the architecture is amazing. being well-planned is great. but the skyline is not very impressive yet. looks unfinished though so maybe in a few years this place's gonna have a good skyline. talk about potential. but as of now, there's nothing much so 4.5.

yea, the bridge's beautiful. In actual fact the entire city isnt even planned for high-rises, and you are unlikely to see anything higher then 20 floors even after the whole city is complete. I have been there, and yeah, its a nice environment and all, but it still lacks the one thing we are actually judging on here.....the SKYLINE!! ;)

I like the plan

for a new city which is not even half populated yet, it is an amazing city, well planned, lost of greens, architecturally awesome mix of east and west but lack of 'life' as it is still under construction BUT it's gett'n close..
Bridges...neat bridges!! There are a few more not in the pictures.

^^^ I seriously think Putrajaya is fantastic given the 6 years of construction - it managed to built so many wonderful landmarks there. I think giving it a 3 is a bit ridiculous and immature....

Inside the mosque's open-air compound, dozens of tourists from China were busy taking pictures. Most of them wore the same pink robes handed out at the gates. They are required to cover their exposed hands and legs before they are allowed to enter the mosque's main prayer hall.

The mosque is a major attraction in Putrajaya, Malaysia's new administrative capital which has become one of its hottest tourist destinations. 'There is aesthetic beauty in the row of buildings and bridges, and even in the street light designs. Someone with a big vision built this place,' said Mrs Birke, an Indian woman who lives with her German husband near Frankfurt.

Although intended as a working capital, Putrajaya has drawn a growing number of visitors. Nearly 237,000 foreign visitors came last year, almost double the 115,260 people in 2001. Domestic tourists who registered their names to take part in the official tour totalled 273,570 last year. Many more did not sign up for any tours, but simply drove by for a visit to the country's new capital.

'Dr Mahathir foresaw that Putrajaya could bring in tourists because of the architecture and landscaping, and we were told to cater to them,' said Madam Norhazifa Mohamed, deputy director of public relations and tourism at project developer Putrajaya Corp. 'We have got so many requests for tours that we had to use the services of seven retired civil servants as tour guides,' she said. Tourists are charged only RM1 (Singapore 40 cents) a person for the two-hour bus ride to visit the attractions.

For many tourists from China, Putrajaya has become a 'must see' while on their tour of Malaysia, several travel guides say. 'Many come up from Singapore by bus, stop at Malacca for one night and then visit Putrajaya. Later, we will drive them to Genting for a night, then some go back down to Singapore and the rest fly out from KL,' said travel guide Lee Chia Lip, who was leading a busload of tourists from Guangzhou.

The most popular stop is the Putra Mosque, which can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers. It is one of only three mosques in the country where non-Muslims are allowed to enter the prayer hall. Other popular spots include the air-conditioned Selera Putra food court and Souq mall where local handicrafts are sold and cultural shows are performed. The food court fronts a 650-ha man-made lake, which is slightly larger than Ang Mo Kio new town.

Visitors can also take a cruise on the lake on a gondola-like boat. This takes them past the impressive Seri Wawasan cable and steel bridge, one of several grand bridges with Iranian and Islamic motifs in the city. Even the street lamps are unique, with a variety of designs to make them look like flaming torches to Kelantan kites.

The meeting and banquet halls in the grounds of the official residence of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi are also open, although his private residence is off limits.

Best of all, entrance to most of the attractions is free. Said one happy visitor, Mr Lim Chau Meng from Guangzhou: 'The whole place has grand views of buildings and lakes. It's like being in an Arab country, but with many trees.'

Mahathir's brainchild

THE brainchild of retired premier Mahathir Mohamad, Putrajaya is a RM10 billion (S$4.4 billion), 4,932ha capital city, which houses 45,000 people. Some 20,000 workers, mostly civil servants, have their offices in Putrajaya today.

The city was named after Malaysia's first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra. The word 'jaya' means success in Malay.

Spread over double Pulau Tekong's 2,443 ha area - the city is today a territory administered by the federal government.Though the country's administrative capital, Putrajaya is drawing a growing number of foreign and domestic visitors.

The most popular stop is the Putra Mosque, which is one of only three mosques in the country where non-Muslims are allowed to enter the prayer hall.

Organization, order, planning and choice of architecture, 9.5! Good thing they decided to make a planned city that is completely Malaysian in vibe and aesthetics, because other governments there would've chosen another "Western" sterotype planned city for theirs.

I give 6 for the skyline, it's growing for god's sake! In a few years this score will probably shoot up. Nearby Kuala Lumpur has a delicious skyline, I hope Putrajaya will catch up, but I guess it won't, this is an administrative capital right? For example, Washington D.C. and New York City --> one's the administrative capital the other the financial capital and the former has a hideous skyline compared to the latter so I guess Putrajaya will stay glorious as it is. :)

Oh, and I've heard years back that it's a ghost town or city, should I say. Did that change? Because a city as nice as this would be perfect with pedestrians walking around like crazy.

"I dont know what's the attractiveness of this city" this is more proper. English-wise, how often do you speak English?

Second,

You must have been to a better city. Better than KL or Putrajaya or even Jakarta. Overseas perhaps? Holland? France. They have amazing cities. Care to share?

Third,

To those people, respect his opinion. There's no such thing as a perfect, if Putrajaya is 9.5 for you doesnt mean that it will also be 9.5 for others, and in this case, this guy gave 5.5, he may meant it. He may have more ideal way how to grade cities' skyline. He may give extras if the skyline show a city's slum area. That's for him

Not a great skyline yet, but what is being built looks great. Attention to design is really evident from that bridge right down to materials used in the sidewalks. Very good!

Too many cities simply erect brick/concrete boxes and concrete sidewalks. You want to tear it up 10 seconds after they've finished building it.

yes,if i'm not mistaken,the buildings here are mainly low-rise and they are restricted to about 20+ storey . ;)

I wouldn't go that far...as 'worthless'. You're entitled to your opinion but that is harsh and in my opinion the city with high tech infrastructure, well planned and has all the you need and more is hardly 'worthless'...skyline wise, barely 12 years old carved from a plantation is quite a feat and the man made lake is quite impressive.:cheers:

Putrajaya is Malaysia's future capital city, just 30km south of KL. It is currently the nation's
administrative centre. The city joins the list of planned cities around the world such as

The resort-like 'government city' of Putrajaya was built with massive government funds. It is
