Vadodara: Kemrock Industries and Exports Ltd, a manufacturer of FRP and composites in India, has commissioned India's first Carbon Fibre Facility near Vadodara in Gujarat. The company has invested nearly Rs. 200 crore in setting up this facility, with technical know-how from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore.

The initial manufacturing capabilities of 400 tpA will produce aerospace grade carbon fiber and prepregs. In the second phase, which is expected to be completed in four to five months, another 400 tpA will be added, taking the capacity of the plant to 800 tpA. The new plant expected to start commercial production soon.

Kalpesh Patel, chairman & managing director, Kemrock Industries, said that the company plans to invest Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 crore ($300 to 400 million) in next five years and Rs 300 to Rs 400 crore for expansion of the Saertex Kemrock JV in the current year. He also said that talks for setting up joint venture projects were progressing.

The project investment of Rs. 200 crores has been financed through a mix of equity, debt and internal accruals.

The carbon fiber manufacturing facility is fully integrated, which includes polymerization, wet spinning, oxidization & carbonization and includes all utilities for effluent & waste management. This integration will ensure the right quality of precursor (special acrylic fiber) for aerospace grade carbon fiber, thereby serving the nation's requirements in those defence & aerospace sectors lead by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.(HAL), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) & Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).

Over the next five years Kemrock is expected to supply supply approximately 1,500 tonnes of carbon fibre products to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).

"With the commissioning of this unit, we complete the most ambitious project since our inception. Today, we unveil a new chapter that would propel our company to greater heights in the coming years. ln-house production of carbon fibre is the first step towards establishing a self sufficient domestic capability to produce composite products for the aerospace, defence and wind energy markets. The carbon fibre capability will be a strategic fit to our existing operations, augmenting our resin production, technical fabric capability and moulding ability," said Kalpesh Patel.

Some of the production from the new plant will be exported to USA, European countries and other countries after meeting the domestic requirements.

The plant was inaugurated by the Former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on Sunday.

Shri.Nitinbhai Patel (Minister-Gujarat State, Water supply,Water Resources (Excluding Kalpsar Division),Urban Development & Urban Housing, Dr. K Radhakrishnan (Chairman, ISRO) (Chairman and Secretary Department of Space), Dr. V K Saraswat (Scientific Advisor to RM and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D), Prof Samir K Brahmachari Director General (CSIR) & Secretary (DSIR) were present on the occasion.

Kemrock Industries and Exports Ltd. manufactures Unsaturated Polyesters, Vinyl Esters, Epoxy and Phenolic Resins & GRP/ FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) Products viz. Gratings, Piping Systems, Pultruded Shapes, Windmill Blade, Lighting Poles, Access Systems, Handrails & Ladders, Carbon Fibre, Rail Coach Interiors & Exteriors, Cable Management Systems, etc. The company's vision is to create and set up a truly Composite Village in India.

Georgia-Pacific Kemrock International Private Limited (GPK) offers high-performance thermosetting resins for a wide range of specialty Industrial applications including Composites, Foundry, and Coated Abrasives. The resins are manufactured by Kemrock Industries at its facility in Vadodara (Baroda), India, and are available to markets in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The products available include phenolic resins developed and licensed by Georgia-Pacific and polyesters, vinyl esters, and epoxies manufactured by Kemrock Industries.

The company expects 25 per cent of it's sales from the composites business.

With Rs 750 to 800 crore orders on hand, Kemrock expects it's turnover to reach Rs 800 crore in 2010-11. The company had a turnover of Rs 364 crore in 2008-09 and approximately Rs 450 crore in 2009-10.

In carbon fibre market Japan is the global leader, with 70 per cent market share.

Currently North America and Europe accounts for about three quarters of the USD 85 billion global composites industry. The Asia-Pacific region represents about 20% of the market and the rest for the world accounting for the remainder. Market projections suggest that Asia will be leading the growth in global composites industry, with CAGR of > 5% by 2013. At this growth rate, Asia will represent around 40% of the total composites market.

THE TALE OF TWO CITIES: MYSORE & BARODA

By Vinay Parameswarappa

Vinay Parameswarappa, Founder, Royal Mysore Walks, is an engineer, who had been working in Singapore for a brief while. Inspired by the extremely well-organised walking tour of Singapore, he decided to return to Mysore, the city of his birth and try out this new venture here. Vinay first started off by organising walking tours of city for the trainee officers coming to the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) on Lalitha Mahal Road before launching his tours commercially.

I was in Ahmedabad recently on an invitation by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Baroda, who was in Mysore sometime back and attended a Walking tour by Royal Mysore Walks. He wanted me to experience the Walking Tours in Baroda. I just couldn't help but notice how similar this city is to our very own Mysore. With so many connections, it could just surprise you !

The Maharajas

Sayyaji Rao Road, the main thoroughfare in Mysore, is named after the Maharaja of Baroda, Sayyaji Rao Gaekwad. The legendary Maharaja is said to have been adopted by the Royal family. The story goes that as a young boy he was asked by the queen as to why he was called to the Palace and the boy grandly announced with confidence , ‘I have come here to rule!’ Impressed, he was appointed the heir apparent. Baroda's reformation as a cultural and academic city was due to his efforts.

One of the main thoroughfares in Baroda is named after Chamarajendra Wadiyar but is more familiarly known as Palace Road! Chamarajendra Wadiyar was an adopted Maharaja too ! Historian Ramchandra Guha says, most Maharajas of India were useless except for two of them — Maharaja Sayyaji Rao Gaekwad of Baroda and Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV of Mysore for their contributions to their respective kingdoms !

Raja Ravi Verma

The famous Fateh Singh Museum of Baroda boasts of good collections of the paintings of Raja Ravi Verma. Ravi Verma even had his studio next to the museum. But this Museum is surely one of the best kept ones in India with a great collection of paintings and sculptures from across the globe. Jaganmohan Art Gallery in Mysore too has some priceless collections of Ravi Verma.

The Musicians

Ustad Faiyaz Khan, the court musician of the Baroda Kingdom, was an exponent in Hindustani classical music. In 1908, a grand competition was arranged in Mysore where he sang so splendidly that he eventually won the top spot for which the Maharaja of Mysore awarded him the title “Aftab-e-Mousiqui” meaning the ‘The Sun of Music’. Veene Sheshanna, the famous veena exponent in the Royal Court of Mysore when on a visit to Baroda, performed for the Gaekwad Maharaja, who was so pleased with the recital that he had Veene Sheshanna carried in a palanquin in a procession.

The Markets

In the heart of Baroda you have the bustling and colourful marketplace Khande Rao Market in a stately building selling fresh flowers, colours and vegetables, built by Maharaja Sayyaji Rao in 1906 to commemorate the silver jubliee celebration of his rule and gifted it to the Baroda Muncipality. Its resemblance to our century-old Devaraja Market is striking.

Clock Towers

You even find quite a few clock towers in Baroda just like how you find them in Mysore. It was generously erected in the city by the Royalty back then for the benefit of their subjects. You find a very prominent one very close to the Baroda City Railway Station.

Laxmi Vilas Palace, Baroda

The majestic Laxmi Vilas Palace in the heart of the city has more than 3000 beautiful stained glass windows, all imported from Belgium. The architect of the Laxmi Vilas Palace was an Englishman named Major Charles Mant, who committed suicide in the 1890s for fear he had got his calculations wrong and that the Palace would fall down ! It still stands strong even today ! Unfortunately this Palace is very poorly maintained and is still the private property of the Royal family of Baroda ! In fact the central Arch of the Amba Vilas Palace in Mysore is modeled after the Laxmi Vilas Palace !

Libraries

You also have an Oriental Library in Baroda which was inspired by the Oriental Research Institute library in Mysore, built in 1887, to commemorate the jubilee year of Queen Victoria reign. The century-old Central Library in Baroda with its scores of rare books has an entire flooring made of Belgium glass and when you walk on it in the first and second floors, it sure makes you jittery. The Central Library of Mysore might not be housed in a similar setting but set up in the Chamarajendra Technical Institute building, once upon a time it sure was a treasure for book-lovers !

