the College to carry out its functions and operations.

The College President as Vice-Chairman of the Board, and at the same time the Chief Executive of the College, is tasked to implement policies promulgated by the Board of Trustees. He exercises general administrative and supervisory functions in all college operations and over all officers, faculty and non-teaching personnel.

Other members of the Board of Trustees are: the Chairman of the Committee on education and Culture of the Senate, Chairman of the Committee on Higher and Technical Education of the House of Representatives, Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority(NEDA), Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology(DOST), President of the NONESCOST Faculty Association, President of the NONESCOST Alumni Association, President of the Supreme Student Council and two prominent citizens of the Province of Negros Occidental who have distinguished themselves in their profession or specialization, as private sector representatives.

The Board had four (4) regular and four (4) special meetings or a total of eight (8) meetings. The Board passed sixty-six (66) resolutions in 2006.

The College Academic and Administrative Councils

To assist in the formulation of policies for approval by the Board of Trustees, the Administrative and Academic Councils of the college were created under Secs. 37 and 39, Rule IX of the IRR of R.A. 8292 with their respective powers and duties.

The first post would be for the intro then the second would be the summary of what has already been discussed. It's kinda nice of other threads that employ the same method. :)

SUV111

i shared it already with you guys suv.

as mentioned, while all your posts here are highly appreciated, the truth of the matter is that these precious posts will simply be archived and it will be difficult to locate these in the future.

as such, I feel that it will be best to cross-post in another forum outside of SSC so that in the years to come, both Bacolodnons and other people who take interest in the City of Smiles can systematically look up the visual record for a certain development or track an issue about the city.

as i've also emailed, there is so much to discuss about Bacolod that we cannot all lump our posts into this one thread in SSC. this single thread cannot contain the wealth of photos and ideas posted. even this current thread, Thread 16 is already about to end and once this is archived, no one will really take the pains of doing research across Threads 1 to 15 or 16 for that matter.

my proposal was to cross-post pics and news items in another forum outside of SSC for posterity. in the end, it will be easier to track the infrastructure and economy growth of Bacolod and Negros in a more systematic manner. it will also serve well as an archive of events in the city and province years down the line. ini isa ka maayo nga handumanan para sa aton nga banwa kag probinsya.

;)

oh!!! this is what its all about?... I prefer to post here in SSC, i dont think i can still cross post pics or posts. anyway, people are just browsing through archives like what i did before and like what other forumers did also. Its not that difficult anyway, and besides you can always repost the pics whenever you want to. :) thanks for the suggestion @sugarboy.

like bacolodnon said that medyo sulodlon na siya, heheh but when bonista sez that its only a 2hr drive from Bac to Bonista, dont believe it, heheh yes its possible to arrive in 2 hrs time, but thats if your really really speeding

bacolod to escalante will take about 2hrs 45min, and from Escalante to Bonista itll take about 15 to 20minutes, but it will be worth it gid, very reasonable if not pretty cheap prices for a fancy resort like this

entrance is only 20 pesos for adults and 12 pesos for the kids
picnic cottages: P200- P500

BOOM BACOLOD 2008

In the past year, Bacolod has surprised us with many new improvements. 2007 has been a progressive year, bagging awards and honors, and we have been proud to say that our City of Smiles has indeed become a metropolitan district. The new advances in school curriculums, new buildings and facilities have had students become more competitive in their chosen fields. New shopping centers have developed to accommodate the needs of the people as well as the tourists. The nightlife areas have expanded all throughout the city inviting Bacolodnons to get to know each other and interconnect their social circles. We crave to try what are fresh and unfamiliar, from authentic international cuisine, first-class restaurants, classy coffee shops to local dishes and delicacies and innovative and original creations from our own phomegrown chefs and cooks. Our medical services are improving with cutting-edge amenities and facilities as well as spirited and competitive doctors and nurses. The manifestation of new and unique festivals as well as the revival and enhancement of the old, sightseers and locals alike are enticed to experience the magic of what Bacolod has to offer. With these developments, 2008 holds a promise for more shockers, surprises and a more active and dynamic Bacolod.

