Centre sanctions Rs. 416-cr. package to develop infrastructure at KIMS

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the Union government has sanctioned a Rs. 416-crore special package for development of infrastructure at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and hospital here.

Bhoomi puja

Mr. Shettar was speaking after performing bhoomi puja for an administrative building to be built at a cost of Rs. 12 crore. He also inaugurated the purified drinking water facility on the KIMS premises on Sunday evening.

Mr. Shettar said that under the special package, the State government was required to bear 20 per cent of the total cost.

The Chief Minister said that steps will be taken to improve the infrastructure at KIMS so that it could increase intake for undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses to 250 and 150 respectively.

Mr. Shettar appealed to doctors to develop a habit of serving in rural areas. “If government is forced to frame a rule in this regard, then their service will lose its value,” he said.

Recalling the earlier fight for the development of KIMS, led by journalist Patil Puttappa, in which he also took part, Mr. Shettar said the dream of developing KIMS was materialising now.

He lauded the initiatives taken by KIMS Director Vasantha Kamath in giving transparent administration and appealed to the public and members of various associations to give her support.Inaugurating the Generic Drug Store on KIMS premises, Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas said that the Karnataka government was the first in the country to come up with the idea of a generic drug store. “All 33 district hospitals in the State will soon have generic drug stores where medicines will be available at subsidised rates,” he said.

Rural service

Mr. Ramdas said that by next year, Karnataka would have 6,022 MBBS seats and 3,100 seats for postgraduate medical courses.

He said that students who completed MBBS would have to compulsorily serve in rural areas for one year and they would be paid a salary of Rs. 39,900 a month. Similarly, students who completed B.Sc. Nursing would be paid Rs. 14,900 a month during their service in rural areas. “We will be issuing an order shortly in this regard,” he said.

Mr. Ramdas said that from 2013-14, the Union government would fix a duration of six years and six months for the MBBS course.

Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated the first floor of the trauma ward while Pralhad Joshi, MP, inaugurated the indoor stadium.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Kamath spoke on development works taken up at KIMS and sought additional funds for other works.

The Chief Minister was felicitated on the occasion.

Integrated healthcare centres in three cities



Minister for Medical Education S.A. Ramdas has said that centres for integrated healthcare will be launched in three cities, to offer allopathy, ayurveda, homoeopathy naturopathy treatment and music therapy under one roof.

Victoria and Vani Vilas hospitals in Bangalore, Cheluvamba hospital in Mysore and the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences , Hubli, will have the facilities, on a trial basis.

The process of setting up the centres would begin on August 14. The out-patient services would be launched on November 1, the Minister said here on Wednesday.

Each centre would have 37 staff, including doctors.

The government had sanctioned Rs. 1.22 crore towards the project and the recruitment process would begin shortly.

Mr. Ramdas said integrated healthcare was popular in the U.S. and China.

Medical college

On the delay in handing over land for setting up the Railway Medical College here, Mr. Ramdas said the government had offered 20 acres to the Railways. “As per the new Medical Council of India guidelines, this is adequate for setting up a medical college.”

Dharwad awaits a new DC

Dharwad: With Dharwad deputy commissioner Darpan Jain being transferred to Bangalore as the joint secretary to chief minister Jagadish Shettar, search is on for a suitable replacement in Dharwad.

People are waiting for chief minister Shettar to appoint an upright official for the post so that the ongoing development works in the district come to a logical end.

Soon after Shettar took over as the chief minister, Jain's transfer orders were issued without finding a successor. He handed over the charge last Sunday to zilla panchayat chief executive officer Meghannavar and left for Bangalore.

In the absence of a regular deputy commissioner, who coordinates the functioning of all the departments in the district, governance and development works are likely to suffer and hence the anxiety among people.

According to highly placed sources, government is mulling over appointing IAS officer Reju who is now deputy commissioner, Udupi as the DC.

Other names doing rounds are Chitradurga deputy commissioner Vipul Bansal and Bidar deputy commissioner Sameer Shukla.

In the last one year, Dharwad district saw officers in key positions being shifted. ZP CEO C Shikha, DC Darpan Jain and HDMC commissioner K V Trilokchandra-all young IAS officers- had formed a good team and took over several development works besides streamlining the administration. Shikha was the first to go followed by Trilokchandra and Darpan Jain.

