View Full Version : Rapid KL LRT - Line Extension
TWK90 March 9th, 2012, 12:48 AM Any specific reason for going so high up? Perhaps it has to cross something?
Welcome. No problem at all. Bukhrin had it down pretty much. I was just repeating info mostly.
I can't say anything technical about it, however I can notice that when the station is built at certain elevation, KL Sentral and Universiti, the viaducts are quite high, especially at the western side of KL Sentral and in the case of Universiti, the station itself is elevated at higher elevation above the ground compared to stations such as Taman Paramount or Taman Bahagia.
mrtfreak March 9th, 2012, 02:37 AM For Universiti, if I'm not wrong, it is built on a slight slope, hence its height. The eastern end of the station actually sits lower than the western end. KL Sentral might be the same as I think the track is pretty level for most part. They probably built it higher up for more room at the integrated development and train station area. Nevertheless, hopefully we can get more pictures from the extension projects. :)
I remember the launcher being used back in the initial phase was different than this one they are using now. It used to be coloured red and had this "Pati" sign hanging off the side.

I would assume it’s partly because the natural terrain along the alignment is quite undulating – right from Lembah Subang until SS15 – up and down hills and slopes (was perfect terrain for rubber in the old days!)
Would anyone know when will the stations be named? That should be interesting.
mrtfreak March 12th, 2012, 04:41 AM http://www.bridges.mottmac.com/bridgeprojects/metrobridges/kelanajayalightrail/
Mott MacDonald was appointed by Minconsult in February 2009 as sub-consultant for the preliminary and detailed design of the viaducts for the extension of the Kelana Jaya LRT (Light Rail Transit).
The overall length of the extension is 17.7km with 13 stations. The structures within our design brief include double and single track spans of 36m and two series of special structures with spans of 42 – 65 – 42 and 65 – 100 – 65 metres. These structures have plan variation ranging from straight to radi of 130m. Structural forms are based on precast segmental post-tensioned concrete box girders using external post tensioning.
To overcome the highlateral moments in the piers for the curved special structures, Mott MacDonald has adopted the use of vertical prestressing with integral piers with the decks.
Global effect in the longitudinal direction, including torsional effects is analysed using TDV RM2006 spaceframe software. Construction stages analysis and behaviours of the bridge at end of construction and along the life of the bridge were analysed including the creep and shrinkage effects.
The design has been carried out conforming to BS 5400 as modified for Malaysian conditions. In addition, the design has been assessed in accordance with UIC standards for track/bridge interaction and bridge deformation.
The construction of the special bridges will be carried out using the balance cantilever method.
Special structures, could it be at the KTM Subang Jaya area perhaps? :)
dengilo March 12th, 2012, 06:34 AM Most likely! The most challenging segment of the project ha!

They have already done the automated station names recording for KJ Line 2 years ago with Yasmin Yusoff. So I guess the station naming part would just be a formality.

Ok. Thanks for the info – thought they may have considered a naming contest for some stations. It’s good they’ve retained her voice.

I see. That makes sense too. Thanks for the info. :)
Most likely! The most challenging segment of the project ha!
I'm guessing that the longer span will be when it comes over the Federal Highway and then the 4 KTM tracks. The shorter span section will be when it turns into Subang Jaya.

Sorry. What do you mean by automated station names?

KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) has started on the LRT Line Extension Project (LEP), having laid the
Segmental Box Girders (SBGs) for the Ampang Line last weekend.
"We had successfully put in place the first 12 SBGs for the extended Ampang Line and the remaining 6088 SBGs will be placed in next two years," said Ahmad Kamal Md Yatim, Prasarana's Head of Section for Ampang Line Facilities under the LEP, in a statement today.
Upon commencement of the extended network, the LRT is expected to service hundreds of thousands everyday, Ahmad Kamal said.
Listed as one of the key initiatives under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) blueprint, the LEPs are major efforts by the Government to transform the country's public transport services. - Bernama

mrtfreak March 14th, 2012, 02:47 PM Thanks for the pictures. :) Looks like it is progressing well on this side. I think after this station, they would have a spare track or something. Liking the new design for the pillar there, the one between the two portal pillars. Guess that they will be moving the launching gantry in the direction of Kelana Jaya from here on?
t3ars_culprit March 16th, 2012, 06:37 AM Progression seems fast.. Please hope it wont stop halfway..
dengilo March 19th, 2012, 01:31 AM Once the 2 system meets at putraheights depot it completes a loop. Are they going to standardize the trains and signaling etc etc as one?
TWK90 March 19th, 2012, 02:27 AM ^^
Very unlikely.
First of all, Bombardier ART trains is powered by linear motor and as such, the track is different than the Adtranz EMU (Ampang line) which is powered by normal rotary motor.
Second, the Ampang line new signalling system will be different from Kelana Jaya line. The new signalling system for Ampang line, according to a speech during LRT line extension open day, will be automated, but train attendants will be on board the train.
The best solution is to have an island platform in Putra Heights station, one side for Kelana Jaya line, one side for Ampang line to allow seamless transfer between these two lines just by walking to the other side of platform.
dengilo March 19th, 2012, 06:13 AM I thought so too!

Like TWK90 said. It is not going to happen. There are too many factors that make integration nearly impossible. Basically the only thing AL and KJL have in common are that they both run on standard gauge.
And don't worry. The project is not going to stop half way. Negotiations for the automated signalling system are progressing. If you look at my location you might guess from which country the technology for that will come

Oh, I thought it's that British company that got it. And isn't the winner must also use the signalling system from Invensys (which is also a UK company). I guess my info has become basi already. Ha ha.
TWK90 March 21st, 2012, 04:46 AM Current Kelana Jaya line signalling : Alcatel Seltrac (a CBTC system)
Ampang line : Not known, though at this moment, it is a fixed block signalling, in future, it will be converted to CBTC.
bukhrin March 21st, 2012, 05:24 AM Yeah, was talking about the Ampang Line. And heard some news about the rolling stocks tender as well. Would probably hear about the winner soon.
TWK90 March 21st, 2012, 06:12 AM ^^
I hope the rolling stock is a full 6 car walkthrough rather than 3 paired 2 car sets.
bukhrin March 21st, 2012, 07:25 AM They was discussions for 4 cars versus 6 cars (same overall length), but then they settled for a 6 cars config (walk-through). The plan was to upgrade the system to full ATO with drivers retained as supervisor/to control the door for existing stocks. Been told that the requirement doesn't change much since that.
Since the requirements are pretty straightforward and no proprietary systems ala KJ line, don't be surprised that the key winning issues would be the price points. :P

nazrey April 5th, 2012, 09:17 PM China firm wins RM530m LRT deal
By Sharen Kaur Published: 2012/04/06

