This past evening in Dubai, the annual and much anticipated Arabian Nights was celebrated. Some view it has a pre-celebration to the Dubai World Cup, the richest horse race in the world, that takes place 2 days later. It was my first time experiencing this event and it was one of the most overwhelming evenings of entertainment I have ever experienced! Your senses are wonderfully assualted, especially your visual sense. Amidst dramatic and moving scores of music, cultural and creative dance performances, and one of the most spectacular fireworks show I have ever seen, His Royal Highness, the UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, unveiled the plans for Godolphin River City to the public and generously invited the guests to come to the centre platform to view a realistic and to scale model of GRC. The crowd roared with approval as this magical city was also displayed on a theatre size screen in a dramatic computer generated film. Again the Maktoum Royal Family are taking the world by storm as they grow Dubai at an unprecedented rate with this new addition to their domain that will be sure to continue to draw people to Dubai from all over the world when completed.

Opus 2009 March 29th, 2008, 08:58 PM Great project, and a wonderful location. Thank God those ugly Tyre workshops etc in industrial Al Awir are going to be taken out.
helghast March 29th, 2008, 09:38 PM ivw bin asking for a million years now was that the canal connecting meydan and business bay lol

DUBAI March 30th, 2008, 06:52 AM that horse building is
A.U.S. arch. Student March 30th, 2008, 07:03 AM heighast in the pic above with the burj dubai in it you can see the work of the canal has "begun" but im not sure if thats a road or the canal. in imres aerial pics he posted a while ago you could also see what looks like the meydan canal connecting to the business bay creek.
Dubai yea that horse cut out building is quite rediculous lol, but i guess if fits the setting??? I like the fact that it is over the canal that is quite impressive

Smack!! March 30th, 2008, 12:04 PM What about these areas? I hope we see more skyscrapers!

malec March 30th, 2008, 12:21 PM ^^ That's might be developed as another part of business bay. At least that's what the original plans were. It was supposed to be more midrise stuff rather than towers.
Sorry I don't like the layout of this project at all. Seems to be a mess of roads and looks like all that green space will be unused which is a waste. No proper connections to business bay and it seems you need to travel a distance 3 or 4 times than that of a straight line. Didn't they say at the start of the year more focus would be on sustainability? Doesn't look like it to me here.
Instead all that wasted green space should have been made a big park with the creek extension flowing through in the centre with the towers around it. That way the green area would serve a good purpose (almost like central park), especially with business bay and meydan a short distance away. Also bridges across to business bay should be there so that people could drive or walk from one area to another with ease without having to go one way and clog up the main road.
As usual planning in the wider context seems to be ignored.
Smack!! March 30th, 2008, 12:35 PM I agree, but how are they going to water all of that? I man can u imagine the water consumption daily?

Yes there is something to said about the efficiency of a grid based layout. That's what I like about the waterfront island - a no nonsense grid. It is neat, it is boring but it makes a lot of sense in a dense urban setting which is what Dubai is. This layout seems to be all over the place.
malec March 30th, 2008, 03:22 PM I don't necessarily mean a square grid but more of a web sort of thing
Smack!! March 30th, 2008, 03:28 PM IMO all these towers aka area should have been on the other side of the SZR i.e. behind Emirates Towers, it would have been awesome and add more density in that empty area.
THE DUBAI GUYS March 30th, 2008, 03:57 PM IMO all these towers aka area should have been on the other side of the SZR i.e. behind Emirates Towers, it would have been awesome and add more density in that empty area.
but someone imp lives behind ET...someone big...in a BIG palace...hmmm I wonder who...

the other side of szr would put them in satwa.
and i wouldnt risk going in there without serious :guns1:
Opus 2009 March 31st, 2008, 02:32 PM ^^
Also, isn't some of that area ear marked for a future expansion of the Difc?
THE DUBAI GUYS April 5th, 2008, 03:06 PM the model:

seems like they also want to redevelope Ras Al Khor Industrial Area. 1.
Any information on the tower that goes over the Creek? Looks very good!
that tower will be I think a godolphin bldg. maybe an HQ or something.
R
Smack!! April 7th, 2008, 01:05 PM As i said before, I dont know about the location.... i wanted more density by having it somewhere near SZR or business bay, but meh.
Julito-dubai April 12th, 2008, 02:32 PM :nuts:mmm. question of watering becomes even more important after the unveiling of Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens, yesterday...
AltinD April 13th, 2008, 02:52 PM Maybe they finally made economic the usage of turf and plantations that can be watered with salt water.
Julito-dubai April 15th, 2008, 11:54 AM http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/6646/dubai2032720and20328200mc2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
bux_tr April 19th, 2008, 12:03 PM wow, that building..is somehow cool..the form might be a lil ridiculous..but trying to imagine the experience there, especially inside the 'horse eye', it must be fantastic!
Omaro April 24th, 2008, 08:14 AM IMHO I doubt the actual thing will look anything like the render, can't see them keeping so much greenery when they can be greedy and build it up with more towers

THE DUBAI GUYS July 26th, 2008, 08:26 AM The Godolphin RIver City is a celebration of the riverfronts as the focal point for cities of the 21st century. Exceptionally planned to create a riverine city, Godolphin River City becomes a model for development that merges sustainable ecological engineering with urban lifestyle sophistication.
From the eastern entry, the Godolphin River flows beneath the Godolphin Gateway Tower, a 40-storey edifice with the thoroughbred image outlined across its facade. Its remarkable design will make the building an outright destination for visitors and business travelers.
Retail and mixed-use development further adds to the vibrant urban character of the Godolphin River City. The Signature Mall is a mixed use linear anchor mall that stretches 1.4 kilometers along the Godolphin riverfront, a first in mall design in the region. Its glass facades and promenades enhance a visual connectivity between indoors and outdoors transforming the mall into an animated indoor urban park right at the core of Godolphin River City.
Waterfront living finds its expression through the Godolphin Pier House, the western end of Godolphin River City. It is a compact yet high quality residential development arranged on rows of piers that steadily encroach into the water of the riverfront. Each residential unit retains their visual linkages to the riverfront thus recreating a riverine community.
