bacolod (or the philippines for that matter) will never have world class athletes as long as half of the sports budget is pocketed by the powers that be. ;) sayang

thats true @champ...Lets give them a round of applause :) :applause::applause::applause:
i share your sentiments migs. Its a shame!!! and the worst is, they are now pointing fingers at each other. I go for the idea of NG that if Philippine Government cant handle the expenses for training, maybe we can ask help from Big businesses to help our athletes.
I notice here in US, the government never sponsored their sports program, kundi ang mga private company..... thats why naga rich ang mga athletes diri because of the endorsement....and depende sa gold medal mo....

actually, we have so many junior golfers from bacolod who can make it good in the international circuit. recently we bumped into Mia Piccio who was doing her rounds at marapara. Mia currently studies in the US and is honing her golf skills there in Florida.
as we speak, the 16th WGAP-LUZVIMIN Tournament is being held at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club, in Murcia, Negros Occidental. it started yesterday and ends tomorrow. the tournament brings no less that 500 lady golfers from all over the country to our city of Bacolod.
peho pagkatapos nila golf, da-da todotodo sang inasal  UUK (ilonggo version of LOL)

that's precisely the reason why nancy coughlin, that filam gold medalist turned down the offer of the psc to be part of the philippine swimming team. she's stand to lose those lucrative commercial endorsements once she decides to join the philippine team.:)

i think she's in Brandenton, Florida. IMG Golf Academy. the other Pinoy jungolfers are there too...marcel puyat and dottie ardina.
one of the best Pinoy golfers in the circuit today is Juvic Pagunsan. Juvic is from Binitin. This should make us Negrenses proud. :)
diin ka dira ya ngprof? hope you're not battered by the typhoon there.

Excellent idea,Migs!I think mas attractive kon cash prices kay they can have an option kon para diin gamiton ang ila madag-an.It's either para pang upgrade sang ila present photography equipment or for some other reason para sila magjoin sa contest and beside basi di nila magustuhan ang brand sang digicam kag ang features.Just my suggestion though.:D

if its a DSLR...just make sure its Canon or Nikon...the only 2 brands which has the greatest performance in photography... for point and shoot...make sure its sony!!!! if its cash...make sure its 30thousand or more to upgrade ones equipment. heheheheh mas demanding ko eh :)

thats right!!! for us to become a more metropolitan city, we should have something to attract more tourist and facilities that will cater more local visitors and tourists alike :) I hope our Government got something in their minds already. But for now, lets settle for Local Hotels that has good quality and standard at par with BIG hotels. :)

World sugar supply deficit good for RP, official says
An official of the Sugar Regulatory Administration yesterday said the expected tightening of world sugar supply in the next crop year and the subsequent firming of prices will be advantageous to the Philippines.
“It will be good for us,” Sugar Board Member Rafael Golez said in a telephone interview.
Golez said the development will provide the country’s sugar industry a better alternative to sell its surplus production that is, the world market. Also, he said higher sugar prices will greatly help sugarcane farmers who have been reeling from increasing production and fuel costs.
“It is something to monitor,” he said.
Golez said the SRA is expected to come up with sugar production figures for crop year 2007-2008 by August 30.
Merchant Czarnikov, in a wires report, forecasted a global deficit of 3.3 million tons of sugar during crop year 2008-2009, following a 9.4 million surplus in 2007-2008, indicating tighter supplies and prospect of prices firming further.
The report said raw sugar prices have already risen 23 percent this year, driven by a sharpened appetite by investment funds for sugar, and expectations of tightening supplies and rising demand.
A European broker also noted that the world is moving to a probable production/consumption sugar deficit in 2008-2009, and the withdrawal of India in the export market.*NLG

