Macedonia National Stadium (up to now Gradski Stadion) in Skopje

There are two variations - the white version with the stripes and the red "glass only" version

Right now the northern stand is being built (demolition of the old northern stand was in January, construction started in February, and the deadline is June 2009). Only then the construction of the eastern and western stands will begin and also the extensive facelift of the existing southern stand, which will finish with the replacement of its provisional roof.

Glad to see they're finally going ahead with this stadium.

I remember seeing this proposal a while back but capacity was supposed to be higher, up to 50,000.

Anyways, great stadium especially if they go with the red seats.

Well you know how people tend to exagorate capacity when it comes to stadiums. 50000 is only possible if it's not an all-seater.

The projects for the eastern and western stands are not yet finalized and also there is no final solution for the scoreboard and the screen, so the capacity might go 2-3k above 35 in the end, but it's more likely it will be around 35.

only 35k? any expanding psobility later on?

Considering the shape, I doubt that it will be ever considered. Anyway, 35 should be enough for Macedonia for quite some time. We can always build a new bigger one if the need arises :p

I love and respect Toshe, but naming the stadium after him would be as stupid as the current name. Let them name a concert hall after Toshe.

For the stadium they should pick an apropriate name such as a footballer or according to its location or find a sponsor and name it after it.

I have a bad feeling about the title...I don't have to be an oracle to see the future of this thread....
And what is the future of this thread? Closed? Like you so inocently suggested that possibility the last time a greek came here trolling (thankfully I see the comments were removed ;) )

You wish! If greeks keep interrupting the thread with BS, you don't need to be an oracle to see that it will result with them being banned rather than the thread being ruined or closed.

Stop spamming already and keep your "concerns" to yourself. It's the official name of the stadium now. If you don't like it to that extent, stop visiting the thread. Is't that simple! ;)

As for the stadium, it doesn't seem to look like the first page renderings...It is being built exactly or very closely like that. The only difference so far is that instead of the fully transparent part of the roof they are installing semi-transparent panels. From a practical point of view I think it's way better, but when it comes to aesthetics I'm not so sure.

ReiAyanami

Hey nh1la, I have been very neutral in this thread so please. And when I said about the first page renderings:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q213/realek/pp080.jpg

I meant that there is no work done on the small sides or the outer shell. Does the new capacity describe the renderings or just the addition of the big stand?

dewrob
July 7th, 2009, 12:55 AM
the small sides, overhauling of the southern (old) stand and the outer shell are yet to be constructed. The construction of the small sides should start sometime this year if they stick to the plan.

This is quite similar to the stadium that is being built in my home town, Cluj. Only this looks bigger than 33k, maybe that's because of the steep stands.

That's because the red seats have plastic covers over them. When they will be removed, then the stadium will look amazing.

^^

One can't take a good pic of the exterior because of that building near the stand obstructing the view. You also can't get between the stand and the building to take a pic because the area is closed for the construction works.

Hopefully the building will be dmolished because it is a result of corrupt activities and illegal altering of the urbanistic plans. Some of the involved are serving jail sentences which is a good signal, but still its demolition is not ensured as it is a complicated case.

If the building stays, the best view of the stadium will be ruined :ohno:

and, i want to answer to some questions above...
National Arena Filip II Makedonski will be "home" of Macedonian national team, FK Vardar and FK Rabotnicki.
The capacity of southern platform is 11 400 seats, plus officials. Curently, there is a separate place for visitor fans. For bigger fan groups, now and i hope in the future too, the whole eastern platform would be reserved.
The new, northern platform have 10 500 seats, plus journalists and officials.
Building of others two stands is curently delayed, but i hope not for long... :) recesion...

yeap... I think the first step after this will be new seats and new roof for the old stand. Than construction of the smaller stands, than finishing the outside and the additional features of the objects.

I'm just not sure if the parking facilities will be built now. I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread but if you check the stadium out on Google Earth you will see it is right beside the river. The two main exits from the new stand should be directly connected to two pedestrian bridges if I'm right to the other river bank where we should have some multiple floor parking lots and stuff.

Officially that will be the number once it gets finished in 2011.

South stand: 12,000
North Stand: 10,007
West and East: 14,304

Some more info from that article, in the VIP section (capacity 456) there will be leather seats and the guests will be using an inside elevator to get there. Also there will be 248 seats for the media including 22 inside studios.

Here is the actual quote

It explicitly says the final capacity will be 36,400 :dunno:

The north stand 10007 (although he says 10000, when you do the math 9303+456+248=10007)
The south stand, he says will go from 11477 to 12000 (removal of VIP and media), but it is probably rounded down like for the north stand, because 12000 doesnt fit right for the total capacity. It should be 12089 for a total of 36400
The east and west stands 2x7152

Its for the national team. They love theirs more then we love ours  Macedonia is great example for Slovenia. Same size country, same population number. But they are building new 35k and we are building 16k. Even Skopje is pretty much same size as Ljubljana.

Actually Skopje is 650.000 and that's not good for our city because the rest of the cities in the country dont develop so fast as Skopje does.

Beetle
March 13th, 2010, 07:57 PM
I don't get it. We here in Heerenveen constantly need to update our stadium due to the demand in tickets. The current stadium holds 27000 fans (in league configuration). And still there's a waiting list for season tickets of about 3500. Our stadium will be under reconstruction this coming summer.

What I don't get is this. I know this stadium will be in use for international matches but judging from the pictures I see in this topic it's WAY too big for the domestic league club that is calling this stadium a home. How does a (relativlely) small cub afford such a huge stadium? Will this not be a massive financial burden?

Well the name of this stadium tells its main purpose: National Arena Philip II of Macedon and the main reason for building it is the National Team of Macedonia.

Macedonia has a total population of around 2 million people. Capital city Skopje has population of around 700 000.

There are many differences in football between other countries such as the Netherlands and Macedonia mostly the ways that clubs are being managed. Bad management in Macedonian football caused decreasing the popularity of Macedonian league and some clubs such as Vardar are on the edge of existance.

This arena before expanding and renovation was small to fill demands for tickets when Macedonian national team plays. Before this project to take place the capacity was just 18 000 seats. I am not really sure but i think that Macedonian government is the main investor, also small amount comes from the Macedonian Football Federation.

after

so nobody really expects in near future to see full stadium during home league but nobody knows what future brings.

I dont think that this roof is much of a help when there is rain with slight wind

well the main purpose of the roof is as much as it can to protect the spectators but on the other hand very small number of stadiums around the world have complete protection from the rain for the spectators...also if the roof is expanded towards the field it may cause lack of sun light for the grass...

 there is unconfirmed information that angle is around 45 , but it really gives the spectators amazing view of the game. That steep makes the stadium to look bigger and it creates awesome atmosphere for the game...

Honestly, being a greek the name chosen for this stadium makes this whole case appauling to my eyes...It was always "Φιλιππος"= "the one who loves horses" in greek. It's like polish naming a stadium "Friederickzy the Velikezjy" just to calim Prussian heritage from the Germans...

And I apologise for the offtopic and my miserable knowledge in slavic, in a thread for an otherwise very interesting and unique venue in the counrty of our full of nerve neighbours to the north... I know this is supposed to be just stadiums and not politics, but the name alone and the thread title itself constitute a political act.

I would love to see it finished though...(and with a different name-of a proper proud slavic figure preferably).