In the meantime, superintendent of police R Dileep was transferred to Mysore and additional commissioner of public instruction B V Kulkarni and DDPI Anand were also shifted, resulting in a sort of vacuum in the administration.

With elections to the state assembly just 10 months away, people of the district are hoping that the ongoing works will get over during the regime of the present government. Onus is now on the new CM to ensure that a set of good officers continue the development works at a rapid pace.

In the police department too, the post of deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) is vacant with the retirement of incumbent DCP, Batakurki.

There are indications of present police commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad being replaced by DIG Padmanayana.

Rlys game for 2 of 3 proposals to minimise green damage

The Hubli-Ankola railway project has cleared another hurdle with the Railways accepting two of the three recommendations of a committee comprising engineers of the Indian Institute of Science.

The committee had been set up to suggest alternative routes for the project in the wake of severe opposition from greens to the construction of the key railway line as it would harm the biodiversity of the Western Ghats. It had submitted its report on December 9, 2011 to the central empowered committee.

Officials of the South Western Railway in Hubli said that no spot in Uttara Kannada district through which the alternative line passes has been included in the list of world heritage sites by Unesco. Hence, there was no hurdle, as of now, for the railway project, they said. Railway sources said they could take alternative measures to prevent damage to the environment and harm to wildlife, even if these spots were included in the biodiversity heritage list.

The IISc team proposes that the route of the railway line from 76th km to 86th km be changed and the tracks laid alongside the National Highway-63 on this stretch.

Change of route

The report also suggests that the route be changed from 86th km to 100th km that passes through dense forest. It has also recommended that the stretch from the 114th km to the 134th km be changed as that is prone to landslides.

While the department has accepted the first two recommendations, it is not game to the third one as it involves building a 12-km tunnel through the stretch mentioned in the third recommendation. A 12.2-metre elephant corridor is coming up on this stretch, thus negating the possibility of constructing the tunnel on 60 hectares. Bypassing this land would increase the tunnel length by 208 metres and an escalation of cost by Rs 181.49 crore, said Railway authorities. A meeting was held in Bangalore on December 31, 2011, chaired by the additional chief secretary, to discuss the committee report.

NOC sought

The principal secretary to the State department of infrastructure has written to the union ministry of environment and forests and the State government seeking a no objection certificate for the project, in the light of the Railways accepting the report of the committee of the IISc engineers.

Meanwhile, environmentalist Jagadish Krishnaswami said the Aghanashini and Dandeli reserve forests were home to the Anashi leopard park, panthers, elephants, several species of monkeys and reptiles.

The forests also house several flora species. Hence, these areas should be included in the heritage list, Krishnaswami said, adding that he had written to Unesco in this regard.

ಗುರುವಾರ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಈ ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ ಮೇಯರ್, ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ನಿರಂತರ ನೀರು ಯೋಜನೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಮಹಾನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗೆ ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಡಬೇಕು. ಯೋಜನೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಖಾಸಗೀಯವರಿಗೆ ವಹಿಸಬಾರದೆಂಬ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಯ ಷರತ್ತಿಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಸಮ್ಮತಿ ನೀಡಿದೆ ಎಂದರು.

ನಿರಂತರ ನೀರು ಯೋಜನೆಯ 8 ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿ ಇನ್ನುಳಿದ 59 ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಜನೆ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆ ಕುರಿತು ಸರ್ವೇ ನಡೆಸಿರುವ ಟಾಟಾ ಕನ್ಸಲ್ಟನ್ಸಿ , 850 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ಅಂದಾಜು ವೆಚ್ಚದ ವರದಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಕಳೆದ ಐದಾರು ತಿಂಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರಕಾರವೂ ಸರ್ವೇ ನಡೆಸಿ, ಅಂದಾಜು 1,337 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ವರದಿ ಸಿದ್ದಪಡಿಸಿತ್ತು.

