Travancore Builders is NOT based at Anandhapuri.

@sanju - All the Heera Projects in Trivandrum are going in full swing. They have announced the Calicut project just first quarter of this year and not one and half years back. Btw, what hide and seek game are they playing. Project delay is common in real estate industry and nothing special with Ananthapuri builders.

Check This (http://www.heeragroup.com/newsletter2010/firstQuarter.html)

Man why you have to take it at heart? we were just kidding!!

One thing i can say, you may be talking about the official announcement, but we have heard about it even before, from some of the reliable sources here in SSC, they include some of the trivandrum forumers!!

Marry Brown is not a ‘desi’ chain. It is a multinational chain based in Malaysia.

Same with Chicking. It is also a multinational chain based in UAE.

Personally speaking I do not find any difference in these fried chicken brands. Here in Bangalore I prefer the local ‘mallu’ clones of BFC (Big Boy Fried Chicken) and CFC (Century Fried Chicken) rather than KFC.

If the byepass stretch from Elathur to Ramanattukara becomes 4-lane, then it would complement the growth of the IT parks at Thondayad and the knowledge park at Ramanattukara.I think this would boost the new development along this stretch.

FYI,This,KMC, is NOT a Bangalore based Company. It is headquartered in Hyderabad. It is having regional offices in Chennai & Bangalore in South. The owner of the group is a Congress MP,Mr Krishna Mohan Reddy representing Nellore constituency in LS.
In Kerala they already engaged in the 4/6 laning of Angamaly-Mannuthy and Mannuthy-Wadakkanchery stretch of NH-47 under NHDP.

Land acqusition had finished long back. Even they didnt able to finish the flyovers in Thrissur Byepass and Chalakkudy (Where no land acquisition was required). Chalakkudy flyover was the first structure started by the company(Dont remember in which year it got started). Still it is not complete and no progress at all :bash:

Yeah we also have those here n Qatar. But Sudheeshji, KFC is indeed special. and i love their salads most.

There is a city where the KFC people go behind the customers.
You could also see empty KFC shops at this place, just adjacent to another brand. This brand is Jeddah's own AL-BAIK.

In every nook and corner of Jeddah you would find an Al-BAIK outlet. (Like the Agrawal Sweets of Delhi). You would also see one KFC outlet in the vicinity - but less or NIL customers.

People would be standing in long queues in AL-BAIK shop, while the KFC man would be canvassing the passers by like anything - including road service.
(KFC kkarante jaada kaaantha yaeka nagaram Jeddah aayirikkum).

Due to Al-BAIK's invasion into this sector of food items market, the authorities are not giving sanction for Al-BAIK to open outlets in outer cities of Saudi. But recently they opened three outlets in Mecca and one each at Yanbu & Medina.

ULCCS is very good in their workmanship.Calicut would not have got all these infrastructure ready, if it was given to a different contractor.

1)They were always on thier schedule
2)No stoppage of the undertaken projects in the middle
3)Atleast provided a satisfactory quality to the work carried out

Wait for the ongoing projects to complete, beach beautification and 4-laning and malaparamba byepass.

I don't think even anti-left group also have any complaints against them, since the society is controlled by Leftists.

Sanju, the bend in the central span surface, and the uneven and unfinished outer-walls, all are not the problem with them??? I agree the Bypass looks great, but why the hell there is small cuts in the dividers in every single 'idavazhi' junctions ?? do u ever walk through the footpaths in the opposite side of Canoli Canal?? after every four steps you take you have to getdown for some 1 or 1.5 feet to cross a driveway to a house, an office or even a pettikkada. I didnot see anyone walk through it all are walking through the road. so the road is just 3lined one not four line.

Something to learn from the KINALOOR issue.

The ruling party have won handsomely there despite all the alligations , there by showing who the local people are supporting and what they think about the project.

4.3 hectares of land to be acquired

Project to cost Rs.52 crore

Kozhikode: The State government has given final approval for the third phase of the Chembukadavu mini-hydel power project in the district.

The project, estimated at Rs.52 crore, is expected to be completed within two years with a capacity to generate 14 million units of power a year.

A pre-construction survey is now on. As much as 4.3 hectares of private land will have to be acquired.

The Kerala State Electricity Board plans to finish the survey and the acquisition within a year.

A divisional office of the board will be set up in the project area to coordinate various works and deploy staff.

