yes...thats because they are selling their lots like hotcakes :) you know how fast they complete one phase of their subdivision and now they are up for a more high scale business in Negros :) I know you mentioned this before and that info was shared to you by councilor B..:) Migs, i wont be surprised if ALI will soon announce that they will build their CBD in Bacolod, just look at how Bacolod transformed into an Investment Hub...many international companies are eyeing Bacolod to be their next home :) lets just pray that everything will land to its proper places :)

If only Planta hotel could've gotten such big events in the city like national conventions or conferences, I'm pretty sure L Fisher will be alarmed. I guess L' Fisher is feeling the crunch by now.

One thing I hate about Starbucks "regulars" is that they make the coffee shop look more like a tambayan (in the hopes of looking sosyal to others). For instance, only one will buy a coffee (usually the cheapest one in the list) then his/her mates will make the table "tulungtungan" of cellphones, and then they go snap-crazy with the pics. I've had my share of this in other SB outlets. Most of these brats abuse their right as customers ("We bought coffee anyway so we have the right to stay here as much as we want.") I won't be surprised if the SB outlet in Bacolod will be haven of coños, too, hayyzz~~
Pero I have high hopes to SB in general, I believe they can still penetrate the market. If only Gerry's Grill learned the ropes of the Bacolod market, they could have still survived. :(
Daw ka mga de-p@%a gani as an expression of my friend
Bong Bongs and Merci has their own branches now in Iloilo and possibly expanding in Cebu. And these 2 are the most popular piaya brands in Manila today.
That means the next time when I will be visiting Manila, I would be bringing another pasalubong from Bacolod that's not yet available in Manila (there's already napoleones, piaya, tarts, piasugbo, etc) That's why I started bringing keychains brought from AZATRI Souvenir Shop
indi na ko mag comment migs :) ok na na siya na dala na naman ang Bacolod sa wow philippines. :) Kanami sang feeling a :) hehehehe kasadya gid ya!!!!! daw ma cha cha ko :)

^^ Mangkot ko, is TUP-V a state university?
Yup. It's the Technological-Engineering counterpart of UP. Technological University of the Philippines in the Visayas, Talisay City, Neg. Occ.
we could have been a separate republic with cantonal/federal form of government if not for the american occupation which ended the short lived cantonal republic of negros (1898-1901) due to concessions made by our leaders and according to a book i read from sa-onoy, we actually held the first assembly or congress in asia. are there still available copies of that history book of negros authored by modesto p. sa-onoy? :)
I'm proud of that fact. I have read a portion of that book when I studied the life of Papa Isio (and went on to perform in "Papa Isio, Tingog sang Kadam-an" in 1995 - grand champion CCP Natl Theatre Festival and 1998)That book is NEGROS, published in the early 90's (1993?). Yes there are still available copies and new reprints of the book.

