s.yogendra January 23rd, 2012, 04:26 PM KSRTC Bus Depot at Udupi, Divisional Workshop in Puttur
A new bus depot of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will set up in Udupi while a divisional workshop and a new bus stand are being set up in Puttur, Transport Minister R Ashok announced on Monday.
Addressing reporters in Bangalore on Monday, he said the Udupi bus depot is among the five new bus depots being set up by KSRTC under the public-private-partnership model.
The other four bus depots are being set up in Mysore, Tumkur, Challakere and Hassan.
The minister said the Volvo hybrid bus, unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this
month, will be launched on Bangalore roads soon.
The 105-seater single bus would have a two-month trial run in the city.
The trail run would commence from this month itself.
According to a preliminary report, the minister said the hybrid bus reduces diesel fuel costs by 30 per cent besides being environment friendly with significantly less emission levels.
He said the Volvo 7700 hybrid has a diesel engine and an electric motor, which can be used either independently or jointly.
The battery that drives the motor of the bus is charged through re-generative braking. The engine shuts off when the vehicle is stationary and does not start again till the bus reaches 15 to 20 kmph, thereby further saving fuel, he said.
The foundation stone would be laid tomorrow for a new depot of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation at Devanahalli in the city outskirts.
The new bus stand of BMTC at Devanahalli would be constructed on a 3.24 acre plot, he said.

schumi0101 January 24th, 2012, 02:42 PM I am left in a bit of confusion here...
I was trying to book a ticket from Belgaum to Bangalore on the KSRTC website. There were two sleeper buses available on this route. Though both the buses start from Belgaum central bus stand, the time shown in the Trip code and the Departure time is different.
http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6AjLBzvYKfQ/Tx6zwSam0EI/AAAAAAAAALc/pc5O52_Ofmo/s800/misc.jpg
The difference of dept time is clearly an hour, so my question is what time does the bus departs?

catchshash January 25th, 2012, 05:26 PM A bus with wheel caps is like the great khali having a naval piercing.. only women look good with exposed naval piercings and so do the cars with wheel covers.. a bus with a wheel cover?? yuck.. Black is beautiful, at least when it comes to machines.. now don't call me a racist.. its only my opinion..
akhilesh kinnigoli January 25th, 2012, 05:58 PM ^^Even I have the same opinion.Buses dont look good with wheel caps.Have seen in some of private buses of interior karnataka which looks devilish and terrific.
Wheel rims painted the same color of bus looks better than wheel caps.

s.yogendra January 29th, 2012, 05:24 PM KSRTC services shifted to KBS
Express bus services of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) from Bangalore to Hyderabad, Tirupati, Raichur and Mantralaya, will shift back to Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) from February 1. A month ago, KSRTC had shifted all its services from KBS to Shanthinagar citing congestion because of ongoing Metro work at KBS.
“We were unable to handle the extra departures from Shantinagar. Hence we have shifted back to KBS,” said a senior KSRTC official. Around 120 buses from KSRTC’s express service will move back to KBS along with APSRTC services which were also shifted to Shantinagar. However, premium services like Multi Axle Volvo, Volvo, Sleeper, Rajahamsa will continue to operate from Shantinagar. Passengers, however, were miffed with the KBS as there is little space left for commuters to park vehicles. “At least Shantinagar had parking space in the TTMC. Vehicles cannot be parked in the Railway Station. They should have remained with the earlier,” said Tejas, a commuter.

s.yogendra January 30th, 2012, 04:11 AM NEKRTC to improve infrastructure
North Eastern Karnataka Transport Corporation, the State-run public transport undertaking, plans to strengthen its infrastructure and increase the headcount from the next financial year.
“We will add 400 buses and 200 routes to the schedules and hire more 500 people,” NEKRTC managing director G.N. Shivamurthy said in a release.
The corporation aims to run buses on 49.11crore km, and earn a revenue of Rs. 1,153.26 crore next year.
These buses and routes will be introduced in the NEKRTC's operational districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Bijapur.
In Gulbarga, the corporation plans to operate 200 city buses. Of this, 38 will be introduced in the first phase.
The corporation has nine divisions with 43 bus depots, 113 bus-stands, two training centres and a workshop. On Republic Day this year, the Gulbarga division was split into Gulbarga (East) and Gulbarga (West).
NEKRTC has provided bus connectivity to 4,335 villages in the 4,727 villages in the seven districts in its jurisdiction.
Villages without connectivity include 126 villages without motorable roads and 166 uninhabited villages.
It has increased its fleet to 3,987 from 2,027 in 2000. Apart from air-conditioned buses, the fleet includes buses of luxury brands such as Volvo and Corona.
The corporation runs buses for 12.5 lakh km and earns an average of Rs. 2.45 crore a day. This year's earnings stand at Rs. 716.41 crore, Rs. 69 crore more than last year. It employs 18,723 persons.
The corporation has issued subsidy passes to 23,25,827 senior citizens; 2,62,200 students; 33,000 persons with disabilities; 23,552 girl students in high schools; 482 freedom fighters; 16 wives or widows of freedom fighters and others. The State Government has provided Rs. 95 crore to the corporation, as per recommendations of the Dr. D.M. Nanjundappa committee report. This has strengthened the corporation, the release said.

