Stephan23 February 20th, 2009, 05:36 PM ThyssenKrupp's Twin systems for Latifa Tower
on Wednesday, February 18, 2009
ThyssenKrupp Elevator has received an order to supply two Twin systems with a total of four cabs as well as 17 conventional elevators for the Latifa Tower in Dubai.
On completion of the 210-metre-high residential and office building planned for 2010, these will be the first Twin elevator installations in use in Dubai. While the upper Twin cabs in the Latifa Tower will travel in the shafts at up to six metres per second, the lower cabs will reach a speed of up to four meters per second.
In addition to the two Twin systems, two of the 17 conventional elevators are also suitable for use as Twins. If needed, they can be extended into a complete Twin system.

Ni3lS February 21st, 2009, 12:55 AM Nice tower,
Stephan, you forgot how to make a correct thread title?
Dan Hochhaus February 22nd, 2009, 03:30 AM Go, Latifa, Go!!! :)
Bingo! Latifa is coming slow(ly), but tremendous(ly)... burly and slightly overweight, not like the famished skinny top models down the road. ;)
Seriously, about 4 floors in 3 months ain't that fast, compared to the giant HHHR Tower next door, but at least there's some progress. Reminds me a bit of Suntrust Plaza (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=suntrustplaza-atlanta-ga-usa) in Atlanta btw.

but 70 days later (08/May/2009),
and core about 7 floors taller:

Latifa Tower won't be able to compete with new supertall HHHR Tower,
but it seems that construcion is moving on steadily.

Why balconies are against the wall, not the balcony door or so? Are they planing to place additional layers of concrete between those 'balconies'? later?
I just don't get something here

Dan Hochhaus November 30th, 2009, 02:33 PM Indeed... and we're happy for you and your perfect combination of enjoyment and doing a good job, Imre.:)
As for Latifa: what a large footprint! The building is as long as HHHR Tower, but much wider. And construction is still moving steadily: two new floors since Nov 03 and lv40 almost done, I think.
Imre November 30th, 2009, 03:06 PM Thanks:)

45 floors
Dan Hochhaus January 7th, 2010, 10:14 PM Oh - the design has been simplified and shortened. Already at lv40 in December, Latifa won't go that much further.
Guess this one won't top out at +200m and will belong to the "highrise" category only.
germantower January 7th, 2010, 10:22 PM The height reducing was a fatal mistake, this building is so massive that it needs height to get a good heght width ratio. With only 41 floors it will look to bold and massive for my taste, and will badly influence HHHR towers impact on the skyline.
Dan Hochhaus January 8th, 2010, 01:01 AM The height reducing was a fatal mistake, this building is so massive that it needs height to get a good heght width ratio.Agree - most likely Latifa Tower will look rather fat from all angles.
With only 41 floors it will look to bold and massive for my taste, and will badly influence HHHR towers impact on the skyline.Don't think so. I guess Latifa will be almost hidden on most Sheikh Zayed Road panoramas, while HHHR Tower is tall enough to stick out.
Ni3lS January 8th, 2010, 04:19 AM So this is going to be the final height, as seen on Imre's picture? That would suck..

Dan Hochhaus May 4th, 2010, 08:17 PM To keep the running gag here: some new clothes for Latifa, the fat lady,
that is still not full-grown but won't make it to model size anyhow...
In other words: cladding progress here, still not t/o, but will most likely end as "highrise",
not as +200m - "skyscraper". And there are better towers around...
[Off-topic]
...like the twins JAL Hotel (270 m / 60 fl) and Nassima Tower (approx. 200 m / 55 fl) down the road:
what a shame we didn't open a thread here for them. These buidlings are unique!
Now as they're almost done, it's too late, I guess.
But as an appreciation, some pics from Imre's latest set:

Dan Hochhaus November 20th, 2010, 04:37 PM Here's a little comeback for Latifa... she's still in the dressing roomm, wearing a dress with bare shoulders ;) ...means progress is rather slow.
The tower could be t/o, but I'm not sure, especially whith that lone wall on top of the right part.
Picture is part of a great gigapan from Red (http://gigapan.org/gigapans/64973/) by Gerald, and I took snapshots.