A friend of mine from manila laughed and chuckled at Cafe Bobs. Nazirita gid ko. Hambal ko dayon..."why?does an absence of Starbucks belittle us? I think Negrenses can afford to buy Starbucks more than you do...imagine we go to Manila to drink SB coffee and then return home again afterwards"....Then quiet sya eh :bash: ....but anyway next day asta pag puli nya love ya na ang taga Negros ha hahahaha
hi ng... nice to be back here again.. havent visited the site for so long...
btw, just want to update the people of bacolod city....
groundbreaking rites for the incoming gaisano east comples is ongoing and construction might begin last quarter 2008...
the lopues east complex also begins their plans of expanding their store early next year as the Entry of LONESTAR Call Industry anticipates the surge of clients in the area....
also, at the front of the government center will be rising a small complex that will signal the construction boom in the area...
right now, we are being offered by major companies (along with my neighbors) since we live near the government centre to sell our properties as they will convert the area into a mix use developments... as far as im concerned, MEGAWORLD is really interested in buying 50++ hectares of land near the Government Centre and they are also interested in buying the Old Bacolod Airport as they will convert the place into a mix use Bayside Property also like what they will be doing in the Pasay Reclamation Complex...
The Potential of Bacolod is so Bright Right now that RGMA is reconsidering one of their Old Plans to Relocate their Regional Studio from Alta Tierra Village in Iloilo which is Flood Prone to somewhere in the EastTown of Bacolod City but it is still unconfirmed.
With the coming entry of People Support to Bacolod, other CCI's are interested in going to Bacolod and put up their next BizCentres here... I heard E-telecare and Epixstar are some of the Interested Players... Even heard that HSBC will be investing in the City also... One thing for sure, these arent mere hearsay only...
SUrely, ALI will be Expanding their presence in the Sugarbowl that will be soon Ethanolbowl of the country by investing in Mix Use Properties like that of GREENBELT in Makati somewhere in the Northside of the City and EastTown parts also... ALI will be putting up their next Mall in The Negros Metropolitan...
Surely, these signs will just only strengthen my statement before and for sure ARANETA GROUP will have the Biggest Project in the entirety as they go FULL Throttle in converting their BMMC COMPOUND into a VISAYAN CUBAO LEGACY... I Know ARANETA COLISEUM VISAYAS will be the FIRST PROJECT and the splendid Glory of the GATEWAY MALL... this will be in the coming months so lets all hope that the Execs wont change their minds... FYI: Araneta not only convert areas into mix use property, they also operates call centres and high rise condominiums... Their Talisay Hectarage based on my source have been decided to convert into an ECOZONE...
ay ang fairy ko nag state of the city adress naman..... thank you buddy for this wonderful news......
See...the ARANETA CENTER BACOLOD was not an imagination! That's why the Aranetas has been waiting long for the NGC-East area to develop so that their property (BMMC-Noah's Ark Sugar) would be then developed..
And yes RGMA-GMA TV Network is now peeking! Ha ha hahaha....sayang ang crush ko nga sa GMA 7 (Manila), who has been my informant, has left the network for Singapore.....tsk....sayang!...he he hehe...

Wipro Cebu
2008
It’s about time I should say. I’ve been wondering when this awarding-winning and top Indian BPO will follow suit to the likes of Genpact and Firstsource who have been set up shop here in the Philippines.
A report from www.itmatters.com.ph indicates that the Bangalore-based BPO has taken the first step in establishing a foot-hold on the Philippine outsourcing arena by opening its first site in the Cebu IT Plaza in the province of Cebu. According to Wipro officials, they have chosen Cebu to host their site due to its established IT infrastructure and availability of college-graduated talents. Wipro Vice-President Sanjeev Bhatia, in an interview, says establishing in the Philippines will allow Wipro to meet its objectives of global serviceability. While Wipro President T.K. Kurien expressed his positive outlook on this development and added that establishing a site in the Philippines has been a long-standing plan. Initials reports reveal Wipro will be hiring a total of 900 employees to fill this 1.3 hectare Cebu facility. Wipro’s property manager also added that the company is also in the hunt for other locations to expand in the Philippines.
In my personal opinion, Wipro has chosen wisely to establish in Cebu instead of Manila which is the most popular BPO destination in the Philippines. Due to the large influx of foreign outsourcing companies, demand for large office space and decreasing supply of qualified employee-candidates, Manila is generally considered a saturated area making it not ideal for new BPO companies on the block. In recent years Cebu, has been a much desirable choice for companies like Wipro because it has adequate infrastructure, a huge dedicated I.T. zone and a relatively untapped pool of talents ready for employment. With Wipro indicating future expansions in this country, I think they’ll find other urbanized areas like Davao city and Bacolod city to be their next hub in the Philippines.

bacolod has a strong local entrepreneural economy. I must say that the best gauge of looking how strong a LOCAL economy is...is by looking how robust the LOCAL/ home grown businesses are..
these local businesses thrive well like the tubo...and has quality and spic like the muscovado..
the local brands are taking the lead and putting the trend at par with or even above standards..
while a few pinoy rising cities saw demise of their local brands due to onslaught of national brands...Bacolod seems different...differently sweet..^^

