SoboleuS December 6th, 2003, 10:06 PM Interesting ;) - not so dense... but some really nice and tall buildings 7.5/10
Venezuelacom December 6th, 2003, 10:11 PM it's a shame the buildings aren't too tall, but they got nice desings, 8/10
Bratzo December 7th, 2003, 06:37 AM i don't know if it's cause i live here...but..i've come to the idea that THE SIZE DONESN'T MATTER!!!
Necker December 8th, 2003, 07:47 PM Some nice buildings.
JorgeR December 11th, 2003, 01:43 AM Innovative with great and modern towers 8.0
Þróndeimr December 11th, 2003, 08:29 AM Very good to be a so poor city: 7.5/10

renell December 14th, 2003, 02:19 PM 7/10 what natural settings (cliffs) but the skyline isn't too much special
Big! December 16th, 2003, 11:43 AM 6.5/10
weirdo December 21st, 2003, 09:45 PM nice towers. i like some designs. common looking ones only add to the diversity. so it's a good thing too. although the skyline isn't too tall, the density is cool. it's cool. i'm giving it 6.5 as well. great pics too.

SeeMacau December 27th, 2003, 04:41 PM Some nice buildings in the skyline
8/10
Nick in Atlanta December 28th, 2003, 10:55 PM Nice!
I didn't realize that Lima was on the coast. I thought the closest seaside city was Callao.
Bratzo December 30th, 2003, 02:33 AM well...actually callao is surrounded by the city of lima
Imperfect Ending January 1st, 2004, 12:47 PM 8
Great!
BoresvilleMcYawn January 2nd, 2004, 09:03 AM first of all Lima is dense, its suburbs do reach the coast, and its not as poor as some of you think. Yes Peru is a third world country, but it currently has one of the highest economic growth rates in the world, and Lima is just as modern as say bogota.
Fabio January 5th, 2004, 12:33 AM 8.5/10
pretty nice
thisius January 5th, 2004, 12:27 PM Pretty nice and surpising skyline!
Especially the location at the sea with the dramatic coastline.
I'll give it a 7/10

ParraMan January 12th, 2004, 10:32 PM 7.5
That last pic you posted Bratzo, it looks like the core of the city- very nice and interesting and of course busy being such a big city. However it doesn't seem too well defined as aganist the rest of the city, all dense, midrise residentials I presume. Needs a bit more height around the core to get more points, otherwise fantastic looking place :okay:
Jo January 12th, 2004, 11:52 PM 8/10
The skyline itself looks a little disorganised but it has some innovative and modern looking highrises and that pyramid rocks! Speaking of rocks, the coastline is also nice.
Bratzo January 13th, 2004, 06:02 AM mm..idk about being the core...you are right about a disperse skyline...but thats the deal...because of that the city doesnt have an specified core...

skyperu34 February 22nd, 2004, 07:12 PM Definitively, Lima has nothing to envy the rest of the cities worldwide although it lacks height and more highrises.
The new and innovative designs have given this city a respecful reputation......... I give this city a 9..........

claroscuro July 5th, 2004, 10:09 AM I think this city is very underrated. I mean, how many cities do have a waterfront facing the ocean, a fairly decent skyline and a World Heritage colonial downtown? O.K., Lima isn't the only one, but the point is, it has what it takes.
I give 7.5 to a skyline with a lot of potential.

HOWEVER, IF I MAY SUGGEST, U SHOULD HAVE TAKEN PICS FROM CERRO RAUL FERRERO BETWEEN MONTERRICO, SURCO AND LA MOLINA, BECAUSE FROM THERE U CAN TAKE PICS OF THE NEW SKYLINE BEING BUILT IN SAN ISIDRO, CANAVAL &MOREYRA, PLUS FROM THAT LOCATION THE WHOLE OF LIMA CAN BE SEEN, DOWNTOWN LIMA, THE PORT OF CALLAO, MIRAFLORES, CHORRILLOS, I´M GONNA TRY TO TAKE A PIC FROM THERE.
ANYWAY THANKS FOR SHOWING OUR LIMA TO THE WORLD!

BHK25 March 3rd, 2005, 03:09 AM Yes. That cliff is impressive. I'd look espectacular if they fill those gaps in the skyline. too bad most of the taller buildings are in the Financial District well inland.

scdog99 March 8th, 2005, 10:40 PM Lima is a vast polluted metropolis situated in the middle of Peru’s desert coastline. It is a magnet for struggling highland people who moved there to find jobs. Lima does have great cafés, great museums, lots of pretty old buildings, a zoo, lovely plazas, many outdoor markets, and friendly people. OVER 300,000 people live in shantytowns- any city like this needs help. IT IS AWFUL THAT SO MANY SKYSCRAPERS AND BEACH RESORTS ARE BEING BUILT WHEN SO MANY ARE EVEN STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE! THIS CITY, LIKE MEXICO CITY, RIO, AND OTHER LATIN CITIES NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. SKYSCRAPERS DON'T MEAN A CITY IS A GOOD PLACE!
scdog99 March 8th, 2005, 10:43 PM http://www.sunspot.org.uk/perutrust/shantytown.jpg visit here to see how many people here live and then look at the rich houses. IT JUST AIN"T FAIR!
BHK25 March 9th, 2005, 03:13 AM Don't you find that in every major city? I mean we're talking about things that Lima didn't have 15 years ago. I understand what you're trying to say though. the gap is incredible because a lot of people don't have access to all the comodities the city offers. This not happening in Latinamerican only,But its the same in China, India , and other developing countries.

