Manchester’s Zenith Building on Spring Gardens has won two awards.

The 14 storey office building was named best commercial building in the Manchester Society of Architects Design Awards.

Meanwhile, the British Council of Offices named the zinc and Portland stone cladded building regional winner for best refurbished/recycled workplace.

Jan Iwanowski, of architects Ombler Iwanowski, said: “The judges were impressed by the attention to detail, such as the use of timber on the inside of the windows which is an unusual feature.”

Zenith owner Wrather Group has let a 476 sq m (5,140 sq ft) office on the sixth floor to Ace Insurance. Almost half of Zenith’s 6,254 sq m (67,320 sq ft) is now taken.

Others to move in since completion in November 2007 are Robert Half, Overbury, Cushman and Wakefield and Octapharma Ltd.
