PNoy allots P850M for Dipolog infra projects

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 2 (PIA) -- Local government infrastructure projects are now on the receiving end of funding from the national budget. This goes too with the infrastructure projects in Dipolog City that will be funded at the cost of P850 million.

In her meeting with President Aquino in Malacañang, city Mayor Evelyn T. Uy said the President assured her the release of the fund,
a big chunk to be used for the expansion/upgrading of the Dipolog City Airport, which was mentioned by the President in his State of the Nation Address.

The mayor said that P150 million of it will be used for the completion of the Corazon C. Aquino Memorial Hospital at Brgy. Biasong, this city.

In a related development, Albert Alimpulos, city planning and development coordinator, said that the coffers of the city government have remained liquid.

It has fully paid its loans for its five projects like the Dipolog Public Market and the implementation of solid waste management for P19.7 million, small and medium scale livelihood projects worth P1 million, computerization program for P10 million, Dipolog Feeder port worth P27 million, and a water supply project costing P10.2 million.

As of 2011, the city’s total income and actual IRA were P519,990.002.04 and P372,399,735, respectively.

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug 2 (PIA) -- Four municipalities in Zamboanga del Norte are set to benefit from a United Children’s Fund (UNICEF) project in the Philippines.

This was contained in the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the joint program of cooperation on Investment Convergence for Equity for Children, signed by the Philippines and the UNICEF.

Signatories for the Philippines were the National Economic Development Authority, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, concerned Local government units (LGUs) while UNICEF was led by its Representative to the Philippines Tomoo Hozumi.

Under the MOU, UNICEF and the national government will provide technical assistance to the 36 LGUs to help them achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly in strengthening policies and implementing social services for children.

The four municipalities in Zamboanga del Norte are Leon Postigo, Tampilisan, Siayan and Sindangan.

Aside from Zamboanga del Norte, the other municipalities are in the provinces of Camarines Norte (Basud, Capalonga, Labo, Mercedes, Paracale, and Vinzons); Masbate (Milagros, Cawayan, Monreal, and Aroroy); Northern Samar (Mapanas and Bobon); North Cotabato (Midsayap, President Roxas, Aleosan and Arakan); Saranggani (Malungon); Sultan Kudarat (Kalamansig and Lebak); Maguindanao (Parang, Upi, South Upi and Mamasapano); Sulu (Parang and Siasi); and Tawi-Tawi (Languyan).

Meanwhile, the six cities are Puerto Princesa City, Zamboanga City, Davao City, Cotabato City, Pasay City and Quezon City.

The 36 LGUs are part of the 609 priority LGUs that already submitted local poverty reduction plans to national government agencies for possible funding.

Socio Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan said 30 municipalities and six cities would comprise the first batch of local government units that would be part of the joint program of cooperation for 2012 to 2016.

Balisacan said the partnership exemplified the high level of enthusiasm and initiative of municipal and city governments in pursuing projects that focus on the rights of children.

One of the LGUs’ commitments was to formulate a technical assistance plan to accelerate the attainment of MDGs for 2012 to 2013 within the framework of their comprehensive development and land use plans, including local poverty reduction plans.

The 36 LGUs are part of the 609 priority LGUs that already submitted local poverty reduction plans to national government agencies for possible funding.

”Through this joint programe, we can provide the enabling environment for LGUs to be aware of, committed to, and capacitated in addressing the most urgent concerns for children in their respective localities,” Balisacan said.

The LGUs will be assisted by national government agencies, UNICEF and other civil society organizations, with their respective Regional Project Monitoring Committees chaired by the NEDA regional directors as responsible units for monitoring and evaluating the joint program. No loan needed in hospital construction, says Dipolog City CDC

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug 4 (PIA) -- The Presidential fund is sufficient to finance the ongoing construction of the Dipolog City Hospital and the city government need not apply for a loan to finish the project.

