I've been asked by a fellow member to post some photos of icons I have painted. Two are shown below....perhaps there are some more iconographers out there?

Thanks for the nice comments! The large one took me over 9 months to complete! EngineerGreece...it has interested me that many people who aren't church fans like to look at icons purely as an art-form and not as a means of spiritual contemplation. I think this is why they have a broader appeal nowadays.

thank you

I might not believe to the divine but I appreciate and respect our traditions. Because this is what we are today. This is something common that unites all Greeks. :)

Do you actually do this for a living or as a hobby in your spare time?
My parents knew a guy here who used to do it, we have an icon of the Virgin Mary and Jesus that he did for us. I should ask my mum where she's put it.

Hi 1821....it's just a hobby at the moment...I would need to learn to paint much quicker if I were to make a living at it! A friend of mine in Greece wants me to paint one of Saint Pantelimon for him but he may have a long wait!

It would be nice to see your parent's icon posted here.....

Hey nice work Future Greek, I am a hobby artist myself (oils/landscapes) but I haven't ventured to try iconography. Its hard to tell from the photos I assume the first large one is on wood, but the smaller icon appears to be painted on canvas? What medium does one use for icons? Have you any plans to paint in a church? I enjoy looking at images of the Pantokrator on Church domes or the Panagia at the Apse of the Church because I always thought it must be really tricky to paint on a curved surface without it look distorted.