The government has awarded a contract worth as much as RM530 million to China’s CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd (CSR ZELC) to supply trains for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line extension project.
CSR ZELC received the letter of award to build and supply 20 sets of six-car light rail vehicles yesterday, sources said.
The trains are meant to service the existing LRT network and the new line to Putra Heights. The award comes at a time when Malaysia and China are strengthening their bilateral trade ties.
Trade between Malaysia and China rose by 42.8 per cent year-on-year to reach US$74.3 billion (RM227.7 billion) in 2010.
Sources close to the government said the award came amid plans by CSR ZELC to invest in a manufacturing plant in Batu Gajah, Perak.
It is learnt that CSR ZELC is planning to use Malaysia as a hub for its expansion into the Asean region. CSR ZELC is one of the major electric locomotive manufacturers in China and a subsidiary
of China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corp Ltd.
The Chinese company is not new to the Malaysian market. It has earlier secured a RM1.89 billion contract from the Transport Ministry to supply 38 sets of six-car trains for the national railway company Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd.
The purchase was part of the government project under the National Key Results Area programme to improve public transportation in the Klang Valley.
The tender for the supply of trains for the LRT extension project, which closed on December 12, 2011, attracted six bidders.
Their prices ranged from RM500 million to RM850 million. It is understood that CSR ZELC is the lowest bidder, beating Bombardier Transportation/Scomi Rail Bhd, Caf Spain/Tranz-i Sdn Bhd, China North Railway/EmRail Sdn Bhd, Rotem Korea/CMC Engineering Sdn Bhd and Romania Astra/Smh Rail Sdn Bhd.

mrtfreak April 6th, 2012, 02:40 PM ^^ It really depends. It seems that even the major rail rolling stock players are using China these days. Our latest batches of MRT trains in Singapore also come from China. One batch is for 22 trains of 6-cars built by a Kawasaki-CSR joint venture. The other order is for 73 trains of 3-cars being built by Bombardier in Changchun, China.
Bangkok's Skytrain's latest batch of rolling stock also came from a Bombardier-China tie-up. I've seen Siemens also indicate tie-ups with China, so I think it is hard to escape having rolling stock originate from there.
hafidz jon April 6th, 2012, 03:46 PM but those in singapore use rolling stock jv from original manufacturer like bombardier/kawasaki/siemens and manufactured by china firm eg csr. even ktm use rolling stock siemens jv csr. this one purely made in china by csr zelc, cmiiw.
i've read in thai forum (not skyscrapercity) that the new batch train have some defect/underperforming issue. but maybe it just wrong translation as they mainly use to write in thai.

Malaysia is expected to award a RM950 million contract for system works for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line extension project to a consortium led by the UK’s Invensys plc.
Government sources said the contract is expected to be awarded within the next one month and will help strengthen bilateral trade ties between Kuala Lumpur and London.
British Prime Minister David Cameron is expected to visit Malaysia next week.
Invensys is a global engineering and information technology group.
Its consortium partners are Balfour Beatty Rail Sdn Bhd, which is 70 per cent owned by the UK’s Balfour Beatty plc – an infrastructure giant with strong finances, and Ingress Corp Bhd.
Engineering group Ingress, which posted a pre-tax profit of RM31.05 million in fiscal year 2011, also owns 30 per cent of Balfour Beatty Rail.
Eight companies had bid for the LRT job with prices ranging between RM950 million and RM1.45 billion.
Tender for the contract closed on June 16. The Invensys-led consortium was the lowest bidder.
The other bidders were Posco-Sojitz-Thales, Colas-CMC Engineering-Thales, George Kent-China Railway-Thales, Samsung-LG-Thales,SNC Lavalin-WW Engineering-Bombardier,Siemens-Scomi Engineering and Ansaldo-Emrail-Leighton.
The Invensys-led consortium was among four contenders which did not make it to the final round after the bid close. The others were SNC-WW, Siemens-Scomi and Ansaldo-Emrail-Leighton. ;)
Invensys had also failed to be pre-qualified as a bidder for the Klang Valley Sungai Buloh-Kajang My Rapid Transit project by MRT Corp.
According to the sources, the government had reviewed the bids and extended the validity of the contracts to May 27 2012.
The systems contract was due to be awarded by end-February.
Business Times reported last December that Prasarana Negara Bhd favoured Posco-Sojitz as it had submitted the second lowest bid, at about RM1.1 billion, and offered to use the Communication-Based Train Control(CBTC) Signaling System supplied by Thales.
French-based Thales’ CBTC technology has been in use since 1985 and the system has been proven on 53 projects around the world.
Prasarana had awarded the system works contract for the Kelana Jaya LRT line extension and monorail system to Thales on a direct negotiated basis because of the system.

KUALA LUMPUR: There are around RM2 billion worth of works yet to be awarded for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) extension project, says AmResearch.
This follows the awarding of a contract worth as much as RM530 million to China's CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd (CSR ZELC) last week, as reported by Business Times.
That contract was for CSR ZELC to supply 20 sets of six-car light rail vehicles.
"What remains is the construction of Station 12, supply of management cards as well as EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) works for the line," AmResearch said in a report.
The research house noted that as most of the major contracts for the LRT extension works had already been awarded, the focus would likely shift to the RM20 billion Sungai Buloh-Kajang MY Rapid Transit line.
So far, RM2 billion worth of contracts have been awarded to IJM Corp, Ahmad Zaki and KimLun Corp.
"From our ground checks, three more major contracts could be announced this month, followed by another two in May.
"These would include part of the six remaining elevated viaduct jobs worth around RM1 billion each.
"For the remaining elevated six packages, we expect IJM to once again be in the mix of things together with Sunway and MRCB, with Naim Holdings and TRC for the bumiputera category.
"For the station and sub-structure works, we expect WCT and Pintaras Jaya to put up a strong challenge."
AmResearch, which has an "overweight" investment call on the construction sector, also expects the imminent rollout of LRT and MRT packages to put renewed focus on building material players such as Lafarge Malayan Cement, Ann Joo Resources, Lion Industries, KimLun and MTD ACPI Engineering.

Eye-opener: Members given a site tour of the LRT line extension project.
Members of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHTMB) were given a site tour of the LRT line extension project recently to show them the progress of the construction work.
The members, led by committee member Dr Muhammad Aslam Shahid were also briefed on the technical aspects of the project to share experience and knowledge on the project.
Briefing them during the visit were representatives from Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad and the project consultant Opus Ace Vector.
Also present were representatives from the project’s main contractors Trans Resources Corp–oration and Sunway Construction for the Kelana Jaya Line and Bina Puri Holdings and MRCB for the Ampang Line.
Following the briefing, CIHTMB members were taken to the project site of Station 2 of the Kelana Jaya line where they witnessed the construction works were being carried out.
Operated by Prasarana’s subsidiary, RapidKL, the Kelana Jaya Line and Ampang Line will be extended from Kelana Jaya and Sri Petaling stations respectively and meet at an integrated station at Putra Heights, which is located some 25km from Putrajaya and 35km from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The Kelana Jaya Line, is a 17-km extension line of an elevated alignment, passing through Kelana Jaya, Subang Jaya and USJ; and serviced by 12 new stations.
The Ampang Line extension line will stretch to Putra Heights with a 17.7km of elevated track and passing through residential areas of Sri Petaling, Bandar Kinrara and Puchong; and will have 11 new stations.
The project is due to be completed by the end of 2014.

