classical in theme yet fully contemporary in sensibility. Wow, great church! Hopefully we're getting over dull mechanicistical/industrial sensibility of XX century that seen architecture and artistical details as an obstacle towards a "concrete future", where they supposed everything would be dominated by technique, engineering and the goal of the "superation of men". Where timeless beauty was purposedly supposed to be out of fashon just because not economically worthy. We never needed that. Thanks architect Duncan Stroik to get us back to the right way off these muds! ;)

yes i do confirm my sentence. :) mechanization and industrialization is now almost completely over. We're in a post industrial world, according to many analyst. Why pretend we're still in XX century anymore? Need to move over, need to get something new and get back to drawing and architecture. We left those fields almost completely blank in XX century, and they now need urgently further developments. ;)

Yes we are. Classicism never fell out of fashon. It just was too expensive to achieve in a period where houses were insufficient and architect became "industrial designers" to build in a chapy way, that's all about modernism. We're over that phase, now we can start again our research in architectural beauty, that has been suspended for social purpose in XXth century. We're by no means less capable to achieve beauty today than Brunelleschi was in XV century. ;) Time to move on and go toward a "XXIth century style".

I totally agree with you but when I see some of the totally freaky junk that has been on the drawing boards recently and has only been halted by the economic downturn I do wonder if we are not entering a new dark age of architecture, different from, but just as depressing as the 1960's and 70's. I hope I;m wrong and these monstrosities are never built. At least in the U.S. they keep the classical flag flying and to a lesser extent in Europe, though the reconstructions of wartime/communist losses in the Eastern States are cause for hope as they have proved extremely popular with citizens and visitors alike.

Yeah I see your point. These are freaking times for lovers of architecture as an art and not as a branch of experimental materials engineering ;) Yet I see no other way out of this architectural (and artistical) "cul de sac" if not through a new kind of classical contemporary tastes...