engineer.akash January 30th, 2012, 02:59 PM Only people want KSRTC: R Ashoka
(http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mangalore/Only-people-want-KSRTC-R-Ashoka/articleshow/11683416.cms)
Jaideep Shenoy, TNN | Jan 30, 2012, 11.33AM IST
MANGALORE: Will this coastal city witness nationalisation of routes and entry of state-owned KSRTC into city and mofussil services? Not likely if one goes by observation of R Ashoka, minister for transport. His reason for this is simple: "While there is tremendous support from people for introduction of KSRTC city services after the success that our Volvo City service has generated, the elected representatives here are not willing to take a call on it."
A candid Ashoka told STOI that KSRTC is meeting resistance from all sides - be it from local elected representatives, officials, courts and even the local bus operators. "Only people are with us," Ashoka says, adding that this was amplified when KSRTC launched Volvo City Service from Mangalore to Manipal and Kasargod respectively. "The turnout of people for this event at short notice was the highest ever in the history of KSRTC," Ashoka said.
Barring VS Acharya, minister for higher education, who is also the district in-charge minister for Udupi, there has been little encouragement from other elected representatives to KSRTC operating services in the coastal districts that is dominated by private operators, Ashoka said. "They keep asking me to defer any decision citing one election or the other," he said, adding this could have to do with need to keep their local constituents happy.
Advocating need to give the choice to the people to decide on which service is better - those offered by KSRTC or the private operators, Ashoka lamented that despite being a state owned entity, KSRTC has to move the local RTA seeking permits to operate on any route. "The private operators move the courts at the slightest hint of trouble and the existing DM notification barring entry of buses to SBI terminus area is affecting us," Ashoka opined.
DC NS Channappa Gowda, chairman of RTA said the DM notification of 1992 could not be relaxed or withdrawn given that density of vehicles entering the central business district area of the city was too high. DC however assured Ashoka that RTA would take considered view of any application that KSRTC would move to start services outside the DM notified area. "I will personally come to inaugurate it once the RTA approves our permit," Ashoka noted.
engineer.akash January 30th, 2012, 03:00 PM M'lore: Nationalization of Routes - Minister Ashok Blames People's Representatives
(http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=128604)
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)
Mangalore, Jan 30: State transport minister R Ashok said that the popular demand for nationalization of routes in Dakshina Kannad and Udupi districts, and the aim of commencing operation of government bus services here, have not yet been met because of non-cooperation of people’s representatives. He was replying to questions posed by reporters during his visit to the city on Saturday January 28.
He said that Volvo bus services run by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation between Mangalore – Manipal – Kasargod route have got good response from the people, but lamented the fact that these services are of use to the higher strata of the society alone, and not to the poor people.
“Dr V S Acharya has shown some inclination for nationalization of bus routes in the coastal districts. But other peoples’ representatives, government officials, owners of private buses, and courts, have been blocking this under one pretext or the other,” he lamented. He said that the discretion as which mode they want to travel by, should be left to people, and pointed out that stay orders brought against the running of government buses by private bus owners have blocked his efforts. He also said that a notification issued by the deputy commissioner, who also is the district magistrate, which prohibits running of government buses to the bus stand here,is hindering the interests of the people. He felt that the government buses can run from the private bus stand, if the deputy commissioner eases this stricture.
After visiting the private bus stand near State Bank, the minister opined that this bus stand should have been moved out long back. When the reporters told him that the bus stand has been functioning in the hockey ground against the court orders, he wanted to know what the concerned people are doing about it.
engineer.akash January 30th, 2012, 04:31 PM Mangalore bus lobby too hot for me to handle: Ashoka
Published: Monday, Jan 30, 2012, 9:56 IST
By M Raghuram | Place: Mangalore | Agency: DNA
State home and transport minister R Ashoka had a tough time when he tried to deal with the private bus lobby of Mangalore, which is known for its arm-twisting and wheeling-dealing techniques.
“Your city’s private bus lobby is too strong and hot for me to handle. Except for higher education minister VS Acharya, none of the other elected representatives were supportive in introducing the KSRTC and mofussil services in Mangalore and Udupi,” Ashoka said.
“I am helpless as most of the political leaders in Mangalore are against the launch of KSRTC services,” he said.
He said that he did not know the reason behind this. “But I feel sorry for the commuters of Mangalore and Udupi because they have to put up with the one-upmanship of the private bus lobby,” he said.
“Here, KSRTC is treated like an outsider and the buses have been banned from entering the city due to flimsy reasons. The court has also imposed a stay order banning KSRTC buses from entering the city. This has not happened anywhere else in the state,” Ashoka pointed out.
After having talks with deputy commissioner NS Chennappa Gowda and the KSRTC officials about commencing KSRTC services in the city, he has appealed to the officials to take a final a decision at the Regional Transport Authority meeting, which will be held on February 11.

Bendre Nagara Sarige is a different case...Private bus operators were not allowed in twin cities....that's why they were forced to come together to form BTS after which they were given permit to operate for 5 years. They will be kicked out once BRTS makes its way..
If KSRTC is allowed in Mlore then i guess it would be hard for private buses to find passengers for their enormous amount of buses...

mangalore mania January 30th, 2012, 07:19 PM It will not be a big deal for KSRTC to enter Mangalore if there is a will with govt.. But my concern will they be able to maintain the quality of private buses in terms of timings and cleanliness. I am not talking about pvt buses from other part of the state.
I am also great fan of KSRTC in Mangalore, but i am concern about the points what i mentioned above.
If they are succeed in maintaining those then i bet you guys KSRTC will be theeeee BEST in country..
They can create a new benchmak in terms of quality of quality of service

MYS has no rajahamsa or airavat services to chikamgalur the city witch has no railway connectivity and KSRTC is much interested in connecting interstate services its time for them to change the KSRTC tag line from Namma Sarige Nimma Oorige to Namma Sarige Bere Rajyake :bash:

Actually there was Airavata Volvo service from CKM-MYS-CBE in early 2011 and i think it operated for few months, it was later terminated to MYS-CBE may be due to less patronage or road condition, KSRTC should have replaced this with RH or KV service

Totally agree. Giving a deluxe bus connectivity from CKM, Belur, Hassan to Mys is long pending. But actually, all the Rajahamsa buses operated in CKM-BNG route are from CKM depot only. (meaning even BNG depot ppl haven't put their R/H metal to CKM, although they are running BENZ buses) So, maybe CKM depot can take the initiative to start a Rajahamsa service to Mys. If they are going to get any new Rajahamsa, then maybe they can use that on the BNG route and re-deploy the older bus to Mys

That bus was operated by Mys depot; doing the run of Mys-CKM-Mys-CBE and reverse. The roads are very good. But the timings were utter crap on the Mys-CKM leg (dep: 2.30 am mys and 7am for CKM). KSRTC didn't even bother to load the Mys-CKM-Mys trip on to the booking website and no effort was made by ksrtc to publicise the service. The result ---> Failure

Since the distance is 180KMS, they can start KV services as they are primarily designed for short distance services, there is many service like you mentioned and are operating ex: BLR-Sringeri-BLR-Chennai-BLR and BGM-KLP-BGM-BLR-TPT-BLR-BGM so i think it is lack of interest of MYS depot to operate this service

Mys Depot currently doesn't have KV in its fleet. If they get some, it would be a nice idea. But the important point is : KSRTC should PUBLICISE the new service in their website and also give press releases in the local papers at both ends. Take the ex: of the Mys-Kottayam R/H; KSRTC has neither announced that in their webpage nor has given any press releases in local papers so far. They seem to be Bangalore centric.
BTW, Bangalore-Sadalaga Volvo reverted back to Rajahamsa and Bangalore-Shimoga-Sringeri KV reverted back to Rajahamsa. Pls add this to your earlier post

s.yogendra February 3rd, 2012, 04:41 AM Asked to cough up penalty, NWKRTC seeks waiver
Asked to pay a penalty of Rs. 72 lakh by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), which is in debt, has turned to the State Government for help.
According to sources in the HDMC, NWKRTC did not pay property tax for ten buildings in 2002-03, as well as subsequent years.
Last year, after councillors demanded action against all building owners in Hubli and Dharwad who had not paid property tax, the municipal authorities served notices on the defaulters, including NWKRTC.
The transport corporation was asked to pay a total of Rs. 87.75 lakh, which included pending taxes of Rs. 15.35 lakh and penalty of Rs. 72.4 lakh.
Cutting losses
“We somehow managed to pay the actual taxes within the specified period, but the big headache is the penalty,” said chairman of NWKRTC Mallikarjun Savakar.
The transport body was running under loss, but had improved to an extent in the last three years. “We managed to bring down annual loss from around Rs. 67.06 crore in 2007-08 to Rs. 30.44 crore last year. This fiscal, we plan to bring it to zero. We have also managed to bring down the cumulative loss from Rs. 318 crore to Rs. 223 crore. There is still a long way to go, however, and at this juncture, we are not in a position to pay the penalty,” he said.
NWKRTC requested the HDMC to waive the penalty but HDMC authorities expressed their inability to do so as it was out of their purview. The transport corporation has approached the Directorate of Municipal Administration seeking waiver. “We have received a positive response. We are hoping that the penalty will be waived,” Mr. Savakar said.

