This design already fills the gap that exist currently. The rest is empty, because the stands wouldn't fit in corners. And I don't see any space there to make it rotterdam alike (which is still not a long-term solution for a stadium refurbished in 2013)...

With the reconstruction the running track will be removed.

I don't like the project at all. I hate an oval ground for football. It's ugly and not suitable for footabll match. But I like it oval or round in exterior facase. So oval or round stadium and rectangular pitch are the perfect combination in terms of stadium beauty.

^^But the proposal presented shows that those gaps are filled. The pitch will be lowered and the lower tier redesigned in a sort of more rectangular than circular shape. The first picture shows this very well, notice how the upper tier and the lower one have a different curvature.

this so called "empty gap" is the standing area. Some years ago this area was closed for the public, but now is opened again.

As far as I'm concerned, i dislike standing areas in all stadiums. They are a waste of space. I would like to see the field slightly lowered, the standing area filled in with more seats and the lower bowl redesigned to accommodate two floors of luxury boxes. I don't need a "rectangular" lower tier as well as a rectangular roof extension, that would totally ruin the look of the stadium. However, if the stadium is renovated, it would look a lot like a "carbon copy" of Maracana Stadium.

Plus the Mimeirinho Gymnasium should also get a renovation and there are four floors of parking (?) under the stadium.

They play futsal and, mainly, volleyball. But only for major games.

Yes. The exterior was revised. Aa lot of stuff you can see in those first pictures, are not present in those last. Like the lakes or some "holes" in the floor. The redevelopment intention was not to change anything in the the stadium project itself.

I can't remember by heart any stadium with different curvatures now. Maybe Sercan cans.

All I know about the project, is that the upper tier will not be demolished. That's the reason for the oval shape in the top.
IN constrast, the lower tier will be completely reconstructed. So, it's curvature is rectangular.

Surely the best thing to do is to sink the playing field into the ground and extend the lower tier so that it meets the pitch as a rectangle. No other adjustments are needed. No-one in the upper tier gets any further away from the action. Capacity would increase as well.

OK, some people are not understanding clearly the renders.

Facade's architecture: Can not be changed by law. It's a Brazilian football historical site.
Lower tier: It will not be rectangular wich is bad. There won't be any race track or standings between that and the pitch. There will have a ditch to avoid crazy people invading the pitch tough.
Pitch: It will be sinked to allow perfect view from lower tier.

Any more doubts?

I find this renovation excellent and far much better as for the Morumbi stadium. I like the oval shape, it's a part of traditional Brazilian style stadiums. The most important thing is, they will lower the pitch, so that all spectators (especially those in 1st tier) can have a good view.

Well, for me the shape of lower tier is rectangular. The upper tier will continue oval shaped.

The Mineirao Stadium's concrete exterior is concrete. Hope that will be cleaned up during the renovation.

Also, it would be nice if there were an oval lower tier would just be closer to the football field with NO track.

I'm afraid it will not look nice when it's finished and after sometime maybe will be looking dirty.

It would be better if they use granite on facade, no pedras portuguesas for the pavement and cover the entire parking lot as it was in the previous project.

At least there are good news, works are being made on right time and the plans of local state government has been approved by FIFA yesterday.

This will look outdated by about day 2 after completion!

Previstas para terminarem em dois anos, obras de reforma do Mineirão vão custar R$ 771 milhões

Dentro do plano de reforma do Mineirão, um importante passo será dado nesta quarta-feira (28). A partir das 10 horas, as escavadeiras começarão a retirar o gramado que, nos últimos 45 anos, proporcionou alegrias e decepções à torcida mineira. A ação das máquinas será acompanhada de perto pelo governador e candidato à reeleição, Antonio Anastasia, e pelo presidente da CBF, Ricardo Teixeira.

A vistoria de Teixeira faz parte de uma série de viagens que ele fará às cidades-sede da Copa 2014 para verificar o andamento das obras. Nesta terça-feira, ele esteve em Brasília, que, assim como o Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, concorre com Belo Horizonte para receber a abertura do Mundial. Enquanto não se decide qual será o estádio privilegiado com a estreia da Copa 2014, o Mineirão continua a ser preparado para receber os jogos da competição.

Como o HOJE EM DIA adiantou com exclusividade em sua edição de domingo (25), 14 empresas de grande porte já adquiriram todo o material para concorrer no processo de licitação da terceira etapa. Esta será a fase em que serão feitas melhorias internas e expandida a cobertura, além da construção da esplanada que o ligará ao Mineirinho.

