How is that buildings an eyesore? On the opposite, it's the first apartment highrise building in Monaco that actually looks good. The current towers are eyesores...this one is a huge improvement.

brisavoine November 8th, 2010, 07:40 PM Here is the latest article from Nice Matin that I have translated in English for you.
Tour Odéon in Monaco: "Construction is entering an active phase"
Nice Matin
November 2, 2010
http://www.nicematin.com/media_nicematin/imagecache/article-taille-normale-nm/webpipe/2010-11/2010-11-02/NM-312290.jpg
The construction site is about to be split in two parts to anticipate the future construction phases, among them the laying of the foundations. Tour Odéon should be completed and opened in 2014.
Started about a year ago, construction of the Tour Odéon is proceeding on time. The first foundations should be visible in the end of 2011.
The last time we checked it, in February, the construction site looked "terraced". Since then, the construction site, which will celebrate its first anniversary in December, has changed considerably. The first change is visible as soon as you arrive on Avenue de l'Annonciade: a three-story portico, inside which workers and project managers have established their quarters. An identical building should rise next to it in March to house the new workers due to arrive.
On the ground, the cramped construction site has turned into a vast space. Little dust comes out of it, despite the fact that the excavators are still at work. "To date, 50% of the excavations have been conducted" says the architect, Alexandre Giraldi. The workers are currently building micropile retaining walls in the upper part of the site. This is meant to stabilize the steep soil verges. "All the piles have been drilled. We install tie rods and anchors to stabilize the structure, then we spray gunned concrete to build the retaining walls", explains Alexandre Giraldi. "We move 2.7 meters per 2.7 meters, in a few weeks time. Construction is entering an active phase. The construction site looks different from one month to the next", states Patrice Dublé, project manager for Tour Odéon at the Vinci construction company.
The foundations should be completed in the end of 2011
If 2010 was the year or excavations and earthwork, 2011 will be the year of foundations. Their preparation, on the one hand, and their completion, on the other hand. In order to achieve this, the construction site is being split in two parts. There will be an upper construction site and a lower construction site. "A temporary retaining structure will divide the site in two parts. This will allow us to anticipate on the next phases of construction, and free lots of space", explains Alexandre Giraldi. "In the end of 2011 [2010?], the earthwork on the ground floor level will be completed. We'll then start the foundations of Tour Odéon." 150 people should then work on the construction site.
According to the construction managers, the schedule is "respected". They are thus confident that the first floors above ground will rise in 2012. In preparation for this, the assembly of the 170-meter high G2 crane, which will be the tallest of the four cranes used for the construction, has already started. The tower is scheduled to be completed and opened in 2014.

Ternarydaemon November 8th, 2010, 08:46 PM Monaco is too beautiful for a generic glass tower. The apartments from the 60s and 70s boom managed to keep the classic style and colors in modern structures.

It will be built somewhere in the middle of these pics. Doesn't seem out of place for me. Monaco could use a little bit more Hong Kong. ;)

Rich people live there because it's a tax haven. Groceries also aren't expensive, unless you eat at very centrally located restaurants. Other than that, the architecture is beautiful (with exception of the tall commie blocks, admittedly), and so is the nature and general area surrounding the country.
As for the pictures posted above... holy shit, that's some of the sweetest stuff I've ever seen in my life. Imagine living there and swimming in that pool..

Tour Odeon will be on the other side of Monaco.
On the second page you can see some pictures which shows the location of this building.
Saw this core too when I visited Monte Carlo and have no clue what this project could be.
dutchsnookerfan August 7th, 2011, 02:19 PM No it stands next to 2 other pretty tall towers and some bushes.
Himmelwärts August 8th, 2011, 06:05 PM i dont know...i think something with art deco style would fit better to monaco.
aarhusforever August 9th, 2011, 04:19 AM ^^ + 1, BUT I like the design anyway. Can anyone please identify the grey core in the big photo on this page?...perhaps a new 100+ highrise?? anyone?

segwaert August 13th, 2011, 02:21 PM monaco should get more tall buildings. it seems like there is still enough room for more. just demolish some of those small houses at the back.
brisavoine March 5th, 2012, 12:00 PM A huge crane has arrived in pieces on site last week. The tower is now going to emerge from the ground.
PS: According to Monaco Matin, the first floor above the ground will appear in May, and then they will add one floor every week. By the summer the tower will already be 40 meters high. The crane will be 200 meters tall.

