Satheesh & India101!!! sakrishna December 17th, 2009, 06:49 PM Kozhikode Samoothiri of 21st century - Sanju chettan is back:cheers: rahulclt December 18th, 2009, 05:12 AM The first hospital project coming up in Vadagara region The flagship hospital from the group at Kozhikode Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), run by Dubai-based Dr Moopen's Group, has chalked out ambitious plans to build ten more hospitals in the Malabar region. The regions which have been finalised so far for the hospital projects are in the districts of Palakkad, Kannur, Kozhikode and Mallapuram district. So far, it has chosen Vadagara (which is a small town in Kozhikode) and Neelampur in Mallapuram district. As of now, the group has two hospitals in Kerala— 600-bed MIMS Hospital at Kozhikode and a 150-bed MIMS at Kottakkal in Mallapuram district. All these ten new hospitals would be secondary care general hospitals of around 100 beds. "We are open to green field and acquisitions for these projects," says Dr Abdulla Cheryakkat, Managing Director, MIMS. The first hospital project is likely to come up in Vadagara region, around 50 kilometeres from MIMS, Kozhikode. The group also started a dialysis centre in Vadagara called M A Moopen Memorial MIMS Dialysis Centre. Speaking about the new projects, Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman, Dr Moopen's Group, says, "The land has been identified for the first project and we are in the process of acquiring the land." This general hospital would focus on maternity, orthopaedics and endocrinology, with focus on trauma care. The construction of this project is likely to start by early 2010 and the project is slated to be commissioned by end of 2011. Each of the projects would cost around Rs 50 crore which is inclusive of cost of land, construction and equipment. The funding would be a mix of debt and equity. The Malabar region has been chosen for investment as it has a good base of NRI population and is bereft of good healthcare facility. The group is also planning to come up with a medical college in Wayanad district. Meanwhile, MIMS, Kozhikode is strengthening its various departments. "Our road map for the coming three years is to make MIMS, Kozhikode the best tertiary referral hospital in the state with the addition of more departments and more facilities," says Dr Abdulla. This include a cath lab with IVUS and FFR, which is an advanced version of cath lab with facilities for doing more advanced procedures, which no other hospital in the state has all the facilities in a single equipment. "Besides, we have also introduced endo ultrasound, capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscope etc in gastro-entrology department, ESWL and laser equipment in urology department and 64 slice CT and an advanced DSA machine with facilities for doing advanced conventional and neuro radiological studies, radio frequency ablation for oncology procedures, CR systems and PACS," says Dr Abdulla. It is also starting a high-end comprehensive center for oncology in association with Health Care Global. It is also inaugurating an infertility center in association with CRAFT of Kodugalur. http://www.expresshealthcaremgmt.com/200912/market02.shtml rahulclt December 18th, 2009, 05:17 AM ..................Plama Developers are thorough professionals and maintain quality in each building works. The project is being implemented on a public-private partnership between the Kozhikode Corporation and the Bangalore-based Aramana Developers. In the first phase of the project, 139 families living below the poverty line will be given apartments. The Corporation will provide Rs.4 crore of the Rs.5.5 crore that the construction is estimated to cost, with the builder contributing the rest. The construction will include a community hall, playground and by-lanes besides drainage facilities. Rs.10 lakh annually The apartments would be handed over to slum residents in 18-24 months and the markets and commercial complex would be transferred to the Corporation after 35 years. During these 35 years, the builders will pay the Corporation Rs.10 lakh annually. A hike in this sum would be made every three years, based on prevailing market rates. The second phase of the project aims at renovating the Palayam Market. The area faces frequent traffic congestion and overcrowding. The Wholesale and Retail Vegetable Market and Fruit Market proposed at Kalluthankadavu will have all amenities, including refrigeration facilities. Majority of the fruits and vegetables consumed by the city comes from other States and facilities for their long-term storage are not available now. The market will come up on a 2,500-sq.m. area and will ensure rehabilitation of all traders currently operating out of Palayam Market. The third component of the project is the Rs.50-crore multi-level commercial complex. The four lakh-sq.ft. complex will have a parking