Candleholder exhibit held in Bacolod City ABS-CBN Bacolod
Candleholders made of tiny metal scraps are now on display at Gallery Orange in Bacolod City. The exhibit, featuring pieces by Negrense artist Totc Co, is named "Kandelabra".
Each candleholder has its own unique design and theme.
Co said that it took him almost a month to create each artwork, since each piece required a lot of patience, time and attention to details.
"This is my form of expression and I really do my best everytime I make these artworks," said Co.
Prices of the items range from five to ten thousand pesos each.
Co said he hopes that art aficionados and the public will support his art.

Thousands to
welcome Papal Nuncio
BY CARLA GOMEZ
Thousands of Catholic faithful waving yellow flaglets will line the streets from Silay to Bacolod City Sunday morning to welcome the arrival Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, for the Episcopal ordination of Fr. Gerardo Alminaza as the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Jaro.
Adams is the ambassador of the Vatican to the Philippines and the dean of the diplomatic corps.
He will arrive at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Bacolod Silay airport and will lead a motorcade to Bacolod for a liturgical reception at the San Sebastian Cathedral at noon, Modesto Saonoy, one of the organizers, said.
At 4 p.m. Sunday he will visit the Pope John Paul II National Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family and at 6:30 p.m. with join a dinner hosted by the Bacolod City government at the new government center.
At 8:30 a.m. Monday the nuncio, joined by Archbishop Angel Lagdameo and Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, will lead the ordination rites for Alminaza at the San Sebastian Cathedral.
Three archbishops and 20 bishops are expected at the rites, Saonoy said.
Alminaza, the only child of Felix and Antonio Alminaza of Barangay San Jose, Sipalay, will be ordained on his 49th birthday having been born on Aug. 4, 1959.
He studied ecclesiastical philosophy at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Bacolod City from 1976 to 1981, obtained a Bachelor of Arts major in Philosophy from the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos in 1981 and a Bachelor in Sacred Theology from the University of Sto. Tomas Central Seminary in 1985.
He earned his Master of Arts degree in religious education with core concentration on pastoral counseling and spiritual direction at Fordham University in New York in 1994. He is currently a candidate for a doctorate degree in educational management from UNO-R.
When Pope Benedict XVI named Alminaza auxiliary bishop of Jaro, he was the rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary in Bacolod City.*CPG

New Bacolod
slaughterhouse finally opens
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The new Bacolod City Slaughterhouse in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, started its business operations yesterday, executive assistant to the Mayor, Ernesto Pineda, said and they are inviting meat vendors to have their animals slaughtered for a fee of P2.50 per kilo (liveweight).
The city is giving the meat vendors at the old slaughterhouse in Brgy. 35 a 15-day transition period, after which all slaughtering must be done at the new slaughterhouse, he added.
The new slaughterhouse was already provided power connection by the Central Negros Electric Cooperative Wednesday, he said.
AVM Bernardo Engineering is providing their patrons a raffle ticket for every P300 in slaughtering fees. The tickets will be raffled at the end of every month and lucky winners will receive prizes in the form of sacks of rice, electronic items and appliances.
The soft opening of the new slaughterhouse last month was attended by city officials and members of the media.
Meanwhile, a group of meat and lechon vendors in Libertad, Burgos and Central markets have signed a petition asking public officials for clarification on the system of operation at the new slaughterhouse and the actual fees they will be required to pay.
The group wants to know what are the regulatory fees AVM Bernardo will charge for the slaughter of animals and how much fees they have to pay the city.
They also inquired about the status of the memorandum of agreement entered into by the city with AVM Bernardo.
Pineda said they have held several dialogs with the meat and lechon vendors in the past. They have heard all their concerns and have forwarded these to the executive and legislative branches and to AVM Bernardo, he said.
If they have clarifications and other concerns, they may call telephone number 457-2436.
Councilor Alex Paglumotan, chairman of the Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse, said he had scheduled a public hearing on July 10 involving the meat and lechon vendors. He said he will also arrange a meeting for the displaced butchers at the old slaughterhouse with the mayor next week.*CGS