engineer.akash February 3rd, 2012, 10:28 PM Buses on both sides of MG Road soon (http://www.deccanherald.com/content/224449/buses-both-sides-mg-road.html)
Bangalore,Feb 3, 2012, DHNS:
BMTC, traffic police study feasibility of plying buses on narrow lanes in the area
City buses will soon ply on Avenue Road, Brigade Road, MG Road and Mission Road, according to M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police.
“The Metro station still does not have a concourse on the opposite side of MG Road. Once the work on second entry-and-exit kiosk is completed, Metro feeder buses will start plying on both sides of MG Road,” Saleem said on Friday. He was speaking at a conference on Intelligence Transport Solution in the City.
The Traffic police and BMTC have taken up a feasibility study on the impact of reintroducing BMTC services on the narrow lanes of the Central Business District.
S K Lohia, Officer on Special Duty, Urban Transport, said the Union government would bear 80 per cent of the detailed project report in cities which show willingness to implement Intelligent Transport Solution (ITS). He said the technology will be available for people in a matter of two months in Mysore.
The conference brought together the Japanese government and industry officials.
Lohia urged the Japanese companies to develop low-cost technologies specifically for India.
He added that the Union govenment would provide funds when foreign firms create manufacturing facilities and value addition in the country.
Lohia urged the Japan Internationl Co-operation Agency to assist the Ministry of Urban Development in creating a robust national architecture for development and implementation of ITS at the regional level.
The ITS will be tested on a pilot basis in Mysore, Bangalore, Hubli and Dharwad. Lohia agreed in principle to consider Mangalore and Gulbarga too, on a suggestion made by Prakash Mandoth, Infrastructure Head, FKCCI.
JnNURM
Lohia said Karnataka had the best record in utilisation of the funds available under waharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), at least in urban transport sector.
Presentations
During the conference, transport authorities from Bangalore, Mysore, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad gave presentations on existing road and metro rail transport systems in their cities. A video on Ahmedabad’s Janmarg Bus Rapid Transit System was applauded and many called for similar town planning laws in every major urban city.
V Manjula, Commissioner, Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) spoke about Bangalore’s rapidly deteriorating air, travel time and environmental quality.
“Road widening is not possible any more and is not desirable. This is where innovative concepts such as ITS come into play. Bangalore’s B-TRAC uses ITS and is a great success. The BMTC has called for tenders to implement technology,” she said.
Manjula called for better use of land and demand-based measures such as congestion and parking pricing in the City.
engineer.akash February 4th, 2012, 07:17 AM Centre to fund project reports for intelligent transport system (http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/article2857907.ece)
Announcement comes at concluding session of ITS seminar
The Union Urban Development Ministry will fund 80 per cent of the cost of preparing master plan/ detailed project report for intelligent transport system (ITS) in important cities across the country, including those in Karnataka.
Karnataka was keen on implementing ITS initially in three cities — Mysore, Bangalore and Hubli-Dharwad.
“Let the experience in these cities be pilot projects as Karnataka has been the role model for other,” the official said.
The seminar was attended by many big names in the field of electronics from Japan, which is keen on implementing ITS in India, particularly the southern States.
Addressing these companies, the official said that low-cost technology is abundantly available to develop ITS. “If you are keen on implementing ITS in India, you should deploy low-cost technology. The companies will not lose anything because the volumes of deployment are very high,” he said.
At the same time, the companies should explore to make the best utilisation of the existing infrastructure such as mobile telephone network, he suggested.
Also, the companies should be prepared to set up manufacturing units in India by creating Indian subsidiaries, as the country is keen on developing indigenous technology as well as creation of employment.
On the role of Japan International Cooperation Agency, which has been funding various projects in India, he urged the agency to fund certain pilot projects of ITS in India, to test the proof of concept.
The agency may fund preparation of detailed project reports and support the national architecture for ITS which is being developed by UDD. The next phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, which may be launched this year, will include funding ITS.
Commissioner, Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), Karnataka, V. Manjula, said that a few initiatives of ITS are being adopted in the State, including B-TRAC in Bangalore and the World Bank-funded ITS in Mysore. She said that integration of information and communication technology with the transport infrastructure, vehicles and users, will help people to make more informed travel choices even as it helps improve traffic flow.
Throughout the day, representatives from Japanese companies Nippon Koei, ITS Japan, Zero-Sum Wireless Solutions, East Nippon Expressway Company, Toshiba, Hitachi, Nagoya Electric Worksco, Mitsubushi Heavy Industries and Toyota Tshusho Electronics made presentations on different aspects of ITS.
Yasuhiro Okumura from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Taro Okawa from JICA were present.

s.yogendra February 8th, 2012, 04:50 PM KSRTC drive for teetotaller staff on board
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will soon be acquiring around 100 new breathalysers for all the four transport corporations in the state.
These breathalysers will be used by KSRTC officials to check alcohol level in staff, if consumed, while they are on duty in bus stands, check-posts, and also by-line staff who do random checks.
Currently KSRTC has approximately 60-70 breathalysers, which officials claim are insufficient, with the all the new depots and busses being added recently.
KSRTC currently has 72 depots and 7,599 vehicles plying in the state.
“We have increased the number of checking staff and with other increase of staff, it is time to invest on new machines,” said a senior KSRTC official.
The new machines will be less bulky from previous models and will be able to give the exact percentage of alcohol in the bloodstream.
“The old machines run on large batteries and are analog. They only have a red, green and yellow light to confirm if alcohol had been consumed and used to beep. The new machines will have digital screens which will display information about percentage of alcohol in the blood and other information,” an official added.
The requirements given by KSRTC for their own use is around 100 devices and the budget stated is approximately 15 lakh.
High-end alcometers with printer capabilities cost around `20,000 but KSRTC is looking to procure machines in the a lesser range of `4,000-`5,000, according to sources. The project is currently in the initial stages.http://ibnlive.in.com/news/ksrtc-drive-for-teetotaller-staff-on-board/228274-60-119.html

