This is a picture I took last Sunday (20th July 2003) of the National Milliennium Monument at Putrajaya. This monument is located within the Taman Persisir Warisan of the Core Island (opposite the Palace Of Justice).

I took this picture from the Seri Wawasan Bridge. ;)

The entire Putrajaya are designed to be bicycle friendly. There are bicycle racks everywhere but unfortunately, not many uses bicycle there. :(

All sidewalks in Putrajaya have pedestrian cum bicycle tracks..... ;)

Central Wetland for boating buffs

WATER-ACTIVITY enthusiasts will have one more venue to head for in Putrajaya once the Lakeside Recreation Centre (LRC) in Central Wetland, Precinct 13, opens tomorrow.

The LRC offers a host of boating activities with canoes, kayaks and paddleboats for hire while the public are also allowed to fish by the shore and from boats.

[b]This is the only area in Putrajaya where the public are allowed to fish. Normally, anglers are only allowed to fish during the biennial angling competition.

A total of 31 species of fish thrive in the lake including the tilapia, local and African catfish, jelawat, lampam Jawa, lampam sungai, sebarau, tebal sisik, tenggalan, terbol, puyu, ketutu, baung, selat and keli kayu.

Other sea creatures are also seen within the Central Wetland as the Putrajaya Wetland is just a stone’s throw away.

A corner of the LRC accommodates three gazebos that function as BBQ areas while there is a winding jogging trail.

Scattered around the lake are five man-made and well-landscaped islands. Once the facilities are ready, the public will be encouraged to row or paddle here.

One of the 15 two-seater kayaks available for hire at the LRC. Slightly hidden on the right is one of the five man-made islands on the lake.



The LRC has invested in 10 paddleboats; 15 two-seater kayaks; 10 canoes and six three-seater rowing boats for recretional activities.

The LRC is managed by Stagno-VIC, the same company that runs Taman Botani Putrajaya in Precinct 1.

Putrajaya Corporation, the local authority of Putrajaya, owns both the centre and park.

The LRC is seen as complementing the existing facilities at the Putrajaya Lakeclub in Precinct 8 that offers annual memberships.

Putrajaya Wetland public relations, communications and special events officer Junaida Abdullah said the LRC would soon offer a variety of recreation packages for fun outings for the whole family, corporate getaways and private functions.

“We plan to introduce the Fishing Escapade package where fishing will be combined with a BBQ lunch at the gazebo. Or, the public can opt for the one-day Wonders of Wetland package where fishing and canoeing or kayaking will be offered together with a BBQ lunch,” she said.

Also in the pipeline, added Junaida, were a series of camps involving emergency rescue procedures and knotting techniques combined with wetland exploration.

Initially, the LRC will operate between 7am and 7pm. For enquiries, contact the Putrajaya Wetland at 03-8925 3817.

MINDEF and Parliament would definitely remain in KL as KL is still the 'national/official capital city'.

They've just renovated and refurbished the Parliament Building so I don't think they are moving. ;)

Boon to theatre fans in Putrajaya

PERFORMING arts in Malaysia will receive a boost once the Auditorium Block located in the northern wing of the Putrajaya Corporation Complex in Precinct 3 is ready.

A site visit to the Auditorium Block and adjoining Experimental Theatre was arranged recently for the benefit of Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Azizan Zainul Abidin, senior officials and guests Faridah Merican and Joe Hafsham of The Actors Studio fame.

It is Azizan’s contention that a well-planned city like Putrajaya should have a venue for the performing arts.

“A facility like the Auditorium Block will not only encourage people living and working in Putrajaya to appreciate various forms of the performing arts, but also serve as a venue for the development of performing arts, especially since there are a number of universities in the vicinity,” he said.

“Malaysia’s strength lies in its integrated culture, and we intend to keep it alive in Putrajaya,” Azizan said further, adding that cultural shows were often staged at the Agricultural Heritage Park in Precinct 16.

The Auditorium Block stands separately with an annexe block for the Experimental Theatre.

Upon completion, the three remaining blocks of the complex will be utilised for administration and conference purposes.

The tour commenced at the main lobby of the Auditorium Block where an information counter and exhibition area will be set up.

The project, undertaken by AQidea Architect, is expected to be completed in nine months.

The architecture firm is also behind the majestic Palace of Justice fronting the modern complex and the Prime Minister’s Department situated further down the 4.2km Boulevard where the recent National Day parade was held.

During the tour, AQidea Architect principal Ahmad Rozi Abd Wahab briefed the visitors on the project’s progress, which is currently 59% complete.

He explained that the overall concept for the Auditorium Block was futuristic, designed so that performing arts enthusiasts could embark on a surreal journey.

“Our intention is to simulate the act of climbing into a bahtera (ship) and going on a journey complete with a three-dimensional effect using state-of-the-art equipment and technology,” he added.

An escalator will lead from the lobby to the 650-seater auditorium with a modern stage and orchestral pit for 45 musicians.

A separate entrance has been designed for VIPs who will be able to watch the performances, with maximum privacy, from an elevated deck.

A bridge connects the audito-rium to the 338-seater Experi-mental Theatre.

The medium-scale amphitheatre allows for performances to be viewed from an angle of 270°.

A museum housing local artefacts will be built below the multi-purpose Experimental Theatre.

“Both the Auditorium Block and Experimental Theatre will offer individual support service in the form of food outlets, washrooms, lifts and access,” Ahmad Rozi said.

Both Faridah and Joe agreed that the Auditorium Block and Experimental Theatre would offer another choice of space for the performing arts targeted at a different audience.

They suggested that the stretch of the Boulevard in front of the block be utilised for street theatre.

Interest in the Auditorium Block is mounting with organisations already placing tentative bookings for performances and shows.

Well, the convention centre looks really grand and futuristic for sure, but, dont you think it is kindda misplaced, surrounding just undeveloped land, I guess it takes time!..

But, I certainly dig the bridge, so futuristic, will be more glad if it is Malaysian design? Is it?

That would be Seri Perdana Complex......the residential complex of Malaysia's PM. ;)

This is quite an old picture as the vegetation around the place seems 'new'. :D

This is a rare view because this is the protocol entrance of the building which is different from the visitor's entrance. Previously the residence of Tun Dr. Mahathir (ex-PM).......now of course PM Abdullah Badawi (I think he still hasn't moved in yet) :D

I doubt there is an observation deck in the Millennium Monument... There are no windows at the top of the structure!

Putrajaya sure seems to be evolving into M'sia's showcase city.. As Sze mentioned to me, the place is changing by the day.. And i thought i'd seen Putrajaya when i was there 2 years ago! Boy, would i need an update! :D
