Kanto October 6th, 2011, 12:34 AM Kanto, the main lobby is located on 57th street, in case you didn´t noticed its former name was "Carnegie 57", use "One57" and people won´t confuse. ;)
Well, okay then, I'll use One 57
Or even better, 1 57 :cheer:
kingsc October 6th, 2011, 12:34 AM The building in the bottom left corner is right next to 0ne57 isn't it?

The building's name is One57. Not 157, not 1 57, not One Five Seven, not One Fifty Seven, not One Hundred Fifty Seven. One57. It's not that fucking hard.

SanMiguel October 6th, 2011, 02:23 PM Ok thanks. I had to makes sure before I called that picture really old lolI didn't say that it is a recent pic :)
I just found it yesterday and i would like to know if, by any chance,
somebody will stay at Le Parker Meridien Hotel in very near future.
Because i believe that would be the best vantage point for fresh views of One57.
At least for all who only can access the hotel.
An office in highfloor of Carnegie Hall Tower would be a much better vantage point, of course!
But i think we don't have any forumer here with such luck, otherwise we would already have seen such pics :)
If i had more time and money right now then i would come over and book a room there...
but unfortunately i have to wait at least till Jan2012 b4 i get holidays :(
PS: Nonetheless i appreciate all the new pics of Dino and all others !

LiverpoolLad October 6th, 2011, 07:57 PM Progress is looking very good, I can't wait to see it finished next time i'm in NYC
600West218 October 7th, 2011, 02:38 AM As of Thursday both cranes still up. However they need to jump the original one soon. If they don't then maybe they are taking it down.

Ni3lS October 11th, 2011, 08:46 PM Sigh..
Hull October 11th, 2011, 09:30 PM Has cladding appeared yet?
azn_man12345 October 11th, 2011, 10:04 PM The cladding is on site and there was one site that reported cladding was up ("getting it's skin from the ground up" or something to that effect), but so far we have not seen it.
Kanto October 11th, 2011, 11:04 PM Here I have my new roof height construction diagram:
http://i52.tinypic.com/299ylt.jpg
1WTC = 327 meters or 1074 feet out of 418 meters or 1371 feet
4WTC = Approximately 208 meters or 682 feet out of 298 meters or 977 feet
1 57 = Approximately 133 meters or 436 feet out of 306 meters or 1005 feet
(Note: I used the 418 meter figure for 1WTC when measured from the lowest above ground entrance and I used the 298 meter figure for 4WTC.)
azn_man12345 October 11th, 2011, 11:08 PM You don't need to post your silly diagram one the One57 thread just because 1WTC got a height increase.
DinoVabec October 11th, 2011, 11:11 PM Again "157" and again without diagram roof height explanation..It's like people talkin' to themselves here..Promises for nothing..
Kanto October 11th, 2011, 11:11 PM ^^ 1 57 got one too. It's 8 meters taller than it was in my last diagram

I apologize, I've thought I would have mentioned that it's roof height but I think I have mistaken it for the diagrams I posted in the 1WTC thread. Now it is written on the top of my diagram post that it is about roof height. Again, I apologize
azn_man12345 October 11th, 2011, 11:16 PM ^^ 1 57 got one too. It's 8 meters taller than it was in my last diagram

Valkyre October 13th, 2011, 12:18 PM once one57 tops out that view will be outstanding!! Wow what a picture! Amazing :)
PDC1987 October 13th, 2011, 06:52 PM It's amazing that One57 is going to rise so far above CitySpire Center, Carnegie Hall Tower, and Metropolitan Tower.
And speaking of that view from the park, It's also a relief, as none of those 3 towers are notably attractive.
kdotcarter October 14th, 2011, 07:22 PM It's been pretty gloomy for the past few days in NYC. These guys are adding those floors pretty quickly. In a few weeks I won't be able to see them working.