Iswar Naik, Executive Engineer and project officer, says the team assigned to supervise the activities will initially prepare a detailed project sketch with details of the land to be acquired and the alignment within two months. The tender process will begin soon after acquiring land.

Building a power house 400 metres from the Chembukadavu market and a small dam across the Chalappuzha are the main civil works.

Reuse

Board officials say the water used by phases 1 and 2 to generate power will be reused in the new phase. Only a 1.3-km-long underground tunnel have to be laid to do so.

The board has started steps to open divisional offices in Koodaranhi and Thiruvambady panchayats to set up two more mini-hydel projects.

Kozhikode, Nov.12

The land acquisition process for Cyberpark, being promoted by the Kerala IT Department, is expected to be completed by the end of December this year.

The park is proposed to be established in 43 acres of land and the revenue team has completed the field work, which will shortly submit the Detailed Valuation Statements to the Government, according to Mr Binu Pazhoor, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberpark.

The Chief Minister, had in May last, laid the foundation stone for the park, which would be the third IT park hub in Kerala after Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi.

The Cyberpark will be the hub for two spoke-parks planned in Kannur and Kasaragod.

Space booking

Mr Binu said a number of companies had already shown interest in setting up their units in the park and the official process for opening the booking of space would be initiated in the first week of next month.

To begin with, land would be allotted to co-developers.

He said architects had been selected for the master-planning of the spoke-parks in Kannur and Kasaragod, and the work order to begin the preparation of the master plans would be handed over shortly.

The architect for setting up the proposed Technolodge in Kannur has also been selected and the work on the design would start soon.

Kozhikode: District Collector P.B. Salim has said that Kozhikode will be declared as a plastic waste-free region on January 26.

He was inaugurating a get-together of heads of schools in the district in connection with the Mass Action for Plastic waste free (MAP) campaign, a project conceived jointly by the District Sanitation Mission, district administration and the Department of Education, here on Monday.

Dr. Salim said that a concerted effort was needed for eliminating plastic waste. Steps would be taken to punish those indulging in the sale and distribution of illegal plastic carry bags. There would be an alternative to plastic carry bags. A recycling plant would also be set up, he said.

The MAP would be implemented in five phases. Awareness programmes would be conducted for students, Kudumbasree workers, arts and sports clubs and local libraries. An exhibition would be organised in schools this month-end.

Measures would be taken by December 20 to declare all educational institutions plastic-free campus. An action plan would be adopted in all the schools. A monitoring committee has been constituted to supervise the activities, he said.

The district administration also planned to discourage the use of disposable glasses and plates. Flex boards and plastic festoons would be banned.

A. Achyuthan, environmentalist, presided over the meeting. T. Shobhindran, eco-activist; P.T. Lakshmanan and K. Shobana, District Education Officers spoke.

Rs.76 lakh spent for beautification of building

Houses artefacts from 1,000 BC to 200 AD

Kozhikode: The Pazhassi Raja Archaeological Museum at East Hill here reopened on Friday after renovation lasting 10 months.

Exhibits throwing light on the megalithic age and the Indus Valley Civilization are among the precious collections at the museum.

The State government has spent Rs.76 lakh for the beautification of the building and the interiors. A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, who announced the reopening of the museum, told The Hindu that work, estimated to cost Rs.3 crore, was on the cards to make the museum a centre of attraction in the district.

A separate project had also been submitted to the State government to sanction funds for the beautification of the surroundings of the museum and roads, he said.

‘War heroes'

The 34-year-old museum, which functions in a building built by the British, provides an opportunity to visitors to view important historical artefacts from 1000 BC to 200 AD. B. Balamohan, Documentation Officer of the Archaeological Department, said an exclusive collection of Panchaloha idols and stone statues described as ‘War heroes' were the main attraction of the museum.

It also has an exquisite collection of ancient pottery, toys, stone and other metal sculptures. Various war weapons used by British soldiers and the official caps of British and French soldiers too have been displayed.

Officials with the Archaeological Department said the museum would be an attraction for researchers in iconography, the branch of history that deals with scientific identification and interpretation of the content of archaic images. With the completion of the proposed work, the museum is expected to draw more such visitors, they said.

“The Archaeology Department is now planning to introduce scientific display facilities at the centre for giving better exposure to the exhibits. Special brochures will also be designed for helping the visitors,” K.S. Jeevamol, curator of the museum, said. She said native exhibits such as burial urns and umbrella stones would get more exposure with the introduction of scientific display facilities.