Baroda is home to the famous Maharaja Sayyaji Rao University. Initially it started off as Baroda college and later on acquired the status of a University. The Mysore University set up in 1916 was the first among the Princely States in India, for which Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV sent study teams to great Universities around the world to come up with what is the best model for Mysore. Both are housed in beautiful Heritage Buildings !

One could go on with more such familiar sites in Baroda like the imposing Nyay Mandir, the Law Courts, the old city and its town planning, the beautiful man-made lakes, sprawling gardens, cricket grounds and lush green golf courses so much like how it is in Mysore. In fact a popular sweet in Baroda is called Maisur, which is also made from gram flour like our Mysore pak ! As in Dickensenian 'Tale of two cities', there are so many stories that are common between these two cities!

Roundabouts planned on overbridge (http://www.indianexpress.com/news/roundabouts-planned-on-overbridge-in-vadodara/643768/2)

In a first of its kind in the state, Vadodara will have two traffic circles atop the rail overbridge being constructed at the Lalbaug railway crossing. The masterplan of the overbridge has been prepared by the engineers of Bridge Cell, VMC, and an Ahmedabad-based consultant. The construction is expected to be over by March 2011.

Officials said it was important to have roundabouts as traffic will be converging from three sides.

Sources said though the civic body has taken a decision on this, the Traffic Department of the Vadodara police will provide inputs at the end of the project, following which the final specifications and design will be decided. The bridge was designed after VMC had decided to ease the traffic congestion between Lalbaug and Manjalpur. The project is funded under the JNNURM scheme and is estimated at Rs 45.72 crore. Construction work started in 2009 and officials have maintained it will take another year for completion

“The design of the bridge is such that we had to include a traffic circle. We realised that the traffic coming from Vishwamitri Bridge and Palace Road will meet at one point and there are chances that the vehicles would move at high speed. Therefore, monitoring the traffic flow is of utmost importance,” Executive Engineer P M Patel (Bridge Cell) told The Indian Express. The length of the bridge towards Kashivishwanath temple will be around 374.7 m, and 382.41 m towards the Pratapnagar side. From Vishwamitri Bridge, it will be 371.59 m and towards the Makarpura side it will be around 384.84 m.

Apurva Parikh, director of the Multimedia Consultants Private Limited, said: “We have a similar bridge in Ahmedabad at Kalupur, but this becomes the only bridge in the state to have two traffic circles. We had to include the circles as we had to consider the traffic flow coming from different directions. As far as accidents are concerned, we will be putting proper barricades and also traffic signages.”

Vadodara - Mumbai Expressway project picks up pace (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/vadodara/Vadodara-Mumbai-Expressway-project-picks-up-pace/articleshow/6332620.cms)

The ambitious Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway gained momentum with the appointment of Vadodara land acquisition officer as the competent authority for land acquisition. An extraordinary gazette notified this recently.

The expressway begins at Raika-Dodka near the city and will be built till Mumbai after passing through the western outskirts of the city and Sindhrot-Sevasi. Land in Vadodara district will have to be acquired for the project that will shorten the distance between the city and Mumbai. The expressway has a length of around 380 km and will come up on Design, Build, Finance, Operate (DBFO) concept.

Officials in the district collectorate here said that while notification mentions the route of the road through district and villages falling on it, they are yet to get a detailed list of the land survey numbers that fall on the route. "Once this happens, the process of actual acquisition of land will start. As of now we know that we have been authorised to conduct the process," the official said.

As the word regarding land acquisition spread, farmers in the district have started visiting land acquisition officer's office to know the status of their farms. "But, we are not in a position to pinpoint anything at this stage. We will have to wait for the survey numbers of the land on the route of the land to be relayed to us," the official said.

ABB starts wind power generator plant in Vadodara

ABB’s fourth factory dedicated to making generators for wind turbines has been inaugurated in Gujarat, as the Swiss engineering firm trains its focus on the ascendant Indian wind market.

Located in Vadodara, the plant is capable of churning out 100 generators rated up to 2.5MW each month, and will employ 150 people.

Despite the fact that 300 million Indians – more than a quarter of the country’s population – have no access to electricity, India struggles with power deficits of 12% at peak loads, according to Bank Sarasin.

ABB is committed to meeting the Indian wind industry’s “growing need for components” as it races to catch up with domestic demand, says Ulrich Spiesshofer, head of the company’s discrete automation and motion business.

With 11GW in the ground, India is already the world’s fifth largest producer of wind energy, and the country intends to source 15% of its total energy needs from wind by 2030.

In addition to supplying wind turbine makers with generators, yaw and pitch systems, and other components, ABB has emerged as one of the leading cable suppliers to the offshore wind sector.

Cabling, and particularly export cables, which link offshore transformer stations to onshore grids, is seen as a critical pinch point for the offshore wind industry.

ABB recently clinched a $700m contract with the German grid operator to build an 800MW export cable linking to the DolWin1 cluster of wind farms in the German North Sea.

The Zurich-based firm is also supplying the cable for the BritNed Interconnector, linking the Dutch and UK grids, and another interconnector that will run between Wales and Ireland.

ABB will invest Rs 200 crore by the end of 2011 towards setting up new units and expansion of its existing facilities at Maneja.

HALOL (Vadodara): Auto major General Motors India (GMI) will invest over $ 200 million (about Rs 900 crore) to modify existing car manufacturing facility at Halol in Gujarat to make the plant compatible for commercial vehicle production in next 18 months. As part of joint venture with Chinese auto maker SAIC Motor Corporation, GMI is planning to manufacture commercial vehicle in Halol plant from the beginning of year 2012.

Karl Slym, managing director and CEO of GMI, said that the with the joint venture five more models including two in commercial category and three in passenger car segment would be manufacture at General Motor's manufacturing facilities in India. "Already modification of Halol plant has been initiated as the facility was designed as per the car manufacturing point of view. Now we are making body and paint shop bigger apart from new assembly lines for commercial vehicles," said Slym.

Around couple of months back, the company had stopped manufacturing small car Spark at Halol plant in order to create space for commercial vehicle production. The entry level car would now manufacture at Talegoan plant in Maharashtra. Earlier, the car was manufactured at both the facilities. The Maharasthra plant has production capacity of 1.40 lakh unit annually and is specially designed for small cars. Another 1.60 lakh unit capacity is being added at the plant. "At present Halol plants is running on two shifts and as a result of it around 60,000 cars are being manufactured here against the capacity of 85000 vehicles. Once production of commercial vehicle would start here, the plant would run on its full capacity," said P Balendran, vice president, GMI.

Balendran said that around Rs 2,000 crore have been invested in Halol facility as on today and more than 1,200 people are working on company's pay roll. With the new investment and expansion plan on the card, at least 400 new jobs would be created in next couple of years, he added.

Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Beat, the two largest selling hatchback models in GMI's passenger car segment, are being produced at Talegaon plant while Chevrolet's other vehicles including Tavera, Aveo, Aveo U-VA, Cruze and Captiva are manufactured at Halol plant. Apart from two models of commercial vehicles, an entry level sedan would be manufactured at Halol as per the JV agreement with the Chinese partner.

Though production of commercial, multi utility vehicles and passenger cars at GMI's manufacturing units in the country are basically to cater Indian market, the company is aiming to tap Asian and South American market in future, said an official in the company.

Source (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/vadodara/Minister-inaugurates-7th-platform-at-railway-station/articleshow/7484177.cms)Union minister of state for railways Bharatsinh Solanki, who was in the city on Saturday, was expected to throw some light on the policies he would adopt for getting the state more trains during the upcoming railway budget. Instead, he was engaged in making counter claims with former railways MoS Naransinh Rathwa on a project.

Solanki was here to inaugurate the seventh platform at Vadodara railway station and to flag off Valsad-Puri train. Rathwa, who was minister in UPA-1 under the then Union railways minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, claimed that the work on the railway platform had begun during his tenure but could not be completed owing to contract-related issues.

"Many projects were executed during my tenure. The work on this platform too would have been completed much earlier but it got delayed due to contract issues," Rathwa said during his speech.

Solanki, however, said that foundation of the project was laid years ago when Madhavrao Scindia was the railways minister.

