i agree. on of the true tests is the Philippine Advertising Congress. the AdCongress is one of the biggest and most publicized conventions in the Philippines held every 2 years. the last time AdCongress was in Bacolod was in 1991.
methinks that if we cannot bring back the AdCongress to Bacolod to be its hosts, then we have no business entertaining an event bigger than that. as it is, the advertising event is joined by thousands from the world of marketing, media, and showbiz. everytime there is an AdCongress, the city hosting it reaps the benefit of hundreds of millions spent on accomodation, food, leisure, transpo services etc. this is why Cebu, Subic and Baguio have always fought for the right to host.
sadly, Bacolod has never put up a fight since the mid 1990s. :ohno:

that true. who could sell a place better than the advertisers themselves. it was in the early 90's when masskara gained national and international attention. and that was the time when interest in bacolod was also at its highest. i guess bacolod needs to develop exciting places that is intrinsically bacolod in flavor to be able to attract people to take a look at bacolod as a convention city again. baguio has it cool environment, subic its freeport, cebu its beaches right within the city limits. that's what convention goers have in mind in going to conventions, the side trip.:)

Japanese firm eyeing
contact center in Silay
A group of Japanese investors is eyeing a call center in Silay City, the Mayor’s Office said in a press release yesterday.
Osamu Sato of Masterpiece Group Inc., Shimada Takehero of Nomura Securities Philippines Inc., and their partner Juri Nakajima came to Silay to discuss their intent to invest in the city.
Mayor Jose Montelibano said the city government will facilitate the investors’ needs immediately once the plans are finalized.
The proposed call center will cater to Japanese, Chinese and English-speaking clients.
The Japanese investors consider Silay as an ideal business site because it is peaceful and has no traffic problem, the press release said. Also, the city government offer incentives to investors.
Sato also considers Silay as good place for Japanese retirees because the food is cheap and the people are friendly.
The investors are considering the possibility of inviting other Japanese businessmen to study a possible seaport project in Silay, the press release added.

Church to monitor P100M in projects
UP FOR BIDDING AT CAPITOL
BY CARLA GOMEZ
The Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod and its Citizens Network for Good Governance will monitor the bidding for the construction of the provincial government-funded jail in Bago City and two hospitals estimated to cost close to P100 million, Fr. Anecito Buenafe said yesterday.
Buenafe, who heads the Social Action Center, said Governor Isidro Zayco asked him to help monitor the bidding at a recent meeting.
Zayco in his executive report on Negros Occidental Wednesday also invited all qualified contractors to join the bidding for the construction of the new provincial jail in Bago City on Sept. 10, the Valeriano Gatuslao District Hospital in Himamaylan City on Sept. 15, and the Valladolid District Hospital on Sept. 16.
The work on the two hospitals is estimated to cost more than P20 million each and the first phase of the jail work has been placed at about P50 million, he said.
“I want everybody to attend and observe the proceedings so they can help me because the governor is no longer a member of the Bids Awards Committee. To make sure that the bidding procedure is fair, I want it to be transparent,” he said.
Buenafe said the Social Action Center has been deputized as the Corruption Prevention Unit of the Ombudsman tasked to monitor bids and awards, conduct lifestyle checks and Internal Revenue Allotment watches, Buenafe said.
Zayco also reiterated that Alto Power Management Corp., with which the provincial government signed a Memorandum of Agreement to conduct a study on the feasibility of tapping hydro electric-power from the Bago River, has informed him that it is feasible to set up an initial 40 megawatt hydro-power plant.
After the six-month period that allows Alto exclusive rights to study the area for its hydro electric power the firm can indicate whether it is prepared to construct a power plant, or the area will again be open to other investors, Zayco said.*CPG

tup-v grads are scattered all around the globe in the absence of industries where their technical expertise are very much need in the province. as a matter of fact, one of the requirements for graduation is the ojt where they are sent to manila, laguna and cavite. just imagine the expenses they have to shoulder in going to these places just to comply with the requirement. i agree that there should be at least one or two industrial parks in the province.:)

I hope that developers and investors would also think that golf courses consume a lot of water to maintain their greens, so it would compete for the drinking water supply of our island (Negros):ohno:. Maybe a golf course or two in each of the north and south of Negros Occidental would be enough already

Yup thats why I had been wondering why haven't we hosted this event. Its long overdue for bacolod
It's because we don't have a big convention center. For the last AdCongress in Subic, the Subic authorities built the huge convention center for that purpose alone. That's how profitable it is to host an AdCongress.
Until any moves are made in this direction, we will be losing out then to other cities especially Cebu.