CSR Zhuzhou awarded Ampang Line train contract
10 April 2012
MALAYSIA: Lowest bidder CSR Zhuzhou has won a 530m ringgit contract to supply 20 trainsets for the 27 km Ampang Line metro in Kuala Lumpur, which is being extended by 17·7 km to Putra Heights.
The six-car trains will each have a capacity of 1 308 passengers and a maximum speed of 80 km/h, drawing current at 750 V DC from the third rail. The 1 435 mm gauge Ampang Line features steep gradients and 40 m radius curves, and rolling stock will draw on designs which CSR Zhuzhou developed for light metro cars delivered to Izmir in Turkey. Measures will also be taken to minimise corrosion in the humid climate.
The order announced on April 5 specifies that deliveries should run from January 2015 to mid-2016. CSR Zhuzhou plans to undertake some assembly work at Batu Gajah in Malaysia, where a local plant could be developed to serve customers elsewhere in southeast Asia.
Other bidders for the contract were reported to be Bombardier/Scomi, CAF/Trans-I, China Northern/Emrail, Hyundai Rotem/CMC Engineering and Astra/SMH Rail.
At 1,308 passengers per 6 car train set, this could be the train with highest passenger capacity in Klang Valley.
Higher than both the SCS as well as the 4 carriage Kelana Jaya line trains.

TWK90 April 15th, 2012, 04:07 PM It seems Izmir Metro trains built by CSR Zhuzhou shares many similarities with our Ampang line train (Adtranz).
http://www.gofront.com/Zoe/cgcl/2011-2-27/ChaErJiYiCiMiErQingGuiCheLiang_2.htm
Izmir Metro train width is 2650 mm, similar as our Ampang line. It is designed to negotiate 30 m curve radius, close to the new Ampang line train which will be capable of negotiating 40 m curve radius. Both trains has the same maximum speed of 80 km/h.
Wisarut April 15th, 2012, 11:16 PM If CSR Zhuzhou want to market this product in BKK for BTS Skytrain to compete against CNR Changchun, it must be enlarge to accept 2000 passengers per set (6-car formation) as the daily of passengers for BTS Skytrain has already broken into 600000 passengers a day ... but it has to solve the issue of interfering signal which forced the drivers to slow down CNR Changchun on Silom line first!
TWK90 April 15th, 2012, 11:20 PM 2000 passengers per set (in Bangkok), that is essentially a heavy rail (MRT) capacity, and same as in Singapore.
Our lines (in KL) are all medium-capacity. The plan for Ampang line will be driverless when LRT extension completes.
Arkdriver April 16th, 2012, 02:03 PM good thing they decided to go to the lowest bidder. i hope no controversy will rise from this deal, just get the train well maintained, will they?
TWK90 April 16th, 2012, 02:11 PM ^^
I feel RapidKL has good reputation, even among its commuters, especially its rail service.
It seems not only CSR Zhuzhou bid is the lowest, they also offered to partially build the train in Batu Gajah, Perak. This will help to kick start train assembly in Malaysia and also, it will mean spare part supply will be easier to come by.

Prasarana is proposing that the RM950 million systems contract for the Ampang LRT line extension project be awarded to Posco
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd is proposing to the government that the RM950 million systems contract for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line extension project be awarded to Posco, a South Korean steelmaker.
Business Times (BT) reported recently that a consortium comprising Balfour Beatty Rail Sdn Bhd (BBRail), Ingress Corp Bhd and the UK’s Invensys was tipped to win the contract
this month.
“The government is still deciding who to award the contract to. The bidders are lobbying hard for the job. We at Prasarana think Posco and its consortium partners are the best candidates,”
said Prasarana key officials.
In December last year, BT reported that Prasarana had recommended Posco to the government for the job because the company offered to use the French based Thales’ Communication-
Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system.
Thales is a leader in the CBTC market. It invented the CBTC technology, a train control system based on telecommunications, in the 1980s. Its technology was used for the KL monorail
project and the existing Kelana Jaya LRT line.
Posco had bid for the systems contract for the Ampang LRT line extension project in a consortium comprising Japan’s Sojitz,
Thales and South Korean Daewo International.
“Posco has the track record, financial strength and expertise,” said the Prasarana official.
Posco, which is more than 40 per cent controlled by the National Korean Pension Fund and about five per cent by investor
Warren Buffet, is South Korea’s largest contractor based on order book value, beating Samsung and Hyundai.
The group, which posted more than US$35 billion (RM1.05 billion) in revenue last year, is also the world’s third largest steelmaker.
“The LRT project would require a lot of steel and there will be guaranteed supply from Posco. These are the reasons why Prasarana is confident of Posco and believes it will be able to execute the systems work without any constraints,” the official added.
Tenders for the systems contract closed on June 16 2011 where eight companies had made the bids. The other six bidders
were George Kent-China Railway-Thales, Colas-CMC Engineering-Thales, Samsung-LG-Thales, SNC Lavalin-WW Engineering-Bombardier, Siemens-Scomi Engineering and Ansaldo-Emrail-Leighton.

Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd hopes the government will award soon the systems contract for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line extension project to avoid further delay in completing the job.
The Ampang line extension project has been delayed by about two months because of the delay in awarding the systems contract, said Prasarana group managing director Datuk Shahril Mokhtar.
“We have our own master implementation programme for the LRT line extension project and hope the award of the systems contract for the Ampang line can be decided soon so as not to delay the project further,” Shahril told Business Times yesterday.
“The award of the systems contract for the Ampang line is in the hands of the government. It is not within our authority. We have done all the evaluation according to the processes and procedures and presented them to the government for their consideration and approval,” he said.
Business Times reported on Wednesday, quoting Prasarana key officials, that the group involving South Korean steelmaker Posco is the best candidate for the award of the systems contract.
Commenting on the report, Shahril stressed that there is no truth to the inference that Prasarana favours any party and that the company was in no position to make any media statements with regard to awards until an official announcement is made by the government.
“All the bidders are well-known and technically competent,” Shahril said.
Tenders for the systems contract for the Ampang line extension closed on June 16 2011. Eight groups had made the bids.
Apart from the Posco-Sojitz-Daewoo International-Thales group, the others are Invensys-Balfour Beatty Rail-Ingress, George Kent-China Railway-Thales, Colas-CMC Engineering-Thales, Samsung-LG-Thales, SNC Lavalin-WW Engineering-Bombardier, Siemens-Scomi Engineering, and Ansaldo- Emrail-Leighton.
Prasarana is a wholly-owned government company established by the Finance Ministry to facilitate, undertake and expedite public
infrastructure projects.
Shahril is confident that the LRT line extension project will stay within the government’s budget and completed in 2014, despite the twomonth delay.
The government had budgeted RM7 billion for both the LRT line extensions.
“The tender process has allowed Prasarana to enjoy competitive pricing which keeps the cost within budget,” he said.
Shahril hopes that the remaining three contracts for the Ampang line extension – systems work, card access system and construction of station 10 and 11 – will be awarded before the end of this year.
This includes the award of a contract for the card access system for the Kelana Jaya line.

