prashanth.0619r August 2nd, 2012, 06:07 AM DHARWAD: The HDMC has approached the Karnataka State Finance Corporation (KSFC) to upgrade the existing supermarket in Dharwad.
Mayor Pandurang Patil told reporters here on Monday that the HDMC had been sending proposals to the state government since1984 for the development of supermarket but the urban development department was rejecting the proposals citing one reason or the other. The proposal sent recently has also been rejected prompting the HDMC to look for alternative source for funding the project. Accordingly it has approached the KSFC to fund the project and the JSFC has accepted the proposal, Patil said.
The KSFC will also be made a nodal unit till the loan given by them to the HDMC to upgrade the market is returned. The work on new project would commence in next 15 days and is expected to be complete in a year, he added. Shops will be given on rent to businessmen and there will be no sale.

DrYaqoob August 6th, 2012, 04:42 AM
Aug 6, 2012, 05.00AM IST

pavan9741650414 August 6th, 2012, 05:23 AM HDUDA plans mega project for twin cities
Proposal to be sent to government in a month
The Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) is planning a mega infrastructure development project to facilitate the overall growth of the twin cities.
Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, Chairman of HDUDA Lingaraj Patil said the project would be prepared with a vision for ensuring comprehensive development of the twin cities, and the proposal on the same would be sent to the government for approval within a month.
Mr. Patil said the mega project would include development of residential and industrial areas, playgrounds, better road network keeping in mind the future requirements of the growing twin cities.
Residential layouts
Mr. Patil said HDUDA was developing a residential layout by partnering with farmers on about 50 acres of land in Tadasinakoppa village in Hubli taluk. “This is the first of its kind project in north Karnataka where farmers are getting 40 per cent share in the layout after its development”, he said.
The residential layout at Tadasinakoppa would be completed within a month.
Mr. Patil said that HDUDA was also planning another layout on similar lines at Amaragol.
In the wake of the current market trends, the authority had urged the State government to rework the sharing pattern and make it 50:50 instead of 60:40.
Warning to farmers
Mr. Patil also appealed to farmers to be careful while dealing with private builders and developers as there were several cases of farmers being cheated after their farmland was bought. He said he would appeal to farmers to join hands with HDUDA as it would give them a better share.
Mr. Lingaraj Patil spoke at length on his achievements in the first 100 days in office.
He said HDUDA had initiated development of ring road, and construction of Pyramid Meditation Hall at Nruptunga Hill at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore. Fresh survey was being conducted to identify suitable land for developing residential layouts.
Task force formed
According to Mr. Patil, the State government had constituted a task force to check mushrooming of illegal residential layouts. The task force headed by the Assistant Commissioner of the district and comprising officials of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority, police, Hubli-Dharwad Mayor and chairman of HDUDA would be holding its first meeting shortly to chalk out plans to stop illegal residential layouts from coming up.
Donation
Mr. Patil said that HDUDA had decided to donate Rs. 51 lakh to drought relief fund and the cheque would be handed over formally to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in Hubli on Monday. Mr. Shettar will be felicitated by the HDMC on the same day.

Maitravaruna August 6th, 2012, 01:58 PM Proposal to be sent to government in a month
The Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) is planning a mega infrastructure development project to facilitate the overall growth of the twin cities.
mega projects in HD area are most welcome. HUDA should make sure that common people get the housing at affordable prices.
But whenever I think about these mega projects, malls and high rises I cant help wondering how are they going to provide basic facilities to those huge constructions, like water, electricity, drainage and roads because these are the ones which are not taken care usually and already there is huge shortage of water and electricity in K'taka. Its like building without foundation.
Our leaders should give first priority to basic things like water but despite knowing these facts for several decades we continue to be in the same state of affairs too bad, no learning :ohno:

DrYaqoob August 7th, 2012, 04:06 AM Lapses will be viewed seriously, officials told
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has warned officials that they will be held responsible if there is any lapse in implementing development works.
Chairing the Dharwad district-level review meeting on development works here on Monday, Mr. Shettar directed officials to expedite the development works in Dharwad district.
He said that the minimum employment days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act had been increased from 100 to 150.
Officials should make use of it and help people in rural areas reeling under drought, he said.
The Chief Minister directed officials to immediately initiate the multi-village drinking water scheme aimed at providing water to Yarinarayanapur and 14 other villages in Kundagol taluk.
On complaints about fertilizer being sold at higher prices, Mr. Shettar asked officials to address the issue and act against the guilty.
Drought
Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat P.A. Meghannavar briefed the meeting about the drought relief measures in the district.
He said that of the Rs. 4.9 crore released to the district, Rs. 4 crore had been utilised for drinking water.
The administration had chalked out an action plan for utilising Rs. 30 lakh released to each taluk, he said. Mr. Meghannavar said that a Rs. 41-crore proposal for providing water to villages facing scarcity had been sent to the State government. He appealed to the Chief Minister to approve it.
He spoke of several pending projects that required approval from the State government, such as the development of Neersagar reservoir, Sanjeevani Park, construction of Pravasi Soudha, renovation of Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur Kala Bhavan, development of Mansur village, laying of a synthetic track at R.N. Shetty Stadium, community health centres at Kundagol and Navalgund, construction of five raitha samparka kendras, and land acquisition for six-lane road between Hubli-Dharwad.
Police Commissioner K. Ramchandra Rao requested the Chief Minister to sanction more personnel for ensuring law and order in the twin cities.
He sought another police station for Hubli airport and S.M. Krishna Nagar.
Pralhad Joshi, MP; Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, Seema Masuti, MLAs; Mohan Limbikai, MLC; Adiveppa Manami, zilla panchayat president; and Pandurang Patil, Hubli-Dharwad Mayor, spoke at the meeting.
Darpan Jain, Joint Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sameer Shukla, Deputy Commissioner, Mahanthesh Bilagi, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Y.S. Patil, HDMC Commissioner, were present.

DrYaqoob August 7th, 2012, 04:11 AM An overwhelmed Shettar owes it all to people of twin cities
The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation accorded a poura sanmana (civic honour) to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here on Monday.
Speaking at the felicitation, Mr. Shettar said he would make all efforts for the overall development of the twin cities.
Mr. Shettar, who was overwhelmed by the felicitation, recalled his association with city. “This felicitation is not for me, but for the people of Hubli-Dharwad as they are the ones who blessed me,” he said. The Chief Minister said he was not for organising a grand felicitation when the State was reeling under drought. “I would be happy to receive people with problems rather than bouquets and garlands. I know that there are lots of expectations from me. I will try my best to fulfil them,” he said.
Mr. Shettar recalled his uncle Sadashiv Shettar’s influence on him. He also remembered his father S.S. Shettar’s association with the people of the city and the love and affection he got from them.
He said that the former Union Minister Ananth Kumar and the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa were responsible for his entry into politics.
He said there should be no politics when it came to development and this helped him maintain good rapport with his opponents.
Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chairman of Legislative Council Veeranna Mattikatti, Pralhad Joshi, MP, Hubli-Dharwad Mayor Pandurang Patil, and Srinivas Mane, MLC, spoke. A host of elected representatives participated in the programme.

prashanth.0619r August 7th, 2012, 08:51 AM HUBLI: Chief minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday said strict instructions had been given to all the officers involved in drought relief work to visit the affected areas falling in their jurisdiction and give an accurate report about the severity of the drought.
Speaking to reporters after attending a review meeting of drought relief works taken up in Dharwad district, Shettar said officers should visit affected areas to take the stock of situation instead of giving mere statistics about the drought situation.
"I expect every officer to visit drought-affected area and give me clear picture. I have even asked the deputy chief ministers to review the drought relief works. I have already visited Koppal and plan to visit Bijapur soon to check on the implementation of relief works," he added.
Listing out the measures taken by the government to tackle drought in state, he said the government had taken a decision to waive crop loans of up to Rs 25,000 taken by the farmers in cooperative banks.
"There is also a plan to pressure the central government to waive crop loans taken by farmers in nationalized banks. I will soon send a proposal to the union agricultural minister in this regard," he said
When asked about cloud seeding in the state, the chief minister said: "Though there were doubts about the success of cloud seeding among the leaders of the opposition party, we have decided to carry out cloud seeding. The irrigation department has been given the responsibility of finalizing the formalities to carry out cloud seeding."