* The corporation has announced cash incentives each month for five technical staff if they improve fuel efficiency
* According to a circular issued by the technical department of KSRTC in Bangalore, the corporation spends nearly Rs. 775 crore a year on diesel to run its buses"
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced cash incentives for technical assistants of KMPL monitoring batch (a team working on improving fuel efficiency) working in bus depots coming under its jurisdiction if they improve fuel efficiency.
The cash incentives ranging from Rs. 100 (for improving mileage by 0.01 kmpl) to Rs. 4,000 (for 0.20 kmpl) will be given to five technical assistants each month.
The ‘cash incentive scheme' has been introduced on an experimental basis by the corporation to improve fuel efficiency.
The scheme will be in force from January 1 to June 30, according to sources in the KSRTC.
A circular issued by the technical department of KSRTC, Head Office, Bangalore, a copy of which is available with The Hindu , said the KSRTC spends nearly Rs. 775 crore per annum on diesel to operate its buses.
“It has become necessary for the corporation to increase fuel economy. One of the steps to achieve better mileage is by encouraging the technical staff by giving them cash incentives,” the department said.
The fuel efficiency of buses will be monitored daily at the depot and the daily report on fuel efficiency achieved will be sent to the line officers in the depot for their attestation. The report is subsequently sent to the respective divisional controller, according to the circular.
The fuel efficiency is calculated daily and the cumulative average fuel economy is calculated at the end of the month to award the incentive. The cash incentives go up depending on the fuel economy achieved.
Yardstick
The record for the previous month (December) will be taken as the yardstick for calculating the fuel efficiency achieved under the scheme for the month of January.
‘Save fuel' campaign
Meanwhile, the urban division of KSRTC has slipped into fuel-saving mode by launching the ‘Save fuel' campaign being observed from January 16 to February 15.
It has instructed its drivers to make efforts to increase fuel efficiency through good driving habits. They can get cash incentives of Rs. 500 a month and a certificate from the division.
Divisional Controller (Urban Division) M.N. Srinivas told The Hindu that 24,300 litres of diesel was needed for operating buses on intra-city routes. The number of trips here daily is about 6,400.
“We are expecting to save at least 1,000 litres of diesel this month. More fuel can be saved if our drivers adopt best practices,” he said.
The Mysore urban division has 774 drivers, 429 driver-cum-conductors and 453 conductors.
“The drivers have to show results every day and the fuel monitoring staff will make note of the total number of km run on the route every day to calculate the extent of fuel saved. Five drivers in each depot who save more fuel, will get the cash incentive of Rs. 500 each.”
* The scheme, launched on an experimental basis, will be in force from January 1 to June 30
* KSRTC urban division is offering cash incentives to drivers if they improve fuel efficiency

Now from Bangalore to Salem and back KSRTC Vaibhava has been running about 4 services from none earlier-and it has also introduced 2 Vaibhav services to Villupruam also from Bangalore
Seriously they know how to make revenue and when they get it

s.yogendra February 20th, 2012, 06:28 AM KSRTC plans wayside restaurants on highways
Seeks Rs. 20 crore from Government to start 10 such units
You are travelling by a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus in the night. The vehicle stops for dinner en-route near a highway restaurant.
However, looking at its condition, you do not dare get down and instead prefer to blunt your appetite with biscuits.
Such a situation will be a thing of the past if the State Government accepts a KSRTC proposal to build and manage state-of-the-art wayside passenger amenity centres. Besides providing quality refreshment and restrooms, the corporation will also earn revenue through such a plan.
KSRTC Managing Director N. Manjunatha Prasad told The Hindu : “We have proposed 10 wayside passenger amenity centres across State highways on an experimental basis. We have sought Rs. 20 crore from the Government. Depending on the success of the project, it will be replicated elsewhere either on our own or through a public-private partnership basis.”
Mr. Prasad, who recently took over the reins of the corporation, said the idea was conceived by Transport Minister R. Ashok, who is the chairman of KSRTC, after going through the condition of existing facilities and the plight of passengers.
While all major bus-stations run by the corporation as well as sister corporations — North West and North East KRTC — had restaurants, not all the buses entered the stations, he said. Also, heavy crowds in major bus-stations prevent passengers from using the facilities.
Though the exact locations to set up these units are yet to be finalised, prominent corridors where the corporation has considerable presence would be in the list, he said. They include Bangalore-Tirupati, Bangalore-Hyderabad, Bangalore-Chennai, Bangalore-Mangalore, Bangalore-Davangere, Bangalore-Shimoga and Bangalore-Mysore.
In fact, the corporation has the practice of ‘recognising' wayside private restaurants and authorising buses plying on the route to stop at these places.
However, not all passengers are happy about the facilities and services available at these places. The new amenity centres could cater to other travellers too. The corporation is of the opinion that at least 100 such centres are required across the State on important corridors.
Depending on the success of the project, it will be replicated elsewhere

Why should KSRTC deviate from their core business and enter into this segment which is already saturated and has a lot of Established players like Kamat n Adigas competing in this sphere ??? :ohno: For this venture to be profitable, KSRTC should attract even the private Buses, Tourist vehicles (vans and cabs) and the privately owned vehicles plying in this route. Now why should the general public ditch the Kamats n Adigas n come here for grub ??? Or more importantly, why would KSRTC provide free food for private Bus drivers also ??? Instead, KSRTC should enter into agreements with the existing and reputed hotels on these routes whereby they can also monitor the quality and PRICE of the food available to ppl (10rs per coffee at KADAMBAM KSRTC bus stand Maddur !!! that's way too expensive :bash:)

My point is, how will KSRTC's proposed move help improve this condition ? When a reputed private player, for whom its a perform or perish situation, is not able to provide the requisite facility; can we expect the Government's intervention, where ppl manning the hotel are on government payroll and give a s**t to ur s**tting experience  ), to improve anything by any stretch of imagination

schumi0101 February 26th, 2012, 07:02 PM The entertainment system fitted on the bus above, is it just a trial or are they planning to extend it to all other Club Classes as well? Buses on which routes have it so far?
ksrtc has this type of entertainment system installed in two buses on a trial basis. Depending on the feedback they may start installing this new entertainment system on the remaining club class...

Slow Monday morning. Spent a while on the AWATAR website, and have a few corrections in the list above.
Bangalore - Pune - 8 buses.
Bangalore - Chennai - 3 buses.
Bangalore - Mangalore - 2 buses
Bangalore - Belgaum - 4 buses.
So, updated total is 81 buses for KSRTC. And 8 for NWKRTC.
10 Benz buses are on:
Bangalore - Hyderabad - 2
Bangalore - Vijayawada - 2
Bangalore - Tirupathi - 1
Bangalore - Ernakulam - 4
Bangalore - Chennai - 1
Is Bangalore - Tirupathi Benz CC the yellow bus that KSRTC had for trial or did they change it to the new series?
Meant this one. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y2ewLcPdtvE/TbP11nX_GeI/AAAAAAAAAXE/XRkE_9HdhR0/s1600/gallery-img1.jpg
Thanks to maswath for the list.
The 30 buses on order are all MB or are there any Volvo in them?
The entertainment system is a nice idea but I think maintenance will be a big problem. I have had troubles with something as simple as AC vents. They keep opening/closing on their own. I'd rather that they ensure charging points are working for all rows.
Another thing, does anyone know how often the blankets given in Airavat are washed?
binaiks February 27th, 2012, 04:59 AM Is Bangalore - Tirupathi Benz CC the yellow bus that KSRTC had for trial or did they change it to the new series?
Its a new bus - the white one with stickers of a pram on its sides (and back). The trial bus was returned to Mercedes after the trial period.
maswath February 27th, 2012, 06:58 AM Bangalore - Pune - 8 buses.

