Indore (Hindi: इंदौर/इन्दोर Indore.ogg pronunciation (help·info), the largest city and the commercial capital of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated on the Malwa Plateau, just north of the Vindhya Range. Indore is the administrative headquarters of the Indore District and the Indore Division, and formerly served as the capital of the former princely state of Indore and the summer capital of the erstwhile state of Central India
The name Indore originated from the Indreshwar temple constructed in 1741 by local landowners.

This is the first mall of MP called Treasure Island. i remember when it opened the owner had to put an entry fee because people would just come in and walk around for free AC ,touch everything and leave without buying anything. you would get reimbursed if you bought anything. now they discontinued that as people started behaving.:lol:

nopes! the road is still under construction and it looks like there are no plans for pavements because i think they are gonna make another service road to this on both the sides. this road is known as MR10 or Ujjain link road or Kushabhau Thakarey marg. in this pic, a section of this road behind the sanwer road industrial area.

hey bharratiya! it makes me extremely sorry to tell u that Indore is perhaps one of the most polluted Indian cities. and photos may look clean. and about mini mumbai, forget it. i think i debated over it in the chaibar air travelers thread. i don't wanna brag a lot about indore!! it is just a small city wid a population of less than 20 lakhs (source; wiki). but somehow, some decades back, people said that the lifestyle of people of mumbai and indore was same or something.films would be released in mumbai and indore on thursday while elsewhere they would be released on friday. ?But the malls ans shopping areas and small offices have ruined the city and since most malls and brands and shops are same in the country, it looks like any mediocre city of India like, vadodara, bhopal, kota,etc. it is most, should i call it cosmo city ?, in central india, for its mixed culture. more than 1/3rd of the population can speak marathi. morever, it is financial capital of M.P, just like mumbai is the financial capital of India.

this is the extension of Ujjain link road after its junction at the indore- ujjain highway which is under construction. they are making a big road here and will be a SEZ which will be named as "super corridor". It will connect Indore east through the western ring road to the airport. the airport is destined to become an international airport after some years. Haj charters already operate from Indore airport. and the airport is already an international cargo hub. second of its kind after nagpur in central india.

I agree. i have lived in indore for a long time, though i love the city, i am so sad about the state of infrastructure in the city. its like a overgrown village. nothing is planned, govt couldnt even ban tempo's due to the tempo lobby and politics. one bridge takes forever to build and the existing one is poorly designed. i have been moving between jaipur and indore for a long time and at one point they both were alomst the same and now jaipur is miles ahead.

Indore got this tag because of a large number of cotton mills similar to mumbai back in 80s and 90s. Another reason may be large Marathi and Gujarati population. I really don't see anything special about life style.

i agree with your statement completely but does that not happen in any politically sensitive area? Indore is moving really slowly when compared to the other cities. But the positive thing is that it is moving! moreover, call it a result of good governance or something else, jaipur is like that- clean and modern, because or being a 'rajdhani'. When you compare Kota with indore for instance, i m sure you wud find Indore better. because both are the industrial towns of their respective states. Politics definitely is ruining the city.

the perpetual debate between Indore and Bhopal is just like the one between MUM and DEL. you see Bhopal gets a lot of attention being the capital of the state and i am proud that at least the capital of my state is clean- as people have acknowledged.:bash:

i dunno while i was going through ujjain link road, with a real estate agent, he told me this. and it was displayed on the advertisement of that residential project. that this project is in close proximity to u/c Sheraton hotel and proposed new railway station on BG.

This is a colonial era building which was renamed as "Mahatma Gandhi Town Hall".this is the place where most extravagant events used to happen till some decades ago. now this place is mostly used for book fair and food festivals. it is situated just next to the district court on the M.G road. Oh my dear sayaji. it is one of the best hotels of indore with bowling alley. it brings back a lot of memories.

