I decided to create a thread to record what's happening at the Old Pabst brewery site in downtown Milwaukee. This is the same location of the failed "Pabstcity" entertainment site which was going to include tenants like House of Blues and ESPN zone.

Thankfully, a succesfull Milwaukee businessman, Joseph Zilber has taken over the project. He's taken a more organic approach to creating a authentic neighborhood, and has stated that it will be his legacy for the city. The project is now called "The Brewery".

From TheBrewery.com (http://www.thebrewerymke.com/aerials/perspectiverend/index.htm)

Background:
The world famous Pabst Brewery, founded in 1844, located in Downtown Milwaukee was at one time the largest brewery in America, bottling millions of barrels of Pabst Blue Ribbon and other famous brands. The brewery closed its doors in 1996. Now the brewery is ready for a new chapter in its rich history.
With strong support from the City of Milwaukee, the availability of state and federal historic tax credits and other available credits, this site is a unique opportunity for investors, brokers and tenants. This neighborhood is coming to life with homes, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants and more.

The Brewery consists of over 20 acres of land, which currently contains 26 buildings and two structures resulting in over 1.3 million square feet along with two major parcels of vacant land each over two acres.

The parking structure will be built at the corner of North Ninth Street and Juneau Avenue and will have 9,000 square feet of first floor retail space. The parking structure is expected to be complete next year. "With the first office tenants moving in in the next two to three weeks and our first residential tenants moving in in the next six weeks, the start of The Brewery garage is the next critical element in the successful development of The Brewery site," said John Kersey, president of The Brewery Project LLC.

This is a great thread, thank you. All of us were excited by the possibility of a massive entertainment area in this facility, but ultimately that was misguided. I think the approach that Zilber has taken and the historic preservation where possible is wonderful. It should create a sense of connectivity with the rest of the downtown area. That brewery always felt carved away from the fabric of the city. Now, this should flow better. I have one concern: that the Pabst sign stays.

Great project! Great to see preservation instead of demolition. Future generations need to stay connected with the history and tradition of their city, and this project helps do that.

Cardinal Stritch will open campus on former Pabst site
By Tom Daykin of the Journal Sentinel
Dec. 18, 2008 4:56 p.m. | Cardinal Stritch University plans to open a satellite campus at the former Pabst brewery.

The Fox Point university announced today that its board had approved "a major expansion" in Milwaukee. A press conference to provide details on the expansion will be Monday at the Pabst site.

A university spokeswoman couldn't be immediately reached for comment. Ald. Robert Bauman, whose district includes the Pabst site, said Cardinal Stritch was planning to lease around 24,000 square feet at one of the former brewery buildings.

The university also is pursuing plans to open a campus in St. Francis, at the Cousins Center.

For a side note; you know the Burleigh Triangle in Wauwatosa could get some ideas from this Pabst Brewery redevelopment. (not just cause they look like the same footprint lol)
