View Full Version : Father Ted odlum833 November 10th, 2008, 05:24 AM Best ever Irish comedy? Would Spike Milligan agree? 937delta November 10th, 2008, 12:25 PM Not really a genuine Irish comedy - Hat Trick and Channel 4 I think are British. However it probably would be the funniest comedy show set in Ireland. odlum833 November 10th, 2008, 03:48 PM Of course Channel 4 made it and this is a British channel...but is Hat Trick a British production company? I dont know. All I know is it was written by Irish writers, set in Ireland, and prodominently Irish cast. I suppose it depends on your definition what makes it Irish or not. Anyway I do enjoy it. Definately the best comedy set in Ireland at any rate. VI0mphJaCzk  I love that epidsode:) 1878EFC November 20th, 2008, 02:21 PM Yes Hat Trick productions is from the UK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hat_Trick_Productions Jimmy Mulville is an Everton fan :P Loved Father Ted, shame he died. saoró... November 20th, 2008, 04:02 PM Local drama(ROI,UK, wherever) can be much better than the usual american stuff if there is some effort (and budget) in it. Spooks is great, Raw was excellent too. Its good to see the story take place in your city rather than just <generic american city with yellow taxis> WrightTurn November 20th, 2008, 05:58 PM American TV is absolute crap. Cannot understand how anyone watches it. The Sopranos, etc...blah blah blah. What bullshit. I loved Father Ted and it was tragic that the actor passed so young. It seemed like he was a nice bloke. NothingBetterToDo November 20th, 2008, 06:03 PM Father ted is obviously an Irish comedy - as mentioned, Irish writers, Irish Cast, set in Ireland. Just because the network and production company are British makes no difference. It's like saying Rolls Royce's aren't quintessentially "British" because the company is owned by ze Germans. Anyway, i think it's hilarious. Such a shame the guy died. It ended in it's prime - which in an way is good because it was never able to degrade (like so many other good comedies - e.g The Simpsons) future.architect November 20th, 2008, 08:34 PM I LOVE FATHER TED! odlum833 November 26th, 2008, 01:52 AM Father ted is obviously an Irish comedy - as mentioned, Irish writers, Irish Cast, set in Ireland. Would have been better just to end it. It's kind of like Fawlty Towers in a way - only a few episodes but great they were:cheers: Bachy Soletanche November 26th, 2008, 09:57 AM would it be petty to mention the set shots were all filmed in London? Probably, so I won't... My fav character:- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLNB93MiSCM Grr.. How come people come along and steal copyrighted material, and then don't let people embed said copyrighted material Grr... Fillet Tower November 26th, 2008, 03:37 PM would it be petty to mention the set shots were all filmed in London? Probably, so I won't... Everyone knows that it was filmed on Craggy Island anyway. odlum833 November 26th, 2008, 11:10 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT9xuXQjxMM Careful now! Gareth November 27th, 2008, 09:36 AM Father Ted was ace. The type of comedy was uniquely comic strip-esque in some ways. PB-1888 November 28th, 2008, 12:23 AM A complete classic. It captures the essence of Catholic Ireland perfectly, and was made during the transition in Ireland, when that actually what life was like to what it is now. paulmac35 November 28th, 2008, 12:24 AM i have them all on video. now need to get the dvd's! gothicform November 29th, 2008, 07:41 AM one of the best comedies ever... and yes, it's irish. it was after all a sitcom about a character who had been used in irish stand up comedy and featured on irish tv but only in short sketches. no one would actually commission the show in ireland so dermot morgan went to the uk and got money from channel 4. Scarecrow November 29th, 2008, 02:57 PM Also helped to make The Divine Comedy, thanks to Songs of Love and My Lovely Horse. Along with Chris Evans sponking all over Something for the Weekend, of course. Gareth December 1st, 2008, 11:20 AM ^^ My Lovely Horse was a great song, particularly the organ solo. A classic episode. |