ಟಾಟಾ ಕನ್ಸಲ್ಟನ್ಸಿ ನೀಡಿರುವ ವರದಿ ಆಧಾರದ ಹಿನ್ನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ತಂಡ ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ, ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ನಡೆಸಿತು. ಬಿಓಟಿ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಯೋಜನೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಗೆ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ತಂಡ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ತೋರಿತಾದರೂ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮ್ಮತಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿ ಹಿನ್ನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಯೇ ನಿರಂತರ ನೀರು ಯೋಜನೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕರ ಭಾರ ಬೀಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಮೇಯರ್ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ವಿಶ್ವಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಹಾಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಹಾನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಯೂ ಅಂದಾಜು ವೆಚ್ಚದ ಶೇ. 10ರಷ್ಟು ಹಣ ಪಾವತಿಸಲಿದೆ. ವಿಶ್ವಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್*ನಿಂದ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಹಣ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ನಂತರ ಕೆಯುಡಿಎಫ್*ಸಿ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಯ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರು.

ಈಗಿರುವ ನೀರಿನ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲವನ್ನೇ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಇನ್ನುಳಿದ 59 ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳಿಗೆ ನಿರಂತರ ನೀರು ಸರಬರಾಜು ಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಸದ್ಯ ಸರಬರಾಜಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ. 50ರಷ್ಟು ನೀರು ಸೋರಿಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಸೋರಿಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ನೀರು ತಡೆದಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನುಳಿದ ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳಿಗೆ ಸರಬರಾಜು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಹಾಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳಿಗೆ ನಿರಂತರ ನೀರು ಯೋಜನೆ ಜಾರಿಗೊಂಡಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋರಿಕೆ ನೀರು ತಾನಾಗಿಯೇ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಅವಳಿ ನಗರದ ಎಂಟು ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿ ತ್ವರಿತವಾಗಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಏಳೆಂಟು ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳಿಗೆ ನಿರಂತರ ನೀರು ಯೋಜನೆ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಜಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಜನದಟ್ಟಣೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿರುವ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸರ್ವೇ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದು , ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಶೀಘ್ರ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಎಲ್ಲ ವಾರ್ಡ್*ಗಳಿಗೆ ಯೋಜನೆ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಗೊಂಡಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ನಲ್ಲಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಬಂದ್ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುವುದು. ಮನೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೇ ಗುಡಿಸಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ಜನತೆಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳ ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿನ ಉದ್ಯಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಲ್ಲಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

Ya I know. What it is 60lakh is the starting price. Thats why I said for 60lakhs there are many apartments in Mangalore and its common nowadays.
When I mean common price, Its the price in market for ordinary apartments..
We have Apartments whose pre launch price was 1.2 cr(Plama oceanic). Apartments like Planet SKS and Inland Windsor are nearing 2cr..

Godrej Avalon pre launch price was 4500per/sqft. No Idea of Rahja Waterfront the most prestigious project of Mangalore. I am sure will beat the rest.

Hubli: If renovation work of Rajnagar cricket ground gets completed soon, Hubli citizens will enjoy glimpses of their favourite cricketers during the Ranji Trophy matches .

After the renovation and construction work of Raj Nagar cricket stadium is completed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will visit the stadium, inspect the facilities in ground and decide on giving a green signal to host Ranji Trophy cricket matches.

Renovation work in Raj Nagar Cricket Stadium is going at a steady pace and is expected to be ready within two months. The rehabilitation is for 15 acres of land in Raj Nagar, situated on the outskirts of the city. The stadium space has been given to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) by government on lease.

The stadium is being renovated under a budget of Rs 73 lakh and the ground is being renovated under Rs10 lakh budget. For Ranji Trophy cricket aficionados, Raj Nagar Cricket Stadium, with 80-feet-height and 100-feet-width, is bigger than Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore .

Stadium renovation responsibility has been taken up by KSCA. This move will provide an opportunity for north Karnataka people to watch the Ranji Trophy matches in Hubli itself.

We need ranaji matches and later International Cricket matches, When most of the states in India are hosting International cricket matches in tier 2 cities apart from their capital cities, Karnataka is really lagging behind in this area, only Bengaluru (Chennaswamy Stadium) is hosting cricket matches!

Hope Our Beloved CM will sanction some grants so that the NK people can too enjoy the Intl cricket matches in Hubli.

The Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) has approved the Z-Morh Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir (Rs 2,773 crore), as also the following road projects: Chakeri-Allahbad (Rs 1,283 crore), Hubli-Hopet (Rs 1,330 crore), Rajsamand-Bhilwara (Rs 668 crore), Handia-Varanasi (Rs 909 crore), Kasgipur-Sitarganj (Rs 606 crore) and Jodhpur-Pali (Rs 333 crore). All the projects will be undertaken on a build-operate-transfer (toll) mode except the J&K project, which will be bid out on BOT (annuity) model. Under the latter, mode, the Government pays a certain amount twice a year to the bid winner to develop and operate the project.

The developers compete on the level of annuity they want during the concession period; and developers do not get to keep the toll revenues.

In BOT-toll mode, the developers get to keep the toll revenues for the concession period.

Rs. 8.7-crore link road project on track

The Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority has initiated steps to develop a link road between Gadag Road and Bijapur Road. The preliminary estimate of the project is Rs. 8.7 crore.

Chairman of HDUDA Lingaraj Patil told Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here on Saturday that 0.6 km of road had already been laid.

Mr. Shettar visited the project site near Oxford College on Kusugal Road on his way to Navalgund.

Mr. Patil said the 1.6-km long and 30-m wide link road would ease traffic congestion. The estimated cost covered that of land acquisition and construction of service roads.

Proposal

The HDUDA chairman said that as an extension of this project, a 2.5-km stretch had been proposed between Sulla Road and Solapur Road, at a cost of Rs. 14.3 crore.

He appealed to the Chief Minister to help sort out some technical problems with the project. “If Mr. Shettar takes up the issue [at the Cabinet meeting], gives clearance and also holds discussions with farmers on land acquisition, it would be easier for the authority to implement it.”

Luxury complex



A 13-storey luxury apartment complex with facilities such as biometric entrance is all set to come up in Hubli. Founder and CEO of the Rotson Group Pradeep Raikar told presspersons here that the project would be completed in 27 months. He said the apartment complex would have 116 flats, as well as a a temple, gymnasium, amphitheatre, indoor games court and 48-hour generator backup. — Staff Correspondent

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that he does not approve acquisition of fertile land for industrial development but will give priority to framing a land acquisition policy that will support industrial development through acquisition of barren land.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Industrial Estate developed by Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation at Gamanagatti village in Hubli taluk on Saturday evening.

Trainees at the GT&TCs have a bright future: Shettar
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the State government will take steps to set up Government Tool Room and Training Centres (GT&TCs) in all the districts of the State.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Government Tool Room and Training Centre at the Rayapur Industrial Estate in Hubli on Saturday evening. The GT&TC spread across 8 acres of land, has come up at a cost of Rs. 11 crore.

Mr. Shettar said that 20 GT&TCs in the State were running short- and long-term technical courses and were imparting training to thousands of candidates. The government will soon set up GT&TCs in all the districts, he said.

Elaborating on the significance of the courses offered by GT&TCs and the scope they had in the regional, national and international market, the Chief Minister said that definitely the candidates undergoing training at the GT&TCs will have a bright future.

Mayor Pandurang Patil, Deputy Mayor Bharati Patil, Minister for Small Scale industries Raju Gowda (Narasimha Naik), Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, MP Pralhad Joshi, MLAs S.I. ಭೂಕಂಪ ನಿರೋಧಕ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟಡದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ವೇಳೆ ಜಪಾನ್*ನಿಂದ ತರಿಸಲಾದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಸ್ಪ್ರಿಂಗ್*ಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಪ್ರತೀ ಮನೆಗೆ ಚದರ ಅಡಿಗೆ 4250 ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಬೆಲೆ ನಿಗದಿಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. 1200 ಹಾಗೂ 4000 ಚದರ ಅಡಿಯ ಮನೆಗಳು ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ.

14ನೇ ಮಹಡಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಈಜುಕೊಳ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಥರ್ಮಲ್ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿ ಈಜುಕೊಳದ ನೀರು ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿರುವಂತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ನೀರು ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ ಘಟಕ ಅಳವಡಿಸುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದರು.