This was the assurance of Engineer Albert Alimpulos, the concurrent City Development Coordinator (CDC) of Dipolog City amidst allegations that the city government is planning to apply for a loan to finance the construction of the said hospital.

President Aquino, in his campaign sorties during the 2010 Presidential election, has committed P200-million for the construction of the city hospital of Dipolog.

Alimpulos said the initial release of P50-million that was received by the city government through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was used for the Phase I of the project.

Vista Land To Invest P290-B Horizontal Housing In 5 Years

MANILA, Philippines — Vista Land & Lifescapes Inc., the country’s top homebuilder, will continue to aggressively expand its house and lot offerings targeting 50 new provinces in five years with projects having a total market value of about P290 billion.

In an interview during the launch of the firm’s three condominium brands, Vista Land founder Sen. Manuel Villar said that while they are also aggressive in vertical projects, the firm’s horizontal component will still expand at a faster pace because of the huge housing backlog in the provinces.

“We are now in 28 provinces and 58 cities and municipalities. We will expand that to 40 provinces in the next 12 months and add 50 more provinces in the next five years after that,” Villar said.

He said the new markets Vista Land will be expanding into will include Ozamis; Pagadian; Isabela; Dipolog, Zamboanga; Valencia, Bukidnon; Lemery, Batangas; Baguio City; Roxas City; Legazpi City, Albay; and Caticlan, Aklan.

Villar said the firm is launching new horizontal projects worth a total of P32 billion this year and they are projecting a 20 percent increase in market value of projects launched every year for a total of P290 billion from 2013 to 2017.

He noted that demand for house and lot is consistently strong and not affected by the volatility of global financial markets since this is an end-user markets and housing is the top priority of overseas Filipino workers.

“That is why we are going to the provinces. To the hometowns of our OFWs. So that we will have products wherever the Filipino worker wants to buy a house for his or her family,” Villar said.

To improve the quality of life, Vista Land is also building 50 community malls in the established and mature communities it has built over the years. These malls are also seen to boost the firm’s leasing and recurring income.

Vista Land president Manuel Paolo Villar said a recent market study conducted by Colliers International not only ranked the firm as the top developer but also cited its flagship brand Camella as the most preferred brand in the market.

While competition has tried to expand to the middle to lower-end of the horizontal residential segment, Villar said Vista Land continues to dominate the market.

“We are the clear number one,” he said and lamented that there is a misconception that other property firms, particularly condominium builders, have larger sales because some market studies are focused mainly in Metro Manila.

“In fact, 90 percent of the residential property market is outside of Metro Manila,” Villar pointed out adding that Vista Land has the widest geographical reach and is present in the most number of provinces in the country.

He said house and lot packages, which comprise the bulk of Vista Land’s sales, account for the biggest slice of the pie and not condominium units.

50 new McDonald's branches to rise this year

MANILA, Philippines - The master franchise holder of McDonald’s in the Philippines expects as much as 50 new branches this year to take advantage of robust economic growth.

The rapid pace of growth will continue for the next three to five years, an executive said.

“We are very excited, we continue to grow. This year we can grow 40 to 50 stores all over the country,” Kenneth S. Yang, president and CEO of master franchise holder Golden Arches Development Corp., said in a chance interview.

This will allow the company to end the year with a record 370 stores nationwide.

Yang said the expansion is 50 percent more than the company did last year, on top of the store renovations.

“Definitely the economy is very strong and I think the growth of the business process outsourcing industry is helping a lot and the overseas remittances continue to be there,” Yang said. “Consumer spending is still very strong so I think,” he added.

The local economy surged 6.4 percent in the first quarter due to government and private sector spending while January to May remittances climbed 5.5 percent to $9.26 billion from a year ago.

Given the strong fundamentals, Yang said the company is maintaining its bullishness and the rapid expansion pace in the next three to five years.

