Upgrading of the Newton Park pool in PE is underway. It's the only true Olympic pool in PE and will be getting a roof and translucent facade. The upgrade is mainly focussed on 2010 - for use by players and tourists.

Pictures of progress a week ago and renders of the final product.

Yeah we do too currently. Dunno what they're gonna do next year though because this won't be finished

nice to see they enclosing it, will help to make it more of an all year round facility

st geoge's park also has one.
grey high school use to have one - but then it was converted to a 25m pool and a water polo pool - thanks to cheecky & co

No i think the Gelvandale Public Swimming Pool is Olympic size as well.

Mo, isn't the pool at Strand Pavilion sort of indoors and Olympic size? Or am I very ignorant about this? Sorry for talking Cape Town matters in PE thread, but I was just wondering....

still not better than Newton Park. The one at UWC is a giant tent

First cross truss (one across the pool itself) has just been installed. Will be getting pics this weekend.

Lukas are they gonna clean up around the place ie some landscaping? Also is it going to be enclosed or is it just a roof structure

An excellent project. Glad to see it's coming along nicely. It will be great once the area around it has been cleaned up a bit.

Totally enclosed. Cant say too much bout the landscaping though, I assume it'll be improved