Puentevella wants Cuban coaches for 4 more years
By Gerry Carpio
Friday, August 15, 2008
BEIJING – Philippine chef de mission and Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella said the first round loss of top boxer Harry Tañamor Wednesday night should bring about reforms in boxing to ensure the Philippines’ competitiveness in international competitions.
“First and foremost we need a bigger pool of boxers. Second, we need the Cuban coaches to stay here for another four years to train our boxers,” said Puentevella.
“I’ve always been frustrated with boxing, from the time of Onyok Velasco to the Athens Olympics and Asian Games and now here in Beijing,” he added.
“What can we do? We don’t like the scoring system but that’s how the ball bounces. I’ll always be frustrated with boxing as long as there’s no transparency in the sport.”
Cuban coach Juan Enrique Steyners Tissert had complained the judges failed to score the body punches of Tañamor in his 6-3 loss to Ghanaian Manyo Plange in the first round of the light flyweight event of the Olympic boxing competition.
“The important thing now is for us to continue the development of amateur boxing,” said Puentevella.
The Bacolod solon and weightlifting association president said the country drew only 120 boxers to last year’s national championships, which served as the qualifying round for the RP team that competed in world qualifying events for the Beijing Olympics.
He said he expects to increase this to 500 to 600 when the national boxing championships are held in Bacolod in December.
“We shall have more boxers for the Olympics, thanks to the popularity of Manny Pacquiao,” said Puentevella. “We should now have a bigger pool selection and a strong national team that can fight Thailand in the Southeast Asian Games.”
He said the Philippines could create a big national pool and, eventually a strong national team with the help of Cuban coaches.
“We can do that if the two Cuban coaches stay for another four years,” he said. “With them, our boxers will have more and better training.”

New slaughterhouse goes full swing today
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The new Bacolod City Slaughterhouse in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City starts its full operation today after its inauguration and blessing to be officiated by Fr. Romeo Empestan.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Ernesto Urbano, legal counsel of AVM Bernardo Engineering, will cut the ceremonial ribbon.
Bacolod City Administrator Roger Balo yesterday said the mayor has given the order to transfer the operation of the slaughterhouse from Brgy. 35 to the new facility in Brgy. Handumanan starting today. The operation of the old facility in Brgy. 35 ended last night, he said.
The new slaughterhouse will operate starting 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Receiving of animals will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
City Ordinance No. 1 Series of 1974 provides that any food animal slaughtered in places other than the slaughterhouse is considered “hot meat” and therefore, subject to confiscation and its owner/possessor subject to legal action in the proper court of law.
Meanwhile, a rally was staged yesterday at the old facility by butchers, residents of Brgy. 35 and groups affected by the transfer of the slaughterhouse operation to Brgy. Handumanan.
Balo said numerous public hearings had been conducted in the past. Now that the operation of the new facility will start, he said, the protestors are expressing their strong opposition. “I believe somebody instigated it,” he said.
The operation of a new and modern slaughterhouse is another achievement for the City of Bacolod under the administration of Leonardia but it is being opposed, Balo said. He believes this is part of a series of efforts to discredit the administration, he said. While other administrations were not able to succeed in operating the new slaughterhouse, the Leonardia administration was able to do so, he added.
Balo said most of the protestors are the “boleros” or private butchers, and some are meat vendors who used to pay regulatory fees based on the 1974 rates. Because the meat vendors pay regulatory fees based on the old rates, the city had to subsidize the operation of the old slaughterhouse by P7 million a year, he said.
Some of the meat vendors are claiming that the prices of meat will increase once they have their animals slaughtered at the new slaughterhouse.
However, Balo said the vendors have increased the price of meat even if they only pay slaughtering and regulatory fees based on the 1974 rates.
In 1974, the price of meat was only P12 per kilo but now it is between P140 to P150 per kilo, he said. This shows that they have increased the price of meat even if the regulatory and slaughtering fees have not increased, he said. The increase in the price of meat is dependent on inflation, he added.
Balo said the Iloilo Slaughterhouse, which is being operated by the local government, charges higher slaughtering fees than that being charged by AVM Bernardo Engineering.*CGS

yes it is. the cost to build the bsa is much lower compared to that of the iloilo airport by roughly about a billion. you get the same quality and the same serviceability at a lesser cost. so that's understandable.:)