SUBANG JAYA (June 1, 2012): Residents of Subang Jaya accept the new Kelana Jaya LRT line extension despite initial concerns.
Subang Jaya state assembly member Hannah Yeoh told reporters today that the residents of USJ 6 had several apprehensions regarding the new LRT line and the building of its stations.
"The residents who live near the yet to be completed stations, are worried about the impending parking problems," said Yeoh.
She pointed out that illegal parking is a common problem in areas near an LRT station. She suggested that Perasarana (the developer) should put in place a feeder bus system to alleviate the need for residents to drive to the stations.
She added that the residents also had complaints regarding the noise emitted from the piling work every morning, especially on Sundays.
Yeoh said if the station wall was built soon, this would help protect the privacy of residents somewhat.
"The residents of USJ 6 held a dialogue with Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd last Wednesday to address these issues. Although Prasarana has not put it in black and white, they have agreed to look into the matter and find a solution" said Yeoh.
"We are not against the building of the LRT, however we hope that Prasarana addresses our concerns," said USJ 6 Resident Association committee member Mohd Yunus Ismail.
The Kelana Jaya LRT extension line runs for 17km from Lembah Subang to Putra Heights. It is expected to be completed by 2014.

the project site to keep residents abreast of the work in progress
HEAVY machinery for the construction of the Kelana Jaya LRT extension project for the Persiaran Jengka SS14-SS18 stretch have been moved in to start bore piling works along the stretch.
Additional street lights and road barriers have been placed in the immediate area while work to prepare for the building of the LRT guideways is on-going before actual bore piling work starts this month.
TRC senior project manager Zabri Ahmad Shah said heavy bore piling equipment had been brought in to the site and work is expected to commence very soon along the Persiaran Jengka stretch starting from the Kesas Highway wall (SS18/4G and SS14/5J junction) towards the New Pantai Expressway junction.
“Guideway construction for the Kesas Highway to the New Pantai Expressway intersection and the NPE to Empire Shopping Gallery intersection will be completed by November 2013,” he said.
Zabri said adequate banners and signboards will be placed at strategic locations near the project site to keep residents abreast of the work in progress.
“Streetlights along the stretches of road where we will be working on were being taken down to facilitate works at the divider. Temporary lights will be installed and new lights will be installed once the project is completed to ensure adequate lighting,” he added.
He said work along Persiaran Kewajipan (USJ6 and USJ7) was on-going while improvement works for the Persiaran Murni-Persiaran Kewajipan-Persiaran Subang Permai junction to facilitate LRT works would begin in the middle of this month.
“Drainage diversion work in front of The Summit USJ will start in the middle of this month.”
“We will also begin drainage diversion work at Jalan SS15/4D in the middle of this month while the same work will be carried out at Jalan SS17/2 by the month’s end,” he said.
Seven stations are to be built under Package A – Station 1 (located at Lembah Subang near the LRT depo); Station 2 (located at Lembah Subang near Dana 1); Station 3 (located near Kelana Centre Point); Station 4 (KTMB Subang Jaya); Station 5 (SS15/SS17); Station 6 (SS14/SS18) and Station 7 (USJ6/USJ7).

Rafizi: Police probe corroborates Ampang LRT scandal
July 05, 2012
The Malaysian Insider
Rafizi said attempts to intimidate him will be in vain.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli said today he will not be scared off by police investigating how classified documents on the RM960 million Ampang LRT extension project were leaked, and pledged instead to make more revelations surrounding the contract’s award.
Rafizi added that the police investigations into the leaking of the documents, classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), corroborates that revelations so far about the contract were true.
He previously alleged that speculated tender winner, the George Kent consortium, had failed both the technical and commercial evaluations for the contract, and that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak later interfered in the deal.
Yesterday, Federal CID chief Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said a special task force has been set up to investigate how tender documents classified as official secrets were leaked.
“Any move to scare me and my colleagues to prevent us from revealing this scandal will be wasted,” Rafizi said today in a statement.
He added that PKR would start a campaign next week to distribute leaflets about the scandal at LRT stations throughout the city.
PKR has also pledged to make the Ampang LRT extension contract a major campaign issue at the next general election.
The Malaysian Insider reported last week that the speculated winner of the Ampang LRT system works — the George Kent–Lion Pacific joint venture — had scored one of the lowest points in the technical and commercial evaluations for the project.
Rafizi distributed to the press last week pages from the “Technical Evaluation Report” conducted by renowned consultancy group Halcrow, which had found in September last year that George Kent could not successfully deliver the Ampang LRT extension project.
According to the report, George Kent, said to be a manufacturer of water meters, has “no current rail projects” and has “no previous related rail experience”.
The report also said that the largest project ever completed by the consortium was worth under RM40 million, which Rafizi said raises doubts over George Kent’s capability.
Najib had last week denied interfering in the tender award for the project, but PKR has pointed out that the prime minister had neither confirmed nor denied reports that George Kent had been given the contract.
Rafizi claimed to be in possession of documented proof, to be released soon, that Najib had recently, in a “private meeting” with top-level individuals, announced the tender award to George Kent.
This was despite an earlier decision by Putrajaya to award the multi-million ringgit rail project to Balfour Beatty-Invensys Consortium, which Rafizi said was the best qualified for the job.
The rail builders led by the British engineering firm were the lowest bidders for the LRT open tender that closed on June 16 last year, offering to take on the project for RM950 million. The highest bid was for RM1.45 billion.
PKR had recently lodged a police report on the issue, citing Najib for criminal breach of trust (CBT) in his alleged interference in the project award, which has yet to be announced in public.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has also kicked off investigations at Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (SPNB) over the RM960 million contract.
On June 29, The Malaysian Insider reported that only five of the eight bidders passed the technical and commercial evaluation stage but project owner SPNB finally recommended one of the two South Korean consortiums in the running — PDA Consortium — as the other consortiums were said to not have complied with all conditions.
PKR officials have shown copies of official documents to the press, showing that the Ministry of Finance’s (MoF) Acquisition Committee, which met this January 25, had decided to award the contract to Balfour Beatty-Invensys Consortium.
The committee is the highest decision-making body in the MoF and is chaired by Najib himself, who is also finance minister

