Block G is approximately 49,862 sq.m positioned on the banks of the River Liffey. The current proposed building is a 90m to 96m tall office structure comprising 19 storeys and 3 basement levels.

It is situated next to the new National Conference Center.

Can't really come to a judgement myself on just one pic but it looks a little bussiness parkish :/

Blocks d and e should form a bit of a streetscape and give this a bit more context. Hopefully then it will seem less sandyfordish. A building of such height was specified in the spencer dock app, so it should have no problem right?

can't say I really like the look of it from the pic either, but with blocks d and e finished and the ncc hotel it would be cool!

I read an article this week which suggested an 11 storey building in Spencer Dock is on hold - something to do with the interconnector. Presumably they are going to sink the line around this area. I persume the block is PQ.

Scéal? Has spencer dock come to a halt? Has there been any progress aside from the obvious riverside sites, any word from treasury?

There doesn't seem to be any sign of that hotel going up behind the new Convention Centre. It seems that everything is on hold at the moment unfortunately. I really wish they would 'fill in' those vacant sites between the NCC and O2 with some nice tall prominent buildings.

Its pretty ironic that with all the "tax incentive" hotels built in dreadful locations over the past decade that the Conference Centre hotel is postponed. This is probably one of the few locations in the country which will guarantee high occupancy rates.

Having seen the site recently, it is surprisingly small. I believe they have permission for a 14 storey hotel, however, given the shallowness of the site and the sheer height of the Conference Centre, I doubt they could actually build something adecute. At 14 stories it would barely clear the parapet of the Conference Centre, but also, most of the rooms would be unattractive as they would be North facing with no view! A much taller structre is needed.

I would frankly be shocked if any more offices such as Block G are started in the next 2-3 years. The market is over supplied and stagnant. Plus Treasury have other problems with regard to debt, afterall, all of their retail division will be in NAMA. The only reason Monte Vetro is being completed is that substantial work was underway when the downturn came.

Agree with the sentiments though, it would be nice to see a few tallers buildings along the relatively underdeveloped North Quays to complement the largely completed but uniformly low-rise South Quays. The only problem is, the residents of the old two cottages on Mayor Street, who succeeded in scuppering Spencer Dock in its origional form!

AFAIK SCA architects are still working on the design of the CCD hotel. It's a tricky one for them - im not supprised it's taking a while to finalise the details. A plan should be unveiled anytime now. It is not postponed due to the downturn.

:)) Only problem with that is that half the developments I can recall the Times reporting during the boom never got built!

I looked up the SCA website. They have some excellent looking projects. I have to say I have always thought their compeleted works are interesting and have stood the test of time....unlike saw STW. I am sure the new proposal will be high-rise, based on what I said above, but also based on the fact that alot of their designs seem to comprise some multi-storey element. Although, for example their proposal for Russel Court is never going to get planning:)