I used to go there for bowlings on weekend.

yes precisely that place (inside sayaji) is clled "go bananas", i guess. i have never been to that place

perhaps yes! there are a few things that happened in India for the first time in Indore. Like the country's first private landline communication company, airtel, started its operations for the first time in india from here. also, in indore, the first private radio station, radio mirchi was launched in india. not only that, indore is the first place in the country to ahve both an IIM as well as an IIT. i am not sure about this one- opel's car- astra was launched form here!! need to check ths one!

thanx for ur appreciation!!^^ illusionist, it feels bad to inform you that this project is still not complete. the project is 'jinxed'. because 1 of the workers died while its construction was still on and after that the company that had its tender was scrutinized. it was found that the company wasn't good and so later it was black listed. now these inane politicians are just not getting their act together to complete this project. so the best is... that we have to wait...

well that sucks.. it could have been a good project for the city.

Indore also needs atleast 2 new bus terminus at the outer parts of city because the current sarvate bus stand is in a pathetic shape and buses from other cities creates lots of traffic problems after they enter the city.the private bus operaters should not allowed to start the buses from where they currently operate.

the overall bus network in the state needs a MAJOR overhaul. the buses that ply in the state are even worse than what are there in the 4th 5th world countries. the erstwhile MPRTC buses which still run are a treat to watch. don't know how these even manage to start let alone cover the entire journey :bash:

Yes food was gr8 in Indore. After living two years in Hyderabad, then moved to indore for 2 years. My Karnatka colleagues were drolling over the girls in Indore.

I forgot one one place, It was a big garden in front of a hotel on AB road. It was between Palasia crossing & vijay nagar turn.It was a nice hang out

havent stayed much in Indore. so not aware of the place u talking about :ohno:
but whenever i went there I had to have Saboo Dana Khichadi at Saraffa, lunch/dinner at Gurukripa at sarwate, paan at rajwaada

Yes, I have eaten lot of time at Guru kripa. But there were lot of good shops there. There was a shop where u can eat unlimited veg food

treasure Islands when opened its doors was one of the very best malls of the country due to its location and the overall upmarket feel it gave. love it still
i think its a bit of a stretch. it was the first and only mall of MP but certainly not the best in the country.
infact indores prefer pakiza type big stores over malls due to the service they provide.

right now its a stretch but I said the time it had opened its doors. still for Indoris Globus and Pakiza are preferred places for apparels

Indore's Treasure Island was given india's best mall in , i think , 2007 ... and rightly so ... i have been so many malls in different cities of india , but his mall is really great ... undoubtedly one of the best i have seen

Hey since 2010 wearing helmets in indore is compulsory, this was legislated in 2006 but a relaxation upto 2010 was given by a high court order... this pic dates back to 2009.. you wont find it now

perhaps yes! there are a few things that happened in India for the first time in Indore. Like the country's first private landline communication company, airtel, started its operations for the first time in india from here.
it wasn t airtel it was D-tel.
also the first toll road- BOT based road project in india was here. it linked indore with its one of the industrial areas namely pithampur.
while we are at roads,the brts concept was first planned and approved in indore as was city bus project that then was implimented in many cities across india. alas! our projects lag behind because such stuffs donts grease politico-admin nexus' palms. ahmedabad beat indore to first operation of brts.

good news ... they recently alloted spaces in crystal i t park to impetus - an indore based it/ s/w mnc as well as 2 other it comps.

named landmarc city, this was a recreation zone made by s kumars the textile giants of yesteryears. it had fun zone and a karting track along with eateries much before the first gen malls sported these facilities.

designed by architect hafeez contractor, it won best planned mall in india when hardly 20 new gen malls were up and about in whole india. the trophy was proudly displayed in their foyer for some time.

you twisted history mate. i am an alumni of same college.
1848- indias earliest known allopathy clinic was setup. this building was made in 1868 and had a premier school in india . 1878- asia s 6th oldest medical college was alloted this building whence the school was shifted to the residence of the resident of central region sir henry daly.
since then unto 1948 this college conducted classes here and gave central india many famous doctors. it was unfortunately renamed mahatma gandhi memorial medical college from original king edward medical school.
if only they hadn t changed the name, our identity would still be the sixth oldest medical school in whole asia.