The project got delayed due to several reasons and has now been completed. The occasion was also marred by controversies over the inauguration of Chota Udepur broad gauge, which was postponed due to internal differences. Sources said that Rathwa's name was allegedly not included in the invitee's list for the inaugural event of Chota Udepur broad gauge.

Rathwa got upset and decided to skip the event due to which the programme was postponed.

Local BJP leaders suggested Solanki to start more trains in the state as it is growing fast and needs more connectivity.

Solanki explained that Railways is the only department that has not increased ticket prices despite rising prices of other products.

GAIL, VMC form JV for gas project
(http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/vadodara/GAIL-VMC-form-JV-for-gas-project/articleshow/7886976.cms)

VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and GAIL India Ltd signed a formal agreement for the gas project in the city. The civic body has been assured by GAIL that it will provide gas to the city at the lowest rates. The agreement was signed in New Delhi on Monday, sources said.

GAIL is looking to develop the company as a model that will be replicated in other states as well. Senior VMC officials met GAIL functionaries, including c, in Delhi to formalize several issues pertaining for the joint venture (JV). VMC was the first civic body in the country to provide piped gas supply, and after the formation of the JV the network in the city will be increased and new CNG gas stations will also come up.

VMC officials claim that the civic body will still have the distinction of providing piped gas at cheapest rates. "GAIL has agreed to provide us the gas at very competitive rates. The company has strong roots in Vadodara and, hence, has taken up the onus to ensure this," said a senior official.

GAIL has already completed most of the formalities in the project. The asset valuation will be doe through a valuation firm and it would be taking another couple of months to complete.

Anil Group gets approval for Rs 200 cr. mega food park project in Gujarat
Thursday, May 12, 2011 08:00 IST
Archana Aroor, Mumbai

Ahmedabad-based Anil Group of Companies has received an approval from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) to set up a mega food park project in Vadodara, Gujarat, recently.

"This is based on our interest shown to the MoFPI in Feb this year for setting up a mega food park in Gujarat, followed by presentations. The company received an approval in April," Amol sheth, Chairman and MD, Anil Group, informed FnB News in a chat over telephone.

Amol said that the company would form a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), a consortium of companies from food processing, logistics and infrastructure business of which Anil Ltd, under the flagship of Anil Group of Companies, would hold the majority equity.

He informed that the company would invest around Rs 200 crore for the proposed project towards providing infrastructure amenities for food processing industries and the investments would augment depending on the area of land acquisition.

The company had already acquired about 250 acres of land for the project and the project would be a landmark development creation of "farm-to-fork" infrastructure. The company would leverage its presence in corn-wet milling, food processing, milk and diary products and hospitality sectors, to integrate different aspects of food processing and agri-business supply chain.

Amol further explained that as per the MoFPI rules, the company would submit a detailed project report (DPR) by August-end, based on which the ministry would review further procedures.

However, the food park would help in increased realisation for farmers by creating rural processing infrastructure, reduction of wastage and efficient supply chain and it expects to generate direct or indirect employment opportunities for the people.

Meanwhile, the company also aims to create socio-economic impact through new income opportunities for farmers, by contributing towards the upliftment of rural population.

Giving details about the park, Amol further said that the ideal size of the park would be approximately 30 units depending upon the land, comprising a central processing centre, around 7-8 primary food processing units (built in and around 100 -10 km radius), centre for excellence for research and development, quality control and application labs where vocational training would be given to the interested candidates on food processing and new techniques.

About 20-25 per cent food produce in the country is lost due to lack of processing facilities and inadequate infrastructure for post-harvest. This offers huge investment opportunities across all sectors of food processing.

Finally, Gotri gets its own police station
May 10, 2011, 10.42pm IST
VADODARA: The city got one more police station on Tuesday. Gotri police station will cover posh areas like Alkapuri, Akota and Gotri. The area was earlier covered by J P Road police station. However, with population increasing on the western end of the city, including Gotri-Sevasi Road, Vasna and Tandalja, the proposal to build a new police station came up.

The new police station has come up on a property owned by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) located near Yash Complex in Gotri. "The Gotri police station is supposed to come up in Diwalipura area on permanent basis. However, it will take some time before the proposal is cleared. Hence, we have started temporary police station in a building that earlier had VMC`s ward office," a police official said. BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla, mayor Jyoti Pandya, police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana and local MLAs were present during the function.

The city police had carved out Manjalpur police station in February this year from Makarpura police station that used to cover a huge area towards southern end of the city.

Centre of excellence for nursing to come up in city

May 7, 2011, 10.30pm IST

VADODARA: The first ever centre of excellence for nursing will come up in the city. The foundation stone for the college of nursing that will also serve as the centre of excellence was laid in the city on Saturday.

The nursing college will come up at the Vaccine Institute land on Old Padra Road. The institute is being built at a cost of Rs 40 crore. The state government plans to develop it as a state-of-the-art facility to cater to the future needs in nursing that is expected to become more and more special.

State health minister Jay Narayan Vyas said the nursing institute would provide BSc, MSc and PhD courses. "Nursing is an emerging profession that has bright prospects in the future. According to the Planning Commission, the country will need 12.5 lakh nursing professionals by 2025," Vyas said.

Vyas said the centre will emphasise on specialized nursing courses. "Like medicine, we will need specialized nursing professionals for oncology, neurology, cardiology and infectious diseases," he added.

Vyas said the institute would be amongst the best in the country . The nursing institute at SSG Hospital will eventually be merged into the new centre. The existing nursing institute is the oldest in the state and had come up in 1926 during the reign of the visionary Maharaja Sayajirao III. Vyas said the infrastructure at the new institute would be sufficient for 150 students. At its beginning, it will cater to 60 graduate students, 30 post-graduate and PhD students depending on the registrations made.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/vadodara/Harni-airport-set-for-swanky-makeover/articleshow/8352489.cms

AHMEDABAD: That block of concrete that Barodians call airport will soon go aerodynamic. After a two-year wait, work on the new integrated building at the Harni airport will finally take off in July and will be completed in 18 months. Former Union aviation minister Praful Patel had initially promised a fully operational international airport by the end of 2010.

The new terminal building will be designed like an airplane with an aerodynamic roof. While the existing terminal is housed in a 7,600 sq m area, the new one will be spread across 17,500 sq m.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) sources said a Delhi-based firm has been selected to construct the Rs 115-crore terminal. Another Delhi-based firm 'Creative Group' has designed the airport. "Approaching the new terminal, passengers will see its aerodynamic volume levitating above the landscape," said a senior AAI official.

The terminal will be able to handle 700 domestic and international passengers during peak hours. It will have a stepped pool separating the visitor area and the check-in zone. Apron services will also be extended for parking seven aircraft.

For supervising the work, AAI has picked up Ahmedabad airport's general manager (engineering projects) N K Shukla. He said the work to raze the existing structure has begun.

Last week, Vadodara MP and state BJP general secretary Balkrishna Shukla had threatened an agitation across central Gujarat if work on the airport did not start soon. Currently, Harni airport operates a few flights to domestic destinations like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore daily.

"The former aviation minister had laid the foundation for a new terminal in February 2009. It is good to know the project is finally taking off. International flights will see healthy traffic round the year as many from Vadodara and Anand are settled abroad," said a Vadodara-based businessman.

An IT based Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is being constructed on 550 acres land area in Nimeta, Vadodara by Nipiam Infotech Private Limited in a joint venture with a Singapore firm.

This SEZ will include high class facilities like residential township, hospitals, schools, clubs and recreation for employees of Nipiam.

It is being considered as one of the largest projects in Vadodara, with total investment expected to reach Rs2,600 crores on its completition.

Since Vadodara is famous as a cosmopolitan city and majority of its citizens are educated, it was selected for the SEZ.

SEZ will be constructed in five phases. First phase, which is to be concluded in 18 months, comprises basic infrastructure for the IT park on 100 acres of land.

Construction of satellite residential township for employees and facilities like schools and colleges to impart education will be carried out in the second phase.

Fourth phase will include facilities like custom house, banking and ATM, warehouse and a local and international bank branch enabling foreign exchange transactions.

A textile and diamond park is to be constructed on 50 acres land area in the fifth phase, which will include an exceptional economic export promotion zone (EPZ) for diamonds and textiles.