It's because we don't have a big convention center. For the last AdCongress in Subic, the Subic authorities built the huge convention center for that purpose alone. That's how profitable it is to host an AdCongress.
Until any moves are made in this direction, we will be losing out then to other cities especially Cebu.
Ahh...so thats it...yup its time we have a large convention center. Negros Oriental is having one but we still haven't built ours

7 Neg.Occ. cities sign pact to upgrade license system
Seven cities in Negros Occidental yesterday forged an agreement with Department of Trade and Industry and the German Technical Cooperation for the implementation of a project that will upgrade their business permits and licensing issuance system.
The cities of Silay, Sagay, San Carlos, Cadiz, Kabankalan, Bago and Talisay follow the footsteps of Bacolod, Escalante and Ormoc that have already implemented the Streamlining of Business Permit and Licensing System project that considerably cut the processing time for business licensing under a computerized system.
“We are making history in this region especially in Negros Occidental,” DTI Regional Director Dominic Abad said of the seven cities’ partnership with their agency and the GTZ Private Sector Promotion (SMEDSEP) Program in pursuing the streamlining project for business registration.
For DTI Provincial Director Rebecca Rascon, the tripartite agreement is a milestone that could draw more investors to Negros Occidental.
Volker Steigerwald, Visayas coordinator of SMEDSEP, said that after piloting the project in other cities, they are now ready to ready to replicate it in other parts of the Visayas.
SMEDSEP will provide technical assistance to LGUs in terms of capacity-building and training of personnel assigned to the project.
Steigerwald said that some local government units in Luzon and Mindanao have also expressed interest in implementing the project.
But Region 8 (Ormoc) and Negros Occidental will be at the forefront, he said.
At the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding yesterday, present were Mayors Jose Montelibano of Silay, Alfredo Marañon of Sagay, Eugenio Jose Lacson of San Carlos, Pedro Zayco of Talisay and Salvador Escalante who were the signatories in behalf of their respective LGUs.
Bago Mayor Ramon Torres and Talisay Vice Mayor Neil Lizares, who was supposed to represent Mayor Eric Saratan, failed to come.
Ardis Jaculina, chief of Bacolod Permits and Licensing Division, shared the city’s experience in the implementation of the streamlining project that led to higher tax revenues. In the case of Bacolod, it has established a “One-Stop-Shop” for business permits and licensing wherein all stakeholders are gathered under one roof to cut processing time.
Jaculina said the system also provides a “check and balance” mechanism that curbs corruption in the licensing process.
Moreover, Steigerwald said the driving force of the project’s success is the political will of the chief executives.
“Your presence here signifies (that) political will, and that you want to move forward and change the situation,” he said.
Under the MOU, which will take effect until August 2009, every city is tasked to designate a focal person who will work closely with the DTI provincial director and GTZ regional coordinator in the implementation of Streamlining of Business Registration activities.
It will also provide a counterpart contribution for the SBR and ISO certification.
DTI, for its part, will also assign a focal person for the improvement of business registration procedures and co-oversee and co-monitor the conduct of SBR activities with GTZ.*NLG

The airport terminal is large, spacious and utilizing the natural light. This is the start for a bigger terminal when investors see the facilities and potential expansion.
Mactan, Cebu had a smaller airport terminal and dimmer inside in the early 70's.