Negros Occidental cities join pact to shorten business licensing processes
Negros Occ. (21 August) -- In a move that would simplify the business permit processing in their respective LGUs, seven cities from this province entered an agreement with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the German Technical Cooperation to purse a streamlining scheme in business registration.
These cities include Bago, Silay, San Carlos, Cadiz, Kabankalan, Talisay and Sagay whose representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement a streamlining project that will shorten the normally long and winding process of getting business license.
DTI Provincial Director Rebecca Rascon sees the project as one way to attract foreign investors as they prefer efficient and simplified business transaction procedures.
Bacolod City gained higher taxes after implementing a "One Stop Shop" venue for business permits and licensing where different agencies involved are lined in series of booths and tables allowing businessmen to transact in one place only, Chief of Bacolod Permits and Licensing Division Ardis Jaculina, said.
The practice placed Bacolod City in the national limelight and served as a model for other cities to follow.
Dubbed "Streamlining of Business Permit and Licensing System Project," cities involved will be working out the agreed scheme on August next year and assign specific tasks to personnel who will man the project.
DTI Regional Director Jose Abad said the project is a history- making endeavor.
President Gloria M. Arroyo, in a bid to attract more foreign investors, urged foreign companies to put their business in the country with the assurance of a sound business climate. (PIA-LOL)

Treasure hunter granted permit
BY GILBERT BAYORAN
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has granted a permit to a Silay businesswoman to engage in a treasure-hunting activity in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.
The digging for alleged Japanese treasure in the property of Minerva Diaresco in Brgy. Tabigue, E.B. Magalona, came to a halt in previous months, when some residents complained and expressed fears of a possible collapse of soil in the place.
Region 6 MGB officer-in-charge Leo Van Juguan, in his letter to Diaresco, enjoined her to strictly abide the terms and conditions of the treasure-hunting permit.
Initial investigations show that the digging for alleged treasure started eight months ago, and an estimated 30-foot hole, five meters in diameter, has been dug.
Mayor David Albert Lacson yesterday assured a close monitoring of the treasure hunting activity. If it will pose danger to the lives of the people, Lacson said, he will not hesitate to issue an order of closing it town.
Tabigue Brgy. Capt. Mario Bolivar said the treasure-hunting activity should be limited to the area allowed by the law.
Bolivar said some barangay residents aired complaints about the noise from submersible water pumps and the fluctuation of electric current in the place, while the digging activity was ongoing.*GPB

Gov’t center opening may be delayed
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The opening of the new Bacolod City Government Center may be delayed by about 50 days because a re-bidding for the purchase of furniture and fixtures will have to be conducted, Bids and Awards chairman and Secretary to the Mayor Goldwyn Nifras said yesterday.
Nifras said there was a failure of bidding, since the three prospective bidders did not pass the eligibility and technical bid conducted at the new government center Wednesday, so they will have to start all over again.
The BAC and the committee that recommended the purchase of the furniture and fixtures with a budget contract of P50 million, will meet next week and decide when to conduct a re-bidding, he said. They will also decide whether or not to make modifications in the requirements, he added.
Nifras said that this will mean a delay in their transfer to the new government center. He said that the time of the invitation to bid is 20 days and the delivery will take another 20 days so he estimates that it will take them about 50 days from the time of publication.
Anybody who is interested may join the rebidding, Nifras said. The three prospective bidders can participate and he hopes they could correct their deficiency, he said. “I hope there will more bidders who will join,” he added.
Nifras said Comfac Corporation and Summit Furnishings Inc. were short in their paid up capitalization and documents, while the paid up capitalization of Zacto Systems Philippines Inc. was not clear.
He said the share of the foreign investor of Zacto Furnishing exceeded the 40 percent limit allowed by the Constitution.
Former Negros Occidental Board Member Victor Puey, who represented Zacto Furnishing, said their Taiwanese partner is listed in the Board of Investment. He said the BOI Finance Act compels foreign investors to own as much as 100 percent shares as long as they are not involved in the firearms and drugs business. He also cited that there are Korean and Japanese investors involved in road construction in the country.
Puey said they will participate in the rebbiding since their papers are complete although they were not in proper place when presented during the opening of bids.
He said he is proud that they followed all the details of the samples and these cost even four times those presented by the Comfac Corp. and Summit Furnishings, whom he suspected had colluded since their samples were delivered a night before the opening of bids, using the same container van from Manila.
However, the representatives of the two furniture companies denied the allegations saying they are separate companies.*CGS