In BLR-Pune search you get 4 buses which are for Mumbai
All my numbers are for pairs, for example BLR-MNG has 2 buses, you have to consider another 2 buses start from MNG also
BGM search will include BLR-BGM, BLR-Kolhapur, BGM-TPT and BGM-MAS buses also
Total current multi-axle fleet is 90 and the new 30 expected maybe MB as per news article

Aswath,
In BNG-MNG route, there are 2 pairs of services as you mentioned correctly. However, the bus that departs in the morning from Mangalore, returns at night from Bangalore. The other bus does the opposite. So the 2 pairs of services are run with 2 buses.
BNG-PNA has 3 pairs of services - so that makes for 6 buses. The 4th pair that shows up on search is actually the "Split" service of MYS-PNA service.
Similarly, BNG-CHN has 3 pairs of services, but all of them are single bus services.
schumi0101 February 27th, 2012, 04:02 PM Spotted an Ex-Mayura downgraded to a SKS doing a Bangalore-Hosur route I think. The A/C duct was still present at the top and the bus was looking too good to be an SKS :lol:
Unfortunately I was unable to take the pics as I was in another bus in the opposite direction. :bash: :bash:

JhonJ February 28th, 2012, 04:03 AM Minister drives bus, hits auto
Fisheries Minister Anand Asnotikar on Monday rammed a NWKSRTC bus into a goods carrier, during the launch of the bus in Karwar on Monday.
http://www.deccanherald.com/images/editor_images1/2012/02/27/state-ananad-asnotikar.jpg
The minister, after inaugurating the services on Karwar-Hassan and Karwar-Hubli-Manipal routes, volunteered to drive the bus to a short distance. Even as the gathering watched, the minister crashed the bus into a stationary goods auto. The painting on the new bus peeled off.
An NWKSRTC staffer said the minister was not supposed to drive the vehicle without a driving licence.
“If any of the drivers had committed the same mistake, they would have been fined Rs 20,000,” he told Deccan Herald.
District statusThe minister, later addressing the gathering, said the Uttara Kannada district was large and could be divided into two. It is not possible for one district in-charge minister to ensure development of Uttara Kannada district which has 11 taluks, said Asnotikar, who is also the district incharge minister.

ss87 March 2nd, 2012, 12:11 PM Travelled by KA-18-F-542 between Bangalore and Hassan monday evening-was in the left side seat-the bus was from CKM Depot and was running to chikmaglur
I loved the way the bus was driven-the driver stuck to the lane in the lane strech till Bellur cross after which he stopped for break-couldnt hear much of honking in the entire route(Almost nil)-there wasnt any unenecessary braking or overtakes made anywhere-a comfortable journey made for passengers
The bus left majestic at 4:15PM and when it crossed Gorgunte palya it was 4:50Pm-Nelamangla bye-pass was crossed at 5:10PM and a smooth ride with a brake for almost 15 mins I was dropped at the Police station circle in Hassan at 8:05PM-186 kms covered in 3hrs 55 mins flat and actual running time being 3 hrs 40 mins(15 mins was for the brake)
Return journey was in Horanadu-Bangalore Vaibhav yesterday -my 1st journey by a Vaibhav class bus-comfortable seats and pick up was good-the ticket cateogorized it as Semi-deluxe-bus was 50% full at Hassan and about 15 more got in at channarayapatna-came almost at speed of Rajahamsa(There was a Dharmastala-mantralaya Rajahamsa following it but never got to overtake)-Fare was Rs.166 as against 139 by an Express-left at 2:10Pm from Hassan and reached Nelamangla at 4:50PM after a 15 minute break enroute-Yeshvantapur was crossed at 5:15PM but then jams at Sujatha ensured we reach majestic only at 6PM-a good journey and driving overall-seriously enjoyed the spacing done during overtakes
Kudos to both the drivers for making my journey comfortable

Also noticed an interesting thing in bus routes of Hassan-they have given different numbers for up and down services like trains Eg: 201 was Dairy Circle to Kandalli whereas 202 was for Kandalli to Dairy circle-similarly 103 was Old bus stand to new bus stand whereas 104 was new bus stand to old bus stand

s.yogendra March 11th, 2012, 07:26 AM KSRTC's new services
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be introducing new bus services from Bangalore to Chennai, Tirupati, Nellur, Pune, Kodaikenal and Mumbai from March 30. These are in addition to the existing bus services operated by the corporation. The bus services to Chennai (Rajahamsa), Tirupati, Nellur, Kodaikanal and Mumbai (Borivali) will commence from March 30. The service to Chennai (non–AC sleeper), Pune, and Mumbai Central will commence from April 4, a KSRTC release stated.http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-karnataka/article2983573.ece
s.yogendra March 11th, 2012, 07:26 AM Road transport workers' unions to stage dharna on Tuesday
Members of workers' unions of four road transport corporations namely Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, North-Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and North-Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation that are affiliated to the AITUC, INTUC, BMS, and Akhila Karnataka Rajya Raste Noukarara Mahamandali, and KSRTC SC/ST Officer and Workers Welfare Union will stage a dharna on March 13 near KSRTC Central Office on Kengal Hanumanthaiah Road in Bangalore.
The KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation general secretary H.V. Ananthasubba Rao, INTUC leaders A.V. Borashetty and K.R. Vijayakumar, noukarara mahamandali's Gangadharaiah, BMS's Nagabhushana and SC/ST Union's Mallikarjuna Murthy told presspersons that the 1.10 lakh workers in four road transport corporations were deprived of basic labour rights and privileges.
Mr. Ananthasubba Rao said 33,000 trainees were being paid Rs. 3,500 a month for several years now because for the past 16 years the government and the management had refused to sign any reasonable agreement with the worker's federation or hold any negotiations with them.
Mr. Rao alleged that the managements were taking unilateral decisions on wages and other demands of workers.
He urged the government to re-introduce the system of reaching a consensus on wages and other demands of the workers by way of holding bilateral talks.
Mr. Ananthasubba Rao said that in the past 16 years over a 1,000 workers have been arrested on several charges and they have been deprived of their rights.
He said that the managements always resorted to police or courts instead of the Labour Department, which settled the workers' disputes till 1995 after which “the reign of terror was unleashed by the managements”.
Describing the appalling condition in which drivers, conductors, mechanics and other staff members work in the road transport corporations, Mr. Rao said that many of them are punished by way of imposing a cut in their increments or postponing increments, suspending or dismissing workers.
He said such a kind of suppression was unheard of in any government institution in the country.
On an average, every year almost 2,000 workers were dismissed.
In this age of high wages and salaries, Mr. Rao and Mr. Lakshman said that drivers and conductors who work for 12 to 14 hours a day get a meagre wage of Rs. 5,500 a month besides bata charges.
They said that the union leaders and workers were facing 9,400 cases in various courts for conciliation and adjudication.
The managements had collected fine totalling Rs. 2 crore from workers by way of deducting the amount from their wages. Mr. Rao said that there were about 5,500 women workers who were being put to a lot of hardship by officers, especially men who even subject them to sexual harassment.
He said that the federation was in possession of CDs which had recorded the harrowing tales of women workers. He also said that Transport Minister R. Ashok had not held a single meeting with them.
Mr. Lakshman said that a driver had to do 22 trips between J.J. Nagar and City Market despite heavy traffic on Mysore Road. By the time a driver is 40 years old, he gets all diseases, he added.
Workers say they have been deprived of basic rights and privileges
Union leaders say the management has not held talks on workers issues with them for 16 yearshttp://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-karnataka/article2983576.ece