Suggestions PM interfered in award of Ampang line extension LRT project baseless, says Prasarana
The Malaysian Insider | July 19, 2012
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/suggestions-pm-interfered-in-award-of-ampang-line-extension-lrt-project-baseless-says-prasarana/
KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 — Suggestions in the media that the Prime Minister, who is also the Minister of Finance, interfered in the award of the Ampang line light rail transit (LRT) extension project are baseless and uncalled for.
On the contrary, the government is still in the process of undertaking a due diligence of the multi-billion ringgit project, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) Media Manager Azhar Ghazali said in a statement today.
"As the chairman for the RM300 million and above tender awards, the Prime Minister, who is also the Finance Minister, is dutifully bound to moderate all recommendations and decide together with the committee members the award of or seek more clarifications if required from the said tender.
"It will be unfair to misconstrue the due process using any other terms such as "interfere" when the committee is vested with the required level of authority to make the necessary decisions," he said.
Prasarana, the operator and asset owner of the LRT Line extension project, expressed concern over statements made in the media by various quarters that the government was meddling in the award of the Ampang LRT line extension contract.
Saying such talk was unfair, Azhar said that to date no final decision has been made on the contract award and that the tender award was not necessarily achieved within a single seating.
An official announcement on the award would be made by the Finance Ministry when all matters with regard to the contract had been considered and studied, he said.
Prasarana, set up by the Finance Ministry, said the tender evaluation, recommendations and award process were within the ministry's prerogative.
In the course of the tender evaluation, the technical competency of every tenderer was reviewed as a whole offering whilst observations were recorded for any shortcomings found within the submission.
Ultimately, the results from the technical evaluation will reveal the pass or fail position of each tenderer, and thus, the ability to implement the project, he said
For instance, a bidder may submit low price; but at the expense of not meeting the full tender requirements or by qualifying or deviating from the stipulated contract conditions, thus such bids must be vetted carefully as they might not be in Prasarana's best interests.
Prasarana said the award process was not necessarily achieved within a single seating as sometimes clarifications were sought to ensure all perspectives were given due recognition before the ultimate decision to award was made.
At this level, he said, the government would scrutinise all recommendations made and would seek further clarifications.
Azhar said these cycles of deliberations might take a few rounds and that was perhaps what the market was speculating about the "interim picture" before final award.
Updated information from the clarifications was to ensure all concerns and moderations were backed by the facts needed before any award could be concluded.
"The government is not obliged to award to the lowest bid, rather it looks at the totality of the offer and considers the most optimum that is beneficial to the project in the long run," he said.
AMG Systems is part of the AMG line extension project, under which new systems will be installed and commissioned for the extended line, while the existing line will be suitably upgraded to ensure par performance and optimum integration for seamless train operations when completed in 2015.
The scope under the AMG Systems is of multi-disciplinary type, no less than seven major sub-systems that must be tested, commissioned and integrated (signalling, track works and 3rd rail, power supply, COMMS, SCADA, depot equipment, etc).
For such complex and diverse scopes, Azhar said no single contractor was able to meet the project requirements, thus, consortiums or joint ventures are typically formed to undertake the works.
The collaborations will involve local and foreign expertise, each member will complement the strength of other members and together offer a value proposition as required under the tender.
"As for AMG Systems, no one company has either the breadth or the expertise to manage this project alone. In fact, all submitted bids comprise of three or more partnerships per tenderer," he said.
Leaked information found in the media recently did not give a full picture as comprehensively explained above, he said.
Dated selective excerpts have been superseded by new information resulting from the clarifications.
Azhar said: "They did not do justice either by labelling certain activities as "interference" when what were and are being done are due diligence processes by the government."
Yesterday, engineering company, George Kent (M) Bhd, denied receiving any indication on the award of the RM960 million Ampang project.
The George Kent consortium vying for the project also includes China Railway Construction Corp and Tewet GmbH, a project consultant firm.
Besides George Kent consortium, other bidders for the project were
2. Invensys-Balfour Beatty Rail-Ingress consortium,
3. Posco-Sojitz-Daewoo International-Thales,
4. Colas-CMC Engineering-Thales,
5. Samsung-LG-Thales,
5. SNC Lavalin-WW Engineering-Bombardier,
6. Siemens-Scomi Engineering and
7. Ansaldo-Emrail-Leighton.

Besides George Kent consortium, other bidders for the project were
2. Invensys-Balfour Beatty Rail-Ingress consortium,
3. Posco-Sojitz-Daewoo International-Thales,
4. Colas-CMC Engineering-Thales,
5. Samsung-LG-Thales,
5. SNC Lavalin-WW Engineering-Bombardier,
6. Siemens-Scomi Engineering and
7. Ansaldo-Emrail-Leighton.

http://www.mmail.com.my/story/prasarana-assures-safety-lrt-extension-project-24034
SYARIKAT Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana), the project and asset owner of the light rail transit (LRT) line extension project, said engineers working for the project were highly qualified and experienced to ensure all safety measures are strictly observed.
Prasarana group communications chief Masnizam Hisham said that in addition, contractors would be strictly supervised by Prasarana and officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Department under the Human Resources Ministry.
"We would like to emphasise that the safety of people is paramount to Prasarana when undertaking its project and in providing its services.
"At no time will safety be compromised in discharging our duties," she said in a statement today in response to safety concerns raised by some.
Masnizam said Prasarana and its contractors have been working closely with all the relevant agencies -- both at state and federal levels -- especially in securing all necessary approvals and permits, including for pre-work.
"Prasarana would like to stress that all work undertaken by the company and its contractors would only commence after issuance of the necessary permits and approvals by the relevant authorities," she added.

tunomura July 31st, 2012, 03:59 PM Confirmed, Goerge Kent wins the Ampang Line system work contract...
George Kent wins Ampang LRT job
By Sharen Kaur
http://www.georgekent.net/templates/theme474/images/logo.png
George Kent Bhd, a company specialising in mechanical and engineering work, has won a contract for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT)extension line project.
The contract awarded by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd is for
engineering, procurement, construction, testing and com missioning of system works for the Ampang LRT line.
This confirms a Business Times report last month which stated that a George Kent led joint venture is tipped to win the job, reportedly worth about RM960 million.
George Kent's joint venture partner for the contract is privately owned Lion Pacific Sdn Bhd, which holds a PKK (Pusat Khidmat Kontractor) and CIDB licence for track work.
Established in 1936, George Kent, which prides itself as a leader in mechanical and electrical engineering posted a pre-tax profit of RM26.2 million on revenue of RM152.3 million for fiscal 2011.
The stock closed three sen higher yesterday at RM1.03.
Prasarana is the project and asset owner for the LRT line extension project.
According to Prasarana, the George Kent-Lion Pacific joint venture will be supported by local and international technical partners with proven track records in their respective field of systems implementation expertise.
Business Times understands that they may include French-group Thales, China Railway Construction Corp and Tewet GmbH, a project management consultant company.
Prasarana said some of the key sub-systems proposed by the joint venture and their partners have synergy with Prasarana’s current operations.
"In the long run, Prasarana will benefit from reduced operating expenditures and cross-competency gains that will in crease service efficiencies," it said in a statement yesterday.
Prasarana said with the award of the latest contract, it has awarded most of the packages under the Ampang LRT line ex tension.
The remaining contracts to be awarded are for access card system, which has yet to be tendered out.
Prasarana also maintained that the construction cost for the entire LRT extension project is below the original budgeted cost of RM7 billion.

If those documents are "secret", then what is the point of having an "open tender"? All for show to lie to and mislead the public like what you are trying to do here? And what counter-offer? Do you think this is someone trying to buy a condo? Maybe you don't know the tendering process as all the offers have to be submitted at the same time. Please refrain from giving nonsensical arguments next time, and calling people names.
Hey mod, take note of a personal attack.....SgWay just called me a MAD DOG and a MORON.

tunomura August 8th, 2012, 11:16 PM Prasarana cooperating in Halcrow probe
By Sharen Kaur
Published: 2012/08/08
SYARIKAT Prasarana Negara Bhd said it will give its full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding investigations on British engineering firm, Halcrow.
Halcrow was appointed as an independent evaluator by Prasarana to assess the capabilities of the eight groups which had bid for the systems contract for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line extension project.
The British group is under investigation by MACC on the integrity of its evaluation process in assessing the capabilities of the bidders to undertake the job.
This includes the George Kent (M) Bhd-Lion Pacific Sdn Bhd joint venture.
The report card of the bidders has been politicised by PKR's director of strategy Rafizi Ramli.
On July 3, Rafizi disclosed details of the Halcrow technical report which was critical of George Kent. He questioned the award of the systems contract to the company.
Meanwhile, the police have started separate investigations and are probing how the documents were leaked under the Official Secrets Act.
Prasarana officials have been interviewed on this matter.
Prasarana issued a statement saying that the leaked details of the Halcrow report did not give the public a full picture of the entire tender and award process.
It said dated selective excerpts were superseded by new information resulting from the clarifications.
Halcrow is also being investigated on the potential conflict of interest with UK's Balfour Beatty Inc, which owns 70 per cent of Balfour Beatty Rail (BBRail) Sdn Bhd. :)
BBRail is one of the eight bidders. Its consortium partners are UK's Invensys Inc and Ingress Bhd.
Based on reports, Halcrow had prior working relationship with Balfour Beatty.
Both companies were part of a consortium that won a STG35 million (RM169 million) project in Wales. They also jointly bid for a project in the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone.
"It is improper for us to make public comments at this stage as the matter is still under investigation by MACC," Prasaranasaid in an email reply to Business Times.
Prasarana also said that the investigations would not effect the award on other pending projects by the company.
"We can confirm that all except one particular work package have already been awarded under the LRT extension project. The contract for access card had yet to be tendered out," the company said.

