Maybe you can try the Banyan Tree in Satorn area? .... There is an open-air restaurant on the roof top, at 60th floor I think. Not too high for you, right?

for daytime, you might wanna try lunch at 55 (Central World)....not many people at all then and you have full range of outdoor empty bar zone for photos with urban panaramas all around....but if its a hot day...be prepared to sweat

A Blue Sky at night

The new rooftop restaurant at Sofitel Centara Grand on Lat Phrao offers bistro style dining high in the clouds

Blue Sky is on the 24th floor of Sofitel Centara Bangkok on Lat Phrao Road. It's open daily from 6pm to 2am. Call (02) 541 1234 extensions 4603 or 4605 or visit www.CentaraHotelResorts.com.

Bangkok's hotels take the lead when it comes to skyhigh dining with a spectacular cityscape to admire. Take Centara group: its property at Central World has the alfresco rooftop restaurant and bar Red Sky perched on the 55th floor and now Sofitel Centara Grand Lat Phrao is following in its downtown's sister's successful footsteps by opening a new outlet called Blue Sky on its 24th floor.

Although the scale is not as large or as high as Red Sky, Blue Sky is a new choice for diners who enjoy a rooftop ambience along with good food and drinks. Better still, there's no need to head to the heart of the city for such an experience. We may curse those ugly red brake lights when we're stuck behind them in a traffic jam but they look surprisingly pretty winking in the darkness when viewed from the top. And from the roof, you also get a panoramic view of Chatuchak Park.

Blue Sky has been opened for just four months. The site used to be a penthouse and home to the property's owner Suthikiat Chirathivat. When he moved to live at the Centara Central World two years ago, his suite was transformed, partly into the rooftop restaurant, and partly into the Club for the executive guests.

Before reaching Blue Sky, you'll walk through a dimly lit passage that's lit with tiny spots to give off the illusion of a starry night. Designed by P49 Design & Associates, the eatery is a bistro in loft style with an interior that's rich in black and grey. A playful touch is added with low, red fibreglass tables and polka dots decorating the black and white chairs. Glass barriers shield diners from strong winds.

Blue Sky has both indoor and alfresco dining areas, so lay siege to whatever style of furniture suits your mood. Choose between stools at the main bar dedicated to cocktails, low tables and chairs for drinking and chatting or the white-linen covered tables and chairs for a more formal meal. There are also three private rooms with comfy sofas that will suit groups of four to 20. This is an ideal place to relax and chill after a long day at work.

The eatery floats into the night with heady cocktails, spirits and beers and a wide selection of wines. Don't expect to order titbits to go with the drinks. The food here is serious enough to make you want to eat no matter whether you prefer to down drinks or give alcohol a miss. Executive chef JeanClaude Pichon has created a wide range of Mediterranean, European and Asian specialities in a style that he describes as "traditional in taste and modern in presentation."

For a cold starter, he recommends Atlantic salmon tartar with horseradish cream together with caper berry and melba toast served with a spoon of caviar for Bt410. For a warm appetiser, try seared Alaskan king scallops on pipperade green pea sauce, which is superb for Bt590.

For an Asian twist, the French chef comes up with Japanese roll for Bt230, offering wasabi salmon and crab sticks wrapped with Japanese tofu rolls and served with wasabi soya and salad with balsamic dressing. Or try Pok Pok - traditional papaya salad served in a cup with grilled river prawns and sticky rice for Bt290.

Seafood and meat are on the menu for the main course. Bourride of roasted snow fish topped on a bed of spinach and garlic confit for Bt890 is worth a try for its freshness and delectable taste while beef lovers should not miss the 120-grain fed tenderloin of beef with balsamic bacon sauce for Bt990. In stead of serving the meat on half a lobster in the American style, the panfried tender beef tops a bed of crushed potato and is decorated with a grilled spiny lobster tail.

And do leave a little room for the delectable desserts. The sweet treats include lemon tart and tuttifrutti ice cream slice for Bt230 and warm apple and Nashi pear crumble with vanilla bean sauce topped with cinnamon ice cream for Bt210.

There are extensive lists of special, traditional and monthly cocktails and mocktails for your enjoyment. Don't let the blue shade of Blue Sky cocktail overwhelm your senses. The Bt290 drink offers a big shot of vodka with blue curacao, lychee and lemon juices and syrup. And with Halloween coming up, the cocktail of the month is the Dracula Lover, a potent mix of vodka, cream de cassis, grapefruit, lemon, pineapple and cranberry juices and grape syrup for Bt170. If alcohol is not your thing, try the mocktail Phantom, a blend of fresh kiwi, kiwi juice with grapefruit and lemon juices and green syrup for Bt150.