BANGALORE: Armed Armed with emission certificates for its fleet of 7599 buses and supported by a strict checking regime, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has thrown an open challenge to citizens to spot and report a smoke emitting KSRTC bus.
Citizens can earn a reward of Rs 1000 by reporting the registration number of the polluting bus to the corporation. As a part of its initiative to ensure low emissions from its buses, KSRTC had earlier introduced this scheme with a reward of `200 which over the years has been raised to Rs 1000 as the checking schedules become stricter.
The Road Transport Corporation (RTC) has an extensive fleet checking regime which ensures that all 7599 buses are checked once a month for smoke emission levels inspite of the fact that the Motor Vehicles Act states that the fleet must be checked once in six months. This has given KSRTC the confidence reward citizens for reporting polluting buses.
Also, the RTC in the past few years has been researching the use of Ethanol and bio-diesel as an economic and environment friendly alternative to fossil fuels.
1000 buses currently run on these eco-friendly fuels and ten depots including Doddabellapur (2005) are already opertional and a further 15 more have been identified for blending Diesel with Ethanol.
This has resulted in a lowering of emissions by almost 20-40% for KSRTC.
Buses also use various other technologies for improving emission levels like fuel additives and other patented technologies currently operational in Depot-1 in Bangalore.
KSRTC is also experimenting with water induction technologies which depending on the engine can result in power and fuel efficiency. “Water injection may also be used to reduce carbon monoxide emissions,” said an official.
“Once a person lodges a complaint with the local city depot or bus stand, the RTC will run another check on the bus number mentioned and if the emission check carried out proves that levels are beyond the prescribed 65 HSU (Hartridge Smoke Unit) the person will be eligible for the award,” said Latha, PRO of KSRTC.

Cosmicbliss March 14th, 2012, 04:29 PM Hi guys I've seen buses abroad with toilets as in the Greyhound bus service in USA and Spatco in the Middle East, but I've hardly ever seen those buses in India. Can't KSRTC or some other agency, maybe even private agency, introduce these kind of buses in India? I'm really curious to know we hardly see such buses in India. Is it the cost factor? :ohno:
schumi0101 March 14th, 2012, 05:10 PM ^^ I remember seeing a post here in which a Merc Benz from Parveen travels having flush toilet inside the bus. Besides the toilet, the bus also has a state of the art coffee machine and an inbuilt refrigerator.
Yes, cost factor applies here however, civic sense plays a major role here in which we fair very badly. :bash:
However if this system is introduced on long route buses, it would be of a huge convenience to the passengers.

I am recommending this to KSRTC as I feel they always take the initiative in all things like this. Also, there is no KSRTC sleeper bus service on Pune-Bangalore/Mumbai-Bangalore route. There is only Raj Travels and people like mt mom can't travel by normal way so sleeper is a must. KSRTC should really start it. I don't know how to put this across to them. I am not satisfied with Raj Travels.

ss87 March 19th, 2012, 06:32 PM Travelled by KSRTC Volvo from Bangalore to Balehonnur in 18th march-just a gist report
Reached majestic bus stand at 9:45Pm thanks to the AC marcopolo and scanty traffic a surprise for sunday-my bus was scheduled at 10:30PM(2227 as per ticket)
Majestic bus stand was chaotic-the 10Pm Rajahamsa to Sringeri were wating for the passengers and clock-the Dharmstala rajahamsas were right next to each other(About 4 of themn) and conductors shouting out their time standing next to it-the Vaibhava to Kukke subramanya left and another took its place
Among the chaos at 9:55Pm an Airavath danced its way through in its elegant style like a majestic white elephant-my bus the 2227 Sringeri-the door opened and I boarded it-the 10Pm Sringeri Rajahamsa left and my bus reversed into the empty bay it left
passengers boarded-time ticked-bus was almost full-tried to sleep but waited for blanket-AC effect fantastic-water botlle and blankerts were given at 10:35Pm-i closed my eyes-felt bus was moving-woke up-clock said 10:55PM-we were exiting the chaotic majestic
Had quite a good sleep-felt the dance-wokeup-we were entering Channarayapatna bus stand-Time was 01:10AM-a good 2hrs 20 mins only for the 140 kms ride(5 mins we waited at jalahalli cross too)
started at 01:25AM and I slept again-woke up for dance again and this time it was chikmaglur bus stand at 3AM-1.5 hrs for 100kms-we left from CKM at 3:20AM-stopped at Aldur again and I was surprised for 3 passengers got down here-We overtook the 10Pm rajahamsa and the 9:30Pm rajahamsa along with an express bus -heard conductor call out Balehonnur and woke up to get down-the single passenger to get down-04:45AM-Exact 5 hrs to cover the 300km strech without much disturbances and good sleep except for some 2-3 sudden breaks in middle-A good journey
Of course bus journey at night has its toll-compensated by 1.5 hrs sleep in morning and another 1.5 hrs sleep in afternoon

