@flar: Its because SM's ideal location for malls are the ones situated in between harbors and the city's commercial district. Such examples are SM MOA, SM City-Cebu and SM City-Bacolod.:)

Happy New Year to all.

Wow nag landscaping na ang San Parq ba. Very nice.

Grabe pala ang screening ng Convergys no, I've known a teamleader from Teletech who applied but did not qualified.
That's good because employees will have to think twice before resigning from their company, and Convergys will not accept them for some reason that others are just going call center hopping or just aiming for a bigger salary.

It pays to be loyal... Remember from the previous post..... Teleperformance is sending their employees in the US... You could be one of them if you would just have to do your job well.... same principle applied with Teletech as well...Do your job well and money will just follow:okay::okay:

actually i went to SM a while ago and still, its full. :) I think Bacolod is ready to accomodate international coffee shops like Starbucks...Gloria Jeans already invaded Bacolod and they are really doing good business. :)

Coffee shops doesnt earn much to coffee alone, they earn big through their fraps coz its much expensive than their coffee. :) And migo NG, most figaro drinkers in Bacolod order Fraps.

10 of 23 infra projects for 2007 completed

MANILA -- About 10 of the 23 priority infrastructure projects for 2007 had been completed by the administration in 2007, Presidential Management Staff director Cerge Remonde said.

He said the 10 projects amounting P36.12 billion were completed as of November 30.

Remonde added that the 13 others, worth P25.15 billion, were supposed to be completed by December 31 but no immediate data on the status of the projects was available.

Of the priority infrastructure projects, those completed were the Bohol Circumferential Road, Diosdado Macapagal Bridge, New Iloilo and New Bacolod Airports, the Ports of Jagna, Maasin, Cawit, and Tubigon, the 950-kilowatt (KW) Photovoltaic Power Plant in Cagayan de Oro City, and 210-megawatt (MW) Clean Coal Plant in Phividec.
Remonde said the completion of the bridges, ports, and airports particularly the Bohol Circumferential Road, the ports of Jagna, Maasin, and Tubigon, and the airports of New Iloilo and New Bacolod, would improve the entry points to Central Philippines and help boost the tourism industry.
"The development and improvement of these points of entry will make it easier and more convenient for tourists to visit the Central Philippines, thus spurring greater economic activity in the Super region," he said.

Remonde said the commissioning of the 950-KW Photovoltaic Power Plant and 210-MW Clean Coal Plant in Phividec, meanwhile, are expected to contribute to the enhancement of the Mindanao Super region competitive edge in agribusiness and promotion of tourism with the improvement of existing infrastructure.

He said the 13 other projects that were due for completion in December include the Bicol Emergency Power Restoration; Subic Bay, Batangas, Lucena, Limasawa, Naval and Ubay Ports; Cotabato and Siargao Airports; and constructions and rehabilitations of farm-to-market roads (FMRs), cold chain facilities, small irrigation, and hospital upgrading projects.

These projects, he said, aim to help promote the agribusiness industry and contribute to making the country "a globally competitive industrial and services center, with a seamless movement of goods, services, and people."

In a related development, Remonde who also heads the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Inter Agency Coordinating Committee and the Infrastructure Pro-Performance Steering Committee, said that as of October 2007, a total of P198.67 billion had already been released by the government to 378,458 MSMEs resulting in a job generation of about 2.93 million.

He said this brings to a total of P225.44 billion worth of funds released to 3.56 million microfinance and MSMEs beneficiaries since the program started in 2001.

This also helped create 2,091,250 jobs in the last six years.

Remonde said both the MSMEs assistance and infrastructure programs are "key components of the President's social payback program and are strategic to employment generation and job creation."

He said in 2008, they expect more and bigger challenges to come "not the least of which is the gap between actual performance and public perception."

Attention is focused on the perception deficit. Still, "we are confident that this will change in the coming years," he said.

"Work, according to Khalil Gibran, is love made visible. In time, that perception gap will close," he added. (JMR/Sunnex)

Happy New Year to you all! I just arrived late yesterday afternoon. I hope to see you guys sometime next week or over the weekend if I feel better.

