I saw this building when I was at San Francisco! So i give it a 10!

well its shure an interesting design and shape but i only gave it 4.5/10. this is because i think that the top looks to bulky and the materials used have aged badly. Maybe re clad it in marble...???

An unusual building in the city but doesn't look quite good enough.

The Transamerica Pyramid distinguishes the already unique and picturesque San Fransisco skyline, a true icon of the bay area as well as one of my favorites.... 9/10

I gave it 9/10 because not only is the design unique and very recognisable for SF but a great looking scraper.

Iono if there was any, just the planned height of 1,150 ft. I think the design would have been much or less the same. Tho it didn't get trough coz of the city planning commision - supposedly it would block the view from Nob Hill or so.

Nice and interesting design, like a thin and tall version of the Cheops Pyramid in Giza or even the one at Sunway Pyramid! :D

But the building looks old though, are there any plans to clad the Transamerica and "modernize" its facade?

6,5/10 Not that great. Kind of reminds me of that awfull hotel out of use in Pyong Yang/North Korea. Fact is that it is one of the main structures known around the world of SF.

I've never been particularly fond of 1970's architecture, and this is a prime example of why. The Transamerica Pyramid is bland, ugly, colorless, and radiates a sense of outdated ideas. This is one of the worst skyscrapers I've ever seen.

From an engineering perspective it's excellent - textbook stuff on how to build a skyscraper in an active earthquake zone... but from a aesthetic design point of view, yeah, it's horrible. lol. Concrete, corners and flat panes make for quite a grim end product.

I am not the biggest fan of this building but i don't completely hate it either my decision to vote it a 7.5 is based on my sole opinions.

firstly the shape is different but not too complex which makes it iconic and that is a huge plus, the wings are good at breaking the structure up and stopping it being monotonous although i feel in my personal opinion they should have been a little smaller maybe not length but on the horizontal axis.

next the base imo isn't that bad i like the earthquake proof triangular space frame tybe base and it is better than continuing the horrid brutalist concrete facade that makes up the majority of the tower, on virtually all towers it is hated by the majority.

That said the night lighting, Iconicness and functionality and form that it tapers skywards limiting its presence are all good qualities and with a reclad this tower would possibly be a 10 in my books (if done correctly)

question, at the top usable floor, what is the floor area? :)

Nearly nine years late..but I believe the top usable floor before the 212 foot spire at the top is 45 feet by 45 feet. I also think the largest floor is the fourth or fifth floor, which is 145 feet by 145 feet, if memory serves.