Bangalore, Aug 8 (PTI): Karnataka has urged the Union government to sanction for setting up an Indian Institute of Techonology in the state at the earliest. Higher Education Minister C T Ravi in a letter to Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said Karnataka is an ideal place to establish an IIT as it is a hitech hub where a majority of IT activity is concentrated. The state also topped the countrys total software exports in the last fiscal, he said. "Karnataka has always been at the forefront of industrial growth in India and the government will provide land and other infrastructure facilities for establishment of an IIT in the state," Ravi said. The minister said government has also initiated various steps to reform higher education and many technical institutions have taken advantage of this significant science resource in changing the scientific scenario. He noted that Karnataka has been requesting for sanction of an IIT for since 2006 and received acknowledgments stating that the matter would be looked into. Ravi said government has established several organizations and institutions to provide infrastructural support to private sector enterprises, "which is a significant move in this direction." Software Technology Parks established in other upcoming cities like Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwar play a big role in encouraging this industry, Ravi said.

pavan9741650414 August 10th, 2012, 05:04 AM Delhi corporation takes a leaf out of HDMC book
HUBLI: The state government is dilly-dallying over extending round-the-clock water supply scheme to all 67 wards of Hubli-Dharwad. But still, the ambitious project caught the attention of Delhi Jal Board (DJB). The 24x7 water scheme has been implemented in eight wards of the twin cities as a pilot project.
A delegation led by water board officials of DJB on Thursday met HDMC commissioner, mayor and Hubli Water Board officers and returned with tips to implement the scheme in Delhi. To put an end to water problems, HDMC had implemented 24x7 scheme in eight wards -- four each in Hubli and Dharwad -- as a pilot project four years ago. The scheme has been implemented in wards 27, 29, 30, 32 in Hubli, while those in Dharwad include wards 8, 9, 10, 11.
HDMC is waiting for financial sanction to extend the same to all 67 wards. The news of pilot project's success reached DJB when the same was discussed at a meeting of water board officials. The Centre had convened the meeting a couple of months ago to discuss various schemes implemented across the country so they are implemented elsewhere too.

pavan9741650414 August 11th, 2012, 05:19 AM Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation-run info kiosks are a dud
HUBLI: The setting up of kiosks to disseminate information about civic services and about north Karnataka has failed to serve the purpose.
HDMC had in 2008-09 installed kiosks at prime locations to keep the common man informed about the twin cities and north Karnataka, its services and facilities, nearby tourist places (complete with map).
It cost Rs 8.61 lakh for the civic body to install seven kiosks at airport, the commissioner's office in Hubli and Dharwad, and its zonal offices. But most of them are defunct in the last eight months. Reason: no update of info in the last two years.
Data needing updations include the names of officers of various departments, list of zonal officers, services relating to tax, revenue and other departments, water tariff, property tax, contact numbers of departments, the names of elected representatives.
"Lack of updations has prompted HDMC to stop the service of kiosks," said a zonal officer, on condition of anonymity.
"We get disturbed while working when people repeatedly ask about updated information at the kiosks set up at our zonal offices. We thought of stopping the functioning of kiosks as the data has not been updated in the last two years. But we will resume their services once the data is updated," he added.
When contacted, mayor Pandurang Patil said the work of updating has been outsourced to a Bangalore-based IT company.
"We have asked them to keep all the kiosks updated. But it is not happening. I will remind them about this so that updation is done at the earliest," he added.
"According to the data in kiosks, Venkatesh Mestri is still the mayor, even though his term has ended two years ago. Also, the contacts of many offices and the names of officers are wrong. HDMC should update the data for the benefit of people," said Guru Joshi, a businessman, highlighting the urgency to do the same.

