Yaghuth February 7th, 2012, 07:20 AM

Al-Hashimi June 12th, 2012, 03:55 PM Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
My surname is Al-Hashimi and my father is half Iraqi from the Al-Hashimi and Shammar tribes and half Saudi (Hejazi) from the Al-Abbasi and Al-Hassani tribes. My mother is half Spanish and French.
I am born in Europe and have lived all my life.
I hope I can have good discussions about Saudi Arabia and Iraq in peaceful manner with respect and mutual desire to make progress in both countries and the Arab world.:)
Saudi guy June 12th, 2012, 05:52 PM I'm glad to have you here Al-Hashimi consider Saudi members like your second family :)
What languages do you speak beside the English?
Al-Hashimi June 12th, 2012, 06:58 PM I'm glad to have you here Al-Hashimi consider Saudi members like your second family :)

Thank you for the welcome brother. I identy myself most with my Arab heritage and I also know that 3 of my father's grandparents tribes are originally from Hejaz. The Al-Sammar tribe is mainly found in Iraq and Najd but I think that they are Qathani originally and from Yemen.:)
Arabic, French, Spanish and English.
Mesch June 12th, 2012, 11:37 PM Welcome to the forums, Al-Hashimi!
I'm sure your presence will add to the diversity of opinions (and backgrounds) in the forum. I'm interested to see your contributions. :)
The Al-Sammar tribe is mainly found in Iraq and Najd but I think that they are Qathani originally and from Yemen.
I believe you are referring to Shammar? They are one of Najd's most prominent tribes, and have historically held notable political importance but I'm sure you already know that. They only trace their ancient roots to Yemen, like many other Najdi tribes.
Al-Hashimi June 13th, 2012, 12:09 AM JazakAllahu khayran.
Well I might come from diverse background but my father is fully Arab and it shows in my upbringing. I am more a traditionalist (not wahhabiyya of course before I will be accused of that) than liberalist. I value Arab culture, language, poetry, architecture very highly in general and I also have interest in Semetic culture.
Yes, it's the Al-Shammar I was thinking about. There are about 3 million members in Iraq and 1.5 in Najd.
But yes, like all Qathani Arabs they are originally from Yemen if we belief Arab folklore and tradition.
Personally my own theory is that Arabs came from North (Mesopotamia and Levant) rather than Yemen/East Africa as some have claimed.
Actually the first known Semetic people were found in Mesopotamia and Levant and the spread of Arabic is also thought to come from the Levant/Mesopotamia and then spread southwards.
I also read that genetics support this.
It could be interesting to see where the first "real" Arabs came from. I know that we are all mixed like all people and that Arab identity is more based on culture/langauge than genetics like most other ethnic groups.
I mean Yemenis are completely different compared to Moroccan people but both are known as Arabs. For example Yemenis have big admixture of East African blood (the most of all Arabs) while Moroccans are mostly Berbers who became Arabized as is the case in Algeria, Mauritania, Libya, Egypt (Copts) and some regions in the Levant.
I think the "true" Arabs found today are found in Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Yemen. It's also the homelands of the ancient Arab tribes and all those countries are part of the Arabian Desert and to an extent Arabian Peninsula.
Do you agree with my assumptions or I am wrong?:)
Sdare June 13th, 2012, 06:38 AM Hello Alhashimi, you have a very interesting background specially that you have some Shammari blood as I'm half Shammari as well :D anyways for most of the settled communities (as opposed to nomadic) tribe is just a name, it has really no other significance. In fact, showing extreme loyalty or adherence to one's tribe is considered to be very backward today.
Welcome to SSC!
Al-Hashimi June 13th, 2012, 12:57 PM Hello Alhashimi, you have a very interesting background specially that you have some Shammari blood as I'm half Shammari as well :D anyways for most of the settled communities (as opposed to nomadic) tribe is just a name, it has really no other significance. Welcome to SSC!
Thank you for the welcome brother.
That is interesting. I have been told that the Shammari tribe are famous for their beauty.:) In Iraq there is a very beautiful presenter from the news and she is fully Shammari.
I think people should be proud of their Arab heritage and preserve tribalism. I know that in Iraq it is still very strong. I also know that problems can occur and there have been many tribal wars but I don't think it should be forgotten because it is important part of the culture.
I personally know my family history/lines very well and find it interesting and a matter of pride.
If you look into your tribes history there are many beautiful histories, folklore, tradition, poems etc.
Maybe it is just me I know that in modern world such issues have less and less importance and that education, wealth etc. gives influence mostly.:)
alheaine June 13th, 2012, 08:53 PM Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

I am born in Europe and have lived all my life there so unfortunately I have never learned to write Arabic but Alhamdulillah I speak it and plan to learn writing it as well.
I hope I can have good discussions about Saudi Arabia and Iraq in peaceful manner with respect and mutual desire to make progress in both countries and the Arab world.:)

Are we not all diverse if we look far back enough ancestry wise?
I look more like an Arab than an Southern European. Let me say it this way.
The last part is not for me to judge.:colgate:
Yaghuth June 16th, 2012, 03:08 AM ahlan Al-Hashimi ,
welcome to the Saudi Forum :)
Al-Hashimi June 16th, 2012, 03:14 AM Thank you all for the warm welcome.
You all seem like knowledgeable and good people one can learn a lot from.
You are the people we need to show the world that Arab's are more than what some ignorant people think.
I myself is trying to do a little in that way also everyday.:)