What the...???? What do you mean "get their act together", do you want middle class and upper class peruvians to go live in shacks, or do you prefer that they give up their homes for slum dwelers?
If there is a failry large middle class in Lima, it's because these people, like my family, have worked hard to earn what they have....OK?? How can these people live well? EASY, working hard and earning everything they have. Period.

DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT?????? I myslef been to Lima persoally and I never expierenced and of the things you listed. I've seen more homeless people in NYC than Lima. 300,000 out of over a million isn't that bad considering it is a third/developing country. You shoudl actually mak an attempt to visit Lima. Love the skyscrapers on the cliff look, plus a lot of innovative and unusual buildings as well as lots of greenery. Love it! Lack of height brings my score down a bit though.
Dug this up today after the first episode of Amazing Race 7 screened in Australia last night - one of the contestants, a chopper pilot who was held prisinor in Iraq, compared Lima to Baghdad. A very unfair comparison from what I've seen.

Being a POW really messed up his head. comparing Lima to Baghdad is like comparing sydney to Kabul. :weird: :weird: :weird:

PaiMei74 January 13th, 2006, 01:09 AM LIMA: Capital of Peru, on the Pacific coast of South America. It is the economic, finance and cultural center of the country.
Founded in the XVI century, it has a rich colonial downtown (UNESCO World Heritage) and big modern districts.
Population: about 8 million (2005)

Animo January 13th, 2006, 02:04 AM Information: More than 400 years ago, the Spanish conqueror ("conquistador") Francisco Pizarro named Lima the City of the Kings ("Ciudad de los Reyes"). Nowadays, that same city, which rose from the lands of the native chief Taulischusco, is a metropolis of over 7 million people who proudly preserve the colonial convents and mansions which are symbols of their ancient and noble traditions.

Animo January 13th, 2006, 02:05 AM ^^ Overall: 10/10
Spearman January 13th, 2006, 03:17 AM Many beautiful old buildings, and also many buildings with some height in the ~30st range. Unfortunately they all seem to kill each other, and no clear city centre emerges. Maybe it's just unrepresentative pictures, but I can't give this more than a 4,5/10.
Strange. It seems to want to go higher. If it was for fear of earthquakes, they would avoid the heigth that seem to dominate. :?
LMCA1990 January 13th, 2006, 03:42 AM 8/10- nice city, but not that many skyscrapers (just low rises).

jose61493 February 15th, 2006, 04:18 AM Correct me if Im wrong but the reason i think there are not so many highrises is becuause of earthquakes. Lima is located on an extremenly active seismic location most like more than western US. An an earthquake destroyed practactly the whole city in the 1700's. For its restrictions Lima has done a wonderful job and there are many beautiful buildings. In regard to poverty: When there are skycrapers it is a sign of commerce. Commerce helps abolish poverty faster because the economy gets stronger and helps unemployment and underemployment. Currently the Peruvian economy is growing at an extremely high rate and is the sixth fastest growing in the world. In a few years Lima probaly wont have any more poverty than any North American city. Public service is developing rapidly. Some tourists can't even tell the difference from some areas of Lima and anyother western city. I say this as a Limeño and by my observations of my city.