pavan9741650414 August 11th, 2012, 05:22 AM New Hubli railway station to be inaugurated soon
‘Work on it has accelerated in the last three months’
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Hubli Division of South Western Railway Praveen Kumar Mishra said here on Friday that the new Hubli railway station building would have a floral clock with a diameter of 7 metres at the entrance.
Mr. Mishra who has been transferred and will be handing over the charge to the new DRM on Monday, told presspersons here that one drum clock had been provided at the entrance.
He said work on the new station had speeded up in the last three months.
“The work of converting two sidings into platform no. 1 and 2 including extension of platforms has been completed in all respect, he said.
Mr. Mishra said work on the booking office, air-conditioned waiting room and waiting rooms for men and women had been completed. He said the new station would have a tourist facilitation centre, a cloakroom, lifts and escalators, a state-of-the-art food plaza, six retiring rooms, 40 dormitories and other facilities. Mr. Mishra said the new station had sufficient circulating area apart from separate parking area for four-wheelers and three-wheelers.
“The North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has agreed to ply city buses up to the circulating area of the station building and a formal agreement would be signed with the corporation soon,” he said.
Mr. Mishra said that to expedite the work on the pedestrian subway at the station, the Hubli division had taken over the work from the construction wing.
Mr. Mishra said that a detailed report on the progress of work on the station had been sent to the Railway Board and added that its formal inauguration is likely to be held soon.

Look its u who poked in...take it in the same manner u said..I know the fact that ppl here don't travel by air much..may be 1 % travel..but the sceanrio for Mlore is different..most ppl travel to dubai there..in every house u will find atleast one member who has worked or is working in dubai...n also the proximity to kerala which is know to everyone of its gulf association...n coming to domestic..all the crowd is of manipal institutes...
but scenario changes when u come to NW karnataka.. most ppl either go to blore or pune for so called white colar jobs..but no one will prefer to take flights unless its some emergency or some high management folks who can afford..anyone can reach from blore or pune to H-D-B within a night..so y go for flights..hence the crowd for air travel is less..
when you compare the population...H-D most of them r localites..migrated ppl here r less..in mlore those who travel by air are those who have either come to manipal..or after making money in Dubai..irrespective whether they r from Dk district..they buy some hectares of land near by Mlore and settle down...
so scenarios differ my freind..
mangalore mania August 11th, 2012, 09:07 AM WTF!! are you kidding All domestic passengrs are from Manipal?? Manipal dont even comprise of 5% of traffic.. Who said Mangalore dont have domestic passengers. I never bought Mangalore into this discussion.. Its you who started

As we all know and discussed many times before, Karnataka Government has acquired 600 acres of land and given to Airport Autority of India for the construction of International Airport which includes the international standard run way, there after we can see many domestic flights and international flights. So until that time we will be having less flights from hubli. I read from this forum only, Spice jet and Pegausis have shown interest in starting their services from Hubli. Hope that realise soon.
I also felt your question was not in good intention, it was like showing us inferior to others. So there should always discussions in good spirit and interest. We are all belong to one state and one country. If you have any questions related to twin cities you are welcome, we all discuss and help together.

We are all belong to one state and one country. If you have any questions related to twin cities you are welcome, we all discuss and help together.
Airport works are definietly on.Nothing can stop hubli growing into a full fledged second international airport of our state.Belgaum airport might close down once hubli takes over.Hubli and belgaum airport are too close.Just 90 Km apart, yet Hubli and belgaum both had flights before KF plunged into crisis.Potential is definitely there,to tap the fullest belgaum might have to shut down its airport in future.

