DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/30 April) — The Davao and Dipolog football teams will represent Mindanao in the quarterfinals of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) – Suzuki Under 23 (U23) National Cup in Bacolod and Laguna next month.

The Dipolog squad crushed the North Cotabato booters at 7 to nothing during the final round of the first game of the Mindanao finals at Tionko Football here on Saturday.

Sparke Espanola scored the opening goal on the 37th minute and another goal just three minutes later by Jerry Barbaso, a former Azkals splayer.

Then just two minutes before the first half ended, Michael Tulang scored for Dipolog making it three to nothing.

In the early minutes of the second half, North Cotabato squad played aggressively but was outplayed by the more robust Dipolog squad after Michael Chua scored the 4th goal at the 72nd minute.

Just two minutes later, Tulang made his second goal.

The Ilonggo squad made a goal attempts after a corner kick but it was easily driven away by the Dipolog booters.

North Cotabato replaced four players in the hope it could defend and score but Chua made his second goal in the 76th minute.

But Clifford Daypuyat beat the defense of perturbed North Cotabato squad and scored the 7th goal for Dipolog on the 85th minute.

Meanwhile, at the second game, John Pelingon scored the opening goal for Cagayan de Oro squad just six minutes after the whistle.

On the 39th minute, Davao’s Juven Benitez scored for the equalizer but scored another goal two minutes later for the lead.

But as the game was about to wrap up, Cagayan de Oro booters stuns Davao squad with an 86th-minute goal by Kirby Relova.

Even with the draw, Davao squad is still ahead of the standings with six points followed by Dipolog while North Cotabato and Cagayan de Oro are tied at one point each.

In a pre-game interview, Davao coach Ramonito “Lalas” Carreon told MindaNews that he told the players not to force themselves to score since they are already ahead of the standings.

At the quarterfinals, the teams will be divided into two brackets and the games will be held in Laguna and Bacolod on May 6 to 10. Teams from Laguna and Masbate will represent Luzon while Iloilo and Bacolod will represent Visayas.

The top two teams will slug it out in the semifinals on May 15 and 16 at Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, the football capital of the Philippines.(Keith Bacongco / MindaNews)

With this nice sports complex in Dapitan, this would leave Dipolog and Pagadian as the only Zampen cities without a palaro capable sports complex?

I don't think so dahil nag-palaro na rin noon sa dipolog way back in 1982.

yeah, dipolog hosted 1982 palarong pambansa... u/c ngayon ang dipolog sports complex at malaki ang area at yung convention as well...

Busy lahat ng delegates na nandito ngayon sa city.. maraming nagppractice, jogging sa bouevard every morning...

wow, congratz zanorte! Malaki ang improvement sa mga facilities sa palaraong pambansa 2011 compared last 2010 nga palaro..nakita ko sa website especially mga pics ang sa last year 2010, last year na palaro sabi 80% lang natapos mga facilities pero naforced na gamitin ito..ngayon 2011 palaro 99% at maganda yung mga facilities so congrats, according sa report, sabi ng mga delegates very accomodating daw ang province.... kip it up!!!

"The project infrastructure and facilities for the Palarong Pambansa is 95% finished overall."

This is the bold pronouncement made by Dapitan City executive assistant Alemarlou Dagpin in an interview with this paper recently.

"We are just doing some finishing touches and repairs for the venue to be ready by May 8. I can give assurance to the people of Dapitan and Zanorte that before the Palaro opens the facilities for operations will be ready," Dagpin added.

With regard to sanitation preparations, Dagpin revealed that the Dapitan City Health office has a monitoring team for the foodselling area during the event. He added that city health office personnel have already started its seminar for vendors and also for those involved in safety and clean food preparations to be served to guest delegates and visitors.

Dagpin also related that the Palaro Executive Committee, headed by Romeo "Nonong" Jalo recently wrote letters to establishments with portable toilets to be borrowed for these to be placed in specified areas around the venue. Dagpin said this is to ensure sanitation all throughout the venue during the event.

As to the water supply, Dagpin disclosed that "there is no problem with the water supply." He said that "wala tay problema gumikan kay dunay kitay duha ka mga kusog nga water supply areas, ang Diwa-an Taliaman Creek ug ang Oyan River."

