Its a strange place. As most of the people obviously seldomly semm to go to the city centre which is just one hour away by bus or subway. Most of the people have seen few foreigner and saw me as the main monthly attraction

But even this area is touched by the development. Even the public toilet looked quite modern

Some 500m away, the area changes to an urbanized and modern Shanghai. Nobody looked or cared about me. Two worlds seem to collide on Shanghais northern city limit

Dongan Road (Xuhui district). Newly constrcuted appartments, look a bit like the ones in Britain or Northern Germany

Having just visited Shanghai, this thread was very interesting to browse through. I only had a few days but loved walking around and tried to cover some non-touristy areas as well.

Pictures of non touristy areas tell the truth. I like pictures that show both the good and bad. I would like to see even more.

Great thread! thanks! I would call it "most of Shanghai" since I guess this is the Shanghai most residents live in, and those modern financial districts are mostly for fortunate people, right?