* I-T Department freezes their bank accounts; services may be hit
* The State government has requested the Union Ministries concerned to withdraw the declassification order.
With the Income Tax (I-T) Department freezing the bank accounts of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), bus services in the State are likely to be hit in the next two or three days.
“Bank accounts of the KSRTC and the BMTC have been frozen as they failed to pay Rs. 23 crore and Rs. 39.77 crore income tax respectively for the assessment year 2009-10,” said sources in the I-T Department. The corporations, which earlier had the status of ‘charitable institutions' were declassified by the I-T Department on the grounds that they were engaged in commercial activities, leading to the present crisis.
Sources in the corporations, acknowledging that the bank accounts were frozen on Friday, said weekly advance payments towards fuel, made every Saturday to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., had already been affected. “If we do not make the advance payment, IOCL may stop supplying fuel in two or three days, and that will affect services,” sources said. The corporations are also in a bind over depositing daily operational revenue collections. While the KSRTC earns nearly Rs. 5.5 crore, the BMTC earns about Rs. 3 crore. The freeze also affects hundreds of other financial transactions, including payment to vendors and the like, sources said.
The complete restriction on bank transactions has come at a time when appeals challenging the demand notice as well as the declassification are pending before the appellate authority of the I-T Department.
The I-T Department, in its order cancelling their registration as charitable institutions, said a new provision in Section 2 (15) of the Finance Act makes commercial activities non-charitable if income from commercial activities in the previous year exceeds Rs. 10 lakh.
The road transport corporations, the department said, were also hiring out buses, leasing commercial spaces and charging for displaying advertisements on buses. The activities are purely commercial and the exemption granted under Section 11 was liable to be cancelled, it said.
While the KSRTC declared a profit of Rs. 57 crore, the BMTC declared a profit of Rs. 55 crore for the assessment year 2009-10.
The department also disallowed depreciation claims of Rs. 162 crore and Rs. 32.76 crore by these corporations.
‘Regressive move'
Terming the department's move regressive, sources in the corporation said they were compelled to undertake commercial activities to sustain operations and augment services.
The State government has also stepped in to resolve the crisis. The Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister are learnt to have written to the Union Ministries concerned to withdraw the notices and the declassification order.
Sources said the department was wrong in removing the ‘charitable institution' status of these corporations. Besides, the calculation of taxable income too was wrong as depreciation was disallowed. The value of buses depreciated every year and the department should have taken note of this aspect.
* Corporations lose ‘charitable institution' status
* They have not paid income tax for 2009-10

It is showing up for reservation only in the Hubli-Chennai direction. It is not showing up on the opposite direction. Guess they got a pair of buses - but they are yet to update the opposite trip. Since the Hubli-Chennai trip would be landing up at Chennai only around 1300hrs, the return trip would also have a night departure from Chennai.

I spotted the last gold class bus at around 4am. Can this be the second bus from Chennai...? :?

binaiks March 28th, 2012, 05:11 PM Last night I was hanging out at a Coffee day on NH-4. I spotted 6 Gold Class buses b/w the span of 00:30am to 4:30am. Unfortunately lights on the destination boards were switched off and it was too dark to see the routes on which these buses were on.
I spotted the last gold class bus at around 4am. Can this be the second bus from Chennai...? :?
The Gold Class services touching Bangalore are:
1. Belgaum-Bangalore-Chennai (both ways at Bangalore around 2100~2200)
2. Belgaum-Bangalore-Tirupati (Towards Tirupati at around 7 am, and return around 10pm)

NWKRTC has received atleast 10 Gold Classes - 4 buses to Chennai, 4 to Hyderabad and 2 to Tirupati. 6 buses with Belgaum and 4 with Hubli.

engineer.akash March 30th, 2012, 07:22 AM More AC buses to hit the road in Mysore from April 5
Comfortable:The KSRTC operates over 415 trips of AC buses daily in the city.— Photo: M.A. SRIRAM
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is likely to introduce more air-conditioned Volvo buses in the city in April and May. Reason: soaring temperature and holiday season.
The KSRTC operates over 415 trips of AC buses daily in the city and adjoining tourist destinations. Thirty-six Volvo AC buses ply on five routes — Chamundi Hills (nine schedules), Nanjangud (five schedules), Srirangapatna (three schedules), Yelwal (three schedules) and Infosys (15 schedules) in Hebbal industrial area. There are some services to Hebbal and BEML Nagar routes too.
KSRTC Divisional Controller (Urban) M.N. Srinivas told The Hindu that the number of trips of AC buses would go up from April 5. “We also run AC buses to Brindavan Gardens at Krishnaraja Sagar during summer. Our drivers get overtime allowance if the number of trips on the designated routes is increased following demand from commuters,” he said.
The marriage season also falls in April and May and the KSRTC expects more commuters to the city. Many tourists may also arrive here in the coming weeks to spend summer vacation.
“All these reasons have worked in favour of introducing more number of trips of AC buses in the city and surrounding places. Commuters can escape the summer heat (to some extent) while travelling in the cool confines of the AC buses,” said sources.
Mysore is the second city after Bangalore to have luxury public transport service. The premium bus services were introduced in November 2007. Following good patronage to inter-city long-distance AC bus services, they were introduced for city services on a trial run and regularised subsequently. The long-chassis 38-seater AC buses come with automatic gears and rear engine.

engineer.akash March 30th, 2012, 09:28 AM Bus owners may unite for survival in Karnataka
Stung by the branded services of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and its other avatars in the districts, private bus operators are mulling over corporatising their operations by pooling their resources.
Private operators run over 8,000 vehicles in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Chitradurga, DK, Udupi, Bellary, Davanagere, Shimoga, Tumkur, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya and parts of Northern Karnataka districts.
“If we are not able to corporatise and operate under an umbrella organisation, I do not think we can survive for long. The KSRTC and its four sister organisations preside over 28,000 vehicles and all are less than three years old. This makes a perfect condition for the growth of the government or quasi government sector transport to flourish,” said Rajavarma Ballal, president of the State Private Bus Owners’ Federation.
But where do the private operators stand?
“Unfortunately, in the private sector each bus owner thinks for himself. Even if he is a single bus owner, he is not willing to join the corporatisation stream … as he is highly indebted to a bank or financier, while the KSRTC or any other state-run transport corporation in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and other states are flushed with central funds like JNNURM,” he said.
“I feel it may make sense for private operators if they are assured of returns in a corporatised operation. But since the KSRTC is towering above private operators who are badly fragmented, that is not possible,” said Bhaskar Salian, president of the Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators’
Association which has over 3000 buses under its banner.
Rabindra Nayak, who represents private bus transporters in Udupi, said corporatised private operations could work through a combined booking mechanism.

Feedback forms were being given by KSRTC for quite some time now. I remember filling one such form 2yrs ago when the Rajahamsa Compact Seat bus was introduced. However, its a very good move by KSRTC as this would help them understand the needs of the passengers and inturn serve us better...

bk3494 April 1st, 2012, 04:06 AM BANGALORE: After being the pioneer in introducing various customer friendly measures, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) may introduce internet usage facilities through Wireless Technology or Wifi for passengers on its premium services.
According to sources in the KSRTC, the corporation is in the last stages of finalising a service provider for the services and are currently negotiating with two companies, who have shown interest. “We are in the process of gathering data and will be taking a decision soon,” said a senior official referring to the process of mapping customer profiles and usage across various sectors.
He added that KSRTC was also looking at placing individual television screens in the buses aided with satellite television accessibility. However, whether to provide the services free or to charge extra remains a question.”
Charging separately can be a hassle of course, it currently makes more sense to absorb the costs as they will not be staggering,” another official added. KSRTC may include the service cost as an optional item in the ticket price at the time of booking. Also hinting at further plans of introducing new buses, the official added that KSRTC was considering the concept of buses which would include pantry and toilet facilities. Such buses are already operational in the Bangalore - Chennai sector but are currently considered expensive by many regular travellers.

