The bldg on the left looked more interesting than the "kaayusan" poster.:) Is that new claddings installed sa Allied Bank along Araneta st?
no migs, dugay na na siya na renovate. :) but it actually looks good, the only thing that destroys the image are the wires. :) the building on the right is the old PNB building :)

Dinosaurs will roam once again at Robinsons Malls
THREE Robinsons Malls are expecting some really big visitors beginning this week. After its record-setting tours in France and Germany, the biggest interactive exhibition of robotic dinosaurs will visit three malls from August to October.
"This will be the first time that an exhibition of this magnitude will be staged on Philippine grounds," said Nilo Mapa, general manager, Robinsons Malls.
Replicas of dinosaurs from four different time periods namely Late Jurassic, Early Cretaceous, Late Cretaceous and Late Permian are now on display at Robinsons Place Bacolod until Sept. 2. They will then move to Robinsons Place Manila on Sept. 12 and be on display until Sept. 28. Their last stop will be at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga from Oct. 4 to 26.半
Robinsons Malls’ "Dinosaurs are Back" will feature nine fully automated robotic hydraulic dinosaurs weighing anywhere from 225 kg to 800 kg, with some standing over 15 feet. The nine dinosaurs in the exhibit are Tyrannosaurus Rex, Deinonychus, Triceratops, Apatosaurus, baby Apatosaurus, Dimetredon, Pachycephalosaurus, Stegosaurus and baby Stegosaurus.
Eunice Gonzales, Director of Marketing Communications for Robinsons Malls said the giant dinosaurs will be mounted and displayed in a garden-like set up simulating their original habitat. "This will then be complemented with a play of light and sound," she added.

@Annie, do you use any Creative Common License to protect your picture against marauding "pirates" such as commercial establishments and local dailies? Because there have been so many times that pictures of places have been used in commercial uses...one of the reasons why pro-photographers and even amateur photographers are very conscious about posting their pictures on the net.

gani man migs pero its quite difficult for now, dako ina na budget kung himoon nila and i believe they dont want to do it if its going to cost too much. :) the best thing is to create a new place like in cebu, they already have a business park where no more wires hanging up on the sidewlaks.

Breeding, dairy center
to be set up in NSCA
The Kabankalan City government will set up a modern breeding and dairy center inside the Negros State College of Agriculture campus in Brgy. Camingawan.
The facility, to be established in a five-hectare area, will provide students with learn skills and techniques in upgrading of native animals. Through its services, the city government will seek to improve the livestock and poultry industry in southern Negros and augment the supply of fresh milk in the area.
A memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the project was signed recently by Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco, Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco, and NSCA president Freddie Maningo.
The provincial government will release a P2-million counterpart fund for the project aside from providing stocks, including cattle, carabaos, goat, pigs and chickens.
In 2004, the provincial government had also established the Negros Dairy Zone that includes La Carlota City and the towns of Pontevedra, San Enrique, Moises Padilla and La Castellana. The following year, it put up the Negros Occidental Milk Processing Plant in Brgy. La Granja, La Carlota inside the compound of the Philippine Carabao Center.
The Codcod Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Codcod Agrarian Reform Community Cooperative in San Carlos City are also engaged in dairy milk production business

Jay-R Siaboc to
serenade shoppers
Jay-R Siaboc, Pinoy Dream Academy’s first runner-up, will serenade shoppers at the opening day of the Great 3-Day Sale of SM City Bacolod at 4 p.m. Friday at the Northwing Event Centre of the mall.
Siaboc is the vocalist of a band in Cebu, and also plays the guitar and drums. He is the youngest of five children. His father is a jeepney driver and his mother works at the Cebu pier ticketing office. His goal was to help his family financially when he auditioned for Pinoy Dream Academy, a press release from the mall said.
Siaboc first appeared on television on “Your Song”, and then played the role of Jeffrey in the mini-series Pangarap na Bituin. He then portrayed the role of neptune agent Enzo in ABS-CBN’s Palos.
Meanwhile, up to 50 percent off on great selections from the mall’s various tenants and affiliates will be offered during the Great 3-Day Sale from Friday until Aug. 31 at SM City Bacolod.
Additional discounts can also be availed of by SM Advantage Card members on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., when they shop at SM Department Store-Bacolod. For every P500 minimum purchase, shoppers will also get a chance to win a Panasonic LCD TV and refrigerator, the press release said.
There will also be a spectacular fireworks display at 10 p.m. Friday, to be shot by Peacock, SM City Bacolod’s Pyromagic 2007 champion, the press release added.*