ಕಟ್ಟಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಪೆಂಟಾಹೌಸ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಈಜುಕೊಳ, ಐಷಾರಾಮಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಮನೆಗಳ ಮೌಲ್ಯ ತಲಾ 1 ಕೋಟಿ 78 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂಪಾಯಿ ನಿಗದಿಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಅಂತಸ್ತಿನ ನಂತರ ಶೇ.12ರಷ್ಟು ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿ ಹಣ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. 56 ಸಾವಿರ ಚದರ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗಲಿರುವ ಈ ವಸತಿ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣದಲ್ಲಿ 150 ಕಾರುಗಳ ಪಾರ್ಕಿಂಗ್*ಗೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಬಯೋಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ ಭದ್ರತಾ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಅಳವಡಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಮನೆಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರ ಕಣ್ಸನ್ನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೆರಳು ಮುದ್ರೆಯಿಂದ ಮಾತ್ರ ತೆರೆಯುವ ಬಾಗಿಲು ಅಳವಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

The truck terminal at the Belur Industrial Area, near here, is expected to be ready for use by March.

It has been constructed by D. Devaraj Urs Truck Terminal Corporation Ltd. at a cost of Rs. 7.82 crore, and would be the first truck terminal in north Karnataka and the second in the State.

The first one was inaugurated in Mysore recently. The terminal is coming up on eight acres beside the main road of the industrial area.

It is expected to provide a safe and well-equipped parking facility for trucks and other heavy vehicles entering the industrial area.

At present, these vehicles are being parked on the roadside and the drivers lack proper facilities.
Unsystematic parking of vehicles is also creating traffic problems. Govind Tejwadekar, engineer in-charge of the project, said the truck terminal could accommodate 183 vehicles and 40 trailers at a time.

The terminal has a cafeteria, and a dormitory that can accommodate 100 drivers.Space “Space has been provided for a petrol station and a police station. Attention has also been given to ensure greenery. As many as 120 shade giving saplings have been planted and a garden is being developed on the terminal's premises,” Mr. Tejwadekar said.
Work on the terminal commenced in September 2010 and was expected to be completed in a year.

Mr. Tejwadekar said that the actual works started only by March last year as the site selected for the project was slushy.
“It took around six months to fill the land. Besides, certain changes in the original plan were made at the last minute. This delayed the completion of the work,” he said.

User-fee
It has been planned to maintain the terminal by collecting user-fee . Sources said a final decision would be taken upon completion of the work.

State to get five info, communication tech centres


The State government has set out on an ambitious plan to develop five cities across the State - Gulbarga, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum, Mangalore and Mysore - as national centres of information and communication technologies (ICT) by 2020.

The task has been entrusted to the eight-member Karnataka ICT Group 2020. The ICT Group has T V Mohandas Pai, chairman of Manipal Global Education Services, as its chairman. B V Naidu, chairman and CEO of Sagitaur Ventures India, is the vice-chairman. Among the other members of the Group are Sadagopan and Sudip Banerjee - IIIT Bangalore Directors; Sanjay Nayak, CEO and MD of Tejas Networks.

The airport, being developed on a PPP model in Gulbarga, is likely to be operational next month. The city is also making strides towards becoming a technology hub. An Apparel Park and IT Park are already being developed in the city. There is a proposal to set up a Tur Industry Cluster in the city, besides an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). The city is already home to a Central university. All these are likely to create huge employment opportunities for people in the region.

The ICT Group is expected to work towards increasing the annual revenue from ICT industries from the present Rs 1.35 lakh crore to Rs 4 lakh crore by 2020; increase employment in ICT sector from eight lakh to 20 lakh; create/help incubate 1,000 start-ups/entrepreneur-driven companies. Experts have predicted a 15 per cent annual growth in the ICT industry and an increase in the State’s share in the global ICT market.

The other goals before the ICT Group include making Bangalore the global city of choice in ICT; suggesting policy initiatives to promote entrepreneurship in the five national ICT centres; and setting up incubation facilities there.

Formed in partnership with Singapore, Japan, Australia, France, Taiwan and Germany to accelerate business cooperation and entrepreneurship, it has also been entrusted with the task of creating centres of excellence in major universities of the State.

HUBLI: With monsoon rain catching up, woes of residents of Sadashiv colony, Vinutana colony and Chetana colony are increasing. For, these areas do not have proper roads and gutters. Many of the interior roads in these colonies are not tarred and they have become muddy, uneven and slippery due to rain.