The Dapitan City executive assistant added that "minor problems like water connections through pipes are already being repaired and attended to by the Dapitan City Water District."

THE Spaniards in those times must have considered Dapitan in faraway Zamboanga as a dumping area for the undesirables. That's why they forcibly put gentleman Jose Rizal on a boat and banished him there to stop him from doing more mischief in Luzon. (But I guess, that did not stop a rendezvous and tryst with lady love Josephine Bracken, did it? )

Well, look again, my friends. Today, Dapitan City is far from being a dumping ground. It is in fact, during the next two weeks or so, the country's center of gravity - for tourists, sports champs, officials and everyone. Thousands of participants of the annual Palarong Pambansa started to arrive this week in this northern nook of Zamboanga del Norte.

Former congressman Romeo "Nonong" Jalosjos and Gov. Rolando Yebes hold sway in this area as territorial political kingpins. I started wondering how Zambo Norte will take care of thousands of visitors. The athletes and officials alone number about 10,000. Well, I was reassured that there will be room for all. Residents will open their doors to "home stays" just to accommodate their guests. That's hospitality for you. A few days ago, I joined Renne Subido, a friend and official of TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. which has mining tenements in the province and neighboring areas in a call on Nonong Jalosjos who is the overall Palaro organizer to take up TVI's support to the games.

Gov. Yebes who was on a land trip en route to Davao for the Masons' Ancom gathering sent his aide Jay to guide me to Nonong's whereabouts that noon. Seated in his small office at his Dapitan resort named "Gloria" (Guess after whom it was named...) In his holiday (and working) shorts, Nonong received us. He looked the same, heavy and tan as when I saw him last sometime ago. He unendingly talked about his continuing "vision" of Dapitan becoming now the tourist hub in the south. The "Gloria Fantasyland" is a marvel of its own within the 20-hectare "Gloria" enclave. Enter the gates and you're indeed in wonderland. Fun rides, all sorts of attractions in colorful glory. The guide Rey told us it's a 300million peso project for "Fantasyland" alone. Fantastic!

Then a short trip to famous Dakak beach resort. It was years ago when travelling to that white-sand hideaway was considered a "long" trip. But the new concrete roads now made me feel it was just next door from Dipolog City. Nonong, since he physically returned from that "involuntary absence" had retouched the whole place. I have an unforgettable story about Dakak. In June 1991, then-President Cory's executive secretary Oca Orbos invited me to a weekend trip to Dakak to celebrate a family event: his wife Rose's birthday. Both of us were in Congress before that and became close buddies.

I got the sense that Oca's trip was a secret escape from the palace and evidently without President Cory's knowledge. Then the unexpected happened. We suddenly got word that Mount Pinatubo was erupting and he was badly needed back in Manila, the President was looking for him and was already upset as he could not be found. Our bags were still unpacked so we rushed back to the Dipolog airport. As we were airborne en route to Manila, we got word that we could not land anywhere in Luzon due to the heavy ash fall. The pilots diverted us to Cebu City where we encamped at the Gaisano's "White Gold" waiting for word on how the "little president" could be safely and immediately ferried back to man the fort in that time of crisis.

Well, ultimately I decided to head back home to safe Davao while Oca and his family finally landed in some Bicol airstrip and took the harrowing and long land trip to Manila to be at the president's side. I had no idea what kind of scolding Oca went through. Hahaha! Anyway, back to present day Dakak. During my visit, a delegation from the Manila Yacht Club was also meeting with Nonong as they were discussing plans to start a marina construction by the small island where an 18-hole golf course is also starting to take shape. The casino nearby which was closed forthwith at the onset of the Aquino administration is looking forward to a possible opening, I was told.

Yes, indeed, the new center of gravity today in this part of the country is the Zamboanga peninsula: Dipolog, Dapitan, Dakak and the neighboring areas like Pagadian, Ipil, Ozamiz and the queen city of Zamboanga. So, if you're on a holiday spree this summer, discover these unique hideaways. You'll be surprised.

Malapit lang po ang Hi Lander Resort sa Dipolog / Dapitan? Nag-aadvertise din sila dito sa ZC. :) I really want to visit those two cities soon!

