Construction work on the multi-billion-dollar Afrodite Beach is on schedule. The project is expected to be launched before the end of the year.

In an interview with New Era, prominent Walvis Bay-based businessman John Savva confirmed that all major groundwork, which includes sewerage, water reticulation and electricity networks, has been completed. Telecommunication networks at the site have also been completed
The development will consist of a single entrance, 18-metre-wide roads lined with palm trees and an aesthetically friendly boundary wall around the entire development. Colourful sidewalks and a landscape of green belt will also be created facing the seafront erven. When New Era visited the construction site, workers were putting final touches to some roads, which have mainly been laid from interlocks. Part of the more than 2000 palm trees, which will be planted in and around the development, as part of the oasis in the desert theme, have already been planted.

According to Savva, this luxury development aims to create a secure and peaceful residential estate, blending harmoniously with the natural desert environment.

Afrodite Beach is set on the unspoilt prime beachfront some 10 km north of Walvis Bay. Upon its completion, the beachfront project will consist of various sized modern housing units, villas, a luxury hotel with executive suites, hotel units and commercial facilities. Other facilities that will form part of the project will be hotel apartments, conference and wedding facilities and a health spa. Actual construction of apartments and business buildings will kick off early next year.

Savva is optimistic that his long-time dream, the Afrodite Beach, will attract new investors to the region and the country as a whole upon completion. He noted that the developments could become a hub for tourists, many of whom flock from landlocked African countries to the Namibian coast during the holiday seasons.

The project will cost N$1.2 billion and is expected to provide more than 500 direct jobs to the local market, while construction will utilise the expertise and skills of more than 300 builders and craftsmen.

A team of architects, developers, surveyors and engineers was contracted to breathe life into the Afrodite Beach project. The development is the first to utilise a stormwater drainage system in the region.

The Afrodite Beach development derives its name from the Greek goddess of love, beauty and fertility also known as Venus in Roman mythology.
Afrodite Beach will add to a growing number of investments being planned for the harbour town of Walvis Bay. A waterfront, which is part of the Namibia Ports Authority's expansion plans. A bulk fuel storage terminal, a coal-fired power plant and other developments are also envisaged for Walvis Bay.

Afrodite Beach development offers a piece of paradise at the coast

FRIDAY, 13 MARCH 2009 08:03

After 13 years of planning the visionary Afrodite Beach development outside Walvis Bay, owner and developer John Savva excitedly announced this week that during 2009 the first houses will start being built, reaching a milestone in this first of its kind property project in the region.

Set on the unspoilt stretch of prime beachfront just ten kilometres north of the harbour town, a team of specialized professionals such as Town Planners, Engineers, Environmentalist, Architects and Landscapers have left nothing out in their planning to create the most luxurious and modern residential estate, which, once completed will change the face of the coast line forever.

Preparation of the infrastructure works of this exotically located shore-hugging multi development complex commenced around three years ago, when the entire beach land portion stretching over two kilometres in length had to be cleaned, cleared and raised. All existing rubble and remains were hauled off which included rusted remains of an old railway line.

Progress is being made daily, and all the services are in place which includes storm water services, electrical cables, and telephone lines. In addition two separate water installations per erven, one for drinking and the other for semi-purified water to encourage vegetation and plant life while saving precious water, is the first of this kind in the world to offer such a facility.

This exclusive development will have multiple beachfront homes consisting of various sized modern housing units, villas, a luxury hotel, conference facilities, health spa, apartment blocks and commercial facilities, all of which will blend harmoniously with the natural desert environment, and an ambience that will compete with the best in the world.

The 100 000 square metres of attractive interlocked roads, walk ways that wind in between portions of open space where buildings will soon be springing up are completely laid, and at least 90% of the paving and sidewalks are completed with paths leading down to the beach.

With erven now available, estate agents have been appointed to market the most exclusive address along the coastline offering potential buyers of Afrodite Beach a little piece of paradise.

The elevated position of Afrodite Beach offers a splendid view of the Atlantic Ocean with passing ships, or for those positioned in the back row a panoramic scene of desert dunes and the sea.

Free hold Title Deed erven ranking from 500m2 to 17 800m2. that will all be built along a ‘Common Architectural Guidelines and Conditions’, still allow for personal taste. After buying an erf, investors will be able to choose an Architect and Engineer of their choice but “some Guidelines” will have to be maintained.

According to the plan, all buildings will be characterized by a flat roof, no matter what the design. The professionals appointed must ensure that they are acquainted with the Guidelines and Conditions applicable to Afrodite Beach in keeping with its overall theme specification.

The entire development which is over five kilometres in circumference will be walled in with six surveillance cameras positioned in strategic position. Everything is pleasing on the eye and the surrounding natural habitat, inclusive of some 1 000 palm trees that were planted as an exotic green zone positioned between the highway and the development.

Savva who is the mastermind of this ‘first of its kind’ N$1,5-billion stretch of exclusive accommodation and hotel venture, said he has watched with eager anticipation the progress of his dream development unfolding day by day. “Although this is my dream, I want to share it with others who have passion for comfort and style” he says.

Savva who is also the (Chairperson Walvis Bay Chamber Commerce), expects the project will provide more then 500 jobs to the local market whilst building is underway, and said that the entire development is scheduled for completion within five years, and will also become a major tourist attraction to Namibia.