lot to accommodate 400 vehicles, drainage facility and a sewage treatment plant. ICICI-Kinfra has prepared the project for the Kozhikode Corporation. Bhaskaran has said that the State government is planning to revive the Sweet Meat (S.M.) Street Heritage Project in the city. Relying to a question at a meeting of the City Corporation Council here on Wednesday, Mr. Bhaskaran said the Tourism Department had proposed reviving the decade-old project. Allocation A sum of Rs.4.5 crore would be allocated for the project. However, the government was yet to give administration sanction, he said. Earlier, Congress leader P.K. Mamukoya wanted the Mayor to clarify what had become of the project conceived almost a decade ago. Hundreds of people visit the commercial street daily and lakhs during festivals, including Vishu, Onam, Ramzan and Christmas, he said. Meeting held Mr. Bhaskaran said Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had called a meeting of traders at the Collectorate recently and decided to effect changes in the project. An estimate for the project would soon be prepared. The civic body was also keen on implementing the project from the S.K. Pottekkat statue to the Railway Station Road, he said. A few years ago, the Tourism Department had envisaged a Rs.1-crore project to make the centuries-old street into a heritage artery with decorated arches at its entrance, heritage lights along the pathway and a new drainage system. The draft of the proposal was also displayed at the Corporation office. Traders’ objection However, the traders objected to the project even after the district administration held several rounds of discussions. Then, the government decided to divert the amount to other tourism projects in the district. The Corporation intervened so that the funds did not lapse. The government now saw a glimmer of hope in the new project, Mr. Bhaskaran said. The heritage project was mainly aimed at beautification of the street. Benefits The drainage system would be drastically improved, electricity and telephone cables placed underground, and walkways constructed. Merchants could use attractive name boards for shops. The existing traffic and other facilities would not be stopped following the implementation of the project. Source: The Hindu skumarvclt December 24th, 2009, 07:25 PM http://i47.tinypic.com/2wd3jvk.png K@PP!R!S December 25th, 2009, 07:22 AM  Yesterday's mathrubhimu nagaram reports that 3 more 'janasevana kendra' will be opened soon within the city limits. At present, the Coast Guard station in Beypore is on four acres with limited facilities. Moreover, the area does not meet the requirement for future developments. The Coast Guard needs more land to improve infrastructure facilities, including setting up a training academy, quarters for families, helipad, workshop, equipment building unit and solid waste management cell. Station commanding officer G.K.P. Sreekumar told The Hindu on Sunday that he had already held talks with District Collector P.B. Salim in this regard. The Coast Guard has prepared a project for expansion plans on an area that includes four acres leading to the waterfront. One of the major components is the establishment of a training academy for the personnel. At present, they are given basic training at the Naval Academy at Ezhimala and at the Coast Guard Training Academy in Kochi. The duties of the personnel of the Coast Guard and Navy are different. The Coast Guard personnel need to be imparted training in exclusive subjects such as rescue, patrolling, salvaging and pollution control, Mr. Sreekumar said. He said the absence of a special ship landing centre at the existing Beypore station has affected the operations of the Coast Guard. Recently the station was provided with a high-speed Interceptor boat. But lack of facilities at the wharf hampered the search and rescue operation in the coastal area. Currently, there are 50 personnel and their families accommodated at various places in the city. Two additional shifts will be incorporated soon at the station, taking the total number of personnel to 150. Earlier, the Coast Guard had purchased one acre of land at the Jawahar Nagar to build apartments for families. However, the land would be inadequate, he said. Simultaneously, the Union Ministry of Defence has initiated the process of acquiring waterfront land at Chaliyam here for setting up either a Naval Dock Yard or a Coast Guard Training Centre. Experts from the Ministry of Defence are expected to visit the site. Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has expressed to Defence Minister A.K. Antony the State government’s willingness to hand over 46 acres of land at Chaliyam that had been taken over from a petroleum company. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will perform the symbolic switch-on of the new factory based at Vellayil, during a public function at Mananchira Square on Friday at 4 p.m. which will be presided over by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim. Housing Minister Benoy Viswom will conduct the first sale of the Kerala Soaps product. In the first phase, the soap factory, which can manufacture 6,000 metric tonnes of soap annually, will re-introduce the company’s old brands like ‘Kerala Sandal,’ ‘Vep’ and ‘Thrill.’ ‘Wash Well’, the old washing soap, will be re-launched in the second phase. Speaking to presspersons, A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, who is the chairman of the Reception Committee, said the reopening of Kerala Soaps, originally founded in 1914, was a fulfilment of the promise made by the LDF during the last Assembly elections. The Kozhikode-I MLA said the failure of the earlier company was not a reflection of its product quality. He blamed flawed policies and inept management for the downfall of what was once a popular line of products. Mr. Pradeep Kumar said the January 1 event would also be a celebration of the successful protest by all trade unions to prevent the liquidation of Kerala Soaps and Oils assets that included 2.5 acres at Vellayil, six acres at West Hill and three acres at Gandhi Road, all prime real estate property. Mr. Pradeep Kumar said the factory work and the procurement of machinery was completed in four months. He said the public sector can perform under time constraints. Marketing Managing Director of KSIE, M.D. Josemon said a total investment of Rs.7.5 crore had gone into the revival of the soap unit. The company would employ 143 persons and special emphasis would be laid on marketing the products. Five sales executives would be appointed in each district of the State. Mr. Josemon said the soaps would be made available at Supplyco outlets besides KTDC hotels. Government employees would also be motivated to use the product, he said. A music concert featuring top Malayalam playback singers would be held following the re-opening event at Mananchira Square. Source: The Hindu rahul sadu December 31st, 2009, 09:16 AM Sanju bhai where are you these days???? :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: rahul sadu December 31st, 2009, 12:50 PM Why everybody is missing form the forum all of a sudden??? :ohno::ohno::ohno::ohno::ohno: hsnse December 31st, 2009, 05:06 PM Wishing u all a happy new year 2010 ! rahulclt December 31st, 2009, 05:38 PM Happy New Year to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sanjupalayat January 1st, 2010, 11:42 AM HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!! But what will happen if elders fly kites, that too for a competition. The idea that was not so familiar for Keralites and especially for Malabar natives is expected to get a boost among the young and the aged soon as the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is all set to host the India-International Kite Festival at Kappad beach in the third week of January. Those who have been reluctant to fly kites thinking it a childish game will enjoy the surprise as participants from seven foreign countries and various states of India will enthusiastically fly their kites to adorn the historical monuments of Kappad on January 16, 17 and 18. Fifty representatives will compete with the wind at Kappad to come out victorious in the prestigious festival. Giant and technically supported kites will give more reasons for enjoyment to the natives. According to P Viswan, MLA, the president of Kappad Destination Management Council (KDMC), the organisers expect more than 1.5 lakh tourists to reach the historical land to enjoy the sport. Snake like flexible kites, Giant kites with more than 20 feet length and kites those demonstrate the traditional, cultural and artistic glory of Kerala, the traditional kite designs from foreign countries and of course the casual kites of children will all conquer the skies during the three day kite festival. The Kites based on the themes of `Cultural Heritage of the Country’, `Unity in Diversity’ and `Technology’ will be in the competitions of the fest. The chairman of DTPC, B Anand said global attention will be attracted towards Kappad with the conduct of this festival. For this, the company plans to raise Rs 200 crore in the next few months through a mix of debt and equity. “We are looking to raise Rs 100 crore through banks and Rs 100 crore through our foreign investor in the next few months. We have already received Rs 25 crore from the UK-based investor,” said P M A Razak, chairman of Plama Developers. The investor holds a 26 per cent stake in the company while the promoter holds the rest. Plama has developed 2.2 million sq ft so far and is planning to develop 6 million sq ft in the next 24 months. The company is looking to set up three residential projects in Bangalore, two in Kerala, one in Chennai and the rest in Mangalore. It is also setting up a 1.5 million sq ft mall