for info, ang TUP isa man sa ginakuhaan sang Philippine Airlines sang technical skills nila. ang nagtukod dira subong sa Bacolod sang Asian College of Aeronautics, mga taga PAL na sila sang una nga nag-abroad tapos napinsaran nila nga magtukod Aeronautical school dira sa aton kay wala pa guid ang Bacolod aeronautical school. Yep, ang nami for Cong. Monico is that he always promotes Bacolod not just as a Sports and Convention destination but for other purposes as well, like being an IT haven, Real Estate Hub, etc.
Medyo kulang ang airport sang touch of Negros, hehe. Pero that's ok, maybe that's still in the drawing board. I wonder kung ano na ang status sang x ray machines kag ang mga repairs brought by the earthquake?
I wonder why they didn't continue the International Mayor's Invitational Boxing which started in 1996 (stopped in 1998)at USLS where boxing teams from different countries competed.^^
It was the acoustic panel boards at the ceiling and a few hairline cracks at BSA after the quake
thanks neomind :) saw it yesterday when we went to the airport :) kag nami kay dungan gid sila gwa, sila sang gochangco. Figaro coffee is doing well @ SM. I was able to have a chat with their manager before and she said its doing good, amo lang na daw medyo ga prepare man sila for starbucks :)
i think Figaro is doing fine and found it's loyal drinkers. it might be affected " a little" if Starbucks would open but they're substantially distant naman para mag agaway customers. The real threat to these high-end coffee shops are the local coffee shops that are so "internationally looking" and are enjoying loyalty of locals and curiosity of tourists. As my non-Bacolod friends would say, "we want to try something we haven't had in Manila."

PIA Press Release
2008/08/13
Breeding and dairy station to rise in Kabankalan City
Bacolod City (13 August) -- Negros Occidental Governor Isidro Zayco, Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco, and Dr. Freddie Maningo, president of the Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA), signed a memorandum of agreement recently for the putting up of a breeding and dairy station in Kabankalan City.
The center aims to boost the livestock and poultry industry in the southern part of Negros Occidental and to augment the supply of fresh milk.
Kabankalan City will establish a modern breeding and dairy center in a 5 hectare area in Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA) compound where its students have access to learn skills and techniques in upgrading of native animals in the city and nearby local government units.
The Negros Occidental provincial government will give a P2 million counterpart to the project besides the stocks which include cattle, carabaos, goat, pigs and chickens.
The center will also become a training ground for farmers and students to equip themselves with the latest technology they will need for employment in the future. (PIA/cad)

The local govt of Bacolod and the Palanca lead BREDCO must resolve their differences first with regard to the operations and contracts of the port of Bacolod. This is becoming a big "turn off" to most investors and would-be locators in Bacolod. So i guess, a successful freeport would depend on how our local dads will handle this BREDCO-Bing conflict.
The old Bacolod airport IMO, is the best site for a techpark in Bacolod. Jobs generation is still the key to a city's booming economy. But i guess Bacolod is now steadily picking up the pace in this department.

In my opinion, its better to put a freeport that is quite distant to the urban center such as Bacolod. If you may notice that some freeports are quite distant from urban centers. It will give vehicular and commercial traffic for the road between the port and the urban city or redistribution centers. In that way, development is not congested in one area. :)

AU and Sons building
new structure in city
Property developer A.U. and Sons Merchandising Inc. recently held the groundbreaking for its new development SanParq Drive, a three-storey mixed use commercial structure, a press release from the company said.
SanParq Drive, to be constructed beside One SanParq, the Western Visayas operations center of Convergys, is the second of a series of development for AUSMI in San Antonio Park Square at Lacson Street, Mandalagan, Bacolod City.
One SanParq is the first and largest built-to-suit Information Technology Center in Western Visayas and registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, the press release said.
It houses the ninth Convergys contact center in the country that opened last April and is expected to create about 1,000 new jobs this year, it added.*

I guess Monico was also a key figure in the realization of NBSA. Even if its clouded with controversies but still Bacolod now have a decent airport to boot. Plus the DFA office in Bacolod, it was also Monico's project and soon PRC-Bacolod office.
As for Bing, his major achievement so far is the NGC. The BPO's and other commercial/retail businesses were also prospering due to good city management.
I hope this two will work more for the people of Bacolod. More jobs and more jobs. Para may pang shopping ang tanan.

Wow! For one thing those drag racing afficionados, who frequent the North Hi-way, will surely turn up in droves come the event. But i'm more enthusiastic about the idea of putting this idle yet very strategic site into good use. May it be for entertainment, sports or business utilization.
Nice find @NG. I hope to see more of this type of development all over Bacolod and the rest of Negros Occ.
Para may pang shopping ang tanan.
yup...monico also did great things for our city...sometimes it pays if we'lltake a look at both sides of the coin :)