Zy, do avoid taking very straightforward pictures of expats in our city. They will find it annoying. My suggestion is, take a very good shot at the entire area so as to relegate them to the background. That way, they won't feel like they are being stalked.

oh, about these pics,....this was already trimmed...i know how to make a shot pretending like they are not the subject of my pic. sometimes i dont even direct my camera on them....i just make a snap of my cam and trim it down so it will look better. you can see that some are blurry...thats because I'm walking while taking their pics. I know that these people will feel awkward when they see people taking pictures of them...

Thanks for the suggestion anyway, but i appreciate it more when its being sent through PM :)

US firm E-Cane Fuel Corporation is scouting for an equity partner that will inject $ 30 million funding for its planned ethanol processing facility in Central Luzon.

The project, which targets ethanol production of 150 million liters annually starting 2009, will require total investment of $ 168 million.

The US company said it already invested $ 2.0 million to jumpstart the project’s implementation.

The equity portion for the proposed facility will amount to $ 56 million; and the partner has to cough up $ 30 million of the total.

"We are seeking an equity partner to provide at least $ 30 million…the remainder of the financing will consist of project finance debt," the biofuels company noted.

On the loan component, the US firm disclosed that talks are being carried out with the Development Bank of the Philippines, Asian Development Bank and the International Finance Corporation.

E-Cane said it already finalized deal for the 2,000 hectares it will need for a sugar cane nursery; while another 15,000 hectares will be allotted for the planned distillery.

At construction stage, the company disclosed that it will utilize technology that shall be supplied by the PRAJ Industries of India; while Thyseen Krup will be engaged for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract of the proposed mill and the electric cogeneration facility.

Apart from its ethanol output, the proposed ECane facility will be designed to produce up to 34 megawatts of electricity. The bulk of about 20 MW will be sold to distribution utilities; while the balance will be for in-house use of the ethanol facility.

The mandated 5.0 percent blend of ethanol products to gasoline will start next year, as prescribed under the Biofuels Act.

While ethanol importation could be a "comfortable option", Biofuels Law author Juan Miguel Zubiri said he prefers domestic production to fill the demand.

If local ethanol supply will not suffice to meet demand, he noted that the industry can always fall back on a lower ethanol blend of 3.0 percent.

When the law was still under deliberations in 2006, the Department of Energy (DoE) has been assuring inflow of investments for ethanol facilities, but until now, all these have yet to materialize.

The San Carlos Bioenergy facility in Negros will be the first ethanol plant to provide for the downstream oil industry’s requirement. Its output has been primarily committed to leading oil industry player Petron Corporation. Pilipinas Shell Petron Corporation, for its part, has stricken a deal with Basic Energy for an ethanol processing facility that shall supply its requirements.

Though this industry is quite new, still the prospects are bright esp. its investment returns and manpower requirements. More industries would mean more jobs and better living standard among our fellow Negrense. Spearheading the pack of biofuel plants to operate in the next years is the San Carlos biofuel plant. This could be the start of great new devts happening in that northernmost city of Negros Occ. Seems like 2008 is brighter than 2007.

I like the Goldenfields more becoming like the Greenhills Promenade of Manila. Actually it is becoming like one now. And could even be better with the opening of this Resortel. ^^ Because the last time I wen there.... "Kalipayan sir, gusto nyo?" greeted me just outside a convenient store there. But anyway, every city has its vices, its just the Goldenfields Complex is such a good place to hang out like those of Lacson and not as a brothel.

And yes, hopefully they will redevelop it as a wholesome getaway as it was before, with the resort being opened later this year.

^^I can attest to that Migo Jeff because in my case, I've been around the city with my gadgets and i really feel safe here. right... thats mainly the reason why ethanol is being pushed by Sen. Zubiri here in Negros coz we are the Major producer of sugar...and one thing, we have vast lands to develop for plantation of other sources of ethanol aside from sugar. :)

I still remember San Miguel Corporation was scouting their permanent brewery in the Western Visayas, there is a big tug of war between the two cities, but after year and half of research , finally the chairman decided to put in place in Bacolod City, but theres a lot of argument at that time, like Bacolod is not the center of Western Visayas, inadequate port facilities, and the crisis of sugar. and the city government is not stable at that time.... but right now San Miguel still exist in Bacolod. and getting stronger and stronger. we proved them wrong.....!!!!!!!

