BIR Dipolog launches 'Oplan Kandado'

Dipolog City (10 March) -- Revenue District Officer Cres Agad of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) District 91 based here has recently warned the business establishments in the province and the twin cities of Dipolog and Dapitan that they could be padlocked if they failed to comply with the requirements imposed by the bureau.

Agad also disclosed that the BIR commissioner himself would personally lead in padlocking these erring establishments.

Under the new policy, the business establishment shall be given five days grace period before they shall be closed.

Some grounds cited by the revenue officer included non-issuance of official receipts, and non-registration of establishments engaged in business.

The BIR will also look into the income of the establishment and compare this with the declared income. If it appears to have a 30 percent difference, the bureau will recommend it to be closed. (PF/PIA-ZN)

P40-M cold storage facility to rise in Dapitan

Dipolog City (10 March) -- A P40-million cold storage facility will be definitely placed at Barangay San Pedro, Dapitan City.

National director Malcolm Sarmiento Jr. of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) recently disclosed that he had already seen the project site when he surveyed it together with Zamboanga del Norte Governor Rolando E. Yebes., Dapitan City Vice Mayor Patri Chan and BFAR Regional Director Virgilio Alforque.

The facility shall have a capacity of 400 tons storage including its chill room, contact freezer and other facilities.

Since its funding is already available, BFAR has asked the province its counterpart, which is the preparation of its project site.

It was projected that once the facility is completed, the sardines processors of the province will no longer experience the lean supply of fishes from November to February.

Once there would be big catch in other months, the fishermen would no longer depend on the local market as they could store their catch at the facility and wait for a good price.

Meanwhile, Sarmiento found that BFAR-ZaNorte Multi-Specie Fish Hatchery at Upper Irasan in Roxas town had no incubators and ordered their installation to complete the said facility.

Both Yebes and Sarmiento agreed that local agriculture personnel shall undergo training at Muñoz in order to equip them with the skills in managing a hatchery plant. (PF/PIA-ZN)

BFAR urges Zambo Norte fishers to observe ban period for herring fish

Dipolog City (10 March) -- To protect the bottled sardines industry of Zamboanga del Norte, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources National Director Malcolm Sarmiento Jr. recommended that a ban period be imposed on local fishermen in catching herring fishes locally known as "Malangsi" and "Toloy" within the municipal waters of the province be imposed.

Sarmiento suggested to Zamboanga del Norte Governor Rolando E. Yebes to urge coastal town mayors to pass an ordinance which would allow BFAR to patrol along their coastal waters and help impose the fishing ban against commercial fishing boats which are encroaching into the municipal waters.

Through this, Sarmiento explained, the office could implement the Sardines Management Plan in order to ensure the continuous production of bottled sardines in the province.

For his part, Gov. Yebes assured the BFAR chief that he would ask the town mayors to coordinate with the BFAR in the implementation of the fishery code.

The ban period that BFAR recommends is from November to February, the period where supply of herring fishes has been observed to usually fall. (PF/PIA-ZN)

Katong sa friend sa akong cuzin nga nag work diri dipolog as a call center dili man toh sa DBPO sa AMC lahi pud daw nga call center, then the other one is tapad sa ABS-CBN dipolog nga call center, mo ask pako kung unsa jud nga company na sila kay confusing kaayo...

Boulevard by the riverside

If there is an existing boulevard by the sea in Dipolog, there will be a boulevard by the river soon.

Gov. Rolando Yebes recently disclosed that he had asked Malacañang to appropriate funds for the completion of the Dipolog River Flood Control System. He admitted that such project was not part of his project plan but he recently saw the need to construct the flood control system of Dipolog River, which would extend to Barra.

“When the flood control system is done, a boulevard could as well rise by the river,” the governor said. It was recently observed that the river has now been a tourist destination since a river cruse is frequently done here.

The said project was among the projects that the Provincial Governor was asking Malacañang including the widening of the road going to Dakak park and Beach Resort in Dapitan, cold chain storage facilities, etc.

Earlier this week Gov. Yebes and his technical staff attended the convergence project meeting in Malacañang to present the project proposals for Zamboanga del Norte.

GOV. YEBES INVITES MORE SHIPPING LINES TO PULAUAN

As the operator of the barge cruising the Ozamiz-Mucas route had expressed his desire to open Dapitan-Dumaguete shipping line, Gov. Rolando Yebes warmly welcomed the plan saying more ships at Pulauan Port could mean a healthy economy.

The governor disclosed that a negotiation has already been undertaken by the shipping company and Provincial Atty. Jes Gal Sarmiento, Jr.

“More ships means brisk economy,” the governor said wishing that there could be a ship leaving the port especially bound for Visayas every three hours.
The governor had narrated what he had personally experienced when he traveled the Strong Republic Nautical Highway where big trucks from General Santos City lined up for the ro-ro at Pulauan Port bound for Visayas.

He felt there were several rolling cargoes which could not be readily accommodated due to lack of ships bound for the Visayas.

At present ther are only four shipping companies passing the nautical highway but they were seen as lacking to serve the growing number of ro-ro cargoes.

Yebes dated November 20, 2008 urging for the inclusion of Zamboanga del Norte and the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan in the Mindanao Railway System, Under Secretary for Railway Guiling Mamondiong of the Department of Transportation and Communications responded favorably for the inclusion.

The undersecretary informed the governor that the province and the two cities have already been included in the feasibility study for the first quarter of 2009.
Earlier Yebes was frustrated to know that the Zamboanga Peninsula was excluded as the railway system was planned to end at Iligan City only.

He then wrote PGMA citing reasons for the plea for inclusion. He cited the proximity of the province to the Visayas and Luzon Market and the establishment of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway in Dapitan.

During the recent meeting of the National Anti-Poverty Commission which took up the Livelihood and Job Generation Program, the governor disclosed Under-secretary Mamondiong’s response happily.

He was beaming with pride over the P4B worth of projects that Malacañang gave the province and considered the recent inclusion in the railway system as another gift from PGMA.

“All that I have asked from her were given to us… this is the fist time in the province’s history that Malacañang has showered it with so many blessings,” Gov. Yebes said happily. (Press Freedom, Vol. XXI No.8)

i agree mao na ang disadvantage sa lugar nga nahimutang sa suok. Pero with the theme park ug uban pa nga tourism facilites sa dapitan siguro motupong pud ang iyang development (sa Dipolog):cheers: but with the opening of the new feeder port mas molaksi gyod ang development sa Dipolog. I think kung ma-realize sab ang boulevard sa river that would add grace to the development of Dpolog's tourism.:)