OPEN MRI
Unlike its conventional counterparts, Open MRI's have no narrow tunnels to travel through and no loud noises associated with image generation. The open MRI decreases anxiety and discomfort substantially.
The Hitachi Open MRI offers additional comfort, as the patient is able to move around, and there are no claustrophobic feelings. The fact that it is open on all four sides permits slight movements, therefore allowing for ease of siting.
For our most delicate patients, such as children and those who require additional assistance and encouragement, our open MRI allows for friends or relatives to be close by and hold their hand, instead of just in sight.
The Hitachi Elite does not discriminate against those who cannot currently receive imaging. For instance, large patients and huge athletes, cannot fit in the tunnel, as well, handicapped persons and claustrophobics experience great distress in the tunnel. The innovative Hitachi Elite, found at Open MRI of Canada, alleviates this problem by increasing the weight limit, and accommodating all sizes of patients by the open gantry style.
CLOSED MRI
In the donut style MRI, patients will experience high discomfort due to the feeling of being enclosed. As well, the machine is extremely noisy to the point where earplugs are offered to patients. In addition, if an individual experiences high anxiety or feelings of claustrophobia, sedatives may be required, and chance of nausea will increase, as well costs.
Since patients are not permitted to move, any slight movements will prolong scanning times, reduce image quality, and patient throughput will be slow resulting in patient reports being delayed.
For pediatric patients sedatives must be given because movement is not allowed, as well, anxiety for the child will be high when parents or guardians are only within sight, not in reach.
Because the tunnel is an enclosed space, large patients are unable to receive an MRI and are not awarded the same health care; therefore the Open MRI offers an alternative for such patients who require imaging.

ExcelAsia expanding outside MM
Human resources solutions provider ExcelAsia is expanding its business outside Metro Manila, targeting strategic locations throughout the Philippines.
The move is in response to the fast-growing manpower demand of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry and clients in other traditional sectors.
ExcelAsia provides end-to-end human resource services, including sourcing, recruitment and training, to over 30 multinational companies in the Philippines. It also provides executive search and business consultancy services to its clients.
"At present ExcelAsia operates from two major locations – Makati and Cebu – and a satellite office in Alabang, said ExcelAsia president Rita Trillo-Ugarte.
"For our expansion plans this year, we have earmarked Alabang — this time for a fully featured facility — Baguio and Bacolod, as strategic sites for our new offices. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to support the growth of our clients’ businesses, regardless of their location.
Trillo-Ugarte said the move to establish a physical presence in multiple locations nationwide is a natural next step given the BPO industry’s development. "Our BPO clients are constantly looking for expansion opportunities in emerging BPO hubs all over the country. Most of them are already operating outside Metro Manila in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
"We want to support their human resource recruitment and management programs by being in these places, and getting first-hand information on the manpower supply in each of them," Trillo-Ugarte said.
"ExcelAsia will offer the same premier suite of services that we are delivering from our existing offices, including placement of qualified applicants and training of near-hires under the ‘PGMA’s Training for Work Scholarship Program,’" Trillo-Ugarte explained.
"We plan to train around 500 trainees per month in each of the new sites," she said. "We look forward to assisting untapped talent in these areas find gainful employment, and boosting the employment rate in these locations. (EHL)

RP links up with JICA to promote tourism
By BERNIE CAHILES-MAGKILAT
The Department of Tourism has recently signed a Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which will enable local government units (LGUs) to effectively plan their tourism promotions efforts with the aid of accurate tourist statistics and data.
Ace Durano, Secretary of Tourism explained that "the signing of the TCP between the DoT and JICA comes at a crucial time when the Philippines is intensifying its tourism promotion efforts,"
Under the 3-year TCP, JICA will conduct trainings for LGUs so they can accurately capture tourist arrivals in their areas. JICA will also develop manuals and training modules for participating LGUs.
It also involves software development and entails JICA to a unified format and database for tourism statistics among participating LGUs. Later on, the project will assist LGU’s to create marketing and planning strategies to improve tourist arrivals.
The TCP will focus on 130 municipalities in about 11 target provinces selected by the DoT. These provinces include Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Palawan, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Antique and Aklan (including Boracay).
"The tourism data coming from the LGUs is very important since they will give us an idea on the country’s top destinations and at the same time, this data will be used as basis for the DoT’s promotion and development efforts," Durano added.
Allan Cañizal, Director of the DoT Office of Tourism Development Planning admits that most LGU’s have poor understanding on the importance of tourism statistics.
At present, the government relies on the data given by the various air and ports for tourist arrivals. The movement of visitors to and from one destination to another is meantime determined through the assistance of accommodation establishment which provide data to LGUs. The LGUs will then submit their report to DoT regional offices for consolidation.
But Canizal emphasized that there is "very limited reports coming from LGUs so we really want to engage their help in data collection"
"We want to create awareness on the significance of tourism statistics among LGUs. We want to stress that these statistics are needed for the planning and marketing decisions on the part of the DOT regional and national offices," Cañizal added.
Cañizal likewise reported that the limited data coming from LGUs make it difficult to determine the destinations that need more government attention.
"They (LGUs) don’t look on the importance of tourism statistics so that is why we find it difficult to get the real situation in our destinations," he added.
Cañizal said that the TCP also aims to stress that accurate tourism statistics play a significant role in the marketing and investment campaign of LGUs.
"We firmly believe that the TCP would pave the way for the improved collection of tourism data in the country, which we can use to better plan our promotion and development efforts," Cañizal added.(BCM)