Hope this project does go as promised & in full swing.

Any news about the DLF's IT parks?

I read somewhere that it got cancelled, they have backed out, saying it is not viable.

^^ This project has a new name of Chervil SEZ (http://www.chervil.co.in/locational_advantages.php) (+ major redesign) Another decent looking upcoming SEZ close to Vadodara is the Synefra SEZ (http://synefra.com/sez_projects_vadodara_synefra.html).

All DLF proposals in Gujarat were cancelled after Global Financial Crisis, no indication that DLF are looking at the state since.

Jetalpur over-bridge to overshoot deadline againTNN Jul 21, 2011, 11.30pm IST
VADODARA: The completion of Jetalpur railway over-bridge may miss its deadline once again. The project has been delayed well beyond its time limit due to a variety of reasons. This time around the civic body is blaming the monsoon for the delay.

Work on the over-bridge had begun in April 2008 and it was expected to get over in a year's time. However, service lines, cables and some encroachments led to delay of the work initially. Later, the railways found it difficult to get a contractor for doing the work above its tracks. While Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) was doing the work for the remaining part of the bridge, the railways were to make the part above the tracks for which the VMC was to pay the expenses.

While the spans leading to the portion above the tracks were ready since quite some time, work on laying the girders for the central portion above the tracks began on May 8. It was expected that this would get over in July. However, the VMC officials said that this deadline, too, may not be met due to delays in work.

The VMC officials were initially hopeful that the work will get over in June itself. But delays ensured that the deadline was extended till July 31. "The contractor had assured that the work will get over by July 31. But work has been delayed due to the rains recently. We now hope that it will get over in the first half of August," VMC standing committee chairman Shabdasharan Brahmbhatt said.

VMC officials said the Lalbaug railway over-bridge may also be delayed as work on laying its girders by railways had to be postponed due to a snag in one of its cranes. The work resumed on Wednesday.

VMCs Health Centres set for Giant Leap (http://www.indianexpress.com/news/vmcs-health-centres-set-for-giant-leap/821491/)

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation plans to upgrade four of its Urban Health Centres in as many zones into multi-speciality hospitals, Deputy Municipal Commissioner R K Sugur said, adding the recruitment process for hiring additional staff has already been initiated.

“To ensure better health services at affordable prices for city residents, we have decided to develop the infrastructure and hire additional staff. The advertisement for recruitment under National Urban Health Mission has already been given. We will be hiring urban medical officers, laboratory assistants, pharmacists, laboratory technicians and other administrative staff at these UHCs, which will be no less than multi-speciality hospitals,” Sugur said.

The city has 19 UHCs, which were upgraded last year.

A health official said that once these health centres are upgraded, they will ease the burden on SSG Hospital, which is overflowing with patients.

“While all have agreed in principle for the project, we will formally move the proposal in the standing committee and later a final decision would be taken in the general board meeting,” Sugur said.

Can someone list the sector-wise major employers in the city? Also the video talks about Baroda being a hub for medical tourism. I know that Baroda is a fast growing city, but never associated the city to medical tourism and it is a news to me. More info on that front too please.

I have been to Baroda once for site evaluation for one of my ex-company and really loved the place. Another reason why I like the city is I see lot of similarity between Vadodara and my native Coimbatore :)

New flyover to be named after Sayajirao, VUDA plans two ring roads (http://deshgujarat.com/2012/01/28/vadodara-to-get-new-flyover-named-after-sayajirao-gaikward-third-this-monday-vuda-plans-two-ring-roads/)

The city of Vadodara will get a new Lalbag flyover this Monday. It has been named as Shriman Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad third. This is one project that citizens of the southern parts of the city have been following very eagerly.

Rs 51 crore Lalbag bridge will be opened for public by state urban development minister Shri Nitinbhai Patel. Two ends of Manjalpur and Kashi Vishwanath mandir will be two way, while Vishwamitri railway station and Pratapnagar ends will remain one way. The bridge is the first of its kind project taken up by the civic body with approaches to multiple directions. It has four approaches towards Pratapnagar, Vishwamitri Road, Rajmahal Road and Manjalpur and two ‘Y’ junctions to distribute the traffic going towards different directions.

Construction of this railway over bridge, as per disclosures made by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation to JnNURM began in February 2009 and a deadline of January 2011 was set. However, this had to be revised and later it was set for March 2011 completion.

In another development, Vadodara Urban Development Authority(VUDA) has planned two six lane ring roads for the city. While 90 meter wide ring road will be 63 kilometer long, the 75 meter wide ring road will be 42 km long.

The first ring road to be constructed will be a 42 km one. It will start from Alamgir and will pass through Ratanpur, Shankarpura, Manpura, Umeta, Sukhlipura, Dumad and Dhanora. Construction of several over bridges is planned at railway crossing, Vishwamitri river and express way junction.

The second ring road will pass through national highway no 8, Dodaka, Fajalpur, Sherkhi, Sangma, Sokhda-Khurd, Patod, Chansad, Vadasla, Alhadpura, Pavlepur, NImeta, Bhavpura, Bhaniara, Asoj and Sokhda.

The term medical tourism is very loose, so wont comment directly on that.

However, vadodra has several private sector hospitals that can be considered speciality and offer good medical services at relatively cheaper costs. They are not national chains, but the doctors are generally well regarded.

If you want some specific information, I might be able to dig it up.

As someone pointed out, due to lack of international connectivity, these are not as famous as say the Appolo Hospital in Chennai. Were connectivity to Ahmedabad improved especially connections to East Africa, UK etc, these would definitely take-off.

Thank u for sharing; very refreshing to hear that there might be resurgence.

I actually did not agree with Some points. For instance, the city benefitted very marginally due to Public sector investment around; if anything, they utilized the city resources and provided nothing in return.

Vadodra also missed the software driven growth due to it's reliance on engg industries. However, that might be about to change. I think the German growth model is probably more appropriate than others here.

Anyone residing in our beloved city can post an update on the airport status with pictures if possible? I haven't been to our city since last 5 years and thereby have no idea of whats going on there. Googling didn't reveal anything either.

(Sorry this is a re-post as I didn't notice this (more active) thread earlier.)

I will be going this July, and looking at all these projects I hope to be coming to a completely new place ;)

Thanks.

IOC sheds conservative image - expansion plans for refineries (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/article3415591.ece?homepage=true&ref=wl_home)

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the country's largest public sector refiner, is shedding its conservative and cautious image.

Compelled to meet domestic requirements first, the company is reworking its refinery strategy which will allow it greater flexibility in deciding crude oil sourcing and eventually cut down operating costs.

Mr Rajkumar Ghosh, Director (Refineries), Indian Oil, said, “The company is evaluating its refinery capacity – adding new capacity or up gradation of existing refineries – based on the assessments given by our marketing division.”

IOC proposes to expand the Gujarat refinery from the current 13.7 million tonne a year to 18 mt by 2016-17. Other expansions include Panipat to 18 mt, Mathura to 11 mt and a grassroot refinery in the West Coast with a capacity of 15 mt.

Police stations get new look (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/vadodara/Police-stations-get-new-look/articleshow/13496456.cms)

VADODARA: The city police have started sprucing up its police stations in the city. Four out of the 16 police stations have already completed work in this regard while the others will do so soon.

The move to start working on the police stations was taken up after it came to light that most of them were not maintained properly. Many had not even painted their walls for quite some time now.

After a visit to all the police stations in the city, police commissioner Satish Sharma ordered that they must be spruced up. Officers said this not only improved the work environment, but also left a good impression on those who had to visit them.

Sharma said work had been completed at Karelibaug, City, Chhani and Wadi police stations. The work was conducted with the help of donors who were willing to help the city police.

Besides whitewash, the police stations have also conducted work like putting up furniture and pots on the police station premises. Chhani police station has even procured computers for the police station.

I wouldn't agree. There's a very balanced six-part series in Economic Times on what works and doesn't work in Gujarat. There has been lots of positive coverage on VGGIS in Times of India and even Business Today had a cover story on Gujarat a year or so ago.