Demand of sugar crop for use in ethanol production could drive sugar prices high in the international market. With this scenario, i hope our local producers and planters will make the most of its advantages and benefits. Pass these benefits too to the local farmers and their families. In this manner, life would be sweeter amongst many Negrense. All it takes is just a little concern from the top and forget about the "crab".:)

2008 PROJECTS
GOV, MAYOR BARE PRIORITY
By Teresa Ellera-Dulla

Negros Occidental Governor Joseph Mara-ñon is again asking the cooperation and support of all Negrenses in his administration this year 2008.

Marañon bares his three major projects for this year which includes transfer of the Negros Occidental Provincial Jail from its present location along Gutuslao Street in Bacolod to Barangay Tabu-nan, Bago City. The property is owned by the provincial government and Marañon said the province could save a lot because part of the plan would be for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJ-MP) to shoulder the expenses for jail operation. At present, jail management including salaries and wages of jail guards and food expenses of inmates are shouldered by the provincial government. Talks with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) officials were held last year with Vice Governor Isidro Zayco and Atty. Jose Maria Valencia representing the province.

Marañon will also give priority this year to the renovation of the Governor Valeriano Memorial Hospital in Hima-maylan. This is part of the health programs strengthened by his administration, Marañon said. Last year, the transfer of the Silay Provincial Hospital to the New Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital was realized.

The Valladolid District Hospital will also be renovated this year.

Aside from these major projects, Marañon assured the strengthening of the ongoing irrigation project.
He earlier bared his plan about having a Negros Irrigation Highway from southern to northern Negros.
Marañon also said that the economic projection and development of the province would depend on the sugar industry as our major industry.

The rice programs and seeds and animal dispersal will also continue this year. The upgrading of the skills of the Capitol employees will also be given priority through seminars and trainings, Marañon revealed.

i dont think it will increase the price of sugar...they will make use of the surplus sugarcanes for the biofuel and then they will plant its own sugarcanes, kasla etc..etc..(which i think has already been started) for its own source...that means they will not utilize the one being processed for market purposes. :)

ah,..let me explain something, if the prices of sugar go up, it will be good for the economy, that means the plantation and the central earns more, the owners could provide more benefits for its employees and workers..what is bad is if it goes down, the reason for the sugar crisis, was the downturn of sugar prices in the world market,..

on the contrary, prices of sugar will go up once ethanol is being produced (when ethanol plants are in place and fully operational). planters will be planting sugarcane not for the production of sugar anymore but for ethanol. as such, supply for table sugar will fall short thereby increasing its cost per LKg (50 Kilo bag).

in theory the shortfall of supply for table sugar shall create a dramatic increase in farm-gate prices of sugar. however, that dramatic increase will not happen due to an external phenomenon which will keep the increase of sugar prices at a minimal level.

take a guess at what that "external phenomenon" is ;)

Water District Activates New Well Facility
The Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) inaugurated and activated yesterday morning another well facility with a capacity of 50 liters per second.

The new facility located at Upper Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City, will boost water supply to about 35,000 concessionaires and will further improve water supply to Barangays Alijis, Singcang, Mansilingan, Taculing and the Libertad Market area, Atty. Julie Ann Carbon, BACIWA general manager said.

Carbon led the blessing and inauguration rites with Mansilingan barangay captain Rommel Suansing and barangay kagawad Romeo Coleta, BACIWA assistant general manager Engr. Samuel Penado, Engineering Division head Jenelyn Yap-Gemora, and Maintenance Department chief Engr. Renato Abadiano, and several water district employees.
The blessing was officiated by Fr. Romeo Empestan.

The facility named Bore Hole Number 6, is 250 meters deep, and is the 8th new well facility to be activated since last year, with several others to be activated soon to further boast the supply.

It will help the water district address the need for adequate potable water supply .