mrtfreak August 16th, 2012, 07:49 PM On Tuesday I walked along the extension route for Kelana Jaya Line as far as I could (which is about to extension station 2) and got several photos of the line. Beyond station 2 there's not much going on apart from pier erection. Subang Jaya KTM has only preparatory works going on.
At station 1, they seem to be building a new access to the ramp into the depot. Not entirely sure how they will connect to the existing line as there is no prior provision for it as seen through Google Earth. Guess they will have to do some modification works here. Anyway, they are connecting the extension via the turnout provision in the viaduct that was part of the original line. Shall let the photos do the talking.

dean80 August 20th, 2012, 06:31 AM Hi..I dont think its a turn around provision because there are no power rails on that viaduct as seen from google earth. There is a empty space there on the the viaduct for extension. I think it was meant for any future extensions..what u guys think..
mrtfreak August 20th, 2012, 06:47 AM Yes, I realised I wasn't very clear in my phrasing. What I meant is that there is a structural provision that the viaduct allows for an extension which is now being made use of. However the track layout has no turnout provided there. I guess this is why they are creating the new depot reception track as well. So that the current reception track will be used only for entry to the depot, allowing modification to the existing tracks so that they can access the extension. I think I've posted some google earth images before showing the current layout before the extension. Will try to find it again.
Edit:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e130/whataprob/Rail/KJLExtensioninterface.jpg
You can see here the structural provision for a future extension. But there's no track provision. Sorry about the confusion.

It currently shows the names below. However, I suspect those are not the finalised names. I understand from other sources that Kelana Jaya Line Extension Station 02 should be Ara Damansara and Station 03 should be Glenmarie.

bukhrin August 28th, 2012, 02:27 PM are they joking?why did they name Subang Parade instead of Subang Jaya? if it's interchange station between LRT and komuter, they have to put the same name.
Well they did seem "like-we-care-what-you-people-think" on naming the Bukit Bintang station as Bukit Bintang Sentral when they already have a monorail station there.
The rule of thumb in naming stations should always be on locality, not shopping malls, as their names do change. Case in point, the Plaza Phoenix in Cheras has been changed to Cheras Sentral, now do they need to change the station name or keep Plaza Phoenix. If they just use Taman Connaught, then this would not be an issue at all.
choon August 28th, 2012, 03:38 PM are they joking?why did they name Subang Parade instead of Subang Jaya? if it's interchange station between LRT and komuter, they have to put the same name.
In fact is silly to use shopping centre as station name...what if they change name or bought over buy other company? Ex: Ex-Asia Jaya and Armada...
patchay August 28th, 2012, 03:39 PM Seriously some stations I just laugh.
OK good they rename Taipan, etc.
But:
- who wants to go to Depoh anyway??? (shub rename Ara Damansara better)
- Awan Besar (???)
- Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil 1
- Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil 2
- Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil 3
- Tesco LDP ??? (dis tesco must be damm lucky)

I think the Bukit Bintang Sentral station is a kinda big issue now because everytime I see a new coming property developments map I'll see the map that the Bukit Bintang sentral station not interchanging with bukit bintang monorail station.:bash:
szehoong August 28th, 2012, 07:14 PM Don't jump first you guys......If you guys noticed, the Putra LRT (now Kelana Jaya Line), STAR LRT (Now Ampang Line) and KL Monorail all had permanent names only months before operations so most names now are kinda fluid.

I agree those names from SPAD as of 11 May 2012 are very likely not the finalised ones. But changing names late in the day does cause problems with internal systems/lables/documentations that need to use names instead of just station numbers.
who wants to go to Depoh anyway??? (shub rename Ara Damansara better)
I believe MBPJ had approved KJ Stn02 to be named as Ara Damansara (not Depoh).
nazrey August 31st, 2012, 04:29 PM Thales to provide train control system for Ampang LRT
Last updated on 31 August 2012 - 01:33am
http://www.thesundaily.my/news/476758
PETALING JAYA (Aug 30, 2012): George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd has selected Thales to provide its SelTrac communications-based train control (CBTC) system for the existing 27km Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line and an 18km extension to the line which is scheduled for completion in 2015.
"The selection of Thales will provide seamless integration and significant cost savings as the CBTC system is also currently utilised for the Kelana Jaya LRT line. (This made) Thales the obvious choice to provide the same SelTrac fully-automated signalling communications platform for the Ampang line and Ampang LRT extension project," said George Kent in a statement yesterday.
"Their experience and safety track record in driverless train systems were crucial in the selection of a world-class signalling systems provider. With Thales on board, the project is on track for completion within requirements," it added.

t3ars_culprit September 4th, 2012, 12:02 PM Mmm ... Just getting to an alignment to Putra Heights from Kelana Jaya / Sri Petaling had raised a lot of objection from some Putra Heights residents. I wonder whether there would be more objections if the alignment goes through Putra Heights to the west.
Ref: http://www.selangortimes.com/index.php?section=news&permalink=20111220141209-lrt-extension-not-in-our-backyards
Just for curiosity sake, what sort of alignment are you thinking of going from Putra Heights station to Kota Kemuning?

After so many years, Shah Alam residents have to travel to neighbour city for food & entertainment, now taking public transport also have to travel to PH or SJ for LRT? :ohno:
Why lar.. If LRT drive into KK, people can choose to walk to the station without driving.. Sigh

I mean Sri Petaling Line from Puchong extended until Putra Heights and further to KK.. It is a straight line..
Putra Heights is not necessary to be the terminal station right I mean?
sc4 September 7th, 2012, 12:28 PM ^^ The the Kelana Jaya line from the other side need to be detoured to terminate at KK too....which is further off. Unless a branch line is planned from P.Heights towards KK-Shah Alam-Klang

Agree with sc4 here. Putra Heights is a better location than Kota Kemuning for joining both Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines extensions.
Are you (sc4 & t3ars_culprit) aware of the proposed LRT3 to Klang from PJ area? See SPAD URDP (Urban Rail Development Plan) (http://www.spad.gov.my/projects/national-master-plan/draft-greater-klklang-valley) (PDF 3.5MB (http://www.spad.gov.my/sites/default/files/URDP-MP-MOC_110913-v1.0.pdf)). Its page 43, "A spur of the LRT line should be built linking Klang to Shah Alam and the existing LRT at Kelana Jaya ... complement the KTMB route along a parallel alignment", page 50, "LRT- Kelana Jaya- Klang, Pre 2030 completion", page 52, "LRT3, 23.5Km, 16 stations, 5 mins headway, 100,000 daily ridership".
That SPAD URDP's Figure 4.7 on page46, shows the alignment to be northern part of Shah Alam, near NKVE highway. No LRT alignment shown in southern part of Shah Alam near Kota Kemuning.
You may want to provide feedback to said URDP at http://www.spad.gov.my/projects/national-master-plan/feedback .