in Mangalore and an 800,000 sq ft mall in Kozhikode. The company has eight running projects at present. It has launched Plama Heights, a residential project with 163 apartments on Hennur road in Bangalore. The two-three bedroom apartments will be available in two sizes — 1,100 sq ft and 1,650 sq ft priced around Rs 40-50 lakh. Razak said the company was planning the expansion on the back of optimisim in the market. “The price of flats is up by 15 per cent as compared to six months before. We are not too bothered about input costs as they have a tendency to fluctuate. We are seeing positive response from buyers for our first project in Bangalore where nearly 30-40 per cent has already been booked,” he said. Although the company has one budget housing project in Mangalore, it does not see the sector as a focus in the coming months. “The most important feature for a successful project is the location. While many are offering houses around the 350 sq ft space mark, it is yet to be seen if people are willing to buy homes that are so far away from the city,” said Razak. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Kozhikode district panchayat president K.P. Kunhahamedkutty said Minister for Forest Benoy Viswom will be chief guest. K.K. Lathika, MLA, will preside over the function. Elected representatives and officials from three-tier local bodies in the district will take part in the programme. The EMS scheme is being implemented through the local bodies during 2009-10 and 2010-2011. The project is aimed at providing land and financial assistance to landless people to construct houses. Those owning land will be given housing assistance. Beneficiaries in the general category will get assistance of Rs.75,000 each; Scheduled Caste, Rs.1 lakh and Scheduled Tribe, Rs.1.25 lakh; physically and mentally challenged persons, Rs.1.25 lakh and Ashraya families, Rs.1.25 lakh. Mr. Kunhahamedkutty said 27,107 families were homeless and 5,450 did not own land in the 78 grama panchayats in the district. There were 2,242 families who did not own a house and 2,041 landless in Kozhikode Corporation and Vadakara and Koyilandy municipalities. Electrification The beneficiaries will also receive financial assistance for electrification of houses; construction of toilets and bathrooms; water supply connections from the Kerala Water Authority; digging of wells; rainwater harvesting; and installation of smokeless chimneys. Mr. Kunhahamedkutty said a district-level Programme Management Committee, including the District Planning Committee chairman and the District Collector, would coordinate the activities and provide technical help to the scheme. A preliminary meeting of this committee was held at Town Hall on December 24. Technical panel A technical committee headed by the District Collector has been constituted to prevent traders and distributors of construction materials from exploiting the beneficiaries during the implementation of the scheme. A Technical Resource Team had also been constituted at the grama panchayats, municipalities and Corporation to help the beneficiaries, he said. He said the local bodies had been given permission to take loans, if required, for implementing the scheme. The government had provided the amount for the purpose in the Plan Fund. Officials said local bodies could take a 10-year loan from cooperative or commercial banks to implement the project in the city. The civic body can also obtain 15 per cent of the resources from the annual development funds for the purpose. He said that 100 beneficiaries from Kuttiyadi, Kavilumpara, Kayakkodi, Naripetta, Kunnumal, Maruthongara, Nadapuram and Velam gramapanchayats would be given the first instalment of the amount during the inaugural session. Source: The Hindu K@PP!R!S January 17th, 2010, 08:45 AM A city in development mode cannot afford to ignore its infrastructure. Studies show that an average one per cent improvement in infrastructure is associated with a one per cent increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Somehow Kozhikode missed the bus, while other regions in State benefited hugely from major projects. Now, the State government is making amends by developing infrastructure in the city and suburbs through some quasi-agencies. Infrastructures Kerala Limited (InKEL) is a main stakeholder in various projects in north Kerala, two of which are the Malabar Convention Centre cum Commercial Complex at Vellayil and an International Convention Centre and Multi-Service Park at Ramanattukara. G.C. Gopala Pillai, managing director, InKEL, says that the complex at Vellayil will address the problem of inadequate facilities for conducting seminars and meetings. This will be modelled on the India Habitat Centre. InKEL will have 74 per cent stake in the venture while the remaining will be given to a public sector undertaking. “The project has been envisaged as a cultural, educational