New branches will be driven by a mix of company-owned stores and by franchising. “Our thrust for franchising is outside Manila, on provincial areas,” Yang said.

McDonald’s is also tapping tourist destinations like Palawan, Bohol and Boracay, Yang said.

Benchmark investment for a new branch is around P40 million, with McDonald’s targeting businessmen, professionals and retirees as its franchising partners.

The first branch of the quick service restaurant chain opened in Morayta, Manila back in 1981.

Meanwhile, profitability of McDonald’s is cut by higher operating costs.

“The challenge is really the cost of operating the business. Costs are increasing like commodity and electricity. It is very hard to keep our profitability at the same level so we try to be more efficient,” Yang said.

2nd ZAMPEN tourism, hospitality education confab held in Dipolog

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 7 (PIA) -- Some 150 college students taking up tourism and hotel and restaurant management from 11 schools in the region recently converged here for the second Zamboanga Peninsula tourism and hospitality education congress.

The congress was organized by the Council of Tourism and Hospitality Educators of Zamboanga Peninsula (CTHEZP) headed by Dr. Joseph G. Refugio of Saint Vincent’s College (SVC) in this city.

The congress, which was anchored on the theme, “Quest for Excellence: Sustainability in Hospitality Education,” centered its discussions on “the role of hospitality education in meeting global challenges, the role of tourism in hospitality education partnership, executive etiquette in the service industry, and building and regenerating learning communities.”

In his message, Department of Tourism (DOT) IX’s head of tourism planning and development unit Bernard C. Gregorio said “the tourism industry is growing strongly offering more employment opportunities than other industries in the world.”

“In the Philippines, tourism industry ranked fourth in terms of economic contributions,” Gregorio added.

He commended the organizers for spearheading the gathering as this would serve as an avenue for knowledge sharing between and among professors and students and elevate the standards of hospitality education.

The congress participants were from Dipolog City Institute of Technology (DCIT), Dipolog City; Colegio de San Francisco Javier of Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte; Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU)-Katipunan, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte; Medina College Ipil, Inc. (MCII) of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) of Zamboanga City; Southern Mindanao College (SMC) of Pagadian City; Immaculate Concepcion Archdiocesan School (ICAS) of Zamboanga City; Zamboanga City State College of Marine Science and Technology (ZSCMST); JRMSU-Tampilisan, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City Polytechnic State College (ZPSC) of Zamboanga City; and SVC, the host school. DILG names 13 consistent top performing LGUs

An August 14, 2012, press release from the Department of Interior and Local Government

Thirteen cities and municipalities in the country have emerged as consistent top performers in the local government state of performance report for the last three years, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Secretary of Interior and Local Government Jesse M. Robredo identified the consistent top performing local government units (LGUs) as the provinces of La Union, Cavite, Albay, and Ilocos Norte; the cities of Valenzuela, Makati, Angeles, Taguig, Davao, Laoag, Vigan, and Cabanatuan; and the municipality of Ilagan in Isabela province.

“I extol these local governments for their unwavering commitment in scaling up and maintaining the highest standards of public service delivery in their respective localities. Their shining examples serve as an inspiration to others to strive hard in the performance of their mandates,” he said.

Robredo said the thirteen LGUs regularly made it to the top ten provincial, city and municipal governments that gained the highest scores for the period 2009 to 2011 in the Department-administered Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS), which is being done annually.

LGPMS is a management and development tool that does not only enable local governments to determine their capabilities and limitations in the delivery of public services, but also provides information on the state of local governance performance and their state of local development.

The DILG Secretary explained that local governments are being assessed and ranked based on performance area index ranging from one to five, with one as the lowest and five as the highest, in the following areas: administrative governance, social governance, economic governance, environmental governance and fundamentals of good governance, which include transparency, participation, and financial accountability.

A team composed of representatives from the national and local governments conducts the evaluation, while results are being validated by civil society organizations to maintain impartiality, he said.

