An aboslutely classic building. Anyone who doesn't appreciate this building needs to go learn something about the history of highrise architecture, because this was a very important building in its day. I consider it the best translation of the Gothic style to the highrise form.

I love this skyscraper but i give it only 8/10 because the choose of the neo-gothic form was too conservative on the time of the concours.
Gropuis or Saarinen project was more "avant-garde" or maybe too much "avant-garde" for the Chicago tribune at this time. ;)

this building's definitely got an unrivaled style to it. the design sure makes the building look taller than it really is. wish they'd build it even taller though...

Hey, an interesting fact is that the Tribune Tower contains many famous stones built into its facade, including a moon rock, rock fragments from the Alamo, the Colosseum, The Great Wall of China, the Parthenon, Taj Mahal, Bunker Hill, Mark Twain's "Injun Joe Cave", Abraham Lincoln’s Tomb, the Berlin Wall, the Arc de Triomphe, Forbidden City, White House, Great Pyramid of Cheops, Petrified Forest, Badlands, St. Peter's, Notre-Dame, Stonehenge (my favorite), Hagia Sophia, Antarctica, Omaha Beach, the Great Pryamids of Giza, Mammoth Cave and many more.
Its quite amazing to see and appreciate the scale of it all in person. It seems not too many people know about it. (at least from the people I've talked to)

I've seen this building up close. The pictures don't show the street level carvings. The work that went into this building is overwhelming.
The Chrysler building is also one of my favorites. I like the classics.

Everybody Loves Raymond (Hood)!
I am suprised no one has mentioned it but, one reason why this building is so good is that it had to beat stiff competition to win the design contest that the Chicago Tribune held in 1922 for the "world's most beautiful office building".
When I last visited the ArchiCenter (224 S. Michigan Avenue), the architecture gallery had an exhibit which showed images of all of the 263!? entries.
View of some of the peices taked from historic buildings around the world.