I remember these two pools pretty well. Dito sa mga pools na ito ako naligo nung pumunta kami diyan in 2004 (including yung pool na may parang island na may coconut tree sa gitna). I was so young and so small then. :colgate: Hindi ko natagalan yung pagligo sa dagat kasi sooobrang lamig ng tubig! Pero I bet kaya ko na yun ngayon. I didn't get to try the jet ski and other equipment though dahil sa age ko nun. Tsk! I'm planning to visit DipDap with my friends. :)

I remember these two pools pretty well. Dito sa mga pools na ito ako naligo nung pumunta kami diyan in 2004 (including yung pool na may parang island na may coconut tree sa gitna). I was so young and so small then. :colgate: Hindi ko natagalan yung pagligo sa dagat kasi sooobrang lamig ng tubig! Pero I bet kaya ko na yun ngayon. I didn't get to try the jet ski and other equipment though dahil sa age ko nun. Tsk! I'm planning to visit DipDap with my friends. :)
40 minutes from dipolog sterno, punta ka, libre mo kami dito..haha... 2004? cool..so how old r u now?

DAPITAN CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines – The country’s top two officials are expected to serve separately as main speakers in the 2011 Palarong Pambansa, the country’s premier sportsfest, which reels off in this Shrine City on May 8, it was learned here recently.

Former Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Romeo G. Jalosjos, chairman of the Palaro executive committee, explained that due to President Aquino’s previously scheduled engagements, the Chief Executive will address the National

Schools Games participants on its closing program on May 14, while Vice President Jejomar Binay will deliver the Palaro keynote speech on its opening rites.

Both activities, Jalosjos said, will be staged at the main grandstand of the Dapitan-based Jose Rizal Memorial State University here whose 10-hectare sports complex will also serve as the main venue of the week-long athletic derby.

Host Region 9 office of the Department of Education (DepEd-9) Director Walter O. Albos said both President Aquino and Vice President Binay will be introduced by Education Secretary Armin A. Luistro.

DA builds P40-M sardine facility in Dapitan City

DAPITAN, Zamboanga del Norte — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has built a P40-million cold storage facility in San Pedro, Dapitan City for the benefit of the P3-billion sardine fishing and processing industry in Zamboanga del Norte.

DA, through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), collaborated with the Dapitan City government of Dapitan and the Zamboanga del Norte provincial government to complete the project.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, who led the inauguration of the facility last April 25, 2011, said the cold storage plant can store up to 300 metric tons (MT) of fish in six compartments (50-MT capacity each). It also has a chiller room (100-ton capacity), and a contact freezer (500-kilo capacity). The facility occupies 5,000 square meters.

The facility was funded by BFAR but the Dapitan City, through Mayor Dominador G. Jalosjos, donated and cleared a seven-hectare area for the structure.

Zamboanga del Norte Governor Rolando E. Yebes will manage and operate the facility.

Alcala said with the facility, production of bottled sardines (making use of herring) will be sustained throughout the year, providing both fishermen and workers sustained livelihood and income.

Sardine makers will be able store and process herring, which is abundant only during December to March in Sulu Sea, along the coast of Zamboanga Peninsula.

The sardine fishing and processing industry in Zamboanga directly employs more than 10,000 fishermen and sardine makers and workers.

It produces a minimum of 15 million cases of sardines yearly, utilizing between 140,000 MT and 175,000 MT of fish. Of these, 13,000 MT, worth $16 million, were exported to the US, Italy, and other European countries in 2008.

BFAR director Malcolm Sarmiento said Zamboanga’s bottled sardines industry has gained a foothold in the domestic market and is gradually penetrating foreign markets.

He said all of the Zamboanga sardine makers are HACCP-certified, enabling them to sell their products here and abroad. Among them are Mendoza Industries, Alenter Foods, Inc., Tita Rosa Foods Inc., and Montaño Foods Inc.

HACCP stands for Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Point. It is a systematic preventive approach to food safety that addresses physical, chemical, and biological hazards as a means of prevention. It is used to identify potential food safety hazards, and subsequently reduce or eliminate such risks. The system is used at all stages of food production, preparation, packaging and distribution.

Four canneries engaged in exports---- Mega, Universal Canning, Permex and Columbus Canning-- have further upgraded their production systems in compliance with European Union (EU) standards, Sarmiento said.