Robredo said that LGPMS topnotchers do not only earn the distinction of being among the best performing LGUs but they will also have a greater chance to be nominated to the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi, which is being conferred to LGUs that advances the tenets of good governance based on certain criteria, including the LGPMS.

For 2011, the following are the top performing provincial, city and municipal governments with their corresponding LGPMS rankings: Provinces—Bohol (4.91); La Union (4.89); Cavite (4.88); Pangasinan (4.87); South Cotabato (4.864); Mountain Province (4.855); Albay (4.839); Bulacan (4.836); Rizal (4.832); and Ilocos Norte (4.828).

Highly urbanized cities—San Juan City (4.9); Puerto Princesa City (4.88); Iloilo City (4.87); Valenzuela City (4.85); Makati City (4.819); Angeles City (4.816); Tacloban City (4.77); Quezon City (4.75); Taguig City (4.71); and Davao City (4.7).

Component Cities—Laoag City (4.99); Naga City (4.93); Vigan City (4.921); Ligao City (4.917); Tagaytay City (4.87); Cabanatuan City (4.86); Dipolog City (4.83); Calamba City (4.82); San Fernando City, La Union (4.81); and La Carlota City (4.79).

Definitely not. Its more likely commercial stalls for lease, not a car showroom. There is no authorized hyundai dealer yet in dipolog, however, pitstop sells brand new hyundai automobiles (sta.fe,tucson,starex & accent) aside from nissan (navarra).

There is a nipa land just recently cleared up a few meters from isuzu affront petron, although unverified,the land belongs to toyota motors.

Yes, there was an info before from Toyota Dipolog salesman that Toyota CDO plans to open a satellite office in our city. Aside from that. another good news is the entry of a davao based retail chain. That's it for now until they will start constructing the building. Hehehehe...

Open naman siguro ang satellite office sa Toyota diha sa Dipolog dash. Nakabasa kog tarp nga "now open", naa sila dha sa Shell Station, just across Isuzu Dipolog.

Dipolog City ranks best among LGUs in region 9

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 14 (PIA) -- Dipolog City got the highest rating among local government units (LGUs) in Zamboanga Peninsula region, based on the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS) report.

Arnel Gudio, DILG - Zamboanga del Norte provincial director, reported this during the Dipolog City Sangguniang Panlungsod’s LGPMS exit conference last August 8.

Gudio said that based on the LGPMS Report or State of Local Governance Report as summed up in its Overall Performance Index of the DILG, Dipolog City got 96.69 percent in 2011, the highest rating in the region.

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug 24 (PIA) -- The first leg of a series of orientation-seminars by the Board of Investments (BOI) on the 2012 Investment Priorities Plan (IPP) was held yesterday here with city and municipal officials, business leaders and representatives of national and local government agencies as participants.

DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, Aug 22 (PIA) -- The mayor of Dipolog City described Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash on Saturday in the seas off Masbate, as �€œsincere, upright, honest and hardworking.�€�

Mayor Evelyn T. Uy remembered the late local government chief as the prime mover of the �€œSeal of Good Housekeeping�€� among local government units (LGU) in support of President Benigno S. Aquino III�€™s �€œMatuwid na Daan (straight path).�€�

Uy said she felt sad that Robredo could no longer see the fruits of his endeavor in shaping up the LGUs curb graft and corruption and promoting good governance.

On the other hand, parang hindi kapanipaniwala na biglang natanggal kaagad sa list after one year. If I remember last year lang sila nag palabas ng official list wherein ZN ranked 2nd to Tawi-Tawi.