kingsc October 14th, 2011, 11:34 PM Wow this floor plates are small. Uhm, where are the stair and elevator shafts? (core)
I was looking for the elevator shafts too. And we've known for a long time, that there's wasn't going to be a core.
Kanto October 14th, 2011, 11:50 PM ^^ A supertall without a core? That isn't very safe. I wouldn't want to live in a supertall without a core :ohno:
Hull October 15th, 2011, 12:24 AM There's loads of supertalls without cores, there's different options that a concrete core. Besides this building is concrete not steel (well it's re-enforced) so the strength is much more stronger
DinoVabec October 15th, 2011, 01:03 AM ^^ A supertall without a core? That isn't very safe. I wouldn't want to live in a supertall without a core :ohno:
If it wouldn't be safe, this building wouldn't be under construction..
oilmanjr October 15th, 2011, 04:18 AM ^^ Exactly. But where is the shaft for stairs/elevators?
diablo1 October 15th, 2011, 05:18 AM ^^ Exactly. But where is the shaft for stairs/elevators?
I'm guessing that it is under the wooden platform to the left of the floorplate in these photos... The platform seems to be built through the floor, indicating that there is a rectangular opening in the concrete in that area.
The only other place it could be would be behind the crane in the photos... But I don't think there is enough space there, and it wouldn't make sense to put the elevators near the outside edge of the building (that is very valuable window space). So under the wooden platform would be my best guess.
rencharles October 15th, 2011, 05:21 AM Thank you for these photos dud. We are very happy to be able to have this great view, all thanks to your pics. You are our hero! lol
kingsc October 15th, 2011, 05:21 AM There are none. You want to get to the next floor, then you got to go through the window lol.
oilmanjr October 15th, 2011, 07:00 AM http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6161/6244154120_8e05e7f2ef_b.jpg
Are those steel columns?
So you are saying the shaft is that part in the center where the wood is coming out of the floor?
SanMiguel October 15th, 2011, 09:03 AM Thx a lot kdotcarter
Few days ago i was asking if some1 is able to take pics from Parker Meridien Hotel
and then you showed up with another very appreciated vantage point.
Good timing ;)
Keep going on :okay:
.
DinoVabec October 15th, 2011, 10:25 AM Are those steel columns?
So you are saying the shaft is that part in the center where the wood is coming out of the floor?
This red steel is part of windscreens..It's not part of the building..
And about the shaft..It's hard to say because big area is not visible because of those windscreens on the left..I'll wait for the next update from up there to see what's behind those windscreens..I wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of wooden platform to cover the shaft so workers can run over safely..
tim1807 October 15th, 2011, 10:39 AM ^^ Exactly, there also a stair trough the hole for the workers to get up there.
PDC1987 October 15th, 2011, 05:16 PM Did the residents in the upper floors of the Metropolitan Tower have conniptions over this building, or are they starting to now? One57 is going to block a huge portion of their park views. Views from CitySpire Center may also be affected.
Eric Offereins October 15th, 2011, 09:40 PM This red steel is part of windscreens..It's not part of the building..

I think the shaft is probably behind the crane. It would make sense to have it in the centre of the buidling.
DinoVabec October 16th, 2011, 03:05 AM I think the shaft is probably behind the crane. It would make sense to have it in the centre of the buidling.
I doesn't really make any difference since those are full floor apartments..
Plus, it has to be back on that Central Park side since this is the tallest part of building..Elevators run to the last floor, sometimes even to the roof..
oilmanjr October 16th, 2011, 04:49 AM I forgot that these were full-floor apartments. This is why it would make sense to have the shaft on a side or even a corner. Sure, it is valuable window space, but these are apartments, not offices.

If I had to put money on it now, that is what I would guess... But others have brought up good points - could be behind the windscreens or the crane. Maybe if we can get some photos from a different angle we will be able to tell.