share ko lang ang famous Bacolodian a :) hehehe
Designer Rafe Totengco launched his namesake handbag collection in 1995. Since then, the RAFE brand has grown to include women’s handbags, shoes and small leather goods. Known for its balance of fashion and function, RAFE blends uptown sophistication with downtown edge while remaining classic enough to be worn for many seasons to come.
In 2006, Target tapped Rafe as the first accessories designer to create a capsule collection for the mass retailer, setting a precedent for all those to follow.
In 2007, Rafe had the pleasure of designing the bridesmaid clutches for actress Eva Longoria's wedding to Tony Parker. A similar style of the one-of-a-kind minaudiere is currently available.

His name Rafe came from his original long name Ramon Felix Totengco

I'm giving my all-out support for a SSC banner of Bacolod! :)
Pero mas nami tani if the shots aren't photoshopped. We have to find a shot that completely describes the city (or province if you want) without cropping one section of an image and pasting that to another. It'll look more natural IMO.

Oh yeah, if you want to help in the improvement of the Wikipedia article about Bacolod, you can license your pics so that you can also take credit for them, of course, there should be no watermarks,. You can upload them at Flickr and license them as CC-BY-SA http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bd/Cc-by_white.svg/25px-Cc-by_white.svg.pnghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/df/Cc-sa_white.svg/25px-Cc-sa_white.svg.png or CC-BY http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bd/Cc-by_white.svg/25px-Cc-by_white.svg.png. Luzvimin Golf Tournament
Southwoods dethrones Del Monte
Manila Southwoods collected 249 points in the final day to win the Diamond championship title in runaway fashion in the recent 16th Luzvimin golf tournament held at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Murcia, Bacolod.
Tagaytay Higlands and Alabang Country Club shared the limelight with Manila Southwoods by topping the Ruby and Pearl divisions, respectively, in the three-day event staged annually by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines (WGAP).
With the tournament title already secured after the second round, Southwoods was still relentless and padded its lead further to a whopping 60 points over dethroned defending champion Del Monte, which only managed a 684 after a 219 in the tournament using Molave system in scoring.
Regine de Guzman, a stalwart for the women’s national team, led the Cavite-based squad with 54 points, which is equivalent to an even-par 72 at the Binitin layout.
She was supported by Lora Roberto (53), Beachie Abiera (49), Kat Gonzales (48) and Claire Ong (45).
"We never imagined we’ll win by this much because of the balance of power among the teams that competed. We are happy to pull this one through," said Southwoods captain Claudine Garcia.
Tagaytay Higlands, meanwhile, made 186-566 to score a come-from-behind victory over the fancied host team of Bacolod (186-564) in the Ruby division.
Paz Domingo (40), Farrah Imperial (39), Totelle Dimson (39), Hedy See (38), and Karen Buenaventura (36) contributed to the winning cause of Highlands which closed out with 186 for a 54-hole aggregate of 566 points.
Hannah See (34), Rosalie Heo (31) and Marissa Vergara (21) did not count in the eight-to-play, five-to-count format