and commercial hub in the city,” he says. The total built-up space of the centre will be 4,50,000 sq.ft. The 75,000-sq.ft. ground floor will have a conference hall with a capacity to seat 2,500 persons and five mini conference halls for corporate meetings. The first floor, again 75,000 sq.ft., will be utilised for exhibition of products from Malabar, apart from housing an art gallery, traditional art and craft bazaar. The second floor will have around 20 offices or business centres, each at 3,000 sq.ft. A multi-purpose hall has also been envisaged. The third and fourth floors will provide accommodation for delegates. A healthcare centre, library and reading room will be the other features here. For car parking, 75,000 sq.ft. will be set aside. Mr. Pillai says that the international convention centre project at Ramanattukara, in the outskirts of the city, has been conceived to tap the demand for Meetings Incentives Convention Exhibitions (MICE) tourism segment in the national and international levels. It will thus act as an engine of economic growth in the region. The convention centre can also be used to host weddings, trade fairs and exhibitions. Around 80 acres of land has been made available for the purpose. It will be a joint venture with the State government having 26 per cent stake and InKEL, 74 per cent. The international centre will be in 30 acres and the multi-service park, in 50 acres. The components of the centre are a conference hall to seat 3,000; a 20,000 sq.ft. auditoria and exhibition hall; divisible halls to seat 20 to 500 persons; 100 rooms of five-star standard; 200 rooms of serviced apartments and 20 cottages each having 750 sq.ft. These will have health clubs with ayurvedic spa and water sports facilities. The centre will have a business centres with facilities such as wi-fi connectivity and money exchange counters, ATMs, retail space, multiplexes and recreation amenities. The total built-up area is 2,15,000 sq.ft. The 5,00,000 sq.ft. multi-service park will focus on emerging areas of research, information technology and information technology enabled services, health care sector, education, professional services such as engineering, legal, architectural, travel and tourism, hospitality services and related social infrastructure. Mr. Pillai says that economy’s prospects will depend on the extent of financial flows to the infrastructure sector. “Also, corruption in the sector must be reduced and Infrastructure needs of the poor must be met,” he adds. K@PP!R!S January 24th, 2010, 07:48 AM An IT Corridor in the making in Kozhikode city An information technology (IT) corridor is finally taking shape on the Malaparamba-Ramanattukara Bypass at the south-eastern tip of Kozhikode city, courtesy the two cyber parks coming up at Nellikode. An advanced technology park of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) is also coming up at Ramanattukara, on the outskirts of the city, also on the bypass stretch. Massive development activities have already been initiated both in private and government sectors in the wake of the multi-crore IT proposals. At least 25,000 IT professionals and a large number of others in the IT-enabled-services (ITES) sector are expected to be employed in the region in the next decade. Of the two cyber parks, one is being developed by the Vadakara-based Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) on 10 hectares of land. The Union Ministry of Commerce has granted the special economic zone (SEZ) status for this cyber park. The UL CyberPark is a Rs.600-crore investment project that is expected to provide employment to 15,000 people, says Ramesh Paleri, president of the society. The government has initiated the process of acquiring 17 hectares of land for its cyber park near Thondayad. The total investment will be Rs.300-350 crore in the next three years. “Once completed, the government cyber park and the UL cyber park combined will provide direct employment to 25,000 IT professionals. This means the city will have to accommodate 25,000 middle class people. Moreover, the city will have people with disposable incomes each of Rs.20,000 a month. Much of that will be spent in and around Kozhikode. That is a Rs.600-crore leisure industry to serve,” says Binu A. Pazhoor, Chief Executive Officer, government cyber park. He says the possibilities are endless; so are the investment opportunities. Every direct employment in IT means four indirect employments in other sectors. Already several builders have evinced interests in housing and villa projects in the region. An NRI has suggested a convention centre and a Chennai-based property developer a water-theme park. The IT sector will complement the service industry. The government cyber park will also obtain the SEZ status. Just as the trend in other cities, Kozhikode’s IT space will also be a little