It is growing at the moment, basic infra is slowly falling in place- New bus terminal, railway terminal and an airport.Social infra like malls are coming up,recreational spots like lakes gardens etc are all spruced up.Few new educational institutes are also being added like KLE etc.IT SEZ is yet to get approval by GOI.Hubli will prove to be a good place for start ups in my opinion.
Thanks MM
DrYaqoob August 12th, 2012, 03:28 AM CM wants monorail for his hometown
HUBLI: With Jagadish Shettar at the helm of the state, the long proposed monorail project between Hubli and Dharwad is set to become a reality.
"We are planning several components to control traffic in the CM's hometown, including the introduction of monorail and Bus Rapid Transport System," said Darpan Jain, former Dharwad deputy commissioner and joint secretary to the chief minister. Hubli-Dharwad mayor Panduranga Patil said the CM is seriously considering the monorail as an answer to traffic woes in the twin cities, and discussions are on at the secretariat level regarding survey and cost estimation. "The project will reduce travel time and will also traffic congestion," he said.
Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation commissioner YS Patil said: "If the government sanctions the project in the next one or two months, it will take 3-4 years to implement it."

JS must seriously take up such projects when he is at the helm of affairs.Approve and sanction funds before next elections,we can never predict political weather in karnataka.I want BRTS and monorail to kick start simultaneously. Hubli-Dharwad-Belgaum region needs to balance bangalore region in a big way.
mangalore mania August 12th, 2012, 10:23 AM Such projects need more capital investment and tier II cities cant afford and private players wont be ready to risk here.. Mono rail survey was sanctioned by Yedyurappa during his first budget and Sky bus was also proposed..
If this project is materializes in HD then it will be great boost for the city.. Its wait and watch..
Lets see what all he will do in his remaining one year..
Or probably these projects will be on his Election manifesto and carry forward this projects

Many T2 cities in India are planning for metros and monorails.Hubli-Dharwad stands to gain more given the longitudinal growth pattern of the city connecting two twins. One visit to Hubli-Dharwad will allay your fears on the viability. In my opinion private players will be more than willing to take up project here if on PPP.I wish GOK pushes for JICA or some world bank funding.

H-D is going to be second city in india to get this type of rail service.
They should make Mono rail between Hubli- dharwad-Belagavi, this entire strech will grow then. Also shetter should make sure that Scome-Geo desik a malesian Mono rail company is planning to start its Global manufacturing factory in India. that should come in Karnatakas Auto mobile Hub H-D.
This will add then the trial ground for monorail, can be on PPP and also locals will get job and also small scale industry gets spare parts assembly work.

Ask the Centre to bring twin cities under JNNURM: Pralhad Joshi
The Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation will submit to the Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar a proposal for taking up developmental works to mark its golden jubilee celebrations. Councillors and leaders cutting across party lines endorsed a decision to this effect at the meeting convened by the Hubli-Dharwad Mayor Pandurang Patil here on Sunday.
The meeting was convened to chalk out a proposal seeking funds for comprehensive development of the twin cities. At the meeting, which went on for close to two hours, discussion was held on developing interior roads in the twin cities and need to generate revenue so that the HDMC can become self-reliant.
Opposition leader in the HDMC council Dasharath Wali stressed the need for a better underground drainage network, proper interior road, slum clearance, attracting investors and facilitating establishment of industries in between Hubli and Dharwad.
JD (S) leader in the HDMC council Saroja Patil spoke on need for storm water drains and conservation of environment. Floor Leader in the council Prakash Godbole said the State government’s approval should be sought for several pending projects of the HDMC.
While councillors Sudhir Saraf and D.K. Chavan emphasised the need for constructing subway at Kittur Rani Channamma Circle, councillor Raghavendra Ramdurg said arterial roads in the twin cities should be widened.
Mohan Limbikai, MLC, underlined the need for constructing flyovers; developing markets in all localities; rehabilitation of slumdwellers; developing a garden; and promoting the twin cities as tourist centres.
The former Mayor Viranna Savadi said focus should be on major projects.
MLAs Chandrakanth Bellad, Seema Masuti and Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, Chairman of the Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation Ashok Katwe, Chairman of North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation Mallikarju Savakar, Chairman of Karnataka Bal Vikas Academy stressed the need for coordinated planning. Widening of the Hubli-Dharwad bypass, creation of adequate parking spaces, need for playgrounds and construction of indoor stadiums, development of approach road to the twin cities and development of markets at various localities were the issues raised by them.
Pralhad Joshi, MP, suggested that the HDMC should come up with a plan to generate revenue through developmental works. He suggested One-Time Settlement (OTS) for recovering long pending tax dues, especially from the rich.
Mr. Joshi said that unless the existing roads were widened, planning for flyovers was not a prudent idea. He said besides framing a land development policy, it was necessary to consider housing needs of people in the service sector.
He suggested taking an all-party delegation to meet the Union Minister for Urban Development to urge him to bring Hubli-Dharwad under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The meeting concluded with Mayor Pandurang Patil announcing that all suggestions would be consolidated, and a proposal would be finalised in the next two days.