the act of kissing the tarmac and the ground of a city is a ritual done only by Pope JPII if its his first time to visit the place. though he still kisses the ground for repeat visits. If im not mistaken a mound of soil was placed in a container where he kissed it. unlike in 1981 here he knelt on the ground and kissed the tarmac. he was too old to kneel on the ground kissing it.
Amo na tani. They should've put some markers that "The Great Pope John Paul II" was here.
They should also talk with the Diocese of Bacolod about this.
There was once an steel arch at the old airport made to commemorate the papal visit. it was removed just the same time when Sugarland slashed its parapet.

Bacolod slaughterhouse
fees cheaper than Iloilo’s
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The Bacolod City Slaughterhouse charges lower fees compared to the Iloilo Slaughterhouse that is being run by the local government and charges permit to slaughter fees, slaughterhouse fees and corral fees, executive assistant to the city mayor, Ernesto Pineda, said yesterday.
The Bacolod Slaughterhouse that is operated by the AVM Bernardo Engineering only charges a slaughter fee of P2.50/ kilo per hog including a delivery fee of P0.25/kilo, post mortem fee - P0.10/kilo, and ante mortem fee - P1.25/kilo, Pineda said.
He said the Iloilo Slaughterhouse charges a slaughterhouse fee of P0.50/ kilo, ante mortem fee - P0.20/kilo, post mortem fee - P0.20/kilo, corral fee - P10 per head, slaughterhouse fee - P1.50/kilo and permit to slaughter fee - P20 per head for private and P25 per head for public.
The Iloilo Slaughterhouse also charges a fee for certificate of ownership amounting to P50 per cattle while that of AVM Bernardo is only P5 per head, while AVM Bernardo charges a fee amounting to P10 per cattle for a certificate of transfer, Iloilo charges P50 per head, Pineda said.
He also said meat vendors also lose about P140 per kilo due to pilferage at the old slaughterhouse. A meat vendor at the Libertad Market said they lose two to three kilos per head.
Meanwhile, City Veterinarian Dr. Adelo Daroy said that during the soft opening Thursday, they were able to slaughter 21 hogs. He said the facility can slaughter a minimum of 50 hogs per hour. It can also slaughter 100 cattle a day, he added.
Daroy said that with the operation of the new slaughterhouse, the consumers are assured of clean and safe meat.
He said he has requested 15 days to inform the meat vendors and other stakeholders that the operation of the old slaughterhouse in Brgy. 35 will stop on Aug. 16.
The grand opening of the new slaughterhouse will be on August 16 to which city officials, meat vendors and livestock raisers will be invited, Daroy said.*CGS

Been there, done that...
If she writes an article, then I think she should write something sensible like what would be the the features and the like and not an ego-boosting article, daw kahuluya nga makadlaw gid ko sa iya.......hay, amo na gid budlay sa local journalists ta.:bash::lol:
She should have done something constructive rather than full of regionalistic pride and bashing. At least these 2 cities have new slaughterhouses that are clean and will serve the public rather than serving ego booster...daw makadlaw gid ko sa ginahimo sang VDS recently.
The ghost of NBSA, now the comparison of slaughterhouses, what's next? Maayo pa iban nga local dailies da sa Bacolod IMHO.

^^ The reality is that we have the most expensive electricity and yeah the rates of the slaughterhouse which is of measely a few pesos or centavos difference in Iloilo. We do also have a quite expensive realty tax as compared to Bacolod...Pero ano ayhan ang iya gina-imply ni Chrysee?
I've never seen someone form local journalists league that made such insensitive comparison in Iloilo (although they have some issues too that I do not want to discuss here) as to contrast it with Bacolod.
Small issue boosting up the ego and pride doesn't make sense in ethics of journalism. Its really sensationalized.
On the other hand, this is a basis of benchmarking to enable healthy competition. Yet the slaughterhouses of Bacolod serves Negros Island and Iloilo for Panay Island livestock? Transporting livestock would be more expensive and impractical. That's the purpose of these local slaughterhouses. Would they encourage livestock owners of Panay to have their products slaughtered in Bacolod because its cheaper than Iloilo's?