You will have to be more specific about what "bit" you are talking about. I guess the answer is probably the same either way though... It will have cladding.

azn_man12345 October 20th, 2011, 03:08 AM You will have to be more specific about what "bit" you are talking about. I guess the answer is probably the same either way though... It will have cladding.
I mean near the bottom of the tower where there is very little space between this building and it's two neighbors on either side.
oilmanjr October 20th, 2011, 05:19 AM I asked that question earlier in this thread. They said that the parts nearly touching neighboring buildings won't have cladding.
sakai October 20th, 2011, 05:41 AM I asked that question earlier in this thread. They said that the parts nearly touching neighboring buildings won't have cladding.
obviously they cant clad it if theres a wall there...
oilmanjr October 20th, 2011, 05:48 AM They are not touching, so it's a valid question. It wouldn't be impossible.
Hendycfc October 20th, 2011, 10:41 AM It just be very pointless and a lot more expensive.
the man from k-town October 20th, 2011, 12:22 PM the construction is really fast . lo me gusta :)
oilmanjr October 20th, 2011, 03:36 PM Will there even be any windows on the sides of the lower floors?
spectre000 October 20th, 2011, 05:51 PM It just be very pointless and a lot more expensive.
Not necessarily. Buildings are demolished all the time in NY. You never know if the building next to you is gone at some point in the future.
DinoVabec October 20th, 2011, 05:53 PM To answer the question about the gap between One57 and the next building..That small gap is there because, believe it or not, buildings move..If there's strong wind, building sway, possible earthquake, building moves, etc..Those are not moves like one ft..At least not at street level..But there are smaller moves..One57 is way taller than those buildings next door, so it has bigger moves..If they build it wall to wall, as time passes by, walls of One57 would hit other walls and they would crack..At first those cracks would be small but it would be bigger and bigger with time..And you know what that means..That's why is there small gap..
Usually those gaps get filled with some termo/sound proof material..Or it can just stay empty..And cladding that comes on the front side of building covers it so it's not visible..
Eric Offereins October 20th, 2011, 08:13 PM ^^I guess this building coud sway quite a bit. Easily inches. Nice to see the 1st pieces of cladding. It won't take long before we'll see it on the front side. :)

I wonder, what can be the weight of a supertall like One 57? I can imagine it has to be big to be able to crack neighbouring walls if it would have contact with them :dunno:
kingsc October 22nd, 2011, 07:12 PM Is that 2Pac in your avatar? One of his trademarks was to reverse the bandana so the knots would be on the forehead... just like in your avatar :D
Yeah it's Tupac lol.
Kanto think more about how fast the buildings can move. That compound with the weight, would be enough to damage any neighboring building.
Kanto October 22nd, 2011, 07:17 PM ^^ That's true. I guess it would be like a lorry hitting the buildings over and over again. How much force is needed to start cracks in a wall?
Ni3lS October 22nd, 2011, 07:22 PM Lol, planning something? ;)
Kanto October 22nd, 2011, 07:24 PM ^^ ROFLMAO, no, just wondering how strong a building is :hahano:
Ni3lS October 22nd, 2011, 08:37 PM I see. Well, there are a lot of people here that provide some very interesting information, though knowing how strong a building is, is a question that barely anyone knows for certain. Except the engineers and architect(s) of the building of course. Therefore a little strange to ask it over here because the engineers and architects of this building are no member of this website (as far as we know). Otherwise we probably would've known.
Kanto October 22nd, 2011, 11:37 PM ^^ Well, this is the biggest international skyscraper forum in existence so it is very well possible that some skyscraper engineers will sooner or later join
Btw, I'd love to see a recent pic of this building from far away so we can see the recent progress
Otie October 23rd, 2011, 12:52 AM ^They're aware of these forums, though they just limit to observe and be sure nothing confidential is posted. ;)
King of Construction October 23rd, 2011, 05:37 PM ^^ That's true. I guess it would be like a lorry hitting the buildings over and over again. How much force is needed to start cracks in a wall?
It's not necessarily the force of the hits that will crack a wall. I think it's more the times it will hit other buildings. Compare it to a water drop. There are examples of places where one drip hits the ground every 2 seconds, and after years it will make a hole in the most solid ground. In this case it's sort of the same, so it's not like that the building hits other buildings with high speed or force, but just the number of times it swayes.
azn_man12345 October 23rd, 2011, 07:24 PM ^And isn't that why this building is made out of concrete? To reduce sway? Because concrete is much stronger and doesn't sway as much as steel/other materials. Is this correct?