s.yogendra April 3rd, 2012, 05:11 AM KSRTC neglecting public comfort, says Ramdas
The suburban bus-stand in the city, completed with funding under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), came under flak from the elected representatives, who alleged that the original plan had been changed with emphasis on commerce rather than passenger amenities.
The suburban bus-stand is the main spot for inter-State and intra-State services of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). Built and modernised at a cost of Rs. 23.53 crore, it was inaugurated on September 10, 2010.
But Minister for Medical Education S.A. Ramdas and A.H. Vishwanath, Mysore MP, who paid a visit to the bus-stand on Monday, cited violation of norms and dilution of passenger amenities for pursuing commercial gains.
Mr. Ramdas noted that the cloak room meant for travelling public had been shifted to the basement, and the waiting room had been let out to retail shopkeepers. He said shifting the cloak room defied logic as elderly citizens and general public, who would be tired after a strenuous journey, would not want to lug their luggage to the basement for depositing it there. Mr. Ramdas directed the officials to submit the original plan to him, and instructed the officials to rectify the lacunae.
Mr. Vishwanath was upset with the “lopsided” priorities of the authorities, and complained that passenger comfort had not been given priority.
The KSRTC was more keen on earning revenue from the commercial complex constructed at the bus terminal, he alleged.
He rued the absence of rest rooms and other facilities for bus drivers and conductors, and alleged that the contactors were riding roughshod over the KSRTC and the public.
It was also noted that the food at the local restaurant was expensive and beyond the reach of the common people while soft drinks were being charged at a rate higher than the maximum retail price. The Minister conducted a meeting with the KSRTC officials and sought a detailed report and clarifications on some of their findings during the spot inspection. The KSRTC authorities were directed to inquire into the complaints pertaining to vehicle parking.
Mr. Ramdas will convene a meeting with Deputy Commissioner P.S. Vastrad to set right the anomalies. The meeting will be held some time next week.http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-karnataka/article3275343.ece

Special bus takes tourists on a trip to Hampi, Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal, Bijapur
The North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) has specially designed two buses - Vijaya Ratha - to take tourists on a trip of historical places in the limits of Bijapur, Bidar and Hospet.
The interiors of Vijaya Ratha (R), the special bus launched to boost tourism. DH PhotosVijaya Ratha, starting its journey from places of historical interest in Hampi every day, will take Indian and international tourists to such places in Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal and Bijapur.
The bus has been designed in such a way that the interiors give a feel of Hampi’s heritage.
Officials of NEKRTC said that after G N Shivamurthy took over as managing director in July 2011, the Corporation had seen an increase in its earnings.
The earnings in 2011-12 stood at Rs 966.82 crore, an increase of Rs 103 crore over the previous year. The losses have come down during the period, the officials said.
The number of NEKRTC buses has increased from 3,792 to 4,074 to provide better services to passengers, officials said.
The Corporation has also taken many initiatives for the welfare of its employees.
These include a library in the head office and a proposal to start a newsletter titled ‘Eshanya Vahini’.
The newsletter will keep the staff informed about the developments in NEKRTC, offer health tips, legal awareness, general knowledge and will have articles by noted writers.
Among the eco-friendly measures undertaken by the new MD are a park in the Hagaribommanahalli depot.
Such parks will also come up at the Jewargi, Koppal, Humnabad and Bijapur bus stands. New bus stands are planned in Lingasugur and Shahpur.
Officials said that Shivamurthy has initiated a group insurance scheme for the employees under which the family members of any officer or staffer who dies in the service years will get a compensation of Rs three lakh.

engineer.akash April 3rd, 2012, 08:03 AM Commuters unhappy over Volvo fare hike on M’lore-Manipal route[/B]
Udupi, 02 Apr 2012: Volvo fare hike from Mangalore- Udupi- Manipal has disappointed commuters as they wait for A.C bus to beat summer heat.
The KSRTC’s decision to hike the bus fare for Mangalore-Udupi and Mangalore-Manipal Volvo buses has come as a disappointment to the commuters because most of the people traveling from Mangalore to Udupi or Manipal wait for the a/c Volvo buses to beat the scorching summer heat.
The Volvo bus fare from Mangalore-Udupi has been increased from Rs 65 to Rs 80 while Mangalore- Manipal fare has been increased from Rs 70 to 80.
This sudden and sharp increase of about Rs 15 has not been taken well by the passengers, who say that traveling by Volvo buses has become a costly and an unaffordable affair.
A bank employee who travels by Volvo bus everyday says that he has to shell out additional Rs 30 per day, if he wants to go home in Volvo. “I have learnt that the fares of other Volvo routes have not been increased.
Why only the fare for this route has been increased,” he questioned. The students and other daily commuters demand the officials to hike the price judiciously and scientifically, in a way that nobody feels it to be a burden.
Meanwhile, there are a section of people who feel that the bus fare has been hiked only to help the private bus operators who had been largely affected after the introduction of Volvo bus service in the region.
DC promises
“The number of passengers is usually more during April, May and June (Peak season), so we increase fares just for these three months. It is being followed every year according to the direction of the central office, for all three kinds- Volvo, Rajahamsa and A/C sleeper coach buses.
Fares will be decreased to average from July 1,” said Divisional Traffic Controller M Ramesh. “There is no intention to help private bus owners,” he clarified.

s.yogendra April 3rd, 2012, 04:36 PM KSRTC EMPLOYEES DEMAND BETTER PAY, BASIC AMENITIES
The KSRTC Employees’ Federation has urged for a revision of their salaries and better basic amenities to the employees, along with the demand for stopping the harassment meted out by the senior officers.
Federation President K.S. Sharma, who put forth the demand while speaking at the divisional convention of KSRTC employees at M.L. Vardha-manaiah Bhavan on Sri Harsha Road in city yesterday, pointed out that the KSRTC employees, especially the drivers and conductors were working under very harsh conditions and hence, they needed better amenities.
“Despite being a government-owned institution, the employees of KSRTC are following unconstitutional and anti-workers policies,” he said and added that a total of 1.10 lakh employees are working in the four divisions of the KSRTC, most of them being exploited by the employers.
“KSRTC has been earning 15% more than other State government employees. But, the management has not revised salary for the last 16 years,” Sharma alleged and claimed that the KSRTC employees were getting 30% less compared to employees of other departments.
“Working hours have been enhanced from eight hours a day to 16 hours, without paying any over-time compensation. Even clerical and mechanical staff are working overtime,” he said.
Sharma also deplored the KSRTC management for denying transport facility to the employees. "Even women employees, who work late at night have to arrange for their own transport," he said and called upon employees to be aware of their rights and stand against exploitation. Sharma slammed the authorities for asking employees to refrain from taking part in conventions.
Labour leader (AITUC) H.R. Sheshadri, speaking on the occasion, said that the KSRTC management board was following “Hitler policy” against its employees and snatching away the workers’ rights.
KSRTC Staff and Workers Fede-ration President Mallaiah, Gen. Secretary H.V. Ananta Subbarao and others were present at the conventionhttp://www.starofmysore.com