George W. Bush January 6th, 2007, 12:05 AM Judging by the pics there's some change since when I left Lima 20 years ago. San Isidro got its fair share of new buildings. But all in all it still appears to be the way I remember it, maybe with a slightly fresher look. Cars and buses are much less decrepit, though. asif iqbal May 26th, 2007, 08:22 PM haha, in South America. Its borders are Ecuador and Colombia in the north Brazil in the east and Bolivia and Chile in the south.
no i meant is it a US allie or on side of Chavez?
J-BEAT May 26th, 2007, 09:01 PM US allie.
Peru with Chile Colombia Costa Rica and Panama are the group of countrys in Latin America that haven't any relation with Chavez.
sebvill May 26th, 2007, 09:14 PM ....and Uruguay.
The RIGHT WING countries - Chile, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Uruguay, Panama and Costa Rica.
The LEFT WING countries- Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua.
Brazil is a whore, she dance with everybody. :) but its a bit more LEFT WINGED.
asif iqbal May 26th, 2007, 10:27 PM ok so it seems that its 50/50 divide in south america half are US allies others not so much but i think US is to blame because they always make Canada and its well developed and has open border but always treat south ameircans with disrespect and dont allow development and progress
US is strong country yet they never make South America nice place like Canada and also Hispanics is doing low jobs in US like janitors and cleaners jobs no one else want to do i never see Canadian being like this! what think you guys!
sebvill May 27th, 2007, 03:16 AM South America IS A NICE PLACE, without US help. If you belong to the high class or you are a middleclasser Latin America is probably the best place to live in the World.
There are many Hipanics that triunph in USA, however most migrants to the US are poor (obviously as rich and middleclassers dont have the urge to move), thats why you see many Latins making poorly payed jobs. As you see turks doing the same jobs in Germany, africans in France, Spain and Italy or Koreans in Japan. In the same position were the millions of Europeans that arrived to Latin America last century, but they progress....the World changes, latins in USA will have more power each day, as europeans had in South America last century. In fact 40% of all southamericans are direct descendants of europeans, while 30% are mix of europeans with indians. Migration brakes frontiers. And if Latin America isnt a highly developed continent is because of latinamericans and not beacuse the US.
Anyway, back to the main theme: LIMA!
asif iqbal May 27th, 2007, 04:54 PM South America IS A NICE PLACE, without US help.
I dont want to get into politics im just curious, I agree maybe my understanding of latin america isnt as good as yours because i am far away from the issue but I dont quite belive it
Hispanics triunph in USA yes i agree from sports to showbiz they are very sucecessful which says alot about them, if given a eqaul opppourtunity and chance in life they can perform just as good as white americans but the questions is do the people in latin america get that CHANCE! and the answer is no
Turks do same jobs in turkey because of Ottoman past, Turks dont allowed in EU because is afraid of Turkish power so they dont let them grow
Africans do this low jobs because of trade sanctions and colonial past and keeping black people as slaves and destroy thier countrys, no African country can progress until EU and US get ride of trade restrictions and allow them to free trade in international market like WHO
look at Cubans they are very educated and nice people, good life expectantcy and health but US policy on Cuba is destroyed Cuba since last 6 decades!
If US wanted they could help latin americans and make good country but they dont! Everyone in europe is fed up of US polices they support people when they need them and when issue is over they spit them out and I dont think its nice for some people who blindly follow one must think first.
sebvill May 28th, 2007, 01:47 AM I wanted to answer by private message but apparently you cant recieve those.
Its true that the US is behind Europe in helping countries economically. The UE have many programmes such as the FAIR TRADE that help many poor farmers around the World, including Peru. I dont know in other latin countries but in Peru the biggest foreign investor is Spain, followed by Switzerland and Chile while the USA is forth.
In the other hand, I dont know how you see Latin America, but it isnt so poor as many people around the World think. Countries such as Argentina, Chile, Uriguay, Panama and Costa Rica can be seen almost as developed ones. While Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, etc. are more developed than most countries in Africa and Asia, and are developing very fast at present. And well, there are the poor countries such as Bolivia and Nicaragua.
Anyway Latin America hasnt developed because of many things such as corruption, wars and constant change in goverment´s ideologies, but in many countries things are starting to change and you will be surprised by seeing pictures of the cities and towns of this part of the world. Poverty remains high, but decreasing. :) Its a shame South America is the least known continent in the World, even Africa is more popular in Europe and US haha.
Anyway, cheers

i think i have enbaled my messages but im not sure if it worked i dont mind on this thread this relavent i think
US is very far behind than EU and Japan, Japan give loans to whole asia and many dams and projects in asia is funded by Japanese this why Japan is seen as good economic freind they dont ask favour in return like US
EU is similar, they accepted poor eastern european countrys into EU and allow Polish people to come and stay and work in UK and give them oppoutunity to make good life and good country
but US always say first u change your country and idealogy then we help you, this is not fair and is not good treatment, everyone has right to be who they are why everyone has to change themselves to get US help
US always help anyone who is with them, they want to be big boss and control everything, if you want to make country and good leader like Chavez then you are called terrorist and thugs by ameircan congress!!!
today Asia is rising and its doing very well, developed countrys like Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong , Malaysia and Singapore are leading way for Thailand, Veitnam, Indonesia and one big superpower China
thats why people want China to suceed because everyone fed up of US dominance i think so Latin Americans should look China for make country and not US because US just want Latin Ameircan oil and gas, in europe we see only Brazil as good economy in Latin America rest of them dont get much media coverage and seem to be much less developed and poor but that is media propoganda i think so
ps: nice pictures thanks
sebvill May 29th, 2007, 03:32 AM haha ok, but you got to know that Latinamerican businessmen have wet dreams thinking about China. Today China is the main trade partner to Peru. And the idea of Brazil being the best economy in Latinemrica is far from correct, in fact Brazil is one of the countries with the biggest social and economic differences between its inhabitants, still is an economic powerhouse. But Argentina and Chile are way more developed.
Cheers!