Anyway, if this data is really true then we will congratulate DSWD for its fight to eradicate poverty. As far as I know DSWD is embarking on its Convergence strategy of implementing the poverty alleviation projects using the TatSulo. (Pantawid Pamilya; Sustainable Livelihood and the KALAHI-CIDSS. Under the KALAHI they also have the Makamasang Tugon and the PAMANA.:banana:

HEHEHE oo nga. all we have to do is to hope na lang na sana ginagawa na ng city gov't ng lahat upang tuluyan ng makapaginvest ang gaisano d2 sa atin o kaya ang ibang malls hehehe. naiwanan na kac ang city sa other cities like ozamiz, pagadian, at iba pa na kung sa pagkakaalam ko lang pare-pareho lang sila ng estado ehh heheh. ngaun progressive na sila. ang ozamiz mayroon na silang sariling gaisano at robinson's supermarket sa geege mall nila doon tapos ang pagadian mayroon rin silang gaisano at robinson's sa c3 mall. nakakainggit kasi isipin na sila progressive na tapos tayo hinde hehe. :(

HEHEHE oo nga. all we have to do is to hope na lang na sana ginagawa na ng city gov't ng lahat upang tuluyan ng makapaginvest ang gaisano d2 sa atin o kaya ang ibang malls hehehe. naiwanan na kac ang city sa other cities like ozamiz, pagadian, at iba pa na kung sa pagkakaalam ko lang pare-pareho lang sila ng estado ehh heheh. ngaun progressive na sila. ang ozamiz mayroon na silang sariling gaisano at robinson's supermarket sa geege mall nila doon tapos ang pagadian mayroon rin silang gaisano at robinson's sa c3 mall. nakakainggit kasi isipin na sila progressive na tapos tayo hinde hehe. :(

Ang poverty statistics if you rank by province, and ZN dili pasok sa top ten but if you see the poverty statistics ranking by municipalities, duna gihapon about 4 municipalities sa ZN nga pasok sa top ten. Isa na diha ang Siayan.

Good news for Zampen because according to the latest survey, bumaba ang figures for zampen ibig sabihin umangat na ang dating mahirap to the level of above poverty line and this was brought about by the constant intervention made by DSWD to alleviate the poor. Dako ang contribution of percentage of increase from Zambo. Sur.

the zanorte provincial govt has nothing to do with this. If not for the conditional cash transfer of the national govt, zanorte is still a topnotch poverty-stricken province. Having significantly huge debt and nearly deficit in funds, I wonder exactly, in what capacity can the province have the means to eradicate or to be more realistic, reduce poverty.

P2.3-M child devt center to rise in Dipolog

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 30 (PIA) -– A child development facility worth P2.3 million will soon be constructed in Brgy. Olingan, this city to support the implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development program.

In a statement issued by the City Information Office, it said that the city is one of the 100 recipients of the National Child Development Center nationwide and the first in the region.

With this, a series of training on early childhood care for day-care workers would be conducted to equip them with necessary knowledge and skills in handling and attending the needs of children from zero to six years old.

In a related development, the Early Childhood Care and Development Council headed by Celia Eugenio has recently conducted here a seminar dubbed “Induction Program for Daycare Workers.”

Participants include those from Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office and the municipalities of Leon Postigo and Siayan.

The training underscored the importance of “Early Learning Development Standards” for Filipino children.

Also tackled in said training are topics such as child brain development, parents as partners in ECCD program, importance of active play for children and others.

The national leadership has been pushing for projects aimed at improving the quality of early childhood program in the country. (JPA/FPG-PIA, Zamboanga del Norte)

Malampuson napahigayon ang Turn-over ceremony sa Sicayab National Highschool (SNHS) niadtong Agosto 30 ning tuiga.

Ang nasangpit nga proyekto ang gilangkoban sa 2 storey 6 classrooms building nga nagbaton sa 3 ka mga comfort rooms, kansang pondo niini ang matud pa nagagikan sa Department of Education nga gitunol pinaagi sa rehiyonal nga buhatan niini ug gihatag usab ngadto sa kagamhanang lokal ning dakbayan pinaagi ni Mayor Evelyn T. Uy.