When it rains, water mixed with garbage enters compounds of houses in the area. Potholes get filled with water. Those who use these roads risk limb and life. The roads are especially risky for children and senior citizens.

Speaking to TOI, Shek Ibrahim of Vinutana Colony said he is living in the area since the past three years, and the state of the roads has always been the same. "It worsens during the rainy season, and we find it difficult to step out of the house," he added.

Heaps of garbage is dumped by the roadside and on empty sites in Sadashiv colony and Vinutana colony, but the corporation does not take any steps to ensure regular cleaning of these areas. Abdul Rahman of Sadashiv colony said because of garbage mounds, stray pig and dog menace has increased in the colony.

Tar roads soon: Corporator

Speaking to TOI, area corporator Kallakuntla Suvarna said that Vinutana Colony came under the HDMC fold only about five year ago. The corporation has provided other facilities to the area with limited funds.

Tender process for building roads and gutters in the colony has been completed.

Sadashiv Colony roads will be tarred in the coming days with a cost of Rs 20 lakh.

Road metalling work is almost complete in Vinutana colony, for which the corporation has spent Rs 8 lakh.

Tar roads will be laid with next year's funds, he added.

HUBLI: Pig population is growing out of proportion in Hubli but the corporation has not been able to come out with any effective solution to the problem.

Last week mayor Pandurang Patil issued a warning to pig owners that their pigs will be shot down if found straying. However, pig owners do not seem to have taken the shoot-at-sight order seriously. So, pigs continue to move around freely on the city roads.

"The corporation has issued instructions to us to take our pigs off the road. But, where do we move the pigs? Has the corporation provided us an alternative site where we can leave the animals? If it provides, we will certainly shift the pigs there," said a pig owner, who did not wish to be named.

Also, the idea of shooting stray pigs has not gone down well with some animal welfare organizations. Condemning HDMC's move, Meghraj Kawad, president, Hubli Pinjarapol Saunstha said: "All animals have the right to live, and the corporation cannot snatch this basic right away from pigs. The pig owners should be persuaded to take their livestock off the road, and more importantly, the HDMC should provide them an alternative place to leave the pigs."

It is not the first time that the corporation is issuing shoot-at-sight order for stray pigs. It was implemented once in 2005-06 too, but the corporation had to withdraw the order after a freak accident, in which a bullet, aimed at a pig, hit a passerby and injured him. So, if the corporation has to execute its order this time, it needs to be extra careful. "Of course, we will take all precautionary measures this time and ensure that such mishaps do not repeat," the mayor told TOI.

Pandurang Patil said they have not yet embarked 0n the drive to kill pigs because they want to give sufficient time to pig owners to take away their animals from roads. "This kind of drive will be carried out only after proper consultation with all the stakeholders," the mayor added. He also appealed to residents to cooperate with the corporation to keep the areas clean and garbage free.

Children more vulnerable

Meantime, pig menace continues unabated in the twin cities of Hubli and Dharwad, posing problems to pedestrians and motorists alike.

Children are the most vulnerable group. Last week, a six-year-old boy was bitten by stray pigs and was admitted to KIMS hospital with severe injuries.

There have been several cases of motorists getting injured in their effort to avoid pigs on roads, said traffic police.

‘Convert State highway into national highway’

Pralhad Joshi, Dharwad MP, urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways C.P. Joshi to consider a proposal to convert the 111-km State highway between Annigeri and Ramanagaram that passes through Navaglund, Hebasur, Sulla and Dharwad into a National Highway.

According to a release issued here, Mr. Joshi, in a letter to the Union Minister, urged him to consider the proposal under a project of developing 85,000 km of national highways under the 12th Plan, which also included converting some of the State highways into national highways.

Boosting development

Mr Joshi said that if the road was converted into a National Highway, it would allow overall development of the region.

“The road will provide connectivity to four other National Highways, NH-63 (Ankola-Gooty), NH-217 (Bijapur-Hubli), NH-4 (Pune-Bangalore) and NH-4A (Belgaum-Panaji), thereby opening up heritage centres like Hampi, Badami and Pattadakal and others for tourists.

Increasing tourism

It will also increase road connectivity to tourists spots in Goa, which in turn would boost the tourism industry in the northern parts of Karnataka”, Mr. Joshi said.