BEIJING—Marestella Torres tries to avoid the mistakes of countryman Henry Dagmil when she guns for a new national long jump record at the Beijing Olympics here Tuesday.
Torres, Southeast Asia’s undisputed long jump queen with a national record of 6.63 meters, gets into the fray as the 16th jumper in the second of the event’s two-squad formation at the Bird’s Nest, the breathtaking venue of the Olympics’ centerpiece sport.
She will be the 12th Filipino to compete in these Summer Games and precedes Dagmil, who fouled on his last two attempts and crashed out of the qualification stage of the men’s long jump with a dismal 7.58m leap. He wound up 34th in a field of 38 entries.
“Laban lang, pero mas maganda kung ma-improve ang record ko (I’ll fight but I’ll be happy to break my own record),” said the 27-year-old from San Jose, Negros Occidental.
Torres set her national record at the 2005 Asian Championships in Incheon, South Korea. She bagged a silver and a bronze in last year’s Asian Grand Prix series.
Though she failed to meet the Olympic qualification criteria of 6.72m, Torres was the national athletics association’s first choice as the country’s one of two mandatory Olympic participants, the other being Dagmil, in the sport.
She jumps with the squad that includes United States champion Brittney Reese, whose world best leap for the year of 6.95m was topped last July by Portugal’s Naide Gomes (7.12).
The 22-year-old Gomes is in the first squad, along with world indoor runner-up Maureen Higa Maggi, the Brazilian with the third longest and personal best jump of 6.99m. The world record of 7.52m was set by the now-retired Galina Chistyakova of Russia in 1988.
Unlike Dagmil, Torres has been promised a cash reward by national athletics chief Go Teng Kok if she breaks the Philippine record.
Dagmil, whose pre-Olympic training in the United States was made possible by Philippine Olympic Committee head Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, reportedly had a falling out with Go last year.
Torres ranks 31st among 41 entries based on personal-best leaps and is the only Southeast Asian in the cast. She has the next best record to Japan’s Kumiko Ikeda (6.70) among the only five Asians competing Tuesday.

Hello everyone.
Ive been to Bacolod City twice already. First when we had our Mid-year Assessment Planning & Budgeting Worshop last June 2007, then last April 2008 for the Masonic Convention.
Bacolod City is so beautiful that it even occured to me that it would be good place to relocate the family, if ever it will come to that.
Beautiful City with Beautiful and friendly people. I specially like how you value your past (history). Oh, and Great nightlife too.
Hope to go back there and bring the family.

IN BACOLOD
New permits system
boosts tax collection
The implementation of the streamlined business permits and licensing system in Bacolod City has boosted the city government’s collection of business taxes and other regulatory fees, City Permits and Licensing chief Ardis Jaculina said.
Jaculina said that comparative data collection of taxes and fees shows an increasing pattern after Bacolod started to use the Tax Revenues and Collection Systems or TRACS in 2002.
Jaculina presented the Bacolod experience during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between seven other cities in Negros Occidental, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the GTZ Private Sector Promotion (SMEDSEP) Program Friday for the implementation of the Streamlining of Business Permit and Licensing System project in these areas.
Bacolod figures show that in 2002, during the initial implementation of TRACS, collection of business taxes and regulatory fees reached P144.582 million. A year before, revenue was only at P130.201 million. In 2003, it increased to P156.157 million; 2004, P175,552 million; 2005, P177.865 million; and 2006, P197.406 million.
As of June 2007, collection totaled P139.696 million, and Jaculina said last year’s revenue is estimated to reach P220 million.
She also said that Bacolod City now issues up to 14,000 to 15,000 business licenses yearly whereas before TRACS was implemented, it was only about 12,700.
Moreover, before TRACS, time allotted by the Permits and Licensing Division for processing and release of business permit was 30 days or about a month, but under the streamlined system, permits can already be released in eight hours to two working days with the submission of complete requirements. Also, printing of business permits now takes only 10 to 32 seconds.
Jaculina said the use of the TRACS business permits system not only shortens working time and lessens personnel manhours, but it also ensures reliable assessment or billing and accurate tax collection, and also applies the principle of “check and balance.”*NLG

A reopening
After two weeks of renovation, the Sweetgreens Restaurant re-opened recently, with expanded facilities and new menus.
The resto is now bigger with good views of Lacson Street and the garden with different blooms and a fountain to attract kids in the daytime.
During the reopening I saw a lot of foreigners also enjoying the Sweetgreens garden and food.
An evening of live music with “Soul and Rhythm” at the Garden provided memorable melodies from the 70’s to the 90’s, and even the latest top hits.
Owners Tima Lacson and Millie Kilayko, were busy greeting friends. Among their popular new dishes is their crispy pata, a collaboration of Millie and her Tito Ed Locsin.
Another hit was the pitaw developed by Tima and husband, Bitay Lacson, their main taster and number one food critic.