BACOLOD CITY GOVERNMENT CENTER
this massive three-storey, neo-classical building will be the new home of the city government of Bacolod along the Carlos Hilado Highway (Circumferential Rd.). it is strategically located at the center of the city map which makes it accessible to all barangays and to escape the congestion at the central business district. It would spur further growth and development of the "East Area" which was initialized by LOPUES EAST CENTER MALL and EAST BLOCK.

Teleperformance to send employees abroad for training

GLOBAL contact center Teleperformance (TP) will be sending its employees to United States of America to enhance their teaching and training skills as another huge account is set to be launched early next year.

Call center employees Rae Anne Gedorio, Josephine Cassion Aquio, Jerry Joseph Jimenez, Rodolfo Remo, Eduardo Santos and Estela Nacionales are set to leave Bacolod for Tacoma, Washington, USA first week of January 2008 and will stay in the US until February to receive training necessary for the operations of another customer service account.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

The group is the second batch of Bacolod trainers that will be sent to USA for training. Earlier, Jose Luis Bailon and Christian Joaquin were also sent to USA for the same reason.

Last October, the company sent off employees for training in Australia. Account Manager Maria Talastas with call center trainer Cristina Ilalto and call center supervisor Davie Castillo headed the team.

2007 was an awesome year for TP, despite that the first year traditionally brings many growing pains especially in a brand new market like Negros, said Site Director Rich Loveland.

In his Christmas message emailed to TP employees, he was quoted in saying: "We started [in 2006] with almost no management with TP experience and the majority of employees with little or no call center experience. In this year we have overcome every challenges put before us, put ourselves on the global map many times and become a high performing veteran call center. We are now sending Tiger Teams to help other centers, sending ambassadors from Bacolod to many locations nationally and internationally and have progressed to the point that virtually all leadership positions can now grow from within our own ranks."

He also declared that by 2008 TP would hit the next level across the board and establish itself as a fountain of leadership and an example of greatness.
One of TP's best practices is its policy of promoting people from within the organization. Based on the record of TP's Human Resources department more than 50 employees have been promoted since January 2007-and to date there are still many different opportunities open for the newbies.

With the expansion in 2008, the company is also expecting for more local jobs over the next few months.

TP Philippines Managing Director David Rizzo meantime said it is an honor and a privilege to work with a team that has helped take Teleperformance to the top of the contact center industry.

"You've not only done great things for this organization but you've done great things for yourselves and for that, you should truly be proud," he concluded in his Christmas note sent to Teleperformance employees.

Repost:

Smaller shops mean affordable rentals among its tenants. That will also contribute to lower prices in the product/s they sell. So i guess, its okay. I hope the mall admin will keep this place attractive and clean through the years of operation. And not the typical Raon or Divi atmosphere.:)

they will be utilizing the back portion of the mall, this will make RPB look even more classy. there will be a food strip, new stores, an event center and a bigger dept store. :)

SPORTS MUNA TAYO...

Bacoleño holder of two
world Muay Thai titles
BY CEDELF TUPAS

Unknown to many, a Bacoleño is one of the global icons in the contact sport of Muay Thai.

Bacolod-born Vince Patrick Esteban Casa Soberano has been involved with the martial art for 33 years and owns two World Professional Muay Thai Federation crowns.

Muay Thai, referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", because the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in battle, is the national sport of Thailand but is growing all over the world.

The 43-year-old Soberano's latest conquest is the WPMTF welterweight title, which he won by knockout over a Thai opponent in the prestigious King's Cup before 60,000 at the Suanlaam Park infront of the Royal Palace in Bangkok , Thailand early this month.

An alumnus of the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, Soberano, now based in Beijing , China , where he runs a Muay Thai school, is also the world lightweight champion, a distinction he earned after his victory in the Queen's Birthday World Championship Superfights in August also in Bangkok .

Soberano won both titles by knockout. It also marked the first time a Filipino won during the King and Queen's Birthday.

