If the tower in Guangzhou is looking like that, it is pretty nice.

And the "gravity ride" if that is what it sounds like...that would be a freaky experience ... tho maybe not as freaky as the roller coaster on top of the Las Vegas tower.

CN Tower had the crown for more than 30 years. It is ok to pass it on.

 To the CN Tower - it's been a great ride and a heck of a view!

Cheers, m

Sure, why not. Mods have power of decision. However, it doesn't quite keep with the format of the other threads. Maybe a sticky?

It took 30 years for CN Tower to be eclipsed. And now there's a new one that eclipses it every few months!

So this is about TV towers. And took 41 years for ESB to be eclipsed. We don't need a TV tower in NYC but it would be nice to have one. We should build on across the river in Brooklyn that way it would stand out.

really impressive. i couldnt imagine a tower double the height of our tallest (sydney tower-309m)

1-Burj Dubai 818m
2-Shanghai Tower 632m
3-Pentominium 618m
4-Tokyo sky tree 610,6m
5-Guanghzhuo Tv Tower-610m

^^ i know Cul, but what is for example the Burj Dubai? Isn't it a TOWER anymore? When not what is it? A tall building and aren't tall building supposed to be called towers? I mean, tell me the differerence of the use of the word tower for a structure like the Tokyo Sky Tree and the Burj Dubai?! Both are TOWERS both are designed to be selfsupported! A treadttitle like "world's next tallest selfsupported communicationtower/TV Tower" could be a better chioce, or not? So as i mentioned in my post from last page, i think that the Burj Dubai is currently the world's tallest selfsupported TOWER, therfore the diagram on page 1 should also contain one TOWER that is taller than the Burj Dubai!

I hope you get my point Cul.

CULWULLA

my idea of a tower is a structure built with a shaft and turret ,topped with mast. no floor after floor like a skyscraper.
on skyscraperpage. you click the "tower" tab and you will get a line up of telecommunications towers. if you click mast you will get masts.
same goes for skyscraper which are listed as ";highrise"
a tower is very different to a skyscraper. totally dif structures and engineering.

I agree with you, indeed CTBUH use a criteria to separate "tower" and skyscraper :

"A tall 'building' can be classed as such (as opposed to a telecommunications tower) and is eligible for the ‘Tallest’ lists if at least 50% of its height is occupied by usable floor area."

PHILIPPINES PAGCOR STARTS CONSTRUCTION OF ENTERTAINMENT CITY (http://www.individual.com/story.php?story=97270452)
MANILA (March 4, 2009) (http://www.individual.com/story.php?story=97270452)

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has finally started the construction of the country's largest and premier entertainment city. Dodie King, vice president for Corporate Communications of Pagcor, said the P25 billion (US$513 million) entertainment city, which is similar to Las Vegas and dubbed the Bagong Nayon Entertainment City Manila, will be the premier hub of entertainment and tourism in Asia. Pagcor was developing and creating various entertainment activities such as musical plays with the magical show "Wanders" as its initial offering. The entertainment city was expected to generate over 250,000 jobs during the construction and its operations by completion in 2012. Pagcor expects to double its income to US$1.3 billion once the new entertainment city becomes operational.

yeah even until now people in manila sea two cranes clearing the land and doing some digging at the proposed ecity... no structure is rising though..

genting of malaysia will build the tower as the cenrpiece of the ecity and its hotel casino. hopefuly they can rush up things but genting is currently developing a hotel in newport city(philippines) near NAIA and after it they'll proceed to the ecity.

aruze is making only a hotel, high end retails and amusement parks with manila eye as its centerpiece the same with the london eye but its partly dipping on the manmade lake. :)

huughh... too long for waiting... :)

WOW nice diagram, the CN tower was for its times a real giant, it took 33years to build a taller broadcasting tower and that only with a difference 57m, what isnt a great jump for three decades. I hope once someone will build the Burj Dubai of TV towers, with a difference of several hundred meters to the then world record holder. A tv tower with lets say 1000m or 1200m......with an ob deck at 1km!...

on skyscrapers in the 4th ctbuh criteria :
4. Height to Tip
Height is measured from sidewalk level of the main entrance to the highest point of the building, irrespective of material or function of highest element (thus including antennae, flagpoles and signage).

1. It hasn't been approved;
2. The proposed height has been reduced to 300m;
3. The Civil Aviation Authority will have the final say as the proposed site is next to a major airport. Think about it.

there is no final decision about reducing the height... although there some article release that these tower reduce to 300m we still proud having this iconic tower....there is no final renders release..

Skytree is a real tree by growing 24m.!
NEW OFFICAL HEIGHT-634M/2080FT
reason is because skytree people foud out Guangzhou was also 610m. so 24m was added to antenna to achive tallest structure in china ,beating Shanghai tower also by 2m.
only burj dubai will be higher!

CULWULLA

of course they are to scale.

I see the future. after that the chinese will put a 4m Spire on their construction to beat the skytree by 2m.

I hope this is not true though. I'm still hoping for a Supertall landmark in my home country. Gramercy and Stratford are not aesthetically distinct enough to make an impact on the Manila Skyline, I think.

I have to say though, that the renderings of the Pagcor Tower does not match the grand scale of its purported height. Perhaps an international design competition should be held. Not only will we see better designs, but also, the media attention that such a competition attract is free advertisement for the Pagcor City, Manila and the Philippines.

Just my $.02.

2 CULWULLA: Nice work with nice updates. One simple question.
Why Ostankino TV ower is not in the diagram? It is 500+ m and for a few years it was "The world's tallest self supported tower". You have a finished model of it in the large "tallest scrapers" diagram.