Not only Kota Kemuning, Taman Sri Muda, Alam Impian, Kemuning Utama, Bukit Rimau, and etc is consider southern part..

The extended Ampang Line from Sentul to Putra Heights is 27+17=44km. [1] [2]. That would be about the longest in the world. I understand there are operational constrains operating a lilne that long.
So further extending it from Putra Heights to Kota Kemuning may not be preferable. Especially, since many people like me would also be requesting it to be further extended to Bukit Rimau, Bandar Puteri, Bandar Botanic and Bandar Bukit Tinggi.

THE construction works for the LRT extension project is proceeding according to schedule despite facing unforeseen challenges due to requests from affected communities in some areas.
According to Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad’s media affairs manager Azhar Ghazali, the company was unable to proceed with the works for the Ampang Line in the vicinity of Station Seven and Station Eight near Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Castlefield, since some 150m of the alignment passes through the fringe of the school field.
“We have had a series of discussions including exploring the possibility of realignment to avoid the school totally but all parties have agreed that this would not be possible.
This is after taking into account the locations of the stations as well as the Park and Ride areas, recent new and on-going developments and space constraints along Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP),” he said.
Azhar said the school’s primary objection was the noise pollution and that Prasarana has undertaken to carry out necessary measures to address the noise generated from the trains during operation.
He said the school’s Board of Trustees has also been given an alternative land for a new school, adding that Prasarana has committeed itself to ensure safety during construction works like putting up hoarding at the work areas, proper traffic circulation for heavy machinery and other measures if the school decides to remain at its current location.
“During operations, noise barriers will be installed to minimise the impact and proper landscaping done to minimise visual impact.
“We secured all the necessary approvals and permits to undertake construction works at the area and piling works by our main contractor was scheduled to start in July 2012.
“These works, however, could not be undertaken because our contractor was denied entry by the school that had stipulated several conditions,” Azhar said but did not elaborate further.
He said however that since some of the conditions and demands were beyond Prasarana’s jurisdiction, the school’s Board of Trustees had forwarded their requests to the Ministry of Education and that the latter has yet to make a decision.
Until the decision is made, the school will stand firm and will not allow the contractor entry.
As for Taman Subang Alam, Alam Megah in Shah Alam, Putra Heights as well as the construction of Station 11 and Station 12 for the LRT Kelana Jaya Line, Prasarana is continously engaging the residents in talks despite securing all necessary approvals to commence with the construction works.
“We are working hard to ensure that all works are conducted as swiftly as possible to reduce the discomfort and inconvenience faced by the residents as result of the construction works,” Azhar said.
Works for the LRT Line Extension Project started in late February.
The extension will begin from Kelana Jaya Station and pass through 13 new stations, including Subang Jaya and USJ before ending at Putra Heights, covering a distance of 17km.
The LRT Extension Project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014, barring unforeseen circumstances.

jforasia September 25th, 2012, 03:55 AM Thursday 20/9/2012 : Worker killed in LRT project site mishap
KUALA LUMPUR: A construction worker was killed when he was sandwiched between a pole and a segmental box girder launcher on a Light Rail Transit (LRT) track under construction at the Taman Muhibbah People's Housing Project (PPR) in Puchong near here Thursday. Mohammad Hanafi Abdullah, 23, from Kedah, was pronounced dead at the Kampung Muhibbah 1Malaysia Clinic at 1.28pm. Bina Puri-Tim Sekata JV construction manager Kenny Tiew said Mohammad Hanafi, who was an employee of a subcontractor, and several other workers were working on the track when the incident occurred at about 11.20am. "A worker immediately contacted the Fire and Rescue Department who brought down the victim from the track."A medical officer managed to resuscitate the victim, after which he vomited and fainted again," he said when contacted. Tiew said Mohammad Hanafi was taken to the Kampung Muhibbah 1Malaysia Clinic before he died, apparently from internal bleeding. He said following the incident, construction work on the track has been suspended pending investigation by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.

I believe there is driver's cab. So in ATO, the driver will just be watching out for safety issues, debris/persons on the track etc. Whether, the driver will be holding a deadman switch or just poised over emergency stop button, I'm not sure.
ATO with attendant (also called DTO), I guess maybe in my opinion, Ampang line train would be similar to this SP1950 EMU which is currently on West Rail Line HK, equipped with Thales Seltrac CBTC, with on-board attendant, just like future Ampang line :)

Just my opinion. And speaking of changing Abdul hukum LRT station to Ecocity, I think it is a must to avoid confusion.

numbernine December 6th, 2012, 08:04 AM i'm sorry but they better keep the name abdullah hukum, it has history, stop changing name to make it sound more western or modern, this is malaysia, we have our own history.
i'm sorry if i sound too emotional or anything, but abdullah hukum is my great grandfather, and u guys have no idea how heartbreaking it is to see all this development on the land where he once lived, and also where my grandma and grandpa, my mom once lived, and where i've been living for the past 23 years, i'm not antidevelopment and hey it's even my grandpa's idea to sell the land, so i'm not putting blame on anyone, but at least keep the name.
who knows back then kuala lumpur which literally mean mud valley or something like that, will be an internationally known name, if the internet is widely used back then i'm sure there will be lots of netizens would not approve of naming our capital city with such name. but hey' it has it's own uniqueness, the more tongue twisted the name sound, the more exotic it will be, and people nowadays like something that's different.
just my 2 cents
sabre23t December 6th, 2012, 10:12 AM ATO with attendant (also called DTO), I guess maybe in my opinion, Ampang line train would be similar to this SP1950 EMU which is currently on West Rail Line HK, equipped with Thales Seltrac CBTC, with on-board attendant, just like future Ampang line :)
That SP1950 EMU dashboard looks good. I can see the red emergency stop button. But where is the deadman switch? On the floor?

I feel for you, but I'm torn both ways on this issue. I feel Abdullah Hukum Stn name should be changed to Eco City, but what I REALLY WANT Setia to do, is to erect a monument (maybe your great-grandpa's statue), if possible on the very site or your great-grandpa's house. and on that monument it has to state that on that site there was a village named in your great-grandpa.
Seriously, KL (and Malaysia, I think) lack these kind of monuments/statues and memorials, we should have more of them, and they shouldn't be put in Muzium Negara (like the Frank Swettenham statue which was in Dataran Merdeka) as they are history. We shouldn't be cowed by religious extremists who say that statues are going to result in idol worshipping (I'm sure most Malaysian Muslims are smart enough not to go worship statues commemorating people/events/places, eg. Jakarta). Neither should politics too!:)
BTW, numbernine, do you think that road names in KL, be changed back to their original British colonial names? History kan bro? =)
PS Sorry for being out of topic. I felt I really needed to address this

Having a statue is an art form. If you don't worship it, it shouldn't go against your religion. If having an image is wrong, then you shouldn't even keep any pictures of yourself. Anyway, in multicultural and multi-religious Malaysia, there should be a compromise on what should or shouldn't be erected. The mere words of extremists do not suffice.

Malays in Malaysia is conservative lot. It's unline in Indonesia where they have lots of statues of national heros. I think most of Malaysians are okay with that. Thales to supply CBTC for KL's Ampang Line
Written by Keith Barrow
GEORGE KENT, the Malaysian contractor responsible for trackwork and railway systems on Kuala Lumpur's Ampang Line extension, has selected Thales to supply its SelTrac Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system for the existing 27km line and the 17.7km southwestern extension, which is currently under construction.
The system will support migration to Unattended Train Operation (UTO).
The extension from Sri Petaling to Puchong and Putra Heights will add 12 new stations to the Ampang Line when it opens in late 2014.