Sumala pa nga kining nasangpit nga proyekto ang mismo usab ihatag sa Mayora ngadto na sa Dipolog City Schools Division ning dakbayan ilawom sa pagdumala ni School Superintendent Madam Victorina Perez, diin ang nahimong resipiyente niini mao ang Sicayab National Highschool.

Sumala pa nga ang nasangpit nga proyekto ang nagkantidad up P7,421,000.00, diin dugang usab nga nasayran nga kini ang paga-sumpayan sa panahon nga makadawat na ug SARO ang DepEd.

Ang maong turn-over ceremony ang gitambongan nila ni Mayor Uy, School Superintendent Madam Perez, Barangay Chairman Hon. Julius Gajonera ug mga konsehales niini, SNHS principal Josepina Tan, mga magtutudlo ug mga magtutungha sa maong eskwelahan.

Dugang pa nga ang mga kadagkuan diha sa SNHS ang naghimu ug mga pamaagi aron mahuman ang gihimong proyekto sulod sa maong tulunghaan ug mapahimuslan na kini sa mga kabataan.

Pikas nga bahin mipabati sa iyang pagpasalamat si SNHS Principal Tan sa DepEd, ngadto sa mga barangay opisyales sa Barangay Sicayab, mga ginikanan, magtutudlo, mga estudyante ug sa kagamhanang lokal sa Dpolog gumikan sa paghatag ug mga ayuda ug suporta alang sa paghuman sa maong proyekto.(CIO-ZSM

The City Government of Dipolog in cooperation with the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will stage on official PBA game between GLOBAL PORT BATANG PIER (POWERADE) and the ALASKA ACES in the evening of December 1, 2012 at the new Dipolog Sports Complex, in Barangay Olingan, this city.

The PBA and the city, which is the Provincial Game Organizer, are now in the process of finalizing the Terms and Conditions that will govern the staging of the game in Dipolog City.

The Alaska Aces has Eddie Laure, who is from Dipolog City, as one of its players.(CIO-alb)

In fairness dash without bragging ga sugod na ug pangabot ang mga national events dinhi sa atong lugar because we have lots of venues to choose from nga at par with other big cities i.e., City Coliseum; Provincial Cultural and Sports Center; ABC Gym, sa mga National Games like Palaro we have the Dapitan City Sports Complex and the upcoming Dipolog City Sports complex as well as the Provincial Sports complex nga soon to be renovated.

DOST boosts 2 Dipolog food-firms’ output

ZAMBOANGA CITY—The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (Setup) has provided more than P500,000 financial and technical assistance to boost the production of two Dipolog City-based food firms.

Setup, a flagship program of the DOST, is a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to implement technological innovations and improvements in their operations to boost their productivity and competitiveness.

The beneficiaries of the DOST’s Setup financial and technical assistance are the Goodies Milk Products and KRAM’s Food Products, which will receive financial assistance of P426,000 and P120,000, respectively, according to DOST Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano.

Manzano said the Goodies Milk Products is a family enterprise, which engages in the production and processing of fresh milk and other processed milk products while KRAM’s Food Products is into the peanut-butter business.

Manzano said the money for Goodies Milk Products will be used to purchase a stainless-steel table, an 80-liter capacity pasteurizer, a 120-liter capacity refilling tank, an upright freezer and an upright chiller which are “needed production equipment.”

Dipolog’s peanut butter maker receives DOST IX assistance

DIPOLOG CITY, September 14 -- A peanut butter processing small medium enterprise in Dipolog City has received assistance from the Department of Science and Technology- Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP) to upgrade its processing facility.

KRAM’s Food Products, located at Padre Ramon Extension, Estaka, Dipolog City, received an innovation system support assistance amounting to P120,000. With the assistance, the firm is set to acquire two peanut grinders , two stainless steel table, peanut roaster, and biomass stove. DOST IX also conducted trainings on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Basic Sanitation and Hygiene to the company’s workforce.

