She's the girl next door! Built in 1967, but recently (2004) renovated/recladded 77m tower. 6th tallest tower in Leeds. Still awaits full occupation in the current climate :ohno:

I'm quite fond of her, but what do you guys think?

With her big sister, Opal Tower (my house!) Who's prettier?

Clarence dock tower can be seen half way up Tower North to the right of it, and St. Peter's square (49m U/C) can be seen between the two towers. Yes that's my camera in the reflection, taken from the university building across the road. That concrete mess in the foreground is soon to become Leeds Arena.

Please rate Tower North and not Opal Tower!!!

I've always thought that if buildings were to have a gender, they would be male- as they are in French and Spanish.

Opal Tower's a tart though - look at her lipstick! And anyway, there's no harm in a bit of personification.

True, I suppose it could be described as lipstick. Some buildings are definitely male though- The Gherkin most notably.

Buildings that curvy surely can't be classed as male. The gherkin's a glamour model, maybe even a milf. Opal is an ugly, square-faced farmer's daughter with too much make-up on.

Yes true about the curvy thing. I think the fact that skyscrapers emulate male genitalia so much is why most of them surely have to be male. One Canada Square has to be male.

Yes, certainly. Most boxes tend to be male. Big concrete school-yard bullies.

I like this building, its much better then Opal!but how could it be worse!I think it looks really smart and slim! for me the best tall building around that area!

Its a decent quality generic building, not exactly a landmark to Leeds (it could be anywhere) but it looks clean and sturdy. So I say a 7. Not awesome but good quality.
I like the photo with the two red buildings too.

It's ok but it could be vastly improved with a decent lighting scheme. The major thing that I don't like about the building though is that there's about 5 bits of cladding that have fallen off, which is a bit shit if you have to walk past it to get to work as I do!

Looks a hell of a lot better than it did, it used to be very grim indeed!

It used to have a very faint purple lighting system I think.
I've not seen it for a while though.

7. Think its quite reasonable myself. Could definitely be made better, nice sleek glass re-clad in time for the arena, but seen as it was re-done in 2004 cant see that happening! Are you sure its un occupied because i'm sure i've seen it with the lights on?

Definitely helps to add to the bulk of the area though especially when standing in the car park opposite Ventura.. I vote more towers in this area :okay:

Only a couple of floors are being used - there are "To Let" signs all over the base of the tower.

It's a cheap, unimaginative re-clad but it's improved what was an awful eyesore.

What's happpening with the cladding panels that have been removed? I like this tower but it looks awfull with those panels missing.

Well spotted Sindy! I presume you prefer her to Opal Tower/Plaza? :tongue2:

Does anybody know the height including the Spire? I think it's possibly taller than Opal Tower?

My photobucket account's been suspended 'til the 3rd of April because I hosted too any pictures last month (:ohno:) don't worry guys! They'll be back before you know it!

...and I noticed a lot of lights on in the building earlier - my mistake as I usually see it with only a couple of floors lit up so presumed it was more empty than it actually is. "To Let" signs around the base still, and somebody's nicked some of the cladding.

It was nice to see work on the Leeds Arena site earlier - hopefully the Arena will attract more people to the area and this may result in new cladding panels on Tower North! (and more people in Weatherspoons - £2 a pint earlier!)

I'm sure that with the spire on Tower North, it must be higher than Opal. The structure ontop of the roof is quite significant.

I prefer the tower to Opal, but not to The Plaza.

uninspired reclad if I'm honest and marks knocked off further as she sits on a hill, thus prominent on the skyline.