INT’L EXPERT SAYS
Hydro power potential in Neg. Occ. very highBY CARLA GOMEZ
An international hydraulic engineering consultant yesterday said Negros Occidental has a very high potential for hydroelectric power that should be tapped.
Bruce Sharp, a director of Burnell Research Laboratory in Australia, said he is gathering data on the potential areas for large and mini-hydro electric plants in Negros Occidental and will help the provincial government tap foreign investors for them.
Sharp, who met with Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday, said he was conducting studies, which include measuring water volume in potential hydro electric power sources, on the request of Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr., a long time friend.
Zayco said he welcomes the help of Sharp because “if we can tap our water for hydro power, irrigation and potable water it would be very good.”
Sharp said seven rivers with the potential for large scale hydro electric plants in Negros Occidental are Himogaan in Sagay City, Sicaba in Victorias City, Malogo in Silay City, Binalbagan, Ilog-Hilabangan, Sipalay and Talos in Don Salvador Benedicto town.
But he is also looking at the development of mini-hydro plants that will have the ability to supply something like 150 kilowatts of electricity, Sharp said.
A 150 kilowatt plant would cost about $500,000, he said.
From the Philippines he is going to Japan to talk with engineers there on hydro projects and explore funding sources for Negros projects, Sharp said.
“My interest at the moment is on the small scale plants for small towns because once you put them in place you can develop good potable water,” he said.
“The big projects are five to 10 years down the track because you would not get support for a very big project without a lot of very extensive properly recorded data made over several seasons,” he said.
Hydro power is also the best way to get carbon credits payment, he said.
Marañon said one of our biggest resources in Negros is water and the province is lucky to have Sharp’s help for free because he is well known and respected in his field internationally, “if we had to pay him for his work it would cost us millions of dollars.”*CPG

Furniture bidding fair, Sayson says
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson yesterday said the bidding for the purchase of furniture and fixtures for the Bacolod City Government Center was fair and its result clearly showed that there was no favored supplier since nobody qualified.
Sayson was reacting to allegations that there were some city officials who had asked for a share in the budget for the purchase of the furniture.
He said the comments were made purely to discredit the Leonardia administration which is the only administration that has made major inroads on the problems of Bacolod.
Sayson said that among the programs realized by the present administration are the government center, which has been a dream of every mayor in the past, the safe meat program which was started during the Verdeflor administration, and added that the most serious effort ever made on the drainage problem was done during the time of Mayor Evelio Leonardia since it is one of their priority projects.
Their political opponents could not present any program or projects of their own and he believes that these allegations are all in preparation for 2010, Sayson said. Compared to other administrations, the present one has accomplished many things for the city, he said.
Sayson said the purchase of a permanent dumpsite is one of the best decisions made by the city in the past several years since it used to borrow in the past. It is the first serious effort of the local government to have a permanent dumpsite but their political opponents are trying to discredit it because it is a feather on the cap of the city officials, he said.
“We are serious in creating a Solid Waste Management program,” Sayson added.
Councilor Al Victor Espino said that if they allowed themselves to be intimidated by those allegations, the city would have no government center now or even a dumpsite. Those who are issuing such statements do not understand what they are talking about, he said.*CGS

i've always thought of the bandstand as a beauty, but until last night, i didn't know it was THAT beautiful... yes, we have been taking the public plaza for granted... that's what i said when i talked to this teacher from amsterdam who i met sa plaza sang monday pag shoot namon. we were thinking of the same stuff about sa plaza nga dapat i restore sya, like i label ang trees, i repaint(?) ang tiles and fountains... it's just that the plaza isnt a place for strolling anymore. people usually go to the mall instead when they're bored... ako mas gusto ko mag shoot nalang sa higad2x... this is what i love about bacolod. you can shoot in the most crowded streets without the fear of your dslr being snatched from you. daw ginarespeto ka di basta may dslr ka... kapoy bah....

^^ Bacolod has its own metropolitan area. I guess it envelopes the cities of Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, or even Bago(?). Trade, commerce, population, land area and infrastructures must also be considered for one to be identified solely as a metropolis. Just my two cents. :)
I agree with this. daw metro manila and city of manila. or metro cebu and cebu city
I don't think na ang bacolod can be called metro bacolod like cebu and manila ky population pa lng kulang na ta.. Economy ok na but medyo dugangan ta pa gd.. but how come others claim na metro na cla but infact kulang pa ang mga requirements to become a metropolis?