^^ National media never shows interest in Gujarat's development. They only show terror of NaMo in Gujarat. They take all the projects negatively. But why to complain for national media, our own regional media is oppose to development. In local news paper they only show numbers of murders, accidents, corruption charges and other issues. They never shows positive side of government and what development work is under taken by government. We have such huge project like GIFT near Ahmedabad but our media never shows interest in what's going there. They only says that "Modi's terror - 3 workers killed during construction of towers"

Mostly trash, not worth reading.

I will give a single example to prove my point, that can be extrapolated to several other sectors.

Growth in Gujarat took off after Makrand Desai (Jan Sangh) developed the electric infrastructure in the Janata Morcha (front) Govt. All this went down the toilet after Congress started giving out free electricity, free this, free that.

During the growth period, there was a need to develop transport infrastructure especially between Amdavad-Vadodra. Land was identified for India's 1st expressway. Dutifully, Indira came and laid the foundation stone. Nothing happened. Then Rajiv came and laid the foundation. Still nothing happened, except of course Congressmen getting rich.

Then came Modi, and now u have Sardal Patel Expressway. And numerous other projects.

Most of these St Xavier types reporting for TOI are too intellectually challenged to understand details. Just because they know a bit of English does not equate to critical thinking.

Another good example of the media's step-motherly treatment of Gujarat would be the complete ignorance of GIFT city. I hav'nt seen a single mention of GIFT in the electronic media. Has any news channel ever done a special programme on GIFT? No, its all IT, IT and more IT.

Even for TOI it took an accident at GIFT to provide us with the first site pic.

VADODARA: Cricket-loving Barodians can finally hope to enjoy international cricket in a state-of-art stadium.

Over a decade of after promising cricket stadium to the citizens, the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has finally purchased a huge piece of land for constructing the stadium. The land is located on Jarod Road about 7.5 kilometres from the Halol Road toll tax.

BCA authorities said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been signed with the owners of the land.

The stadium to be built at a cost of Rs 100 crore will boast of quality cricket ground, seating arrangement for over 40,000 people, four practice grounds, practice wickets, spacious rest rooms and modern facilities for players that includes gymnasium and swimming pool.

A senior BCA official said that association has made deal to buy about 2.52 lakh square meters of land. The land will cost BCA over Rs 20 crore. "The entire plot is agricultural land and there are no hiccups in the deal like the previous ones. We have already inked an MoU with the owners who belong to the same family. In fact, we have already got clearance for acquiring half of the land while permission for the rest half will follow soon," the official said.

"Members of the BCA managing committee too were shown the land and they all have approved it. We will soon begin the process of inviting tenders for the stadium construction. BCA will soon have its own cricket stadium that will be one of the best in the country," the official added.

When contacted, BCA secretary Sanjay Patel said, "The process of acquiring the land is on and we will make official announcement on the stadium project soon."

Sources, however, said that the acquisition process will complete within two months following which construction will begin. The BCA had attempted to buy three different lands for stadium earlier, but it failed on all occasions.

BCA has been hosting international matches at Reliance Stadium for last several years

http://i5.dainikbhaskar.com/thumbnail/250x216/web2images/www.divyabhaskar.co.in/2012/07/17/images/Stadium1.jpgVADODARA: Cricket-loving Barodians can finally hope to enjoy international cricket in a state-of-art stadium.

BCA has been hosting international matches at Reliance Stadium for last several years.

Rs 600 Cr BRTS in Vadodara to have a 52km network (http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/rs-600cr-brts-in-vadodara-to-have-a-52km-network/977475/)

The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for Vadodara will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore and will have a network of 52 kilometres, covering 14 focal points across the city.

According to the feasibility report prepared by the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University, the transport system will cover central city areas through a north-south-east-west corridor.

The BRT system in Vadodara is slated to be different from the existing one in Ahmedabad as it aims to provide an alternate Integrated Public Transit System (IPTS). “The feasibility report and further plans will not focus entirely on the BRTS but on a complete integrated system of public transport. While the BRTS will concentrate on the core areas of the city, local buses are to support this as feeders,” said H M Shivanand Swamy, associate professor at CEPT.

Swamy, who heads the project, has been associated with similar projects for BRTS in Ahmedabad.

In the first phase, there will be around 80 stations — a station after every 500 metres — on a 40-kilometre stretch of the BRTS corridor.

The remaining stretch of 12 kilometres will be developed in the second phase.

The focal points on these corridors include Raj Mahal road, RC Dutt road, Kalaghoda, Kothi, BSNL T junction, Karelibaug, Lalbaug, Labour chokdi, Makarpura, Susan Circle, Old Padra road, GEB, Gotri, GSFC, Fatehgunj, airport, Waghodia road and Baroda Dairy.

Though the limitation of road widths in Vadodara is considered as one of the concerns for the planning team at CEPT, in the first phase, the corridors have been restricted to the inner city areas.

At present, nearly one lakh passengers use the bus service in Vadodara on daily basis. There is a fleet of 90 CNG buses (63 mini and 27 regular buses). These ply on 40 different routes with 124 stops.

While this shows a sign of prosperity, it is bad for the city environmentally. Both Delhi and Chennai are notorious for their terrible traffic jams, with more cities heading that way.

Although Vadodara has enough greenery to combat pollution...

Guj to be second most urbanised state by 2030 Ahmedabad, Vadodara To Be Among Richest Cities In India

By 2030, Gujarat will be the most urbanised Indian state after Tamil Nadu. More, Ahmedabad and Vadodara will be two of the richest cities in the country after Delhi and Bangalore. An authoritative report prepared by McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) has predicted that within two decades around 66 per cent of Gujarat’s population will start living in urban areas as against 44 per cent in 2008. While this will make Gujarat as the second most urbanised state, fast catching up with Tamil Nadu, the report indicates this will happen because the rate of urbanisation in Gujarat over the next two decades will be higher than any other state. Called ‘India’s urban awakening: Building inclusive cities, sustaining economic growth’, MGI report says the states that exhibit higher GDP rates also will experience higher urbanisation rates in the next two decades. In the last two decades Gujarat’s GDP grew at the compound annual growth of 7.5-8 per cent — in 2010-2030 it will increase to 8-8.5 per cent, higher than any major state. An analysis of how major cities of India will develop over the next two decades, the MGI report states Ahmedabad, which will have a population of 8.4 million in 2030, will also be one of the richest Indian cities, having per capita GDP of $8,100, next only to Delhi ($11,400), Bangalore ($12,600) and – interestingly – Vadodara ($8,500). Counted at 2008 prices, all other major cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune, will have lower per capita GDP. The report also says that Gujarat’s cities would need massive investments, more than most other cities, to upgrade their infrastructure to meet city needs. At 2008 prices, by 2030, Ahmedabad would need $246 per capita investment, Surat $235 and Vadodara $ 263. “More than half of the capital expenditure is necessary to erase infrastructure backlog and the rest to fund cities’ future needs,” the report underlines. While transportation and affordable housing have been identified as two of the most capital intensive sectors that would need investment, the report has identified 19 urban clusters in India, including two in Gujarat – Ahmedabad- Vadodara-Surat and Bhavnagar-Rajkot-Jamnagar – where rapid transport system, especially eight to ten lane express ways, is a must for “seeding” infrastructure growth. These urban clusters would need a per capita investment of $50.

Five HOTTEST real estate cities to watch out for in India

http://im.rediff.com/getahead/2011/dec/19city11.jpg

Siddhesh Joglekar, founder of Estatelister.com lists out reasons why these five cities could emerge as the best real estate investments in the New Year.

Real estate in India is perhaps one of the most vibrant and ever growing sectors of the country with seemingly limitless opportunities.

India figures in the list of one of the real estate markets every global consultant of repute recommends to invest.

The traditional favourite real estate hotspots like the tier 1 cities of Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bangalore have seen huge influx of money in the recent years. However, are these cities still hotspots with potential for astronomical rates of returns? We think there are better investment options in India that are unexplored and can turn out to be the top tier Indian real estate hotspots of this decade as well.

We looked at the following factors while including a city in this list -- (note that the list is indicative and not exhaustive). Note that non-inclusion in this list does not imply lower the importance of any city or town anywhere in the country.

