well, a chinese on CCthere.com said that when he visited Tokyo in early 1990s, he was shocked by the shining metroplis. At that time, He just "wished" when Beijing become as modernized and shining" as tokyo.


Last year, when the CHinese returned to Beijing,he amazedly found that his "wish" indeed had come to truth. Beijing today is not only as shining as Tokyo ,but as has more "elegance" than Tokyo.

Beijing is certainly unique....and has many unique features....but of course the competition between these cities is pretty fierce, to say the least. I suppose this is good for keeping the seemingly relentless pace of all the progress/construction very interesting for all of us spectators too though huh!? :cheers:

Yes, beautiful city indeed....but I just wonder sometimes what the future holds for the Bird's Nest Stadium and some of the other Olympic projects? Hopefully they will be preserved properly and not be allowed to fall into neglect. :cheers:

Hongkong's skyline is very dense if compared to Shanghai's. Shanghai still needs at least a decade to catch up with Hong kong's skyline.

When the east tower and rest skyscrapers in the Guangzhou CBD are finished, there will be three 400m+ towers, about six 300m+ towers together with the current 391m Citic Plaza. Beijing doesn't stand a chance.

actually I think Chongqing should be on your list and above Beijing
I think Beijing basically is not typical in terms of skyscrapers due to height limit(buidings can't be built taller than 250m along Chang'an street,in which Yintai center creates the limit 249.9m)
The great city is more typical when it comes to infrastructural facilities,ancient buildings etc
But the government is planning a stunning CBD project at Guomao（国贸） area which includes WTC tower(333m),The Fortune Center(260m) CCTV(234m)etc.
When it is finished,Beijing skyline will have a scale.nevertheless,I don't think it will supass Chongqing,Shenzhen(they are also changing),let alone Shanghai,HK

Beijing is just ok as it was.Well with a few modern buildings will also be fine.But it is certainly not competitive compared to other metropolises in China in skyscraper race,as long as the height limit exists;)

I think all of this back and forth of which city has the best skyline is ridiculous. I feel that each city has a nice skyline and each city has its' own unique character in how it wants to project itself. One mans junk is another mans treasure. So lets just celebrate and appreciate each city in its' own right.

As an American I can appreciate how quickly all of these great cities are developing. It will be amazing to watch China develop over the next 10 to 20 years. So many great cities will emerge in their own right. It is fun to watch.

Well Skyline yah Beijing isn't that impressive yet, but the quality of its buildings and the design is very unique and I would have to say they are among the top alongside of Hong Kong's or Shanghai's. Beijing just has that AWE and the grandness. As for Skylines I would put Chongqing above Shenzhen.

Maybe Beijing doesn't have the best skyline due to height restraint and sprowling city structure, but beijing definitely has some best buildings in china, the elegancy and spectacularity are other cities lack of, including hong kong and shanghai.

Very nice city :) The scale at which the whole of China is developing is simply unbelievable, one cannot help but marvel at it. Beijing has a very good skyline, it's just that the city is compared with other Chinese cities which makes its skyline look small.

I was given a positive review, and I have'nt insulted you, much less to their town, on the contrary, I believe this city with great history and culture with a lot of progress leagues, but the despotism of the authorities and the discourteous from its people to adds bad points for the city. Hopefully the people of Beijing to improve its treatment of those who visited because you as a tourist is expected to receive a good deal of people and can better appreciate the city's architecture.

all of them are world heritage
the Forbidden city, heaven temple and summer palace are located in the inner city
while the great wall lies away from the centre Beijing about 60km
In the photos, the great wall is not the most famous ones, and it's not restored, but keeps the taste:)

and
the first two pics are in Summer Palace(one of the top four garden of China)
the third to fifth is the Forbidden city, of course, it is more bigger than you can see from those pics
the sixth is the heaven temple
the last ones are the great wall pieces

a forest of concrete, a forest of skyscrapers. chinese cities has lost their identities. i am looking at this pictures and i want to say we could be in the states in chicago or in Moskow or in Melbourne ! every big cities in the world are looking samely ! i am shure they will in the future destroy the forbidden city for building skyscrapers ! Beijing has destroyed all his ancient monuments to look like an American city ! Destroy millenium architecture to replace by concrete ! Monstrous ! ok perhaps is this city cleaner now !

you sound desperate, that's not good.

They surely have destroyed things before but only aliens and crazy man will destroy the forbidden city, and if you're in Beijing now or have been recently, you'd know they're actually trying to keep the old houses inside 2nd ring, which is the ancient Beijing, and you cannot blame it when they are extending the city to 6th ring with modern stuff.
Beijing is unique, nothing like Chicago, Moscow, not even Shanghai

Globalization is cruel, I have to say, but Beijing has its own ID.