^^ Actually, the aggregate of urban centers is what we usually define as "metropolis." While some cities haven't got that "required metropolitan ambiance" like a sprawling urban area, some areas are taking initiatives to create metropolitan councils in order to correspond with the neighboring urban/rural centers within the vicinity of a primate city or an urban center. Because urban expansion is inevitable, it needs cooperation from the other towns as well.
Anyway, this topic just reminds me of those days. The great SSC Philippines debate on the definition of what is a "metropolis?"...:D Those days that should never be repeated again..... :D

^^ Ambot kon ano gid nga matuod ang standard for being a "metro city." In AIM's definition, these are the cities about 500,000+ or half a million people living in one city or under an urban aggregate like that of Metro Cebu (although this still has an issue on what is the real demarcation although RDC-7 has identified the towns and cities under MetroCebu) and Metro Manila (as defined as NCR, since Marcos era).

^^the best way i think to consider a city a metroplolitan is the kind of infrastruture that is present within and around and the standard of living its citizens have. its awkward to consider a city a metroploitan area if the nearby place attached to it is undeveloped.

A metropolitan area is an agglomeration of one or several main cities like Metro Manila, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Dallas-Ft. Worth. There is no requirement the total metropolitan population should be at least one million. Also, there is no requirement that each city should be built up, if there is, Davao would definitely not be considered a metropolis.
The Bacolod metropolitan area already includes Silay, Talisay, Bago, Murcia, and Pulupandan and the total population should be around 800,000. The built-up commercial, residential, and industrial areas of Bacolod, Talisay and Silay are less than 15 minutes apart. Bago, Pulupandan, and Murcia are a bit further away.
habagatcentral1
August 28th, 2008, 07:47 AM
^^ Actually the basis of a metropolitan area in AIM is a aggregation of urban areas. In the US, they have the so-called "Megalopolis" in the Eastern Seaboard since NYC-BOS-WDC-BTW-PHL (which are "metropolises" of their own) are so close to each other.
If some people still cannot get why some cities who are not "eligible enough" to be a metro city because of the population, create a metropolitan council or area, its because of one noble reason:
For cooperation between the city center (primate city) and the surrounding towns/cities (which are within the vicinity of the primate city) in terms of urban development. Remember that urban development expands and not implode. So, you may see a sleepy town today but within the next decade it would be an urban area since the city center itself is saturated. It spreads the development towards other areas as well. Thus Imelda became the Governor of MetroManila, the predecessor of today's Bayani MMDA.
Look at Manila and its environs in the 20th Century. Makati was a sleepy suburb and QC was a rolling hacienda of the Tuazons during the early 20th century. Later it became the prime urban centers of the country, just simply because of the outward movement of development coming from the primate city of Manila.
Simply because in economic and social development, it doesn't recognize political borders. Urban areas sprawl in time as according to some theories. ;)

I thought the Regional Dev't Council - Region 6 defined Metro Bacolod as composed by Bacolod City, Silay City and Talisay City only? Whereas I think Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce has another definition of who is to compose of Metropolitan Bacolod area (which I think includes Bago City and Murcia in their list).

