In navolging van onze reis door Frankrijk (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=571633) maakten wij vorig jaar een roadtrip door Duitsland en Denemarken. Het concept was het zelfde als de vorige trip: 12 dagen rond rijden met als enige doel hedendaagse en moderne architecuur projecten te zien, en af en toe eens een kathedraaltje meepikken :)

Ik zal wel een tijdje zoet zijn om alles te posten, we hadden namenlijk 6600 foto's getrokken...

Mooi architectuuroverzicht. Al zijn vooral de binnenopnamen niet zo scherp.

Leuke thread deze! Schitterende maar ook robuuste hedendaagse architectuur bij onze Oosterburen.
Ik kijk er al naar uit om Düsseldorf te bezoeken. Medienhafen vind ik echt geslaagd. Een voorbeeld voor het Eilandje, of niet?
Die Alsop Arch met die kleurtjes heb ik in de Rate our Architecture-thread een 10 of zo gegeven. Eén van mijn lievelingsgebouwen, al dacht een meerderheid der forumers er helemaal anders over...

Schitterend toch. En mooi in beeld gebracht. :okay:

Wel kleurrijk en daardoor zeker bijzonder, maar het schreeuwt ook wel keihard "jaren '90" uit. Het doet mij denken aan lycra leggings en zebramotiefjes. Desalniettemin ziet het geheel der gebouwen daar er wel best de moeite uit. Kleurrijk, in alle geval.

't Is trouwens de stad van Kraftwerk. Het uitzicht past wel een beetje bij het soort muziek, hier en daar :)

Inderdaad jammer dat ze het laten vervallen. Kan best iets mee aangevangen worden.
Het blijft een interessante serie. Ik ken onze oosterburen te weinig. Komt weldra verandering in.

mja, die wereldtentoonstelling in Hannover is wel een gemiste kans als je kan afgaan op deze serie. Zoiets moet toch veel meer mogelijkheden bieden dan een vervallen blikvanger en een kmo zone zoals je er in België overal wel een kan vinden.

Wij hebben in 2005 deels met de fiets Duisburg en Essen bezocht.
Het Ruhrgebied in Duitsland bevat veel verrassende en mooie gebouwen, zij hebben van hun industrieël erfgoed gebruik gemaakt om er landschapsparken van te maken, die je kan bezichtigen zijn per fiets.
Wij logeerden in de jeugdherberg van Duisburg die zich in het park bevondt.

Het paviljoen was verkocht geraakt in 2005 (via eBay) maar klaarblijkelijk heeft dat tot dusver nog niets veranderd...

Toen was het dus al donker en we moesten voor 22u in ons hotel zijn, in Berlijn ... Goed gas gegeven dus op de autobahn :cheers:

Ik zal eventueel morgen of zo nog hier en daar wat commentaar bijtypen!

Dresden is geweldig hoe de stad zich heropgebouwd heeft na de oorlog. Ik was er in 1995, dus heb het uiteindelijke resultaat van de Frauenkirche niet gezien. En dan nog, van die tijd herinner ik mij niet veel meer.
Leuk om ons telkens een stukje verder mee op reis te nemen!

Ik herinner me net dat ik ooit eens begonnen was met deze foto's te posten, hoog tijd dat ik daar eens mee verder doe. Het beste moet nog komen!! :)

Goed zo!

Ze hebben duidelijk niet stilgezeten in Berlijn. Daar staan een pak indrukwekkende nieuwe gebouwen tussen. Ze geven ook een zeer grootstedelijke aanblik aan de stad.
En de torens zien er een pak hoger uit dan ze werkelijk zijn. In Berlijn beseffen ze gelukkig dat slankere torens ook mooier zijn.
Nog 3 maanden te gaan en dan vieren we oud en nieuw in Berlijn. Ben razend benieuwd.

de volgende dag verplaatsten we ons van Berlijn naar Kopenhagen. Normaal een verplaatsing van ongeveer 4 a 500 km, werd dus 6 a 700 km wegens niet reserveren van de ferry Rostock-Gedser

Einstein Tower

The Einstein Tower (German: Einsteinturm) is an astrophysical observatory in the Albert Einstein Science Park in Potsdam, Germany designed by architect Erich Mendelsohn. It was built on the summit of the Potsdam Telegraphenberg to house a solar telescope designed by the astronomer Erwin Finlay-Freundlich. The telescope supports experiments and observations to validate (or disprove) Albert Einstein's relativity theory. The building was first conceived around 1917, built from 1920 to 1921 after a fund-raising drive, and became operational in 1924. Although Einstein never worked there, he supported the construction and operation of the telescope. It is still a working solar observatory today as part of the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam. Light from the telescope is brought down through the shaft to the basement where the instruments and laboratory are located.

This was one of Mendelsohn's first major projects, completed when a young Richard Neutra was on his staff, and his best-known building.

The exterior was originally conceived in concrete, but due to construction difficulties, much of the building was actually realized in brick, covered with stucco. The building was heavily damaged by Allied bombing during World War II, leaving it in a state that, as the architecture blog A456 noted, was ironically more in line with Mendelsohn's conceptual sketches[1] than the pre-war structure was. It underwent a full renovation in 1999, for its 75th anniversary, to correct problems with dampness and decay that had meant decades of repair. It is often cited as one of the few landmarks of expressionist architecture.

According to lore, Mendelsohn took Einstein on a long tour of the completed structure, waiting for some sign of approval. The design, while logical and perfectly sufficient to its purpose, stood out like an "ungainly spaceship" in the suburbs of Potsdam. Einstein said nothing until hours later, during a meeting with the building committee, when he whispered his one-word judgment: "Organic". (Otto Friedrich, Before the Deluge.) Mendelsohn himself said that he had designed it out of some unknown urge, letting it emerge out of "the mystique around Einstein's universe" (Wolf von Eckardt, Erich Mendelsohn.)