Yes, approximately 4 KM from the City going to Mun. of Polanco. Polanco and Dipolog by the way is just 8KM away from each other. Municipalities of Polanco and Piñan and its territorial barangays were actually under Dipolog City before they became independent municiplities in August 22, 1951, a year before the birth of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur in 1952.

DIPOLOG CITY, SEPT. 20(PIA) -- Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy has recently received the Marker of the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The marker of SGH was given by City DILG Officer Lerma Campaner to Mayor Uy during the flag-raising ceremony, at the Plaza Magsaysay, this city last Monday. It was witnessed by the City Government Officials and employees

In her message, Mayor Uy expressed her gratitude to DILG for recognizing her effort as she acknowledged the cooperation of the City officials and employees and all the Dipolognons, and their support to the City Government initiatives that makes the capital city more progressive.

Campaner said the SGH award which is on Bronze level was given to Dipolog City LGU in 2011 after it has complied with the criteria set by DILG for good governance and the full disclosure program, no adverse report from the Commission and Audit(COA), and the strategies adapted by the City Government to implement various programs and projects.

For its feat, the Dipolog City Government is eligible to receive P2-million as cash incentives for its development needs. Municipal awardees are eligible to receive P1-million and P3-million for the province.

Other criteria include the local ordinance crafted by Sangguniang Panlungsod for future development, revenue generation, transparency, financial accountability and other guidelines set under the Local Government Management System.

“The Seal of Good Housekeeping is conferred to the Local Government Units that have no adverse report from the Commission on Audit, and has complied with the posting of the required 12 financial documents,” Campaner said. This also becomes a new requirement needed by an LGU to secure loan from banks and other financial institutions.

According to the DILG, only LGUs that have been conferred with the Seal of Good Housekeeping will be allowed to secure a loan from the banks and other financial institutions.

Former senator urges businessmen to help poor

DIPOLOG CITY — Against the backdrop of mushrooming business establishments, poverty, hunger and lack of opportunities still stalk the whole country today.

This was the gist of the message of former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. before a group of businessmen and local government officials attending the recently concluded “Dipolog Business Summit.”

Magsaysay also urged the business sector to support President Aquino’s campaign against graft and corruption, saying “we have now a President who means business to clean up the bureaucracy.”

Moreover, he reminded the businessmen “The capital that they need is not just money but human capital as well.”

“Educated and well-trained workers are the best human capital for any business venture to flourish,” he said.

The one-day business summit, which was organized by the Dipolog City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) headed by Atty. Paul Gudmalin, also tackled topics on bamboo farming, bio-fuel, responsible mining and Dipolog’s “Swigapore 2030” vision that aims to make the city a bustling commercial center comparable to the city-state of Singapore with a green and healthy environment similar to Switzerland.

The latest report of the National Statistical Coordination Board show that Dipolog City is the richest local government unit in Region 9.

Mining firm to earn $10.5M in latest shipment

THE TVI Resource Development Inc. (TVIRD) is expected to earn $10.5 million in gross revenue in its latest shipment of copper concentrate to a metal trading company abroad.

The TVIRD is into copper and zinc mining in Sitio Canatuan, Tabayo village, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

The latest shipment, which is the 31st, has a volume of 5,026 dry metric tonnes (dmt) of copper concentrates that was shipped on Saturday from the port of Santa Maria, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

TVIRD public affairs chief Gene Gregorio said the shipment was in accordance with the off-take agreement between TVIRD and MRI Trading AG (MRI).

MRI Trading AG, a metal trading company, trades in concentrates and other non-ferrous raw materials.

The company, which was founded in 2004, engages in trading copper, zinc, and lead non-ferrous concentrates and metals, as well as gold, molybdenum concentrates, and cobalt concentrates/metals.

Meanwhile, Gregorio said the remaining inventory of TVIRD is approximately 1,168 dmt of copper concentrate.