COA best proof for gov’t center’
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
If there are issues concerning the contract price of the new Bacolod City Government Center, the best argument is the evidence of the Commission on Audit, Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, said yesterday.
“Personally, for me it is one the most beautiful City Halls I have ever seen in my entire life all throughout the country,” Abalos said.
The mayors who arrived in Bacolod City Tuesday for the 3rd LCP Island Caravan, were given a tour of the new government center later.
Abalos said he has no idea about the price of the government center, when asked to comment on the issues against the project. “There will always be words but the best evidence will always be the evidence of the COA,” he said.
“If these issues have been brought before the proper institution, let that institution decide on the issue,” Abalos also said.
A COA Regional Office VI technical report said that the P394 million contract price of the new government center is “reasonable”.
The COA report said that a review of the technical and engineering aspect of the project reveals that the contract price amounting to P394,957,121.01 is found to be 8.18 percent above the COA Cost Evaluation hence, it is considered reasonable based on Section 7 of COA Resolution No. 91-52 adopted on Sept. 17, 1991.
COA regional cluster director Inocencio Cabahug Jr. issued the report in response to the request of State Auditor Sheila Portal of Bacolod City for the review and evaluation of the contract of agreement entered into by and between the Bacolod City government and Hilmarc’s Construction Corp. represented by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and HCC president Efren Canlas, respectively.
Ormoc City Mayor Eric Codilla said “It is fortunate for you that your City Hall was almost finished before the prices of construction materials increased.” He said he believes the price of the new government center of Bacolod is good at this point in time.
Codilla said they started the construction of their new City Hall in Ormoc in 2002 and this is being done on a phase by phase scheme because they did not want to incur a loan.
Economically, it is good that the construction of the government center of Bacolod was continuous, Codilla said. The City Hall of Ormoc would not have cost them P400 million if the price of construction materials did not increase, he said. Until now the construction of their City Hall with a floor area of about 14,000 square meters has not yet been completed, he added.
Codilla said their P400 million budget does not include the landscaping, while the new government center of Bacolod costs P394, and includes the site development.
Abalos said a City Hall is the seat of government and the new government center is a fitting symbol of Bacolod. He congratulated Leonardia saying that they have been inspired by what he has done.
He also thanked the mayors of Negros Occidental for their warm hospitality since their arrival in Bacolod Tuesday for the 3rd LCP Caravan which aims to bring development services to the countryside.
The mayors distributed wheelchairs and eyeglasses, provided livelihood support, scholarship grants and medicine and vitamin supplements to the cities they visited in Negros Occidental.
The caravan, which is a flagship project of the current LCP leadership, provides a venue for the city mayors to discuss issues and for the host cities to showcase their local programs and projects. It also engages national government agencies, private sector, and other institutions in development.*CGS

Labay lang ni akon people... Just a good news to everyone.. A New account is opening here at TeleTech Bacolod this September. It will be supporting Australian customers for an Internet Service Provider Company based in Sydney. That means more Job Opportunities for the People of Bacolod and the rest of the province. Teletech Clients are so satisfied with the services and performance of its bacolod employees in terms of quality and dedication to be excellent on the job they are into. TeleTech has also plans of expanding the site and occupy the entire 2nd Level of Robinson's Cybergate Bacolod. Hence, one of its current DSL account is expanding rapidly and has now 600+ people. To date, Teletech Bacolod has more than 1700+ employees and still counting.. Hope we could continue to provide pool of talents not only for Teletech but also for other BPO companies that are existing and also for upcoming players to invade the city. ^^wow. the way you take your shots miga, you even made it more fascinating. you know, i never got the chance to really make an astute look of the bandstand, not until now. sometimes, we take for granted things that we are too familiar with. and the bandstand is one of them. for me its just one of the trees in the concrete jungle of bacolod. never thought the design of the ceiling is the same with the ground below. very nice.
Thanks @annie_may for these great pics of Bacolod Plaza's bandstand. What i dont like about Bacolod Plaza is that the lawns/greens are fenced. Or shall we say most of our public parks are fenced. This type of park design is so outdated. Parks should be open and sprawling. More benches, with jogging path, bike lane, etc etc.:)

Actually, people are not keen on the topic if a place is supposed to be a metro or not. So long as 75% or 99% of our population can have 3 healthy meals a day and high monetary liquidity among its populace, thats enough already. Having such title is just for aggregation and statiscal purposes only.:)

You do have an option to take the DVO-ILO flight for now which serves 3x weekly. At least it will be the most direct flight from Davao to Western Visayas and it will only take you less than an hour from ILO-BCD.
Anyway, wishing that there would be a direct DVO-BCD flight in the near future. But for now, 3 options: take the ship DVO-BCD, fly DVO-CEB-BCD or fly DVO-ILO then take a fast craft to BCD. :)