Availability of resources -- (Water, electricity etc.)
Infrastructure development
Connectivity with key economic centres
Pace of growth & overall growth potential
Presence of established players in strategic sectors
Quality of projects
Governmental support (State and National)

Municipal commissioner proposes vision document for 2030

VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner has proposed a vision document for the city titled 'Vadodara 2030'. The proposed document will look into the needs of the city till 2030 and will suggest a path to reach there.

An announcement regarding the vision document was made in the draft budget proposed by VMC commissioner M K Das. The draft budget has proposed that a consultant should be roped in to prepare the document.

Das said the need for vision document was felt in the wake of a study by McKinsey and Company that had revealed that the population of the city would reach 42 lakh by 2030 from the present 18 lakh. Vadodara is expected to become the 13th largest city in the country and the third largest in state.

Das said the report suggests that the city would be one of the fastest growing cities and third in the country in terms of per capita income after Bangalore and Delhi. "The corporation will have to brace itself up with this kind of development," he said.

Das pointed out that city's growth will be fuelled by factors that it was on the dedicated freight corridor and on the Mumbai Expressway. "It will be at a great advantage," he said.

The document will look into the issues like traffic management, pollution control, making the city slum free, taking a citizen friendly approach and improving environment. "It will also look into the financial position of the civic body and the steps required to take care of the financial needs in the future," Das said.

Vadodara BRTS

Hey guys, on a bit of a roll :okay:

But to keep the forum useful, please always provide links and try to keep info from news or other reputed sources.

Also beware that a lot of builder/broker websites are full of bakwaas to fool ppl, dont fall into that trap and end up reposting here. In the last couple of pages theres been a few post that unfortunately fall into that category.

And lastly dont forget we have the Gujarat discussions thread (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1349165&page=22) for things that might be interesting talking points but are not really "projects", like the McKinsey city surveys.

Eventually if we get more Barodians on board, might be worth having a seperate thread for Baroda discussions also.

Cheers

Int. Airport in Vadodra? Seriously?

It would be better to hope for one decent centrally located airport in Gujarat that has reasonable chance of pooling resources, market and therefore attract good number of flights!

Federa fits your description.

Instead of having smaller and regional intl airports at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar, they should pool all their resources and make Federa one giant intl hub and connect it to all the 4 cities by expressways.

But yes, a decent domestic airport is a must for all these 4 cities...

We always desire to find out inner bliss, and seeking a retreat from the daily hectic schedule, mundane life. A place where you could relax, rejuvenate and experience life as a celebration.
A place where the elderly, the youth & the young one’s find solitude, Vadodara is ready to make reality your dreams.
As in the current scenario Gujarat has witnessed of huge growth in real estate sector. However, Indian real estate sector is not doing well from last couple of years due to high rise in property prices as well as home loan rates.
Contrary to this in Gujarat there is upsurge in housing demands. To fulfill the housing demands thousands of new projects are coming with affordable prices, particularly Vadodara the seventh largest city of India now has become the second fastest city across the country in development sector.
The city is flamboyant for its vibrancy and an attitude of celebrating life along with its spirit of entrepreneurship. A rising centre of education, information technology and scientific industries, Vadodara remains the cultural and commercial heart of Gujarat and much of western India. It is proving to be an ideal city for acquiring residential and commercial property due to excellent infrastructure that the city has and the kind of facility it offers.
The city, bestowed with all the features essential and ideal for growth, has seen some major developments take place. Key projects in the form of SEZs, hotels, integrated townships, gated communities as well as specialty townships such as financial products, townships and IT corridors have come up in a big way. The city is well connected, internally as well as externally through its elaborate transit systems, adding to its commercial value.
The contemporary state of real estate sector in Vadodara is increasing day to day even more in the near future. Moreover, real estate market in Vadodara offers a mix of product categories comprising of residential apartments, bungalows, twin bungalows, row houses, plotted schemes, farm houses, commercial as well as retail spaces.
The citizens of Vadodara are dreaming of “Swarnim Gujarat” Golden Gujarat and it will be reality as soon as Narender Modi’s vision for 2015 – BARODA will be completed.
Narender Modi’s vision for 2015 – BARODA comprises the following projects:
KAVI KABOI
> Silicon City coming up in Vagodiya towards Hwy NH8,
> Fabulous City Model houses displayed in ASSEMBLY – Gujarat on June 1, 2006
> Vadodara reaching for sky. It’s an 89 storey tower in SAYAJIGANJ Near Vishwamitri
> Area Satellite City in Vasana Gotri road
> Fertilizer Nagar Industrial Town with New City Model, 5 Km from Chhani
> New Township in Padra Village , 20 KM from Vadodara,
> Foreign Trade Center , HarniRoad, 7 Km from Vadodara,
> Film Nagar (city) at Ajwa Road , latest movie industry,
> World Tourist Place & Culture City , coming up in Ajwa-Nimeta Road,
> Gujarats’ Largest Theme/Amusement Park in Ajwa Garden, to be completed by 2015
> Childrens’ Park in near Kamatibaugh, prestigious project given to Switzerland to build
Comparatively with other metro cities property prices in Vadodara are still reasonable and affordable housing for Aam Admi is not a dream but reality.
Apart from the Narendra Modi’s Vision-2015 there are also several proposed projects will enhance the growth of region.
Proposed Infrastructure Projects:
> An investment of INR 19 billion (USD 452 million) is proposed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban infrastructure projects in the city.
> Ring Road development is envisaged to be completed by 2010.
> A Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) is proposed to enhance existing public transport system.
> The Vadodara- Surat National Highway is expected to be completed by 2012.
> Vadodara airport is proposed to be developed as an “Aircraft Maintenance Hub” for the western part of India.
As far as transport and parking system concerns the city has three flyovers and railways under bridges each. The river Vishwamitri has 11 bridges interconnecting the city areas. The road network within the city is well developed in almost 70% of the area and caters to around 80% of the city’s total population. More than 80% of the roads are surfaced of which most of them are black topped while 19% of the roads are earthen.
Also, the increased vehicular population has resulted in increased vehicular traffic on the roads. The major roads and intersections experience traffic congestion during peak hours.
, i want to ask these are just fakes or these projects will be taken off in future bcz compare to surat and amd city s projects are being delayed too much (

The Vadodara collectorate has planed to project the district as the best investment destination in the state during the next Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit to be held in January 2013.

To execute the plan, the district administration has collaborated with the Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI). As per the agreement, FGI will set up an exhibition focusing on agri-engineering and automobile industry at the summit venue — Mahatma Mandir — in Gandhinagar. While the collectorate will provide legal advice to industries, FGI will play the role of a facilitator.

According to District Collector Vinod Rao, Vadodara has an edge over other districts in attracting investment. “Land prices here are lower than Ahmedabad and Surat. Besides, the city offers high quality of life at low cost. We have excellent infrastructure. We have an airport, a port nearby in Dahej and an excellent road and rail connectivity. The district is a power hub,” he said.

FGI believes big-ticket investment will boost ancillary industries in the district. “Vadodara is a manufacturing hub for electrical goods. Hero is coming up at Halol besides General Motor’s plant there. Vadodara has the potential to emerge as an auto-ancillary hub as well,” said FGI vice-president Amit Patel.

Chinese transformer manufacturer TBEA and TTK Prestige Group of India are among the companies which will be setting up manufacturing facilities in Karjan taluka of the district after signing separate memoranda at the last investors’ summit.

Rao said his office would soon set up an industry cell at the district collectorate to exclusively handle matters of land and other clearances. “Many a time, industrialists end up buying land that later turns out to be disputed. This leads to delays, and sometimes, cancellations of projects. To overcome such issues, the industry cell will guide investors what type of land to buy,” he added.

He said that through this cell, applications which normally take a month, would be disposed of within two-three days.

On the other hand, FGI will engage a panel of experts to help investors from India and abroad. “FGI experts will guide investors in matters related to land, excise and VAT registrations, labour and a host of other issues,” Patel said.

Incidentally, as part of a larger plan, the collectorate had applied for an ISO 9001:2008 certificate of Bureau Varitas India for quality services. Last week, Bureau Varitas decided to award the certificate after conducting an audit.