As part of the govermment’s efforts to ensure steady supply, BACIWA had been embarking on projects like this to address and anticipate the growing need of its concessionaires and to make available potable water to more areas in Bacolod.* Arman Toga

Northern Negros Occ.-1st District Project a ‘Big Success’
By Jun de los Reyes
Northern Negros Occidental comprising the cities of San Carlos, Escalante; municipalities of Calatrava, Toboso and Salvador Benedicto is considered a huge success in terms of politics, economy, education, religion, peace and order situation, livelihood, culture, tourism and many others and ranks number one in development and even in controversial reports for year 2007.
Escalante City, a multi-awarded city, earned for the second time an award for Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines during the term of Mayor Santiago G. Barcelona Jr., Local Government Leadership Award-Philippine Senate. The city garnered the citation as Outstanding LGU in Governance of the Philippines, Outstanding Peace and Order Council of the Philippines, Best of the Best Police Station of the Year, Dr. Jose P. Rizal Award for Excellence in Public Service; twice Awarded “Parangal sa Marangal” (Krusadang Bayan Laban sa Jueteng-Free Philippines), Kaagapay Seal of Excellence in Local Governance, Kabalikat Award TESDA, Outstanding Website (LGU Category), Best Executive Agenda (LCE Governance and Accountability Course) and many more.
In San Carlos City, Mayor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson received the award of excellence as Hall of Fame Galing Pook Award of the Philippines; Healthy Terminal Market in Region 6, Outstanding City Council in Region 6, Outstanding Chief of Police of Year-Region 6 and many more.

In Calatrava, Mayor Alfonso “Boy” Baguio, Jr.- Clean and Green Awardee of Region 6, Don Salvador Benedicto, Mayor Marxleen De la Cruz- Best in Environmental Friendly Municipality in Region 6. Toboso- Mayor Evello Valencia Jr.- now moving towards Asenso and being part of the First District of Negros Occidental as Regional Awardee in D’BEST CA Inter Local Health Zone.

Among the various programs and projects that made them outstanding and best among the best LGUs to be replicated by other cities and muncipalities of the Philippines are: 1. NNARMAC- Northern Negros Aquatic Resources Management Council 2. D’BEST CA Inter-Local Health Zone. 3. In Escalante City- Mayor Santiago G. Barcelona Jr.- Helper’s Plus Program, Abante, Pagkaisa, Utan, Prutas at Kabuhayan Project, Sipag, Phil.Jobnet, Gawad Kalinga Project 21, United Nations Human Settlement Project, Habitat for Humanity Project, Blood Letting project, Public Governance System Project, Barangay Telecenter Project, Kasalan ng Bayan, Demo Farm & Farmer’s Training Center Project, Women’s Center, Healthy Public Market, Streamlining of Business Registration Project-DTI-GTZ, TESDA Scholarship Project, farm to market roads, Congressman Educational Assistance Project, Balik Baril Program, Relief Operation of the Philippine National Red Cross Bacolod City Chapter- distribution of packed rice, noodles, sardines, biscuits and others to the family member-evacuees after the ambush of two members of the 33rd Reconnaisance Company of the Philippine Army which injured two civilians both minors in Sitio Malasaging, Barangay Pinapugasan, Negros Marathon Relay, Second Philippine Caving Congress, Negros Adventure Race, Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), Bantay Dagat Pro-ject, BHW, BNS, Literacy Workers Project, Project and Programs of the Order of Carmelites in the Philippines, among others made them tops.

All the performances remain stagnant as of today, when a shift of administration took place that resulted to the disturbance of political party turmoil of varied factions. Peace and order situation is badly affected and records show of unsolved killings that may be considered political vendetta.

San Carlos City, Calatrava, Toboso and Salvador Benedicto have their own individual performances that made them reach the top.

We have also covered second district, most especially Sagay City under Mayor Alfredo G. Marañon who made it to the Hall of Fame Galing Pook Awards, like San Carlos City, based on the Eco-Tourism project on Sagay Marine Reserve and Museo Sang Bata sa Negros.

In the Fourth District, La Carlota City with its famous Pasalamat Festival, Unity Run “For the Love of Butch” Project, former Mayor Jeffrey P.
