The Pleven resitential building looks expensive, I like it, also the sofia multi functional building. The zornica and smolyan are very ugly IMO.

Тhat "Panorama" Hotel in VT brings smile to my face ... Once upon a time there used to be only stairs leading from the main street opposite the Old Hali down to ul. Gurko ... and me and my friends used to use them as a public toilet when we were comming home late in the evening after some zapoi somewhere in the old town :lol: After that they made a bar there , and now a Hotel :lol:

it looks good though now ... no doubt.

I find the new designs of the business buildings very exaggerated, the round shapes and so on just don´t look good for a building. Some of the retail buildings are ok, Pleven seems to have pretty good architecture, I liked the Pleven business center and the resitental center with the brown.

Honestly.... I am impressed by the amount of good looking, and in my oppinion not exaggeratingly designed, projects.... I like the combination of wood and concrete, the mixture of meterials which some of the residential buildings and hotels show...

There are some very good ones like the Prestige business center in Plevel or the level center in Plovdiv, but for example the Karol Finance HQ, the building might look nice at first, but I think further, just imagine how it is for the people inside the floors with no windows, it is a pain to work in a building without windows, especially in winter. The Risk enginerring is exaggerated a lot.

That's really interesting.
Left wing of that building is a good example how a good residential building should look like IMO, the funny thing is that right wing- is how it shouldn't :D
I've always liked that combination of white and brick red on an apartment block.
Long sunny terraces , (they could have come with better fence though) nice clean shapes and cosy looks at the same time.
The other part is just like 90% of the new residential buildings here - some sort of big curvy house or something, ..with usually wrong colors and some detail that's totally out of place for such building - like a glassy facade sector, some thing sticking out form the top..and that kind of stuff, which are really kitschy and bad looking.

The bad thing is that this beautiful building is facing a commie... the one I live in... and there is just one narrow street to separate them :(

Commies actually can look better than most of the newly made residential buildings here, with the right refurbishing plan. That patchy isolation that is going on is awful, and it'll be harder for a building to be entirely renovated and energy saving when everybody's doing whatever he wants with it. But if/when a nice designer plan is made for a commieblock, when it's completely renovated it could look nice. I've seen a few in Sofia and I actually like 'em. In fact our commies are pretty regular (in sad condition tough) as a design. It's very rare to see a weird looking one , like those that most of the EE countries have.

I just LOVE these building. the photos make them incredible, but when i come to think of their surrounding, like blago84 points out, they lose their prestige. the 1 on nishava st is right across me, really good building, but across it is a 13 story 'u know what it looks like' surrounded by removable concrete garages ....

That's weird...yeah I know, it's kinda unique for the Balkans, especially that part of the Balkans,you'd probably not find it somewhere else. But that's not just not real, it's fake. Most of those modern "old-style" buildings are very very far away from traditional arhitecture, it's like some bad immitation. I mean...come on, when they paint them in some weird colors, put PVC window cases and especially when they install those air-conditioners, it looks kinda ridiculous. But OK, foreigners probably like those. But it's like comparing GMO fruits with err....real ones.

Yeah mutro-baroque looks awful and those Dutch-style buildings look as if some aliens built them but for the latter...it's globalisation. Besides, mutro-baroque is rare nowadays...it was trendy in the 90s, now not so much (excluding the fashionable bars and cafeteria exterior ehhh).

I am kinda disappointed. They are all cool buildings which I would like to live in, but all of them (except the one in Varna at the beginning) are kinda boring if you ask me. Nothing really so special. Btw perhaps the one in Varna looks so nice because it is the only professional photography and the rest are just S**T!

This building is in my neighbourhood "Ivan Vazov", and i have to say i definetely don't like this mix of modern and uncomely. The way it stays between the other two UGLY buildings is awful. The residential itself is so narrow i wonder how they found the required space for appartments, stairways and elevator maybe.

Yes of course it is, I can see that on the pic. What I mean is, it doesnt look exaggerated or too futuristic... For instance it fits in with the commie residential buildings in the background. Both are rectangular :lol:.

Don't get me wrong, I just want to say that sometimes very nice projects are being put into a setting where the just don't seem to fit. And in this case it seems to be, that it does fit... Sorry, I'm not an expert in architecture but do you know what I mean?

Yup I agree sometimes glassy and modern buildings really look out of place. The surrounding area is very important we've discussed it already several times here. But most of the cities here don't follow any general plans at all ..unfortunately.
