Cheers to Ben @ S-A

Type: Development Application Received
Application Number: DA/961/2008
Lodgement Date: 26/11/2008
Location: 273-287 Grote Street, ADELAIDE SA 5000
Description: Demolish existing buildings and construct 3 eight storey student accommodation buildings with commercial on ground floor.

For people from interstate, this site is right near the intersection of Grote and West Terrace and is outside the main CBD area.

Looks like a great development, it will bring density to that area.

Oh wow, for uni students, cool! Never seen a development like this before - for students that is!

Maybe.. the developers can make it 1x24L building, now thats smart

^^ You can live there too, if mummy gives you enough money for the rent and the two Qantas flights to school. Might be a bit of a commute to year 7/8 classes in Rocky tho :(

And they don't build these things to be attractive to skyscraper foamers - hence why it's 3x 8 levels.

If you lived in a state other than QLD or WA, you'd be in Year 7 this year, going into Year 8.

You seem very proud of being a junior schoolkid.

There is plenty around Adelaide, and theres plans for even more especially that the State Government is trying to make Adelaide a 'University City' which has made Adelaide the fastest growing city for international students.

No its not, its cheaper to build 3x8 storey buildings than a 24 storey building. Plus it would stick out like a sore thumb because there is hardly any height in that area atm.

Actually thats not true, some student apartments can turn out brilliant like Eastwest on North Terrace and the recently completed Ipad Apartments however some can turn out shocking like Spark 88.

This project has been up in the air for quite some time. It has been approved and advertising has begun. http://buildinglist.photoadelaide.com/pics/144_S.jpg

same project?: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=758148

looks pretty average, i'd rather see one really tall building than 3 little ones, the western face looks pretty crap but then it is the property boundary and something sexier (i hope) could always be built where the HJ's and Shell is.

Nothing special, but at least it will bring some much needed life and height to that area.