away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Malaparamba-Thondayad-Ramanattukkara Bypass will be a rural haven for IT professionals. But the city will then need more shopping malls, hospital beds, primary schools, play schools, high schools, finishing schools, multi-cuisine restaurants, traditional eating places, fast-food joints, coffee shops, ice cream parlours and pubs, resorts, bowling alleys, snooker pools, cyber cafes, gaming centres, health clubs, family recreation avenues and theme parks. Thus, the roads will have more trucks, taxis, autos and air-conditioned and super-luxury buses. “We will need more school teachers, IT trainers, household help, cleaners, security personnel, Kudumbasree volunteers, chauffeurs, gardeners, plumbers,” Mr. Pazhoor says. The city will also get the advantage of good highways connecting airports and major cities such as Bangalore, Kochi and Coimbatore. “A metro rail connecting major locations such as Head Post Office, Kallai, West Hill, Mankavu, Beach, Karaparamba, Palazhi and Medical College will be proposed,” he says. K.N. Srikumar, spokesman of Kinfra, says that Ramanattukara town and adjoining areas will undergo a sea change with the completion of the advanced technology park. A sum of Rs.1 crore has already been allocated for acquiring land for the project. The total investment is Rs.20 crore. The project will come up on 32 hectares of land. Initially, it was decided to acquire 80 hectares. The new plan has been prepared after avoiding the houses and paddy fields, he says. The park will get a boost with the Centre announcing the setting up of the National Knowledge Network. This will promote knowledge sharing, resources and collaborative research among scientists, researchers and students from diverse spheres of activity. K@PP!R!S January 24th, 2010, 07:50 AM http://i49.tinypic.com/28pb80.jpg Cool shot Sanjubhai...!!! Aslesh February 6th, 2010, 07:20 PM Eleventh five year plan is during 2007-2012. What is the relevance of 2009-2013? Is there some thing else like a four year plan? Eleventh plan did said about setting up of eight new IITs in India but the locations were not specified then. Leave palakkad not even Kerala was mentioned there. Planning commission has suggested upto eight new IITs and they have already come up in different locations in the country. Still if any new IITs come up in India before 2012 then it will under the eleventh plan only. Eleventh plan is available in planning commission website. ( www.planningcommission.nic.in ) Nothing was mentioned about palakkad in the eleventh plan. There is no point in arguing over that. May be he is talking about some old news report where it may have been mentioned that a new IIT is proposed in palakkad under 11th plan. All the new IITs were proposed under 11th plan. I think we have already missed that chance. rahulclt February 6th, 2010, 07:38 PM Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:CY) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) announced a partnership to set up a new lab at Calicut based on the PSoC® programmable system-on-chip. The agreement was signed at NIT Calicut, by NIT Department Head, Professor P.C Subramaniam and Cypress Director of Engineering, Sunil Thamaran. The Lab was inaugurated by Institute Director Dr. G.R.C. Reddy in December. The new laboratory will expose the students to the PSoC platform, a flexible family of devices with programmable analog and digital blocks integrated with a microcontroller. With its unique architecture, PSoC provides an unrivaled learning platform for embedded design students. As part of the agreement, Cypress will provide hands-on training to the faculty and students of NIT, along with free hardware kits and software tools. NIT will provide the facilities for the laboratory. NIT will use PSoC as a tool to teach students about embedded system design through theory and lab experiments. It has already introduced the PSoC in its Electronics and Communication Engineering curriculum and lab sessions. PSoC will be taught as a part of an "Embedded System" course offered at the undergraduate level in the December-June term. "This agreement provides an opportunity for students to work in cutting edge technology,” said Prof. Subramaniam. “PSoC contains analog programmable parts, which are not available in usual programmable devices. Many sixth semester students have expressed their interest in doing their ‘mini project’ using PSoC. We hope the interest of these students will be sustained and that they will also opt to do their final year major project using PSoC. We expect this relationship will be mutually beneficial to both NIT and Cypress." "We are pleased to partner with NIT on this new PSoC lab,” said Sunil Thamaran. “These agreements are exactly what the Cypress University Alliance is about - partnering with leading universities and students to establish PSoC as the premier embedded design learning platform."