He also said he had already brought the proposal to the notice of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar during his recent visit to Hubli and appealed to the Chief Minister to urge the Union government to approve the proposal.

State Government held Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation (KHDC) has opened up its commercial complex 'Priyadarshini Nekar Bhavan' at Hubli for office space. The corporation has been calling for interested bidders.
Located at Vidyanagar, Hubli, which has been the focal location for various state and national level events, the linear building with basement parking is segmented by three volumes, two service cores and one central entry. Its two balconies act as green space.

After informing the bus conductor left Me in kittur and went to hubli.
Dear sir,
I Girish.S.Yaligar took the journy ticket from Belgaum to Hubli of Samarat Bus Services,Belgaum (ticket no : 0208858201001214937 @ 08:41:57 am). After leaving from Baelgaum we came for Kittur (which is situated 20 km before Dharwad). There i went to pass the urine by informing the conductor to wait for me for 5 mins and he also said ok for it. Afterwards leaving 2 to 3 mins I came back form toilet and i was shocked that bus left me there only and went way towards Hubli (by asking local peoples who were satnding around me).Suddenly after 5 mins I cought one Govt. bus and came to Hubli, in Hubli i explained the insident which happened with me in deep to Samarat Bus Manager who was working in Hubli point, after hearing to my words, he told me they are not responsible for such insidents and you can file the complaint any where and i asked the conductor name from him to file the case he rejected to give his name.

Zebra searches for more partners

Zebra Technologies is geared up to appoint new channel partners to its bandwagon in B and C class cities across the country. Also, the company is planning to conduct pan-india multiple city event in India.

Sachin Tare, head, India subcontinent, Zebra Technologies said, "This year our plan is to establish our brand in the B and C class cities. We intend to improve our brand presence and market share in these cities and for the same we are evaluating partners in these regions. We are looking at recruiting at least 40-45 partners from IT-ITES business background."

To facilitate its operations, the company has divided the country primarily into five regions which includes West, North East, South 1 (Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh) and South 2 (Kerala and Tamil Nadu). The areas will have regional managers who take care of these markets. Tare said, "We have asked our regional managers to cover at least 2-3 cities in B and C class cities in each region. We have a vertical centric approach in each region." He further added the agenda is towards visibility improvement.

Apart from appointing new partners, the company also intends to conduct various knowledge and product training programs for partners in B and C class cities. The company has already identified cities like Nagpur, Indore, Kolhapur, Pune, Surat, Anand, Mangalore, Hubli, Coimbatore, Cochin, Vizag, Guwahati, Gangtok, Lucknow, Trivandrum, among others, for the same. "This is not the final list, we would be including more cities depending on time and resource availability. We plan to conduct events in these places while will also evaluate partners to be appointed in these markets," informed Tare.

In addition, the company is also conducting a 4 city event in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Delhi for its partners. Tare said, "In these cities, we already have a strong presence and we will be conducting refresher courses for our partners updating them about new products and solutions."

HUBLI: Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) has set up the task force committee to curb the unauthorized layouts in twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.

There was public outcry over the increasing unauthorized layouts in Hubli and Dharwad since few years. Due to rise in unauthorized layouts, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Authority was reportedly finding it difficult to provide basic amenities like road, water and other facilities those who are living in layouts developed by HDUDA.

There has been long standing demand to constitute the task force to keep an eye on the illegal layouts in the twin cities, but the demand fell on deaf ears with no political will among the leaders to deal with unauthorized layout problems. But, now after much dilly-dallying, the government had given its nod to the HDUDA to set up the task force.

Speaking to TOI, Lingaraj Patil, President, HDUDA, said, task force has been set up to take on the illegal layouts in twin cities for the first time in twin cities after many years.

The task force is headed by AC which also consists of HDMC Commissioner, HDUDA Commissioner, Executive Engineer of HESCOM, Tahsildars of Hubli and Dharwad, officials from water board and DCP/ACP.

The task force will hold the official meeting every month to discuss about the action to be taken against the illegal layouts, to avoid any legal hurdles while demolishing illegal layouts, he said.

He said that all the officers including Revenue, Zonal officers of HDMC have to conduct the survey and prepare the list of unauthorized layouts in their respective areas and the list should be presented in the meeting of task force. The first official meeting of the task force will be held on August, 16 in Hubli.