He said THE BFAR in Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) provides training and technical assistance to sardine producers to enable them improve their products and be globally competitive.

It maintains a regional laboratory in Zamboanga that offers free services to processors to check on the quality and chemical composition of their products.

On behalf of Zamboanga fishermen, sardine processors and workers, Gov. Yebes and Mayor Jaloslos thanked Secretary Alcala and Sarmiento for their support.

Yebes said there are currently 23 producers of Spanish sardines in the province. They banded together in 2000, and organized the In-glass Sardines of Dipolog Association or ISDA.

He said the current industry this is a far cry from the time when sardines in glass jars were first introduced to the province by the BFAR in the early 1970s, inspired by Doña Concepcion Macias Vda. De Montaño, who demonstrated the technology she learned from elite Spanish families who processed their own sardines in bottles.

Am excited for these three upcoming rides! :cheers: I do hope they'd put up a bigger ferris wheel in the near future (and probably other mega-sized rides too). Dipolog sure needs a lot more hotels since it's pretty much apparent that the number of tourists in the city has been dramatically increasing in the past few years. :)

With this nice sports complex in Dapitan, this would leave Dipolog and Pagadian as the only Zampen cities without a palaro capable sports complex?

Mas malaki ang ginagawa ng city gov't na sports complex compare sa Dapitan. 1st phase ay iinagurate dis June, (forgot d exact day). Ung convention at oval grounds plang ang natapos.

HINDI pa po tapos yan, PHASE 1 palang po yan, still U/C pa, yung pic u have seen is an update for the PHASE 1 ... :)

Hindi naman yata kasi still on going pa nga ang trabaho. Try to see may mga cabilla structures yata na naka kabit sa mga sides for the pillars ba ang tawag? Anayway, nabasa ko sa previous post na mayroon atang palabas na away ni Pacquiao for free dito kaya inunahan nila ng soft opening?

Hi Dipolog!... I would like to quickly ask if someone here knows about Dakak's 899/999 promo this summer? I was informed that it is inclusive of a room stay and an unlimited fun rides at Fantasyland.. Is it true? If so, kinsay kabalo dnhi on who to contact para ma arrange namo?? my office will have an outing and most of their choices arent as nice as going to Dakak but we are in tight funds.. heehee.. So bason naa kabalo dri on how to arrange with that promo.. Ugma na unta mi muanha ba... :) Thanks Dipolog! :cheers:

For maintaining strong labor-management and community relations

The government’s Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 9 recently awarded TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) the Outstanding Employer of Zamboanga del Norte (Industrial category) award in recognition of its leadership in the advocacy of harmonious relationship between management and labor and sincere implementation of its corporate social commitment programs that benefitted the poor in the province.

The award was conferred upon TVIRD by DOLE Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom in Dipolog City, the Zamboanga del Norte provincial capital, as part of the culminating activities for the 109th celebration of Labor Day. TVIRD’s Canatuan General Manager Ely Valmores and Finance Department Manager Jimmy Guillermo received the award in behalf of the company. TVIRD operates a copper-zinc mining facility in Canatuan, a mountain village in Siocon municipality.

Three other companies also received the award: Katipunan Bank (for the banking and lending sector), Lee Plaza (retail and services) and Zaragoza Sardines (manufacturing).

“DOLE is proud to give the award to these companies not only because they have contributed a lot for the betterment of their host communities, but also because in the course of doing their businesses they showed deep concern for the welfare of their workers,” Ligutom said during the awarding ceremonies whose theme, “Matuwid na daan tungo sa kaunlaran para sa lahat” (Straight path towards progress for all), echoed one of the battle cries of President Benigno Aquino III during the election campaign last year.

“May other companies that operate in the province follow what these awardees are doing, because they are helping change the image of our country,” Ligutom said.

He also explained the criteria for the award: promotion of good labor-management relationship and implementation of programs and projects that are beneficial to the community.

May tana ibalik na sa AirPhil ang Dipolog-Cebu route para barato na ang fare pud sa 5J. Ok man kau traffic nto pa Manila sa 5j. Sa Cebu route medyo di pa daghan ang mosakay plane kay naa may barato nga barko pero nagtaas pud og 20% sa fare ang GP lines ron pa Cebu.