The word Backwaters no longer evokes images of serene lagoons and sleepy houseboats. What comes to mind instead is a throng of humanity battling it out to emerge supreme. Backwaters is the Annual B-School Meet of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK). ). The 2010 edition was a roaring success with more than 3000 students from across 70 premier B-Schools of India participating in events spanning all management verticals. The star attractions this year include White Knight, Avatar, Labyrinth and Bizzathalon among other events.

In addition to the flagship events, the business simulation games, case studies, strategy events, etc. across the 6 verticals (Finance, Marketing, Systems, Strategy, Operations & Human Resources) give an opportunity to students from the best B-schools to apply their classroom concepts to the real world. The online quizzes and puzzles see participation from thousands of students and working professionals across the world.

Backwaters has grown over the past years & now resounds as a familiar name across B-schools as well as the industry. This year Backwaters will throw down the gauntlet to the next-gen MBAs with newer and smarter events. The speaker series will see brilliant minds from India Inc. enlightening the IIMK fraternity with their insights on contemporary issues. Keeping up with our legacy we aim to make Backwaters v2.10 a class apart.

The temporary centre is being set up to provide comprehensive information to visitors on the rare species of plants and herbs under conservation.

The department plans to build a bamboo house in the project area and use it as the official interpretation centre till the opening of a permanent structure.

The services of trained Vana Samrakshana Samithi members and forest staff will be utilised for the functioning of the centre and conducting awareness sessions for the visitors.

Tenders

Efforts are on to float tenders on November 30 for the construction of the permanent interpretation centre. The department hopes that the proposed building will be ready within two years.

Divisional Forest Officer Joseph Thomas said the interpretation centre would play a vital role in enlightening visitors through seminars and presentations on the rich bio-diversity of the region. The services offered by the centre would be useful to students and researchers interested in conducting in-depth studies on rare plants, he said.

At present, nearly 2,300 species of plants, the majority of them belonging to the Rare, Endemic and Threatened (RET) category, are conserved at the park. ‘Somalata' ( Sarcostemma acidum), a medicinal plant that grows in the high altitudes of the Himalayas, is one such species.

Official figures show that nearly 150 species of herbal plants, 23 species of bamboo saplings and 20 species of orchids grow under the ‘Vanaparvam' initiative. The interpretation centre will enable the visitors to learn about the importance of these plants and their medicinal value through focussed sessions and reference material.

Along with the conservation initiatives, the department also plans to bring out a comprehensive register listing the biological treasures at the park.

Mr. Thomas said the register, prepared with the assistance of the Zoological Survey of India and researchers from the Malabar Botanical Garden, the Swaminathan Foundation and the Malabar Natural History Society, would be ready in two months.

Funds

For developing the 111.4-hectare park into a tourist destination, the Ministry of Forest has sanctioned Rs.96 lakh, of which Rs.40 lakh will be spent for completing the first phase.

A butterfly park will be the main attraction of the project on completion.

Kozhikode: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Lakshadweep Development Corporation (LDC) and the State Port Department was signed on Monday for constructing a 200-metre dedicated berth for the Lakshadweep Islands at the Beypore port here.

The MoU for constructing the Rs.20-crore dedicated wharf, which is part of a comprehensive development project for the Beypore port, was signed by Jacob Thomas, Director of Ports, and Lakshadweep Development Commissioner N.Vasantha Kumar in the presence of Minister of Ports V.Surendran Pillai at a function presided over by Industry Minister Elamaram Karim.

The project, Mr. Pillai said, was expected to ease the travelling woes of passengers from Lakshadweep to the mainland, besides a way out for the lack of facilities at the Beypore port for cargo ships to the islands.

Inaugurating the function, Mr. Pillai, who stated that the dedicated berth was a longstanding demand of the people of Lakshadweep, said the development of any port would act as a catalyst for the development of the whole region.

“It not only brings huge revenue and economic profit to the district but also helps to ease the traffic on roads,” he said.

Maintaining that the State government was going ahead with different projects to develop smaller ports, he said a global tender for the Rs.728-crore development project for the Ponnani port had already been floated.

He said the Beypore port was to be developed on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model at an estimated cost of Rs.163 crore. The master plan envisaged to construct an additional 400-metre wharf to the existing two wharves.