Gregoio said the production remains steady at the Canatuan mine, achieving copper concentrate grade levels between 18 and 25 percent.

TVIRD anticipates that future shipments of copper concentrate will continue approximately every six to eight weeks, Gregorio said.

TVIRD is the Philippine affiliate of TVI Pacific Inc., a publicly-traded Canadian company that is focused on the production, development, exploration and acquisition of resource projects in the Philippines.

TVIRD produces copper and zinc concentrates from its Canatuan mine in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

It is pre-developing its Balabag gold and silver project in the municipality of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur, and is carrying out exploration programs on its other North Zamboanga tenements.

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu Pacific is launching 4 domestic routes, as it expands its Philippine route network.
The budget airline started its Cebu-Coron (Busuanga) flight today, and will launch its Davao-Butuan flight and Davao-Dipolog flight tomorrow (October 5).

Also on Friday, Cebu Pacific will also launch its thrice weekly flights from Iloilo to Tacloban.
These new routes will utilize CEB’s ATR 72-500 aircraft.

"We are very pleased to expand our Philippine network, especially since these direct flights will boost travel, tourism and trade in different regions of the country," CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog said, in a statement.

The Gokongwei-led airline currently operates from 5 hubs: Manila, Cebu, Clark, Kalibo and Davao.
It will launch its Iloilo hub in November with maiden flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong and Singapore.
The airline will launch four more domestic routes later this month

MAYOR UY MIREKOMENDAR ALANG SA UBOS NGA PRESYO SA MGA PBA TICKETS

Usa ka maayong desisyon ang naumol nga kasabutan sa Executive Committee sa PBA Games dinhi sa Dakbayan sa Dipolog human gihatagan nila ug pagtagad ang rekomendasyon ni Mayor Evelyn Uy nga pa-ubsan o konhuran ang presyo sa ibaligya nga mga tickets alang sa PBA 1st Official Provincial Game sa Philippine Cup nga ipahigayon dinhi sa Dipolog karong umaabot Disyembre 1, 2012 sa Dipolog Sports Center.

Nasayran nga ang ibaligya nga tickets alang sa general admission sa PBA Games mokabat na karon sa tag-200 pesos ang usa ka ticket gikan sa P300.00; ang upper box mokostar ug 400 ka pesos gikan sa P500.00; lower box sa tag-600 pesos matag ticket gikan sa P800.00; ug ang courtside seat ticket mokostar ug tagsa ka libo (1,000) ka pesos gikan sa tag-P3,000.00.

Gihatagan ug konsiderasyon sa ExeCom sa PBA Games ang rekomendasyon ni Mayor Evelyn Uy gumikan kay gipatin-aw ni Mayor Uy nga buot niyang hatagan ug dakung higayon ang mga katawhan sa Dipolog nga makalan-taw ning maong talagsa-ong kulba-hinam nga dula sa basketball sa personal, nga makita lang natong tanan sa telebisyon. Leaking fertilizer-loaded
vessel beached

A cargo vessel carrying an estimated 16,000 bags of fertilizer en route to Mindanao was forced to beach off the coast of Siquijor province at around 5 a.m. Sunday when its cargo hold compartment leaked.

Police Officer 1 Guillermo Bahandi, chief of the Coast Guard detachment in Larena, Siquijor, said no one was injured and the M/V Queen of Joy was brought close to the coast of the Coco Grove Resort in San Juan town, as a safety measure and to protect its cargo.

Initial investigation showed that the vessel left Isabela, Leyte Saturday on its way to Dipolog City when crew members discovered leak in one of its compartments at the cargo hold, Bahandi said.

A tug boat was dispatched by the PCG, and the fertilizer bags offloaded to another vessel that departed Monday for Dapitan.

The source of the leak was not yet known. PCG officials advised ship captain Lorenzo Giligani to immediately file a marine protest.

The distressed vessel was expected to depart from Siquijor last night, Bahandi said.*JFP