Bacolod is growing. My old friend Jose Antonio T. Magalona told our Sunshine Boys the other night his group is putting up a number of condominiums on a lot believed (beside) the Bacolod police department in Singcang. It’s quite an ambitious project.
I like Magalona. He speaks the Kinaray-a, the language of Bornean Datus who landed in Sirawagan River in San Joaquin, Iloilo in the 12th or 13th century and claimed Panay from the Negrito King Marikudo.
Datu Paiburong occupied Iloilo, Datu Bancaya occupied Capiz, and Datu Sumakwel occupied Antique. Aklan then was just a part of Capiz.
And talking of the growth of Bacolod, we cannot help recognizing the contribution of the popular Grand Old Man by the Sea Atty. Sammy Palanca. Individually, no one has brought progress to Bacolod more than Sammy Palanca has done. And, my God, he never stops putting up projects, even at the age of 85.

exceprts from Feedback

http://www.visayandailystar.com/2008/August/02/feedback.htm
He deserves a bigger salute.
Mr. Magalona is the person i talked to last time i went to azotea. :) very nice person. :) this project is in full swing by the end of this year. :)

PIA Press Release
2008/08/01
Corn production in Negros Occidental up by 33%
Negros Occ. (1 August) -- Corn production for the second quarter in the province posted an increase of 33% compared to the harvest of the same quarter last year.
Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) Chief Joely Cabarles said from 4,918 metric tons harvest in 2007, this increased to 6,545 metric tons, this year.
He attributed the increase to the 4.2% hike in the area planted from 4,875 hectares last year to 5,080 hectares in 2008.
Along with the increase of area planted to corn is the production yield per hectare that rose to 27.7%, he said.
More farmers turned to corn planting this year because the price per kilo of corn has significantly increased from P6.50 - P7.50 two years ago to P12-P14 today, Cabarles pointed out.
He also said the use of high yielding variety and better farming practices should also be considered for the higher harvest.
The province also posted a slight increase in rice production from 30, 241 metric tons in 2007 to 31, 271 metric tons during the second quarter.
Despite the increase, the province remains a rice deficit area. For the province to be self sufficient it needs to produce at least 520 metric tons of rice annually, he explained. Average production during the previous years is placed at more or less 425 metric tons.
A check at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) shows that a program is now being crafted towards the rice sufficiency of Negros Occ.
In the national level, the government is exerting efforts to be rice self-sufficient by year 2010. (PIA-LOL)

DENR Negros Occidental top performer for patent issuance in Region 6
Negros Occidental (1 August) -- DENR, this province, was the Regional top performer in Patent Issuances for 2007 and DENR Region VI Regional Technical Director for Lands Celso V. Loriega, Jr. visits the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office to confer with the personnel and staff of the Land Management Services.
Discussed during the meeting were the targets versus the accomplishments of the LMS for the 1st semester of 2008. Likewise, problems encountered were immediately addressed to attain the goal of DENR in the province. The annual target of the office in the Patent Issuance is 972 patents with an area of 1,083 hectares while for the Public Land Survey, the target is 1,620 hectares.
837 beneficiaries of the Handog Titulo Program of the government became the proud owners of the land that they have been cultivating for some time now. A total of 1,627.69 hectares mostly from CENRO Cadiz were distributed last year.
Patent is a mode of acquiring a parcel of alienable and disposable public land suitable for agricultural purposes. It is given to a Filipino Citizen who had been occupying and cultivating the area by one-self or through one's predecessor-in-interest for at least thirty years prior to the effectivity of RA 9176 on December 4, 2002.
The meeting was also attended by PENR Officer Livino B. Duran. (PENRO/PIA/EAD)
