Properly speaking, the title of this Thread should say "PREP". If I'm not wrong, "U/C" means tha the foundations are done and the first columns start rising.

They finished the demolition of the Construction that used to be at the site.

http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/372/dsc08459su9.jpg

(By ominorg of the mexican forum.)

Now they need to move this historic edification to make room for Torre Reforma. Notice the Proximity with Torre Mayor (in the background of the pic).

http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/479/dsc08460og6.jpg

(By ominorg of the mexican forum.)

This is how this histioric edification looks now, before being moved:

http://i42.tinypic.com/317f4na.jpg

(By /-/_E_C_T_O_R 8§8 of the mexican forum.)

Once at its new position, it will be integrated to the Project. Caffés and Restaurant will be located here. This will be awesome when done.

I examined the site of the Torre Reforma on Wikimapia and saw that a "gay disco club" may have occupied the site. That disco club was probably demolished to make room for the tower and mostly that historic edifice's new place.

That place is not going to be demolished, the old mansion is going to be part of the the project.

The best of this tower is that will match very well to the Torre Mayor , Paseo de la Reforma and Torre Bancomer (preproject on design).

Btw, the demolished buildings were some small, old, ugly and commercial buildings, but i dont have a pic, for sure we may find some one in the mexican forum

You are a good observer. Actually that building is being demolished to make room for another tower, which will be even taller: Torre Bancomer, that it's supposed to be reaching 278 m.

Torre Mayor is getting a lot of new neighbours and won't be alone anymore

That's awesome, it will make a nice cluster of tall buildings together!!!
I wonder why this building is being taken down by sections, will this building cause damage to others near by if it gets demolished all at one?

^^ Well, there are lots of pedestrians all the time, so I guess its just a safety measure.

BTW, here's a new rendering found in the Mexican Forum. All credits to its owner (luisja?). It does not show the other skyscrapers to be built right across Paseo de la Reforma:

That's a great video. It seems that all of the magnificent towers are near one another.

I'm really impressed with Mexico City and its thousands of years of history. I wish I could attend Mexico's bicentennial as a country (at least in its current form) this year.

For those who haven´t noticed this is the Torre Reforma thread, NOT the "top 10 cities in the Americas" thread, so if you people want to start a discussion about that subject then please take it somewhere else.

Btw, this is not the "show off the Mexico City skyline" thread either so please stick to posting relevant information about the Torre Reforma project.

Can't be sure about that building in particular, but the reconstruction and cultural cleansing started with gusto in about 1680 onwards, this building wont be later than 1750

Edit:

It was built in the 1920s, but is of the style

This is an update of how the crane looks like during this weekend (originally posted by niztnanot), and a sketch originally posted by Hook89.

http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/2469/img0794.jpg (http://img803.imageshack.us/i/img0794.jpg/)

Beautiful! after a period of several months when the tower looked like it had come to a standstill (they were working underground, though) we'll finally see how TR emerge from the ground up to its beautiful 244 m high!

http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/1709/reforma.jpg

This sketch shows the increasing width of the tower as the height increases.
It will be a great addition to Mexico City's skyline

For those of you that don't follow the mexican subforum I post here a forumer's rendering of how the area will look like in the near future. There are no threads about many of these buildings here but they are real proposals or underconstruction skyscrapers.

http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/9505/cdmexreforma1g.jpg (http://img808.imageshack.us/i/cdmexreforma1g.jpg/)

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/9999/cdmexreforma1h.jpg (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/cdmexreforma1h.jpg/)

From left to right the first two buildings are proposals and all the others are either built or underconstruction including the building which RobertWalpole asked about.

I hope you can now have a better idea of how the cluster which Torre Reforma will be part of will look like

^^That new tower in the middle (west of Torre Mayor) will never go onto that site. The site has been saved for a 9-storey wing like the one added to the east of the Torre Mayor in 2009. But an existing highrise building will have to be torn down first.

Modernity doesn't make a city beautiful, people always forget that. There's cities in Mexico and Canada that i'm sure are worth the nomination...

I don't only look at modernity. But I also wouldn't go as far as to say that modernity DOESN'T make a city beautiful. Under the circumstances modernity can indeed make a place look beautiful.

I also think of other cities, which are not modern, as beautiful. For instance, Guadalajara or Guanajuato in Mexico I think they are beautiful, and they are not modern at all. But also Toronto, where I live, is very modern but it's also very beautiful.

Why did they change the Torre Reforma 432's design??? The original one was so awesome...I'm really disappointed.

New design :(:

That's not Torre Reforma... That's the new design for tower R432.
Torre Reforma continues with the same design originally planned.

^^ Thats not the correct thread, Torre Reforma (this one), its number is 509, and its avenue is Reforma, so it's Reforma 509, the other will also be on Reforma but in the Number 432, so it's Reforma 432, two totally different towers.

No, this tower is Reforma 483, Reforma 509 is on the other side of Torre Mayor, the one currently awaiting for the existing building to be demolished. Reforma 432 is further down Reforma, like two blocks away on the east bound side. Neither Reforma 509 nor 432 have started, both are awaiting to solve their respective issues. Hope this clear things up.

Ok, so today I'm bringing an update by forumer Gerardos from SSC Mexico. According to information obtained by him through someone involved in the project, the tower has kept a good pace. According to the source, most of the work has continued throughout the basements due to their complexity. In one of the previous updates we saw that there was already columns on site ready to be inserted and then buried inside a concrete column, this was supposed to start today. What this person says is that unlike the tower across the street (Torre BBVA Bancomer) they are trying to finish the basement first before starting with the upper structure, so yeah, that's the update. He was also given some pictures which are below.

Cheers :)

^^No quiere decir que haya 35 niveles bajo el nivel de la calle. Se refiere a que hay entre 10 y 12 sótanos que dan una excavación de -35 m. aprox.... :)

^^It´s not a number of floors underground, but the depth of the excavation, 35 meters, or about 114 feet below ground... So we have around 10-12 basements, not 35!!!!

Cheers!

Like the other forumer already pointed out, the seoncd column is already up. You're also ignoring the fact that there's plenty of work being done below street level, which actually compromises over 50% of the entire project.

Now, again like the other person said, here's an update taken today from a higher perspective.