Yeah but from what I know there has to be quite some force involved for the material to weaken and crack after many times repeated collison :dunno:
DinoVabec October 24th, 2011, 12:53 AM The force will be released, just not as a wall hits wall..It's more like tectonic plates..One57 is big, it sways and his walls would slide an inch or two or how much I don't know exactly, and make pressure on neighbour's wall..That pressure would repeat every few seconds..In intervals..And neighbour's walls would feel that..There would be small vibrations..And those vibrations would make little cracks which would become bigger and bigger with time..
Everyone who knows a basic physics will know what I mean..

Kinda..But you have to let building to sway to some point..That's the way how building takes force of the wind, earthquake, etc..If you build it too strong, wind or earthquake would brake it just like that..
aquaticko October 24th, 2011, 02:38 AM Anyone noticed that this building is already completed on Google Earth? Assuming the scale and cladding are accurate, it'll be a great contribution to midtown.
JohnFlint1985 October 24th, 2011, 05:42 AM Hmm they started cladding already.... Everything is moving fast it seems.

600West218 October 27th, 2011, 04:20 AM Went by the sight today. The original crane is now being taken down. It's cab is already below the height of the building and the highest brace to the building has already been removed.
Dino is right yet again. This is getting old :-)
Only one pain of cladding is visible from the street. Nothing at all yet on the 57th or 58th street sides - only on the mid block part of the building. Hopefully that will change soon.

With such amounts it is easy to get mixed up by the numbers. $ 98,500,000.- is the correct number I believe. ;) Still the difference between the numbers will not have an effect on my decision to buy one, or not. ;) It is "just a little bit more" then I can come up with. :D

But now that I have a Flikr account and took my regular (still only point and shoot) camera down town I will do some updating.

One57 Development Receives $700M Loan
By Carl Gaines
NEW YORK CITY-Extell Development Co. has closed on a $700 million construction loan from a Bank of America syndicate for its One57, a 90-story mixed use development that will rise over 1,000 feet at 157 W. 57th St., across from Carnegie Hall.
“This loan reflects the confidence that the Bank of America syndicate has in this exceptional development,” Gary Barnett, founder and president of Extell, said in a prepared statement. The syndicate, led by BofA as administrative agent, will finance a portion of the $1.4 billion project. Other members of the syndicate include the New York branch of Banco Santander, Abu Dhabi International Bank and Capital One.
“Bank of America is excited to work with Extell to help make One57 a reality,” said BofA’s commercial real estate banking executive for New York/New Jersey Steve Kenny. “This mixed-use development is an excellent example of the type of project Bank of America is committed to as one of New York’s leading commercial real estate lenders.”
The 95 luxury condos in the building will be located above the Park Hyatt’s new 210-key flagship hotel. The project broke ground earlier this year.
Eric Offereins October 31st, 2011, 10:48 PM Good news. I assume that there is now enough to complete the construction? :)

600West218 November 2nd, 2011, 09:10 PM Did you see actual work taking place, or just the black netting?
The black netting has been there a long time, and I haven't seen any visible progress in the amount of demolition in a while.
I'm am going by again tonight and I so have pictures from this past Sunday which I'll try to post later.

Roof height used below!
http://i41.tinypic.com/14b2v4z.jpg
1WTC = 340 meters or 1115 feet out of 418 meters or 1371 feet
4WTC = Approximately 217 meters or 712 feet out of 298 meters or 977 feet
1 57 = Approximately 145 meters or 476 feet out of 306 meters or 1005 feet
(Note: I used the 418 meter figure for 1WTC when measured from the lowest above ground entrance and I used the 298 meter figure for 4WTC.)