In the Queen's Cup, he sent Thai veteran Sompchak into the canvass for good with a wicked right hand on the kisser for the crown in front of 50,000 people. The fight was aired live on Thai national television.

There are 50 countries under the WPMTF with 300 to 500 fighters.

In a professional Muay Thai career spanning three decades, Soberano, fighting and training for Kaersamwit Gym, has a record of 28 wins and 2 losses spiked by 20 knockouts and 6 TKOs. Soberano also dabbles in mixed martial arts, where he logs a professional record of 8 wins and 2 losses.

Soberano has literally fought all over the world and is at the pinnacle of the sport.

Despite his stature, Soberano remains grounded.

“I'm not the best fighter out there. I'm just probably the most determined,” Soberano, who is in Bacolod for a short vacation, told the DAILY STAR in a telephone interview last night.

“I train harder than any other fighter and I'm really passionate about the sport,” he added. “I fight without pressure”.

And with passion, comes the drive and hunger for more glory.

He “retired” from his job as a software engineer in the US last year to focus on running his gym, which he manages with in China and his fighting career.

After conquering Muay Thai, Soberano said he is pursuing K-1, a combat sport that combines stand up techniques from Muay Thai, Karate, Taekwondo, Savate, San shou, Kickboxing and traditional Boxing to determine the single best stand-up fighter in the world.

In fact, he said he is scheduled for a 155 kg. division qualifying fight in Japan on Jan. 18, 2008.

He is also set to compete in Europe's version of K-1 in Belgium in The Netherlands and Belgium later this year.

Soberano, a father of two kids, believes his involvement with Muay Thai is his “destiny”.

It appeared that the road to the top was improbable, considering that Soberano was not the “athletic type” when he was a kid.

“I had heart problems. I was flat-footed, I had asthma,” he said. “They say I was more of an artistic guy and I could barely hold a basketball. I tried some karate. I liked it but I wasn't that good,” he added.

But that all changed when he was 10 as he joined his father, Joe Soberano, a lawyer, in a visit to Bangkok .

During that trip, Vincent got hooked to Muay Thai after watching a professional fight at the historic Lumpini Stadium.

“I haven't seen anything like it before. The two fighters started slow then started to go at it in the second round. At an instant, the other fighter was knocked out cold. I was shocked but I really loved the sport the first time I saw it,” he recalled.

Vincent was enrolled by his father in a Muay Thai school the following day. Initially, he trained for three months. In the next few years, he would spend his summers in Bangkok , honing his skills.

Although he has spent most of his time abroad, Soberano has not failed to carry the name of the Philippines each time he steps into the ring.

“I always represent the Philippines . When I turned pro in 1989 or 1990 in Las Vegas , I was asked what country I will represent and I told them I'm from the Philippines ,” he added.

In a report on China Daily posted on Soberano's website www.vpecs.com, Soberano was inspired to share his skills and opened his first Black Tiger Academy in San Diego in 1991.

“Soberano moved to Beijing in 2004 to run an outsourcing office and then started his own software consulting company in 2005. However, the lure of the ring never faded. Tired of shadowboxing in his office, Soberano looked for a place to teach the art he had practiced since his boyhood,” the report continued.

Soberano said it's not the economic benefits that lure people into Muay Thai, which is dwarfed by boxing and mixed martial arts in terms of commercial interest.

“They fight for prestige, not money,” he said, adding that the purse for a regular fight is between $1,000 to $5,000.

There is a sense of fulfillment in fighting the best, he added.

Soberano said his biggest purse was $25,000 when he fought in Japan .

As a sport, Muay Thai, Soberano said, is not as complicated as other people might think.

The premise in Muay Thai is that it's 50 percent conditioning, he said.

“You can learn the moves in a week,” he said. “It's not complicated, there's no fancy stuff”.

“But to be able to use it effectively, you have to really be well- conditioned. The hard part is being able to stay in good shape,” he added.

“For professional fighters, the training is tough. You have to be ready to train for 7-8 hours a day, six days a week,” he said.

Soberano said he will gladly oblige if he is called to help out the Philippine National Muay Thai teams.
