shyaman January 12th, 2010, 09:48 AM TOKYO TOWER
The Tokyo Tower is located in Shiba. Getting off the subway’s Daimon station, the tower is not at all visible.

shyaman January 12th, 2010, 09:51 AM Walking further towards the westerly direction, a very prominent gate greets visitors to Shiba Park.

Further on, the massive Daimon Gate marks the entrance to Zojo-ji Temple.

Shiba Park used to be the Tokugawa family’s graveyard. At its center is the Zojo-ji, the family temple of the Tokugawas. It was founded in 1393 and Ieyasu moved it here in 1598 to protect his new capital spiritually. The present day building dates from 1974.

shyaman January 12th, 2010, 09:56 AM Tokyo Tower seems to serve as sentry to the temple.

shyaman January 12th, 2010, 09:58 AM Behind the temple, is a cemetery or probably a memorial, to the unborn children. Eerie but worth seeing.

shyaman January 12th, 2010, 10:04 AM The Tokyo Tower was completed in 1958. At 333 meters (1,093 feet), it is the world’s tallest self-supporting steel tower, higher than the Eiffel Tower (320m), on which it is based.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128/shyaman_king/Asian%20Tour%202009%20-%20Tokyo%20Tower%20and%20Zojo-fi%20Temple/27-1215-09a.jpg
Despite being taller than Eiffel, it weighs much lighter at 4,000 tons compared to Eiffel’s 7,000 tons, hence the impression that Eiffel Tower looks more massive and bigger than Tokyo Tower.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128/shyaman_king/Asian%20Tour%202009%20-%20Tokyo%20Tower%20and%20Zojo-fi%20Temple/27-1215-09.jpg
Near the tower’s entrance are these wolves(?) on guard.

shyaman January 12th, 2010, 10:06 AM At night, the tower is on fire.

Tokyo Tower has two viewing decks, the main one at 150 meters and a higher one at 250 meters, with more spectacular view of the metropolis.

shyaman January 13th, 2010, 09:56 AM METROPOLITAN TOKYO… VIEWED FROM 250 METERS ABOVE GROUND
From Tokyo Tower’s observation deck at 250 meter high is a spectacular view of Tokyo’s metropolitan area. They say that on a clear day, Mount Fuji is visible. Unfortunately, it’s not on a show-off mood at the time of visit.

shyaman January 14th, 2010, 10:40 AM TOKYO RAIL NETWORK
The Tokyo metropolitan rail system is the most complex. Subway and above ground train lines is an intricate network that looking at a consolidated route map will give you a head ache at first instance.
The Shinjuku station is the world’s busiest train station with over 2 million people passing through each day. As well as being the major stop to both the JR and metropolitan subway systems, Shinjuku station is also the starting point for trains and buses into the suburbs.

Finding a particular line or exit during rush hour can be intimidating and exhausting for newcomers, especially with heavy baggage. Transferring from one line to another is also a long distance walk in a maze of hallways and corridors.

bitoy January 14th, 2010, 06:37 PM ^^ until now, para ko pa rin naamoy yung distinct smell of their different transit systems, mahirap i-explain, pero iba talaga.
Dito, ok na rin, wala na yung mga amoy ihi or anghit, pero pag gabi na, mabaho na yung mga bus or LRT. :D
shyaman January 14th, 2010, 08:59 PM Dito rin nababalahura ang train pag Friday and Saturday nights. Minsan may suka, spilled food or drinks tapos sakay mga maiingay na lasheng
Very efficient mga train sa Tokyo. Tapos nakapila talaga lahat bago pumasok kahit rush hour.

^^ Incredible how clean this whole platform and train looks. Here in D.C., the stations are clean, but not this polished clean. Not a single gum or graffiti in sight. Very nice. :okay:

Bidet control modes, such as this one pictured here, is common in Tokyo. There are temperature and pressure controls, and options as to which type of spray you want, the “straight to the point”, shower type or the one specially intended for feminine care. :D

That's exactly what it looks like inside Tokyo's 7-11 store. Ang daming Japanese food to go. Meron pa ngang nakalublob sa mainit na tubig na mga kung anu-ano, yung iba mukhang mga laman-loob. All you have to do is pick what you want and they will scoop it for you (or maybe you can scoop it yourself.) I did not try it though.

shyaman January 17th, 2010, 10:04 AM MOUNT FUJI & KAWAGUCHI-KO
No trip to Tokyo is complete without a side trip to the famous Japan icon, Mount Fuji. There are several viewing spots of the dormant volcano. But word of mouth says that the best place to view the mountain in its full glory is at Kawaguchi-ko. Mount Fuji is surrounded by five lakes, aptly called the Fuji Five Lakes. Kawaguchi-ko is located beside Lake kawaguchi, the most accessible and commercialized amongst the five lakes.
Kawaguchi-ko is about 2 hours by bus from Shinjuku. Along the way, Japanese landscape and small towns are must see sights.

shyaman January 17th, 2010, 10:06 AM And then, Mount Fuji shows its might.