2. TERMINALS AT VADODARA AIRPORT The existing domestic terminal at Vadodara Airport is distinct from other airports due to its mix of Gujarati and architectural styles complete with domes on the roof. The terminal is small and cannot handle large numbers of passengers. To enhance the capacity of the airport as well as to launch internationalservices, it was decided to construct a new Integrated Terminal Building. An international architectural design competition was held to invite designs for the new terminal. Eventually, a design submitted by United States-based consortium Gensler, Frederic Schwartz Architects and Creative Group from India won the competition and the contract to design the new terminal was awarded to them.[1]

3. New Expandable Modular Integrated Terminal Building at Vadodara Airport The New Integrated Terminal at Vadodara Airport is an iconic and sleek contemporary structure featuring an arching, sweeping roof that spans the entire length of the terminal. Inspired by the body and wings of airplanes, the building’s bold sweeping form and identity is achieved by wrapping the East and West sides and the roof with one continuous aerodynamic metal skin A large overhang on the North (cityside) shelters the transparent facade while shading and protecting passengers along the curbside. This profile then creates an overhang on the South (airside) so that the panoramic glass curtain wall is completely shaded from the strong sun. The volumetric proportion of the interior spaces combined with filtered natural light from skylights above and the sound of flowing water will activate and enliven the experience inside the terminal.

VADODARA: Vadodara Marathon (VM) that became small city's biggest marathon last year will accomplish yet another first in the country.

VM that used to organize international half marathons is planning to host 42 km full marathon from next year. It has got provisional permission from the Association of International Marathons (AIMS) for organizing full marathon.

If organized, it will make Vadodara first small city in the country to host a full marathon recognized by AIMS. Also, it is the only city in Gujarat to organize a recognized full marathon.

AIMS is the apex body that manages marathons in 90 countries across the globe has given recognition to only eight marathons in India. Except Vadodara, all other cities hosting marathon are far bigger in size and population. "The other AIMS-recognized marathons are held in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. If we host international full marathon in February next year, we will become first small city in the country to do so. We have already organized three international half marathons in the past successfully," said VM director Amit Bhatnagar.

A two-member team of AIMS will visit the city on September 15 to chalk out and measure the route for the full marathon. After their approval, the route will be finalized. VM will have to give three alternative routes to the team of which one will be finalized. VM has this year formed a board of 25 representatives that will include NGOs, clubs and trade associations.

Sources in VM, however, said that they will have to seek necessary permissions from the police and civic body. "We will have to inform the cops about the route considering the traffic and security issues. After taking their approval, we will take final decision," said a VM office-bearer.

VM has already organized three international half marathons successfully in the past and it is also planning to apply for gold standard from International Association of Athletics Federation

NEW DELHI: Commuters in cities that have population of more than 20 lakhs can look forward to more comfortable and safer rides, if state governments are willing to opt for modern Metro network for intra-city travel.

The Union urban development ministry has decided to consider the proposal for Metro in Tier II cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Indore, Nagpur, Kochi, Coimbatore, Kozhikode. The Metro fever is catching up in smaller cities, thanks largely to the success of Delhi Metro. Cities like Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Bhopal are making a case for Metro, even though they don't qualify because of the population cut-off.

Jaipur is likely to be the first Tier-II city to get the swanky mode of transportation as the state government has agreed to bear Rs 1,250 crore for the 9.25-km stretch under Stage I. However, the Rajasthan government has sought Centre's approval for viability gap funding for stage II - a 25.91-km stretch between Ambabari to Sitapura via SMS hospital - that is estimated to cost Rs 7,700 crore.

Kochi has also jumped on the bandwagon. The UD ministry will soon seek the Cabinet's nod for the project: a 25.3-km stretch, extending between Alwaye to Petta, to be built at a cost of Rs 4,722 crore.

Ludhiana, Pune, Lucknow and Ahmedabad have got detailed project report (DPR) for metro projects prepared from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), while DPRs for Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh is being prepared.

The ministry seems keen to run Metro in Nagpur as UD minister Kamal Nath has written to Maharastra chief minister Ashok Chavan, asking him to get a DPR for the Orange City prepared.

Though Kanpur, Patna, Surat, Coimbatore and Kozhikode make the grade for Tier-II cities, they are lagging behind in availing of the Centre's offer. "If state governments come with the proposal for Metro Rail in cities with 20 lakh plus population, the ministry is ready to consider," Nath said.

The ministry has decided to bear 50% of the cost of the preparation of DPR for cities that come under the population cut-off bracket. Among the 19 cities, which have more than 20 lakh population as per Census 2011, Metro projects are under different stages of implementation in four -Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Metro is running in the National Capital since 2006 on different routes, while Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is implementing Phase III of the project.

Mumbai has taken up metro projects-Line 1 (11.07 km), Line 2 (31.87 km) - on PPP model at an estimated cost of Rs 10,016 crore. For Line-3 (20.4 km Colaba-Mahim/Bandra corridor), which will cost about Rs 12,015 crore, it has opted for the DMRC model, to be funded by both the Centre and the state.

Kolkata Metro, which is the first one in the country, has taken up a new 14.67-km east-west corridor that will be implemented by railways. Chennai is implementing a 45.05-km project on the DMRC model.

Bangalore has become first city in south to have Metro after a 7-km stretch was commissioned in October. The city has already got the DPR ready for Phase II - a 72-km stretch that will cost about Rs 25,000 crore. Metro rail project in Hyderabad, covering 71 km, is being implemented on PPP mode.
if cities like ludhiyana , bhopal os trying to get metro then vadodara also should try so new bus terminal , new airport terminal and mrts will make vadodara world class city

Its reallly unfair for vadodara the delay in every project that makes city led behind in every thing you take the example of many years before Vadodara was 2nd most prominent city of gujarat n now the place is filled by surat now i dont know what is happening

n now metro i think if vadodara would have metro than it will be a very good think and then vadodara would be most developing city for ex. after 2-3yrs vadodara will have many remarkable things like Int cric. stadium,BRTS,Int. Airport terminal n new bus terminal such a bus terminal will be first in INDIA to be built then surat ahemdabad.

Hello friend,
.
But I am disappointed by the way this thread is maintained. I want to request active members esp. sayajinagariVADODARA who posts replies here, plz follow the suggestion explained by GJ10 (few post before on this page).
...:)

Dude, Vadodra was the leading city in Gujarat; these days, it will be lucky if it is even ranked 3. I wish I was as influential as u suggest, but I highly doubt few of my posts will deter others from visiting Vadodra.

If anything, Vadodra might be better served to leverage the gains made by a neighboring city. That my friend is called a Symbiotic relationship.

The point myself and Ajay have been making is that this thread is a mess. Just on an SSCI level, apart from the great Airport updates recently, an outsider reading this thread to try and understand what is going on in Vadodara would not be able to because of too much spamming and irrelevant posts.

Ive made a seperate thread for Vadodara (Baroda) discussions and general news (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=94273867#post94273867), so hopefully we can shift some of the discussions to that thread and keep this one just for projects, renders and construction pics

IIIT Vadodara

The state government, in collaboration with the central government and an industry partner, is setting up a highly advanced Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) near Vadodara at an estimated cost of Rs 130 crore on the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Highly placed sources in the government said the institute is one of the 20 centres planned to be established by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) across the country by 2020, and at least five of it by 2014.

The objective of setting up the advanced institute is to address challenges faced by the IT industry and produce the best quality human resource in the sector to match the global competition.

Gujarat is reported to be the first state to give a favourable response to the Ministry and begun the process for its implementation. The government, sources say, is looking for 50 acres of land for the project near Vadodara.

The state Education department is preparing a detailed project report to ensure its early implementation.

While 50 per cent of the total cost would be paid by the Centre, 35 per cent would be contributed by the state and the rest by the industry partner. The state would provide the land free of cost. The participating industries would also contribute towards research laboratories, internships, faculty chairs etc. from time to time. According to sources, any escalation in the cost estimates would be arranged by the private partners.

The Centre will also provide recurring expenditure of Rs 10 crore per annum for the first four years from the commencement of the institute. The institute is expected to meet its entire operating expenditure within five years of commencing its operation. The Centre will provide monetary assistance for faculty development.