I guess Monico was also a key figure in the realization of NBSA. Even if its clouded with controversies but still Bacolod now have a decent airport to boot. Plus the DFA office in Bacolod, it was also Monico's project and soon PRC-Bacolod office.
I hope this two will work more for the people of Bacolod. More jobs and more jobs. Para may pang shopping ang tanan.
the DFA office was a resolution of the City Council of Bacolod, thanks to Monico he lobbied for it in the congress, but what I don't like is that he claimed the effort for himself.........sakit na tutunlan ko sang ugtas kay monico since i found out he was "scraping" off the budget for each patient at CLMMRH....anyway thanks man gid sa efforts ya...tani ubra na lang sila kag wala tikalay kag hilabtanay bala.......:bash:

MBCCI organizes forum on
construction and sorghum industry
BACOLOD City – The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (MBCCI) and the Province of Negros Occidental will hold two forums on Japanese construction technology and human development this coming August 23 and sweet sorghum technology investment on August 29.
MBCCI partners with the Negros Japan Human Resource Exchange Association, Inc. (NJHREAI) in inviting Japanese industry leaders in the construction business. They are Takenori Nakahata, president of the Multi Builders Corp. and Takeshi Nakamura, project executive of the Ohbayashi Construction.
To be held at Grand Regal Hotel this August 23, Nakahata and Nakamura will be speaking about the latest Japanese construction technology, Japanese work ethics and expanding the MBCCI-NJHREAI "Train and Earn Livelihood Program" by sending more construction trainees to Japan.
Nakahata and Nakamura are both members of the MARUCON, a contractors' cooperative in Japan which were among the first Japanese construction companies that accepted Filipino trainees.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes and Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri will also be here in another forum this August 27 where they will be resource speakers in the First Sweet Sorghum Techno Investment Forum organized by the Province of Negros Occidental, Department of Agriculture, Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corp., Biofuels Philippines and MBCCI.
In a statement issued by MBCCI-Biofuels Philippines to its members, "sweet sorghum already grows in some of the poorest areas in the world. This biofuel feedstock could offer resource-poor nations a shot at energy independence and increased development, without the massive destructive environmental impacts which modernization brought through unhampered expansion of the industrialized world."
Interested parties who wish to participate in these two forums can call MBCCI at (034) 434-3842 or (034) 708-8721./PN

17 areas for CICT
Written by Michin
Sunday, 17 August 2008
Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) reports outsourcing investments in 17 areas such as in Bacolod, Bacoor, Baguio, Batangas City, Cagayan de Oro, Cainta, Naga City, Cebu, Angeles, Davao, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Lipa, Manila, Sta. Rosa and Dagupan. The investors are from the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.
Moreover, according to Commisoner Monchito Ibrahim, CICT has identified a total of 22 areas in its drive to establish so called ICT hubs ideal for BPO investors. Also, they are now adding Tagbiliran and Tuguegarao for their list.
Furthermore, due to the growing awareness about BPO in the cities even in Metro Manila and increased enrollment in ICT-related courses in these areas.
Also, Call Centers continue to be the biggest revenue contributor and even non-call center investments as well and in provinces, like in Bacolod, having P 90 Million in new investments.
This project willl definitely gives high employment for the ICT graduates in metro Manila and in different provinces as well. [via]