Prasarana LRT line extension delayed to 2015
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — The completion of the Prasarana LRT line extension project by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd will now be delayed to 2015 instead of an earlier 2014 estimated due date.
A delay in the land acquisition process, mainly in Puchong, was cited as the cause.
The Ampang extension line, 17.7 kilometres long with 12 new stations, will start from Sri Petaling station to Putra Heights while the extended Kelana Jaya Line will run from Kelana Jaya station, covering a distance of 17 kilometres and 13 new stations, before ending at Putra Heights.
Prasarana's Managing Director, Datuk Shahril Mokhtar, said the delay will also increase cost but added that the company will try to keep the extra cost to below five per cent of the original figure.
He said the lands had already been approved by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) but there had been slight issues like buildings.
“Even if it is delayed, it won't be that off track. The project will be done in two phases and is expected to be completed by early 2015. Currently, the project is more than 30 per cent done,” he told reporters at the launch of 1Malaysia Talent Station here, today.
On the company's outlook next year, Shahril said Prasarana was close to completing its restructuring.
Starting from January 1, 2013, Prasarana will have a new corporate structure with its focus to be slightly different and on “what we have at the moment.”
“For the last one year also, we have actually transformed ourselves, moving into the commercial and property (segment), and we will be going into consulting.”
Proper announcements on this will be made next year, he added. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The light rail transit extension project will only be ready in 2015.
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd group managing director, Datuk Shahril Mokhtar, said it was originally scheduled to be completed in 2014, but faced a setback due to land acquisition issues in Puchong.
"The project is now 30 per cent completed, with main works carried out including relocation of utilities, construction of rail guideway and box girder (beam). Despite this, we try to manage the cost within the budget," he said.
The disputed land is located within the approved alignment at Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) next to SRJK (T) Castlefield and squatter houses there.
The RM7 billion project commenced early this year with the Kelana Jaya line extension.
On the company's plan, Shahril said a major corporate restructuring within the Prasarana top management would take place next month. He, however, did not divulge the details.

Good news, whether or not they keep the LRT station's name as 'Abdullah Hukum', a monument would be built in honour of the man and the Kampung. In the scale model in Setia International Centre, there's a kampung house labelled "Rumah Warisan Haji Abdullah Hukum" beside the mosque (which sits on top of a multi storey car park.

nazrey January 14th, 2013, 03:57 PM Rail line extension to offer more convenience
Published: 2013/01/14
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIMES/articles/prasan/Article/#ixzz2HxhB8ey8
THE government was spot on when it decided to build the light rail transit (LRT) system more than 10 years ago to serve the fast-growing towns and cities of the Klang Valley.
Today, the system - currently spread into three, namely the Ampang Line, Kelana Jaya Line and KL Monorail - is the most popular urban public transport mode for commuters and tourists of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
With the growing popularity of the LRT, it is only natural that the alignments be extended so that more people in the Klang Valley can enjoy the benefits that the system brings. Currently, the Ampang Line and the Kelana Jaya Line are going under an alignment-extension exercise, while larger-capacity trains will be used for KL Monorail to cater to the growing ridership volume of the urban public transport system.
Under the Line Extension Project (LEP), currently undertaken by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, the Ampang Line alignment will be extended by an additional 17.7km with 11 new stations, while the Kelana Jaya Line will be stretched by 17km with 12 new stations. The extension for Ampang Line will start from Sri Petaling and end at Putra Heights. The Kelana Jaya Line extension will commence from Lembah Subang, through Subang, USJ, Alam Megah and end at the hub in Putra Heights.
Without a doubt, the LEP will bring transport convenience to many more people once it is completed in 2015.
The multi-billion ringgit LEP will further raise the bar in terms of quality and level of services of the urban public transport system in the Klang Valley. Prasarana is determined to complete the project as early as possible.
Its works on the LEP and the LRT as well as the monorail have caught the attention of various developing nations that aspire to further improve their urban public rail and bus systems. Representatives from these countries, including Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and the latest, Tatarstan Republic, had made visits to Prasarana headquarters to attend briefings on the company's operations and future directions. They were impressed with Prasarana's capability and what the company had in store to further improve Malaysia's urban public transport system.
To better service and assist these countries that are keen to emulate the manner Prasarana has transformed Malaysia's urban public transport system, a new subsidiary - Prasarana Integrated Management and Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (PRIME) - has been formed.
The new outfit, which came about following the integration of related divisions in Prasarana, will provide it with the best platform to explore business opportunities in the transport infrastructure development and management abroad. West Asian countries are among those with potential where Prasarana, via PRIME, could establish a strong foothold to tap the sector.
PRIME will also allow Prasarana to diversify its sources of revenue thus reducing its exposure to the fare-collection business as a means to generate income. The fare structure for the urban public transport system in Malaysia is rigid and controlled by the government. That the structure has not been revised for quite some time puts Prasarana in a tight spot to formulate a profit-generating strategy from the business segment. Diversification is the only way to go and Prasarana has PRIME, among others, to be its new revenue-creation vehicle.
For more than 10 years, Prasarana has been bringing transport convenience closer to the residents of Klang Valley via its LRT and monorail systems. The mobility advantage that the two systems have somewhat improves the living quality of these residents. The completion of the LEP would mean more residents of Klang Valley would enjoy the benefits of an efficient urban public transport system.
With PRIME in place and all geared up to market Prasarana's capability in development and management of urban public transport infrastructure, Prasarana's contribution in bringing transport convenience to the public will not be limited to the domestic scene. The company will become a global player and spread its urban public transport-related services for the developing world to enjoy.

lohxy January 16th, 2013, 02:07 PM I really can see the potential of Ampang Park to be a station similar to Dhoby Ghaut (correct spelling?) if circle line really passed through there and maybe an additional northeast-southwest line?

FNNG January 17th, 2013, 03:23 AM they should make a nice curve shape. like bullet shape. square design looks so...... not modern... btw... the KLIA train (or i duno what it call, fetch ppl from one gate to another gate train) also square design. they should change it also.

london tube x de bullet shape pon. there is no need to change the non bullet train to bullet train. the money could be spent elsewhere

not sure but i think there is no such bullet design for a mrt/subway/tube etc.. for that matters we might ask bombardier/CSR/siemens to design it such way :) IMO, bullet shape on bullet train most probably because of the aerodynamics thingy to improve on the speed and stuff like that.. and since speed is not a factor here hence the squarish design
patchay January 18th, 2013, 04:54 AM I thought the new Ampang train looks nice, simple, elegant and modern.

constipation January 22nd, 2013, 09:45 AM new lrt stations...looks good
i believed that just an artist impression only, i dont put any faith that the station will looked like that, based on our previous experience most of public infrastructure implemented by the government are lack with creativity and at the end of the day, the simplest and dull looking design would be chosen ( e.g our walkway and pedestrians street by DBKL):ohno:. Hence it would be outdated and primitive

Maybe the construction is commenced on the confirmed part first to fasten the progress. The Ampang Line got 2 station pulled out even with the construction is ongoing, where we think that no plan change will be made.