The villas behind it are... in a foreign country (France). So they can't do anything against the project. The beauty of international borders. :)

Those houses are in France they can't destroy them, Monaco is only 2km².
R@ptor March 21st, 2012, 02:31 AM I'm definitely looking forward to see this one build. Everything is an improvement compared to those ugly and bland highrises that currently make up the bulk of Monaco's skyline.
OneMelbGuy July 9th, 2012, 12:56 PM Its nickname is the Odious Tower. It's going to shadow all of Beausoleil...now known as Nonsoleil.
cloud32 July 9th, 2012, 01:16 PM I was origionally against this building due to it appearing quite bulkiny in those first couple of pictures but now I am totally for it. It seems to fit well with its surroundings height wise and acually in comparison with its nieghbours it acually seems almost slender. Nice one

Perhaps someone should come and demolish your house, eh. :|
Most "small" houses of Monaco are historical buildings and shouldn't be sacrificed for all this modernist concrete stuff.
The identity and remaining charm of Monaco comes from its historical buildings, like the casino. All those concrete boxes are horrible for the place. The density created by those might be insane, but they sacrificed a lot of heritage for this shit.

You are right!
They are very few of interesting buildings in Monaco, a lot from the 60/70 ties not from the best quality ...
Why they build towers there? because plot is very expensive , so the promoter needs to amortize...and with 50 000/m2 as sell price, he does a good return on investment !

sieradzanin1 March 3rd, 2013, 11:09 AM The 170 m (558 ft) 50-floor Tour Odéon U/C has now reached the 37th floor (at least that was the floor reached on February 17, when a French forumer went there; they may be a few floors higher up now). The 50th floor and spire will be reached by the end of 2013.
The newspaper Nice Matin indicates that the apartments located between the 21st and 29th floors were sold for a price varying between €55,000 and €70,000 per m² (US$6,650 to US$8,500 per sq. foot).
Prices should be even higher further up the tower. The buyers so far are British, Russian, French, and Swiss. Some Monaco citizens are also interested.
The luxury apartments contain marbles, previous woods, large bay windows, wooden floor (parquet). Lighting, blinds, music can be controled via touchscreens located in each room, or by iPad. No traditional light bulbs, only LED.
In the common areas: concierge, spa, swimming pool, gym, and landscaped park with a vegetable garden... for residents who wish to play the gardeners! The services offered will be those of a five star hotel, as is already the case in Asian or American luxury residential buildings. French artist Yann Kersalé has also designed a lighting scheme with LED placed on the cladding of the tower that will change the color of the tower at night depending on the season of the year. This is heralded as a new beacon for Monaco.
Last but not least, the last 5 floors at the top of the tower will contain a 3,300 m² (35,500 sq. ft) penthouse apartment spread over the 5 floors but made up of only 5 very large main rooms. It will be the largest and tallest penthouse in Europe. The master bedroom will measure 600 m² (6,460 sq. ft). The penthouse will contain a private cinema, a ballroom, a private swimming pool, and then a 2nd swimming pool outside with a waterslide going down the 5 levels. Swell. :D
Anyway, for us mere mortals we can at least look at pictures of the beast from the outside.

GOL2007 March 3rd, 2013, 01:42 PM Mhm, interesting prices. So if the measurement after completion results in a 2 sqm smaller apartment than has been agreed in the sales contract, you can buy another Porsche 911 with the saved money! Sweet!
Eric Offereins March 3rd, 2013, 01:43 PM This is a nice and much more modern addition to the skyline. :)