I hope that news about patient budget at CLMMRH arent true. And for sure if passed(resolution), that would mean the end of Monico's political career.
True na migo, an indigent patient is entitled P5,000 aid from the DOH thru a congressman's pork barrel (in our case mr. puentevella)...but I was shocked when I asked a few patients at CLMMRH 2 yrs ago. They told me that..."pasalamat kami kay congressman kay gin hatagan ya kami P500 nga bulig".....Sus! And the patient's thought it was a "charitable move" from the solon. Haaay...malawig pa migo nga istorya ini if I will tell you but, well, this is the Philippines...if we peek more into this we could be in deep trouble ourselves.^^

i was there the whole week last week. came back to manila sang monday. was also busy for the funeral of my late father-in-law.
nice ang bacolod. the developments are too fast which is why as i've always suggested, there should be a separate web repository of bacolod's growth apart from skyscrapercity.
i find it sad that a lot of the old buildings and houses are being torn down without them being documented.
i was able to bring home to manila from out of our family baul all the old photos of bacolod during the sugar boom period of the 70s.
a few people also suggested that i start formal reviews of restos, hotels and tourist spots in bacolod especially now that there is a void given the absence of the StarTaste column which used to be written by the late Marilou Villanueva for the Visayan Daily Star. Marilou wrote the Food and Resto column for VDS while I wrote the Arts and Culture column sometime 1998 to 2001.

that's everybody's wish migs. i hope we can bring back the old glory days of philippine sports. we have the likes of serrantes, roel and onyok velasco who produced the only medals for the philippines in the three succeeding staging of the olympics; 1988 seoul, 1992 barcelona & 1996 atlanta. after that, the country suffered a dismal showing, and the worst is the on-going beijing olympics. not even a single athlete advanced to the next round. our asean neighbors are on the medal list all except the philippines. even tiny singapore has a silver medal on its pocket.:ohno:
i think its about time to revive the paglaum project of gov. montelibano before and the boxing program of bago city and we should start it right now if we really are bent serious in redeeming that lost glory of philippine sports in the 2012 london olympics. :)

^^bacolod is now reaping the rewards of its tenacity to be one of the preferred bpo destinations in the country. i think we have to acknowledge those people who have toiled hard to achieve this status that bacolod is now enjoying, the people behind MAKE IT BACOLOD and also the local government. keep up the good job. just don't stop working.:okay:
thats true @champ...Lets give them a round of applause :) :applause::applause::applause:

i share your sentiments migs. Its a shame!!! and the worst is, they are now pointing fingers at each other. I go for the idea of NG that if Philippine Government cant handle the expenses for training, maybe we can ask help from Big businesses to help our athletes.

bacolod (or the philippines for that matter) will never have world class athletes as long as half of the sports budget is pocketed by the powers that be. ;) sayang

cool it down man...its never too late. four years is still a long way to go. the good congressman is reviving the boxing program for the grassroots and its in the news today. we can surely find fresh talents from this competition. i'm not quite sure if we're made for swimming, with phelps still around in 2012, i doubt it. size does matter in swimming.

Dinosaurs exhibit
opens at city mall
The biggest interactive exhibition of robotic dinosaurs called “Dinosaurs are Back,” will be presented by Robinsons Malls from August to October, a press release from the mall said.
The exhibit is not only fascinating but very educational as well. Replicas of dinosaurs from four different time periods – Late Jurassic, Early Cretaceous, Late Cretaceous and Late Permisan – will be displayed.
The exhibit opened yesterday at Robinsons Place Bacolod, and will run until September 2; at Robinsons Place Manila from September 12 to 28; and at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga, October 4 to 26.
The exhibit had high record-setting tours in France and Germany, as well as an extremely popular exhibition in Tivoli, Copenhagen, the press release said.
This will be the first time that an exhibition of this magnitude will be staged on Philippine grounds, and with Robinsons Malls as the host of this unique show, Nilo Mapa, general manager, Robinsons Malls, said.
The exhibit will feature nine fully-automated robotic hydraulic dinosaurs geared with heart pounding movement and sound. Weighing 225 to 800 kilograms and sizes ranging from 1.7 meters x 1.2 meters to 5.6 meters, each dinosaur will represent a selection of species form the various era of prehistory.
The hydraulic robotic dinosaurs are Tyrannosaurus Rex, Deinonychus, Triceratops, Apatosaurus, Apatosaurus baby, Dimetrodon, Pachycephalosaurus, Stegosaurus and Stegosaurus baby.
The exhibit will be open daily, mall hours, stating at 10 a.m. Extensive research was undertaken by Robinsons Malls’ Marcom Team to be able to deliver a “real life” experience. It will not only bring entertainment and amusement to its visitors, but also introduce vast knowledge about their fascinating existence, evolution and extinction, the press release said.
For entrance fee, group tours, advance bookings, and other details, interested parties may call Tel. Nos. (034) 441-1595/441-1842, the press release added