prashanth.0619r August 13th, 2012, 07:44 PM HUBLI: KIMS hospital, one of the biggest government-run hospitals in north Karnataka will soon have its own state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant (STP) in its campus.
Dr. Vasanta Kamat, director, KIMS, said that new plant will start functioning by the end of the month. "Once the plant starts functioning, treated water will be used for cleaning, gardening and various other purposes except for drinking and for surgeries,'' she added.
She said the new plant has been set up according to the guidelines of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. "The work on the new plant is on and it will be completed within a fortnight,'' she added.
Explaining the salient features of the new plant, Vasanta said the SWP plant treats waste water up to four times before it is put into reuse in the hospital.
This will ensure that there is no harm even if the water is used for bathing. Most of the medical college and hospitals have this facility but KIMS took a little time to establish one, she added.
As of now, KIMS gets 3.5 lakh litres of water from Hubli-Dharwad Muncipal Corporation and two lakh litres of water from eight bore wells every day. But soon after the completion of new buildings in December, KIMS may require about 8 lakh litres. The new treatment plant will help to meet at least half of this requirement.
"By using treated water for gardens and other technical things, we plan to cut down on the consumption by making use of the recycled water,'' said Shripad H Sawkar , estate officer for KIMS.
Sawkar said that SWP plant installation work is being taken up at a cost of Rs 79.26 lakh by Techline Green, a private company from Bangalore. "Once KIMS starts getting the recycled water, there will be no more water crisis even if the new buildings come up in the campus. KIMS is paying around Rs 2.5 lakh water bill to the water board,'' he added.
According to officials, government hospitals are supposed to treat and disinfect wastewater generated from laboratories, laundry and water used to clean and disinfect different parts of a hospital. But they directly discharge water into municipal drains.
KIMS discharges about 5 lakh litres of wastewater daily from washing, operation theatre, laboratory, floor and laundry directly into municipal drains.
The process
Sewage treatment plant consists of a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes and operations to remove solids, organic matter and, sometimes, nutrients from wastewater. The objective of treatment is the removal of coarse solids and other large material often found in raw wastewater, and the removal of organic and inorganic solids by sedimentation, floating material by skimming.

pavan9741650414 August 14th, 2012, 05:43 AM Unkal lake park gets nod from residents
Unkal lake park, which was developed under special grants given by the State government, is now a recreation centre for residents of Hubli and Dharwad.
The park was conceptualised and initiated by the district administration and executed and maintained by the Nirmiti Kendra. The lake park was in the news earlier following opposition from residents of Unkal. They had demanded that the municipal corporation complete sewage diversion work before opening the park. On the day of the inauguration in June, a huge protest was staged by Unkal residents. However, at the inaugural function, Urban Development Minister S. Suresh Kumar and the then Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar had assured to solve the issue.
Despite the initial hiccup, the lake park which was developed in four phases at an estimated cost of Rs. 8 crore is slowly being patronised by the residents. The lake park has a 1-km pathway apart from the 750 m bund area, two deck pavilions with canvas roofing which provide a better view of the lake, gazeboes, and also a jetty that has been built to facilitate water sports. Special officer of Unkal Lake Park Y.K. Kattimani said: “Because of rains and Ramzan, visitors are lesser in number. On an average, 200 to 300 people visit the park every day. The number goes up to 500 on weekends.” The administration charges Rs. 10 as entry fee for adults and Rs. 5 for children. The park is open on all days from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Entry for morning walkers is free. At present, there are 15 guards who work on shifts.
“Earlier, we used to travel to other places for family outing. Now we have this lake park in our city. As a resident of Hubli, I feel proud of this development,” said Devaraj Nadukattina, a businessman.
For Prabhudev B.S.U, a visit to the lake park was a surprise. “This is the first time we came here. The park is beautiful and well maintained,” he said.
Manasi and Urvasi, students, were impressed with the ambience and maintenance. “If they start boating, nothing like it,” they said. The park is all set to get additional facilities shortly. “We plan to start boating on August 15,” Mr. Kattimani said.