The depth of the port, which is four metres now in the approach channel and alongside the wharves, would be developed in stages. “We are planning to increase the depth to 12 metres,” said the Port Minister.

Once completed, ships with 20,000 Dead Weight Tonnes (DWT) could dock at the port, said the Minister, who added that a global tender for the project would be floated in December.

Mr. Karim said the Beypore port, the second biggest in Kerala, would have ten times more cargo movement once the work of the dedicated wharf was completed. “It will be a milestone in the development of the port,” he said. The port at present handled around 10,000 passengers and 1.60 lakh tonnes of cargo annually.

Kozhikode: A unique retirement home for elephants in Kottor village in Kerala's Kozhikode District takes care of sick, old and injured pachyderms under the supervision of a team of specialized doctors.

The Kappukadu Elephant Rehabilitation Centre at the Agasthyavanam Biological Park was inaugurated last year with a campus of 10 acres surrounded by forestland.

The centre has only one aged elephant, named Renji, who is estimated to be 76 years in age. Renji was retired from service with the Kerala Forest Department at 65, and was the first inmate of this retirement home.

Kozhikode: Minister for Coir G. Sudhakaran will inaugurate a de-fibering mill set up by Kerala State Co-operative Coir Marketing Federation Ltd (Coirfed) at Mampatta in the district on Saturday. The rising price and shortage of fibre was the main challenge faced by coir sector, Coirfed vice-president S. Bahuleyan said at a press meet here.

A solution to this could be found if at least half of the coconut husk produced in the State was converted into fibre, Mr. Bahuleyan said. The new mill is one among the four major de-fibering units to be set up in the northern district of the State by Coirfed. The mill would employ at least 15 women permanently, adding that it would procure husk from farmers. “Farmers will get Rs.350 for 1,000 husks,” he said.

JEDDAH: Jamia Markaz will organize an international Islamic conference in the southern Indian city of Calicut in January with dignitaries from the Arab and Islamic world attending.

The conference, commemorating the 33rd anniversary of Jamia Markaz Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya, will be held from Jan. 7-9, its General Secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar told a press conference in Jeddah.

The conference will also mark the graduation of the 15th batch of students from the Faculty of Shariah at Jamia Markaz, he added. Aboobacker was in the Kingdom to perform Haj. He said Jamia Markaz, a prestigious charitable institution for religious education in India, aims to build more institutions to bolster technological development and progress in the Muslim community.

The institution is also playing a key role in the renaissance of the Muslim community in India, he said. One of the main goals of the institution is to protect orphans and the needy by providing them facilities for education. There are more than 40 institutions under the Markaz. The anniversary and the international conference come at a time when the institution is planning to launch its Ayurveda and Unani Medical College project, Markaz Knowledge City and Markaz Mall, he added.
He said some projects to create permanent source of income for the Markaz and its Shariah college are in the planning stages.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the institution is also planning to organize a mass wedding ceremony for the poor, a talent meet, an international scholars' conference and a Fiqh seminar.

Aboobacker urged the Ummah to pray for the speedy recovery of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, who has undergone a successful surgery in the United States.

He said King Abdullah, who has been striving hard to ensure the welfare of Saudi citizens and expatriate residents in the country, has had a special relationship with India.

"In order to foster this relationship further, all of us must pray for the king's good health," he said.

Brother, had there been anything good about the airport, I would've given u company there. This time, when I passed through the airport, I found it sadly pathetic. The place is broken down. Last year I had taken some pics and was about to share them with Sanju, but I couldn't.

Central A/c vents broken, un claimed baggage thrown around, and piled up in one corner, liquids spilt on seats, etc. It was a sad sight. Fact is, no one is gonna do anything about it. The govt is least bothered, and I don't expect any improvement in the airport condition. Last week, there was an article in Manorama on transportation project statuses in Malabar. The govt is yet to acquire 137 acres for the AAI to build another terminal capable of accomodating 12 aircraft. Due to lack of space, not many airlines are able to call on Calicut, and the ones that do, the rates are pretty steep. I do not remember the exact numbers, but while a Cochin Mumbai ticket costs around Rs 1800, a Calicut Mumbai ticket costs more than Rs 3000! How will Calicut be competitive in this scenario? To me, the only way to get it up the development curve will be to privatise it.

Deviated a bit....can't help it.....