@SUGARBOY... its not only in Bacolod that people have this "wanted to be seen" attitude...it happens everywhere...but for the fact that Bacoleños really want to try something new and wanted to spend much on luxury is also one factor that needs to be considered...and yes, la corona coffee...i heard about it...its nice daw :) where is this located gani migs :)

I just hope that more investments will pour in the city once the New Govt. Center will be 100% functional. Bing and company must make the city more investment friendly to local and foreign companies. I think, Bacolod now has all the tools(infrastructures, manpower, etc etc) to deal with these investment woes.:)
That's right Mig Jeff.
The City Government must also encourage more Bacolenos to become an enterprenuer and involve in exporting nationally and internationally later on.At the moment, local businesses is one of the main driver of the local economy which is so vibrant.Giving good and attractives incentives for local businesses is one of the catch for local businessmen and in return, many jobs will be created.

If the local business community is vibrant, then it only shows a healthy/stable financial and capital market in Bacolod. This will only be perfect(almost) if capped by a united local government. But i hope with the advent of progress in Bacolod, the city will remain untarnished in the peace&order as well as clean&green departments.

the island of negros had a lot to offer, kulang lang gid ya ang supporting fascilities, pero so far, ok na sya, i was surprised when i go to mailum two weeks ago, roads there are concrete, very nice for bago to have their road network concreted or at least much we can say developed.
akshuli, pala lagaw ako, and human experience ang ginasugid ko sa mga poreners, well mas dako ila masave man guid tuod sang sa ma phuket sila nga mas nami pa d. like sa punta bulata, if at phuket they can shell out $700 for a 5 day vacation, sa bulata ya, $275 lang, 8 days pa.

thats right...and you can even save much if you'll be the one to reserve the place kay lain man rate sang local visitor sang sa foreign visitor. :) thats why if they have friends who live here, they can simply ask for help para maka save man sila :)

since theres like a speedstream in the middle, its like saying from farm to grands, i hope the ruins would be in the middle, like forest to farm to stately homes to ruins to modern structures. kinda like that, however for the banner itself, its mouthwatering its like me watching my gf on a two piece at talusan point. mmmmm

a ok, thanks for the suggestion :0 but putting ruins in the middle will remove the drama from the banner :) hehehe i set it on the side to give way on the vast landscape that Negros have :) Bali sa side ko lang siya gin butang para daw overlooking siya kuno sa Mt. Kanlaon which stands majestically in front of the grand mansion :)

^^ I like the banner that way. It signifies an old Negros during the heydays of the senyoritos y senyoritas . The vast fields and the ruins of an old mansion make it perfect to describe what was and what will be for the entire Negros province. just my two cents.:)

what i meant akshewli is, kanlaon and forest, then farms, then old houses, then the ruins, then the capitol, then modern edifices. from left to right in sequence bala. ang drama is historical.
ang sa banner mo isa ka drama ang mapaminsaran ko, tragedy.
SUV111
August 25th, 2008, 07:09 PM
tragedy gid ya migs? hehehe actually the story of ruins is tragic man gid and its part of the drama :)
hahahahaha!!! ok, its going to be difficult if your going to place all of it :) its hard to stitch those pictures in one frame :) and its going to look so packed :)
i made one banner which is being featured in experiencenegros blog. :) its like an evolution of structures :)
