Unfortunately, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2010 Asian Games will not be held in this stadium, but instead at Haixinsha Island, where a temporary stand will be erected for the occasion. I hope this doesn't happen when Guangzhou hosts the Summer Olympic Games in the far future.

Why are they not using this for the Opening/Closing Ceremony? It looks great. Very cool design.

^^I don't know, but that decision was stupid. And they may be making the wrong excuses.

They changed because they want to incorporate a huge water show.

The thing is though, the audience will now be a lot smaller and the show that they put on will not be on the same scale as Beijing 2008 or Shangdong 2009 China games since the performance area is so much smaller. So they are trying to do a Shanghai 2010( Opening of Expo)? I guess the good thing about that would be a water show and the audience will be able to see the fireworks more clearly i guess. Furthermore, I think Gz also wanted to showcase their new buildings, hence the location being in the New CBD

They changed the ceremony all because of some water show? Make a mistake by not including a flame (at the Guangzhou Olympic Stadium), how is it going to be lighted all the way from that little island?

In the event that Guangzhou MIGHT end up as an Olympic host (I'd expect Shanghai to be China's next Summer Olympics), they WILL be using this stadium. Unless of course they're willing to build a 60,000 seater minimum temporary stand on the island. :P

^^No temporary stands on Haizinsha island or anywhere else in Guangzhou. Guangzhou hosts a Summer Olympics, this stadium will be used for Olympic Ceremonies and nothing else.

At least the appearance is different from traditional way of ceremony. I can't wait to see how they're going to present the ceremony. It's very interesting. It gets me hook.
They're always thinking out of the box.

Impressive.

Not crazy about the colors though.
