AdnanK February 4th, 2009, 01:15 AM Good news everyone! Seems that the tunisian government intends on building a new airport somewhere around the greater Tunis area.
Minister of transport Abderahim Zouari mentioned a presidential measure aimed at investigating prospects for air transport in Tunis by 2030. And that the purpose is to find a spot for a new airport.
"He recalled the presidential measure on conducting a prospective study on the prospects of aviation in Greater Tunis by 2030. The objective is to identify a site to build a second airport in this economic region."
The study also intends to develop the Carthage airport into an international transport hub.

In the short term, this study aims to develop the Tunis Carthage International Airport and convert it into an international transport hub and even a correspondence of international air links

AdnanK February 4th, 2009, 09:07 PM I would´nt discount the possibilty of a new major hub i Tunis by 2020, with a capacity of 20-40 million passengers/ year......

I actually heard that Tunisair is acquiring some new aircrafts (Airbus A330 and A350, which are long hole carriers) and are planning to have new destinations to North America & Asia (maybe south Asia and/or East Asia)...though I donno from which airport they're plannin' to use them, if it's from TC airport, it may become an internatinsl hub...maybe

AdnanK February 8th, 2009, 02:22 PM Hopefully Tunisair is going to have destinations to asia as well. Tunis-Tokyo would get japanese tourists with purchasing power, but the question is if any tunisians are intrested in Tokyo.
There´s a new strong middle class growing in china, who will want to spend their vacations outside the country, we´re already seeing chinese tourists here in europe.
I think India would would be interesting, Tunis-Mumbai. But I doubt indians in general have a standard high enough for traveling far outside their country. Maybe their upper classes might be intrested.
KrisAziz February 9th, 2009, 10:55 AM There are more millionares in India than the UK.
There is a huge gap between the bottom of the pyramid and the top but its a very large pyramid.

Actually, we (tunisians) don't need a visa to go to Japan (or a visa is delivered at the arrival, on the airport...one has just to have a couple of thousand dinars and enough patience to travel over 10 hours...;)

Yep, I agree, it seems there is a couple of hundred millions of Chinese tourists...if we can get like 1% of them to visit Tunisia, we'll have an increase of 100 to 200% of tourists visits to our country :)

If I recall well, I heard/read that they were considering a regular flight between Tunisia and India...probably for business men...I have to find the reference though...