He said, we have already demolished a few illegal layouts in Dharwad and Hubli and also served on notice to nearly 45 people who have designed and developed illegal layouts. In the absence of official task force, we had tough time in handling illegal layouts but now we can easily take on illegal layouts as per the law, he added.

Task force will also decide the next course of action in order to demolish the unauthorized layouts. According to our initial survey, unauthorized layouts come out on around 150 acres of land in twin cities. Officers of Revenue should immediately alert the HDUDA if they come across the unauthorized layouts and HESCOM should not give any power connection to such layouts, he said.

HUBLI: The bridge that connects Vikas Nagar to Rajadhani Colony has no side walls, posing a veritable threat to motorists and pedestrians. There are no retaining walls along the 'nala' or canal too giving snakes and other creatures an easy access to homes nearby.

The nala divides Rajadhani Colony, green garden from Siddalingeshwar Nagar and Vikas Nagar, and the bridge, which connects these areas, is used extensively by residents of all three areas.

Apart from the absence of walls, iron rods protrude on either side of the bridge. Speaking to TOI, a pedestrian said since a lot of schoolchildren use this bridge, the corporation should take safety measures before some one is hurt.

The sewage water flowing through the nala is an added problem. Amit Bandage, a resident of Vikas Nagar, says the stink is unbearable and the nala has become the breeding ground for pigs and mosquitoes.

Unbearable stink

The absence of a retaining wall has also meant a slow increase in the width of the nala. During rains, water from the nala flows into the roads and leaves a trail of filth on the roads.

The condition of the nala has been the same for the last 20 years and the corporation has not taken any measures to construct a compound, said Deshpande, a resident of Vikas Nagar.

HUBLI: Anna Hazare's crusade against corruption seems to have had a deep impact on the residents of Charantimath Garden in Dharwad.

Inspired by Anna's relentless fight against corruption, residents of Charantimath Garden have now decided to rechristen their area as Anna Hazare Nagar.

More than 100 families live in Charantimath Garden Layout, which was named after the developer of the area. The layout was handed over to the corporation a few years ago.

The residents, who actively took part even in the hunger strikes organized by India Against Corruption, have now decided to rename their layout Anna Hazare Nagar. They have already submitted memoranda to the HDMC, deputy commissioner and other authorities for renaming the area. The issue is likely to come up for discussion in the next general body meeting.

Speaking to TOI, Shivayogi Pyatishettar, president of Anna Hazare Residents' Welfare Association, a registered body now, said: "Our main aim is to motivate youngsters and to fight against corruption by deriving inspiration from Anna's works."

Raju Dammalli, a resident, said: "We are really proud of Anna's work. He managed to bring the people together in the country to raise their voice against corruption."

KSFC to fund mega market complex in Dharwad



Mayor Pandurang Patil has said that the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has approached the Karnataka State Financial Corporation (KSFC) to upgrade the supermarket here.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Patil said the HDMC had been sending proposals to the State government since 1984 demanding that the government accept a plan to upgrade the supermarket in Dharwad and sanction funds for the same.

However, the Department of Urban Development had rejected all the proposals, citing technical reasons.

The HDMC has approached the KSFC to fund the project. KFSC officials have accepted the proposal and will construct a mega market complex here. The KSFC will also be made a nodal unit until the loan given to the HDMC for the project is returned. The new project will commence in 15 days and is expected be completed in a year, Mr. Patil said.

The KSFC would not sell the shops, but would put them up for rent, Mr. Patil said, answering a question on the subject.

Vendors would have to pay the rent to the KSFC and only after the debt was recovered would the market complex be handed over to the HDMC for further maintenance, he said.

As Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar holds the Finance portfolio, an appeal would be made to sanction funds for the project at the earliest, he said.

Those present included Deputy Mayor Bharathi Patil, Leader of the Opposition in the HDMC council Dashrath Wali and floor leader Prakash Godbole.

Karnataka to Press Centre for Establishing SC Bench in State

Bangalore, Jul 31: Karnataka would be urging the the Centre for establishing a bench of the Supreme Court in the State, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar said today.

The State Government would also request the Centre to convert the existing circuit benches of the Karnataka High Court in Hubli-Dharward and Gulbarga into permanent benches, the minister said answering a question from Congress member B Ramalinga Reddy in the State Legislative Assembly.