1 good news and 1 bad news for baroda
1) good news (from page of gujarat wikipedia )
Vadodara being the cultural city of Gujarat is fastly growing area wise and is industrialized to a large extent. It is the number 4th city in India in growing fastly
2) bad news ( from page of vishwamitri river wikipedia)
Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) plans to establish a body for the development of Vishwamitri river on the lines of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development. It might take a long time, may be even 20 to 25 years, to develop a riverfront
it is real shameful matter for VMC and even in so many articles vadodara is published as khaodara

World class football academy to be set up in Vadodara soon (http://zeenews.india.com/sports/football/world-class-football-academy-to-be-set-up-in-vadodara-soon_747870.html)

A national football academy, that will be at par with the best in the world, will soon come up in a township in Vadodara, which is expected to provide a much-needed fillip to the sport in India.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF), along with its commercial and marketing partner IMG-Reliance, on Thursday presented a 360 degree plan of football development in India with a common vision of the country participating in the 2026 World Cup.

"Reliance Industries is donating its township facility in Vadodara free of cost for setting up a national academy at par with the best in the world," a source in the know of things, told PTI.

The AIFF`s commercial partner is in touch with an international group that specialises in setting up world class football academies and running them.

"They are seeking partnership with international group with proven record to ensure high-quality coaching. The academies set up by this group have produced many world class players," the source said.

The township already has four-five football grounds and according to the IMG-Reliance group, building an academy there would be easy.

Besides setting up the academy, both the AIFF and IMG-Reliance are working towards refurbishing the existing stadiums. Discussions are in progress with state associations to push for stadium refurbishments.

"There are groups who have been visiting all the stadiums. Right from seating arrangement to playing fields, everything would be taken care of," the source said.

3As far as the academy is concerned, the goal is to have 80 per cent of national team players from the academy within the next 10 years.

IMG-Reliance will also provide scholarships to 16 talented football players, which will include full-time training and academic education at IMG Academy in Florida.

Regarding India`s wish to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the AIFF and its commercial partner said the country will need a boost from "bottom of the pyramid" as well as at the top simultaneously.

The plan also is to improve and build international level football infrastructure to position India as a preferred destination for hosting AFC and FIFA tournaments, and friendly matches involving the world`s best clubs.

As part of its plan to make Indian football viable, they are focusing on the I-League. Things like how to make it more popular among fans, ensure capacity crowds, get broadcast partner and rope in sponsors were discussed in the meeting.

The I-League is being fully sponsored by IMG-Reliance.

Vadodra is probably the foot-ball capital for Gujarat, if one could be called. This is indeed wonderful news. Reliance probably inherited some decent facilities thru IPCL that could be put to good use.

The standing committee of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) approved the proposal for a beautification project of the outdoor sports complex in Manjalpur area in the city at its weekly meeting on Friday.

The Rs 30-crore complex, currently under construction, will be beautified with plants and lawns at the cost of Rs 5.75 lakh.

The proposal was moved by the Parks and Gardens Department of the VMC through the municipal commissioner on June 8.

After the approval of the standing committee, the city-based company, Varsha Construction was given the contract to maintain the lawns of the football grounds and to plant trees around the complex.

The complex is planned to have a football ground, a hockey pitch, two tennis courts, a basketball court, shooting range, a 400-metre racing track and grounds for kabaddi and kho kho.

Additionally, trees are to be planted along the RCC road that divides the stadium into two and along the walls of the complex according to an official of Nutan Sthapatya, a city-based project management consultant (PMC) for the complex.

The Housing and Building Department of the VMC is handling the construction of the complex.

“Though the sports complex is our project, we had left the lawn and plantation work for the Parks and Gardens Department because they have the required expertise for the work,” said a top official of the Housing and Building Department of the civic body.

Ahmedabad-based PC Snehal Construction Company is constructing the stadium for the city municipal corporation. The work on the stadium had started in 2010. the contractor missed the deadline of April 2011 to complete the work.

The complex is now expected to be ready by September 30 this year.
The dream project of constructing two stadiums (indoor and outdoor) for city’s sports fraternity has taken a firm shape now as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is planning to take up the issue in the coming standing committee meeting on Thursday.

Sources said officials may finalise the construction company which will take up the project. The proposal for the same has been moved on Monday in which companies have been shortlisted and the final decision will be taken on Thursday.

While the indoor stadium will be constructed under Town Planning Scheme number 11 (final plot 358), the outdoor stadium will be taking shape in Town Planning Scheme number 19 (final plot 353) in Manjalpur.

The lowest bid for the Indoor Sports complex has come from M V Omni Project (India) Ltd.

The company has quoted Rs 34,16,54,986, which is 7.98 per cent above the estimated cost of the project.

Similarly, P C Snehal Construction Company has quoted Rs 24,78,40,286 to construct the outdoor sports complex in Manjalpur, , this indoor stadium will be biggest in gujarat

NGO proposes country's first centre for indoor air quality research

VADODARA: One usually associates pollution in cities with obnoxious traffic fumes and dust outside. But strange as it might sound, it is the indoors that are more polluted and a matter of concern.

A scientist from the city has taken up the onus of conducting a research on this and has also proposed to start an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) research centre in the city. If the research centre materializes, it would be the first of its kind in the state.

The scientist and director of the NGO Ashilite Pollution Research Society, Bharat Dikshit, made a presentation to Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) officials last week regarding the effects of IAQ and how it was a major health hazard. Dikshit said that IAQ was three to nine times more polluted than the outdoor air quality, but there was little awareness regarding it.

While Dikshit has been working on IAQ since several years now, he says that he came across only handful of countries that had systems in place to look into the issue. "Research abroad shows that IAQ is a bigger threat than outdoor pollution. A study by Sheffield University in UK reveals that even in Sheffield, the quantum is three times higher in homes there than that of outdoors," Dikshit said.

Suspended particles, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, dust mites, formaldehyde and redone are the main contributors to indoor pollution. "Even the World Health Organization has expressed concern over the issue," Dikshit said. He said that the main pollutants were stoves in the kitchen, other domestic appliances, household cleaners, cosmetics and insect repellents besides others.

Dikshit said that he and like-minded people have been contemplating to set up the centre near the city since quite some time now. "Even if the GPCB or the state government has limitations, we propose to start it on our own. If the government takes an initiative, we will join it," he said.

Heavy vehicles banned around Amitnagar flyover

VADODARA: The traffic authorities have imposed a complete ban on the movement of heavy vehicles around the Amit Nagar circle due to ongoing construction of the flyover on VIP road.

Earlier, heavy vehicles were banned from moving on that road between 10 am to 1 pm, but due to the traffic volumes in the area and presence of several schools and commercial complexes in the vicinity, the restriction was found to be insufficient. To avoid accidents and congestion on the stretch, now, heavy vehicles would not be allowed to enter between 9 am to 10 pm on the road from Utkarsh circle to Amit Nagar circle and vice versa.

Further, the traffic police have also banned parking in the service lanes on both sides of the upcoming over-bridge to decrease traffic congestion on the stretch.

As an alternative route, vehicles heading for Amit nagar circles can take a turn from Utkarsh circle to Muktanand circle and to Karelibaug water tank crossroads to arrive at Amit nagar circle. Those heading for Utkarsh Circle can take the opposite route.

As another alternative, vehicles can turn from Utkarsh circle towards GIPCL circle and on to Sama road to reach Amit Nagar circle.

The construction of the flyover started in November 2011 and was targeted for completion with in 15 months.

Agency to install dancing fountain at Kamatibaug

VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will take up the work on a laser and musical dancing fountain at Kamatibaug on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. The civic body has identified an agency that will take up work on the fountain.

The VMC had made a proposal for the fountain in its budget for the present financial year along with a toy train. While the train got a nod in July from the standing committee, the committee will take up the work for the fountain on its agenda later this week.

VMC officials said that four companies had shown interest in the project and their presentations were seen by a committee formed by the VMC to see the project through. After detailed examination of the technical bids and financial aspects, the civic body has zeroed down upon a contractor Cube Constructions. The VMC administration has proposed that a memorandum of understanding should be signed with the company for the fountain. tnn

While the civic body will provide the space, the contractor will install, operate and maintain the fountain. A committee formed by the VMC will also decide the ticket rates for the show of the fountain.