The war ship design centre looks really really impressive

India's first warship design centre to reduce dependency
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 5 (IANS) With the inauguration of the country's first warship design centre at Challiyar in Kerala's Kozhikode district in 18 months, 75 percent of the Indian Navy's vessels would be made in the country itself - reducing the dependency on other nations, an official said.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony has been for long speaking of indigenising military hardware and this is one step towards that.

'In this centre, the design for warships will be drawn up and a prototype will be made. Once this is approved, the manufacture of ships can be taken up by the shipyards,' Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) managing director Alkesh Kumar Sharma told IANS.

'At the moment, the ships of the Indian Navy are only around 25 percent indigenised. Through this new design centre, that would go up to as high as 75 percent,' he added.

The foundation stone for the design centre will be laid next month, the official said.

The Rs.600 crore (around $133 million) project will be set up under the defence ministry with the full support of three major ports in the country. The Kerala industries department will play the role of the local facilitator.

Sharma said the state's share would be limited to the extent of the 41 acres of land that has been provided.

'The major participating companies in this mega project include Mazagon Dock Ltd and the Goa Shipyard. They will have a share in the equity, with the central government also chipping in,' he said.

Due to Antony's efforts, the project has come to Kerala, which of late has seen a string of central projects setting up shop in the state.

Kerala Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said the state government has fulfilled the role assigned to it.

'The land for the project has been handed over and we have done what we were supposed to do,' said Kareem, who is happy as the project is to come up in his home district.

Another highlight of the project is that a training centre also is planned to be set up to enable professionals to be groomed in all aspects of warship building.

'More than the direct jobs, this industry provides for a wide range of ancillary industries to come up and it is here that the trained manpower will be able to find a good number of jobs,' Sharma said.

Once the project starts business, the Beypore Port which is near the site is expected to see more activity.

I think that is not any kind of byepass! but just a road. And Kunduparamba- Puthiyangadi road is an existing road, I think by extention of the road u meant it to Eranhikkal , no idea about it till date.

Kozhikode: A new alignment is being drawn up for widening the road from Pushpa Junction to Mankav bypass to minimise inconvenience to residents on its either side. The work is being taken up under the City Road Improvement Project (CRIP).

District Collector P.B. Salim, who visited the site, said that under the existing plan five houses would be affected. These families would have to hand over some land for straightening curves in the road. The new alignment would be one that would minimise such problems and was expected to be finalised within three months.

Delhi-based Consultants Engineering Service has been assigned the job of designing the new alignment.

An action committee formed by local people had demanded widening of the road without causing problem to the residents.

K. Balakrishnan, deputy collector for land acquisition , and P.K. Soman, CRIP city co-ordinator, were with the District Collector when he visited the site on Tuesday.

Not heard about it for a long time, i am really sad that people protested against the Defense project in Beypore!

Lets hope it works out in any case. In one way, this being a common issue, I think every project has to be envisaged keeping mass residential relocation in mind, rather than going all out proposing game changing projects, and their commercial benefits. One element of the project plan always has to be this. Else, we will continue to face these kind of consequences. Can someone get authorities to view our discussion forums?

Facility set up at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital
Sports medicine complex built at a cost of Rs.2.5 crore

Renovated building of IMCH to be opened

Kozhikode: The renovated building of the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH) and a new sports medicine complex at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital will be thrown open to the public on December 18. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy will inaugurate the facilities.

At a press conference here on Thursday, Medical College Principal C. Ravindran said Rs.11 crore from the National Rural Health Mission was utilised to complete the work on the IMCH building and a silver jubilee block. The work was undertaken as part of winning the centre of excellence status by the hospital.

Dr. Ravindran said the new sports medicine complex, set up at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore, would be the first of its kind in south India with all modern facilities for treatment for sportspersons. It would offer health restoration facilities for patients with support of modern equipment.

Dr. Ravindran said the college had submitted a proposal to the State government to sanction an additional fund of Rs.3 crore for introducing more services to the centre. Fresh posts would be created for ensuring full-fledged functioning of the centre, he said.

Along with the inauguration of the new amenities, a get-together of cancer patients below 18 years of age will be organised on the day. According to medical college authorities, 275 children are undergoing cancer treatment under a special project titled ‘Talolam'.

The government, through its Social Security Mission schemes, has spent Rs.21 lakh for bearing the treatment expenses of these children under the project, which was formally launched in the beginning of this year.