O valor total do edital da obra, que deve começar em dezembro deste ano e ser entregue em dois anos, é de R$ 771 milhões. Desse montante, R$ 654,5 milhões serão gastos nos trabalhos, sendo R$ 426,4 milhões para o estádio (cobertura de policarbonato e melhorias internas) e R$ 228,1 milhões para a esplanada, anexos e estacionamentos. O restante será investido na manutenção do estádio por 25 anos, que será o prazo de concessão que o vencedor da licitação terá para administrar o “Gigante da Pampulha”.

Atualmente, o Mineirão está em sua segunda fase de obras, que consiste no rebaixamento do gramado em 3,4 metros e a demolição da geral. Até esta terça, uma parte da geral já havia sido derrubada, em frente às antigas cadeiras superiores centrais. Além disso, uma rampa de acesso ao gramado foi construída, onde funcionava o bar 16. Outra está em processo de construção para que os caminhões possam entrar por uma e sair por outra.

No total, serão retirados 68 mil metros cúbicos de terra só da parte interna do fosso. Entretanto, quando a terra é remexida, pode aumentar em até 40% seu volume. Com isso, a expectativa do diretor de infra-estrutura da Administração de Estádio de Minas Gerais (Ademg), Ricardo Raso, é que sejam retirados 88,2 mil metros cúbicos de terra. Ainda não está certo para onde o material será levado, mas o mais provável é que seja utilizado nas obras dos piscinões de contenção das águas do Ribeirão Arrudas.

Para retirar todo esse volume de terra, serão necessários pelo menos 11.025 caminhões com caçamba estendida, com capacidade de 8 metros cúbicos. Já o destino do gramado ainda é incerto, e deve ser anunciado nesta quarta por Anastasia. A primeira fase, que consistia na recuperação da estrutura da fachada e da laje, já está concluída.

Due to the Governador Magalhaes Pinto Stadium being closed for reconstruction, the Mineiro and Cruzeiro football teams will relocate to the Independencia Stadium during that time. However, the Independencia Stadium has been demolished and a brand-new stadium is being constructed in that site. Mineiro and Cruzeiro are being put in a real awkward position here.

Isn't this stadium completed already? Why are the digging stuff up?

Pele fears Brazil embarrassment over World Cup delays


SAO PAULO – Pele says Brazil risks embarrassment if preparations to host the 2014 World Cup do not get up to speed soon.

Brazil's greatest footballer said he was most concerned about delays in building or improving stadiums and modernizing the country's "frightening" airport system.

"You know of the fight we had to get the (2016) Olympics and the World Cup, traveling around the world seeking votes and now a moment has come that is worrying everyone," Pele told a news conference on Friday.

"Brazil is running a great risk of embarrassing us in how it runs the World Cup, principally in communications. The airports are frightening and not just for Brazilians."

Pele said he spoke with directors of world soccer's governing body FIFA and also a group linked to European body UEFA's president Michel Platini, who also expressed concern over the pace of preparations in Brazil.

Most of the works for the World Cup are behind schedule and some of the stadiums have not even begun to be built as in the case of first division club Corinthians, chosen by Sao Paulo city as its match venue.

"Brazil has the obligation to stage a good World Cup, a good administration, and sadly it's already behind and has this controversy of Sao Paulo," the 70-year-old Pele said.

"The Paulista championship is the core of Brazilian football, it's what should already be settled and it still isn't settled."

Sao Paulo will stage the tournament's opening match, according to the organizing committee, but it is unclear how Corinthians will enlarge their stadium to the 60,000-capacity required by FIFA. Work is supposed to start next month.

Apart from the stadiums, infrastructure improvements are also required, especially to the inadequate airports.

In Brazil, air terminals are close to saturation point and Sports Minister Orlando Silva has said that is a major obstacle ahead of the World Cup.

^^ It used to be the second biggest stadium in Brazil. I think for the world cup it will be the third but it is not clear yet.

Will the Magalhaes Pinto Stadium's upper tier be modified in any way? (besides new seating)

By the project it not seems to. Just the circulation rows and facilities like bathrooms and bars.

No. Tests had been done to evaluate the structural condition of the stadium roof and they showed that it´s ok unlike the Maracanâ.