Martijn1 November 4th, 2011, 02:02 PM It's snowing there already?
Did you not see any news lately? The whole of the North East US was covered in snow up to 80 cm.
ZZ-II November 4th, 2011, 03:21 PM and we in Germany have almost 20 degrees
Martijn1 November 4th, 2011, 03:32 PM Well, in New York it is also well above 0 degrees and I think there's no snow anymore...?
Martijn1 November 4th, 2011, 03:33 PM And on my I phone weather app, it is said it is -41 degrees in Tomtor, Siberia. So, what do you want?
EddieB317 November 4th, 2011, 05:21 PM It is around 50 degrees in NY right now... no snow.
King of Construction November 4th, 2011, 09:39 PM But the others are talking in Celsius, and you in Fahrenheit, so 50 degrees is 10 degrees Celsius
Btw here in the Netherlands, it was the hottest October in years, and also now November is still very good.
sachinsanyo November 5th, 2011, 02:03 AM This is an amazing design !!!
RobertWalpole November 5th, 2011, 04:14 AM and we in Germany have almost 20 degrees
It should be around 16 deg right now, and that's what it is. The snow was a fluke. Two weeks earlier, it was 28 deg in NY which also was unusual.
600West218 November 7th, 2011, 05:59 PM Went by the site yesterday.
More cladding up on the side. It does look like it has interesting coloration and patterns. Can't wait until it is on the front or back so it can be clearly seen.
The crane situation is bizarre. The original crane is lower than the new one but they didn't change its height from last week. Normally on this project when they do something they do it quickly. So they still seem to be using the original crane for something.

Not if the crane was there to begin with and has become obsolete. Their options are take down the crane or use it for cladding, so they will probably use it for cladding for the time being.

They'll eventually take it down, unless the developer is willing to pay ~$1,700 an hour to use a single crane. ;)
600West218 November 9th, 2011, 10:35 PM Right now this thing seems to be L shaped. Which part goes to the top - the part parrallel to 57th street or the part perpendicular to it?
The part parallel to 57th street is already VERY narrow. Whoever lives here better not have any fear of heights!

yankeesfan1000 November 11th, 2011, 01:16 AM Awesome updates. I was up there earlier this week and this thing is deceptively gigantic, because it hides behind, and in between buildings so well, or I should say so unfortunately. The glass looks really cool as well, but won't know for sure until there's more of it on the building. Thanks again for the photos!
Dirty new yorker November 11th, 2011, 01:32 AM Yes last time I drove by it was about 18 floors high, and when you drive directly underneath it and stare up at it it's a beast.

600West218 November 11th, 2011, 04:53 PM BTW, look at how narrow those upper floors are. Is that narrow part going all the way to the top?
germantower November 11th, 2011, 04:57 PM The 58th street wide will be narrow and go up this way to the top.
The 57th street side will be wider, with the setbacks.
But from a distance, these setbacks will add mass and make the tower appear bolder. When seen from the north. Just have a closer look at the renders, they explain more then enough.

rencharles November 12th, 2011, 04:16 AM What great pictures. This building is a monster, this very tall, but is only halfway. The glass looks very good, not really left to be desired.
PDC1987 November 12th, 2011, 04:26 AM It's 37 floors high, which height would this be?
Essex House is 495 ft, and it looks as though One57 is a bit above it.

Already?! Wow that's fast. This could be topped out by next summer I think.

ZZ-II November 12th, 2011, 05:24 PM the facade looks fantastic , this tower will definitely be one of my favourites of NYC!
Hull November 12th, 2011, 05:32 PM They'll eventually take it down, unless the developer is willing to pay ~$1,700 an hour to use a single crane. ;)
Are you sure that's correct? It's £1,400 a week in the UK to hire a tower crane.
Hull November 12th, 2011, 06:09 PM What happened to the striped facade?
meskida November 12th, 2011, 09:07 PM What happened to the striped facade?
This is just how the sides of the building are supposed to look like:

tim1807 November 12th, 2011, 09:39 PM ^^ That is the front side, but that piece of the facade on the right-hand side isn't striped at all.
600West218 November 12th, 2011, 11:34 PM absolutely fabulous pictures. I hope you take some more before it passes you by :-)
It is strange the way they do the cladding - one narrow strip going up rather than having go all the way around or at least cover one full side.

actually you can see the non striped facade on the right side

desertpunk November 13th, 2011, 07:17 AM The contrast with Carnegie Tower will be striking.
Philly Bud November 13th, 2011, 07:48 AM I confess that I have mixed feelings about the use of random tinted class panels. On the one hand I can see how this will make a 'glassy' structure more interesting and avoid banality, but on the other hand I'm wondering if in time it will just look cheesy and kitschy and dated. What are your views? :?

It reminds me of the facade of the hideous Xanadu center in Jersey.