With an overcast sky, this is the best shot I had of Mount Fuji, while still on the bus. The snow capped summit was hiding. At 3,776 meters, Mount Fuji (or Fuji-san) is Japan’s highest peak with a near perfect cone. It has been dormant since 1707.

For more adrenalin rush, there is the Fujikyu Highland, an amusement park with a number of roller coasters and Mount Fuji in the background to boot.

shyaman January 17th, 2010, 10:13 AM Kawaguchi-ko offers a hop-on/hop-off bus service to different lakeside attractions and viewing points. It’s called the retro bus, obviously due to how it looks like.

shyaman January 17th, 2010, 10:18 AM My first stop off the retro bus is the Kawaguchi-ko Natural Living Center at the end of the route. Except for the building’s unique design, there’s nothing special inside but some blueberry products and other native wellness food and body care essentials.

The center also boosts a very nice view of Mount Fuji. Unfortunately, at the time of visit the overcast sky worsens. The snow cap’s covered and only the lower half of the mountain is visible.

shyaman January 25th, 2010, 11:01 AM TIAN'AN MEN SQUARE
Tian'an Men Square is a vast open concrete expanse at the heart of modern Beijing. With Mao's Mausoleum at its focal point, and bordered by 1950s Communist style buildings and ancient gates from Beijing's now leveled city walls, the square is usually filled with visitors strolling about. The square has also traditionally served as a stage for popular demonstrations and is most indelibly associated with student protests of 1989.

mwg12a January 25th, 2010, 11:33 AM Wow, very nice airport. It kinda have the same set up as in bkk airport on the predeparture gates right? I am sure there are instances that this airport would have that "ghost town" feel in it for being under utilized IMO, they really just built this terminal mainly for the last World Olympic games.
A friend of mine who is a pinoy went to the Philippines through United Airlines, their lay/stop over was Beijing. They had to go through immigration there even if you are just in transit. I am not sure if it is because they had to get on a PAL flight to MNL since UA do not fly to the Philippines anymore for many years already.
shyaman January 25th, 2010, 11:38 AM ^^ You're exactly right. The terminal is massive that some areas are deserted. Biro mo habang naglalakad ako from the gate to immigration, ako lang mag-isa naglalakad. Naiiwan kasi ako dahil peksyur ng peksyur.
To be honest, I don't like the terminal. It's big alright but it looks dark inside. There's natural lighting from almost all sides and with minimal artificial lighting but they are diffused due to high ceilings and size of the terminal.

shyaman January 26th, 2010, 01:17 PM CHANG PUHE PARK
Chang Puhe Park is a linear park at Beijing's city center. It is adjacent to the Forbidden City but is oftentimes overlooked because of its high walls which apparently conceals it from the public eye. The park serves as an alternative walking route to and from Tian'an Men since it runs parallel to and slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the main road Dong Chang'an Jie.

shyaman January 28th, 2010, 09:49 AM FORBIDDEN CITY
Forming the very heart of Beijing, the Forbidden City, officially known as the Palace Museum (Gugong), is China's most magnificent architectural complex and was completed in 1420.
The huge palace is a compendium of imperial architecture and a lasting monument of dynastic China from which 24 emperors ruled for nearly 500 years. The symbolic center of the Chinese universe, the palace was the exclusive domain of the imperial court and dignitaries until the abdication in 1912. It was opened to the public in 1949.

Aba nabuhay ka kabayan!
Akala namin nabaon ka na sa snow :D.
Pag napunta ka doon make it a week para mapuntahan mo lahat.
3 nights lang kasi ako doon kaya naghahabol lagi and I can't stay long sa isang tourist attraction otherwise I can't go other sites as planned.

Salamat mi amigo.
Di kasi ako nakapasok sa loob ng pugad.
The stadium grounds was made into some sort of a winterland amusement park at my time of visit. Eh may entrance fee kaya di bale na lang. Di ko rin naman makita yung loob ng pugad in its natural sporting state.
Kaya malamang yung mga itlog sa loob pinag-aalis din nila para sa mga kiddie rides at baka mabasag :D

Amazing indeed.... hard to imagine the time and labor of each person who were part of the construction of that man made wonder. Lolo ng lolo at lolo pa nila at ka lolo-lolohan ng lolo ko siguro ang isa sa nagtrabaho diyan...

shyaman February 3rd, 2010, 11:58 AM AROUND THE BEIJING EGG
I walk around this magnificent structure nicknamed "The Egg" or officially called the National Grand Theater of China. The Egg is a large oval that stands on water, or should I say, surrounded by water. It has some 150,000 square meters of floor space with 6,000 seats.

Located adjacent to Tian'an Men Square, this ultra modern structure stands beside the Soviet-era Great Hall of the People.

A thin layer of ice coats the water surface. With spotless blue skies, this is the only photographic evidence that it was winter time. :D