Ask the Centre to bring twin cities under JNNURM: Pralhad Joshi
http://www.thehindu.com/multimedia/dynamic/01175/12bg_HBGSP_HDMCfun_1175624e.jpg Plan for future:Mayor Pandurang Patil (right) at a meeting convened to discuss the proposal for taking up development works to mark golden jubilee celebrations of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Council, in Hubli on Sunday.— Photo: Kiran Bakale
The meeting concluded with Mayor Pandurang Patil announcing that all suggestions would be consolidated, and a proposal would be finalised in the next two days.

pavan9741650414 August 17th, 2012, 10:19 AM Boating facility at Unkal Lake Park
The much-awaited boating at Unkal Lake Park was introduced by the Nirmiti Kendra here on Wednesday.
Even though the lake park had been attracting people, it was not as popular as the Mahatma Gandhi Park.
Although the district administration had said that boating would be started soon, there was some delay in its introduction.
Special Officer of the lake park Y.K. Kattimani told The Hindu that the boating facility would help attract more people. The rates charged are Rs. 25 for elders and Rs.15 for children. The lake park has three types of boat .
The pedal boat will cost Rs. 30 per head, scooter boat Rs. 75, and Jet Ski Rs. 200 per ride. On the first day, the collection was Rs. 9,770. However, officials said they expect a better response in the coming days.
The lake park is open from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mr. Kattimani said two more boats would be introduced soon.

Department of Forests suggests replanting trees instead of cutting them down
New life:Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority has set a new trend by replanting the tress on lands where it is developing housing layout in Dharwad.
The Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has found a new way to clear land for housing layouts: they will shift and replant trees instead of cutting them down.
HUDA, which is developing housing layouts on 50 acres of land at Tadasinakoppa here, has opted to shift and replant 140 fruit-bearing trees such as mango, guava and sapota from the layout area and replant them on seven-and-a-half acres of land earmarked for three gardens. HUDA chairman Lingaraj Patil told presspersons that the Hubli Dharwad Parisara Samiti, a forum of environmentalists, would be collaborating with HUDA to relocate the trees, he said.
Mandatory
Mr. Patil added that HUDA would make it mandatory to shift and replant trees while developing housing sites, under the new Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP), currently under preparation.
The cost of shifting and replanting trees was nominal, considering the other expenses involved in the development of housing layouts, he said.
Mr. Patil also noted that the trees being replanted at Tadasinakoppa were 10 to 15 years old, and advised developers to follow the same procedure while developing housing layouts.
Conservator of Forests Mahesh Shirur, who was present on the occasion, commended HUDA’s initiative and expressed confidence that the trees would survive being relocated.
Mr. Shirur added that the Department of Forests would hereafter recommend shifting and replanting trees whenever they received applications seeking cutting down of the trees for construction of buildings and other purposes.

The housing layout developed by the Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) at Tadasinakoppa here will be ready within a year, HUDA chairman Lingaraj Patil has said.
Mr. Patil told presspersons here on Saturday that the layout would be ready by August, 2013.
HUDA opted for a single-contract system to complete work faster, he said. Mr. Patil said the layout was being developed under the State government’s 40:60 scheme, where 40 per cent of the land would be given to the landowner and 60 per cent would be distributed. Of the 561 sites, 120 would be reserved for beneficiaries from economically weaker sections, he added.
To a question, Mr. Patil said that the Hubli Electricity Supply Company had not yet initiated action pertaining to power supply to houses in layouts that were constructed without approval from HUDA. .