The video shows sustainable actions implemented in the Mineirão stadium since the beginning of the constructions in January 2010 according to the international standards in respect to the environment such as the reuse of debris solar energy reuse of rainwater for irrigation and cleaning and low energy lighting.

Where could one find precise renders of the new rooftop?
On some of the images published so far, it looks like it will follow the shape of the lower tier. yet, on others, it seems that it will follow the oval shape of the original ceiling of the stadium.
Despite being more difficult to be projected, I personally think it would look better if it followed the shape of the lower tier.
And which color will it be, anyway?
If it is light blue (as some renders may suggest), than the (red, I guess) chairs would yield a purple look when seen from above, from the helicopters' eyes.
Wouldn't it look better if it was (ruby) red instead? Then the blue sky would be framed by a purple looking rooftop before it met the (red, I guess) chairs...

Actually the Brazilians haven't invented any of these features, most of the stuff mentioned in the clip is in use for a decade or so. So we should say it's great that Brazil is willing to go that way and they're learning now so that others can learn from them in the future :)

The real name of the stadium architects are Eduardo Mender Guimarães Júnior and Gaspar Garreto but it´s a modernist icon indeed. The stadium is part of a modernist architectural complex so thats why its facade is protected by historic heritage.

Brazil hope England friendly will open World Cup venue

England could face Brazil in a friendly designed to mark the re-opening of one of the 2014 World Cup's stadiums.

An upgrading of the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte will be finished by 2013 and the region's state secretary thinks England would be ideal first opponents.

Sergio Barroso said: "We want England to play Brazil in a friendly in the opening match of the new stadium."

England's last match in Belo Horizonte was their infamous 1-0 defeat to the United States at the 1950 World Cup.

The stadium is undergoing reconstruction work to transform it into a state-of-the-art 65,000 capacity venue capable of staging the opening match of the 2014 World Cup.

But there are concerns that Brazilian FA President Ricardo Teixeira may not allow such a warm-up friendly to take place, given his recent comments about England and its media.

Teixeira, who also sits on Fifa's executive committee, said the English "were pirates who could go to hell".

The English FA's general secretary, Alex Horne, flew to Rio de Janeiro last week to improve England's relations with both Brazil and Fifa, following the fall-out from England's unsuccessful bid for the 2018 World Cup.

"We know what Ricardo Teixeira has said about the English, but the opening of the new stadium is more than just what he has said and his view of England," Barroso said.

"I am speaking to him and I am going to ask him to invite England to play here. Fifa says it is all about fair play and the good of the game so let's see what Mr Teixeira will do about it."

"England was the birthplace of football and Brazil developed the game and there are very strong links between our two footballing countries," he added.

No. The gym will suffer only minor adjustments to be used as a media center during the Cup. In fact the gym needs a major reform because it is badly outdated and the largest gym in Latin America deserves better treatment.

I had wished real temples like a steep 3 or 4 tier bowl and not those far away seatings.

Not all Brazilian stadiums will look like this one, though. So generalizing is a bit unfair, especially when this harsh. Curitiba, Natal, Cuiaba, Sao Paulo and Brasilia will be much better in terms of bowl shape than Mineirao, which is a really valuable monument, which - at least for me - makes the case to leave its current form alone.

Shame are you who pass when you say it. The stadium's third tier, this also has, how do you think should to be or have? 4, 5, 6, 10??? This is a shame and not the opposite. Having a stadium in the extreme steep and super great, you lose sight and emotion? I prefer a thousand times a sustainable stadium where most of the year will be above half full, and perfect acoustics and especially in absolute comfort with its coverage, bold architecture and technology and modern without equal in the world. Better than that? Maybe double dose, but would lose the essence, you know?

The stadium has the ring of the bleachers, restaurants, bars, cabins and everything first class and what is most modern in the world in terms of technology and materials.

Brazil is doing everything to make a great World Cup. And in terms of stadiums, simply present the best projects and structures already seen in stadiums throughout the history of the World Cup and even the Olympics, always guiding sustainability, respect for the environment, the public or fans and originality and modernity. In this sense, will be the best World Cup ever held in the world with the best stadiums and in my opinion by far the set of the most beautiful and unique stadiums in the world.

Mineirão Congratulations, your project is beautiful and very, very, very elegant!!!

It is even more impressive when we remember the case of reform and not a new construction. Perfect! :applause::applause::applause:

Oh, and what the next "argument"? When not is the infrastructure are complaining of the projects the stadium ... :|

After that, I really think it does not lack anything else to happen... :yes:
