View Full Version : 2010 LOC Overhaul
Mo Rush March 18th, 2009, 09:24 AM As I've said before, its absolutely disgusting that I can tell you where the 7845th bolt will be fitted in the freakin London handball venue but it's been almost impossible to find a decent render or seating plan for some of our South Africa world cup venues.
I proposed a major overhaul to the communications strategy(if any exists) of the 2010 LOC based on some very basic items found at the London 2012 website.
This would run from May 2009 to December 2010.
Step 1: Webcams
Example: London 2012 Webcams (http://www.london2012.com/plans/olympic-park/webcams/index.php)
Webcams of a reasonable quality set up at
(i) Each world cup venue ( at least 2 per venue)
(ii) Each major airport
(iii) One major training venue per host city
(iv) Two major infrastructure projects per host city e.g. Main transport interchange/Gautrain/Major road interchange
Durbsboi March 18th, 2009, 09:56 AM Lets start off with a decent website

Forgot to mention, all of these "steps" would start at the website.

african biohazard March 18th, 2009, 11:09 AM Take as an example the FCC volunteer training. I'm a working professional with a lot of responsibilities and they phone me to tell me two days before last weekend that training will take place at Nasrec and that I need to take Friday afternoon off. Jeez!

e.g.
Step 2: Solution to Problem X
Step 3: ...
Example of solution...
Why?
etc.

The cricket world cup volunteer programme was pretty slick and well organized.
african biohazard March 18th, 2009, 11:53 AM Look, its not badly organised from a execusion point of view - its mainly the lack of proper communication. They even ended the training by saying - please don't call us, we'll call you!
african biohazard March 18th, 2009, 11:57 AM To be honest, I'm glad we're dealing with the FCC first - it will help a lot in terms of ironing-out problems before next year. Also, the volunteer programme for FIFA (FCC and FWC) is quite complex - they want volunteers in every functional division - logistics, accreditation, diplomatic services, transport etc etc. Not sure how the cricket programme was organised

They had about 3500 kids !! That was just for the opening.
Try organizing kids! Busses collected people from around Cape Town and took them to the rehearsal venues.
The organizers though had Olympic training.
Durbsboi March 19th, 2009, 09:46 AM I know some one that was part of the volunteer program for CWC07 he said things we very organised and reposibilites were made clear and also guidance given on unfore seen mishaps.
Inertia March 20th, 2009, 08:37 PM The sad thing is that the webcams are powered by MTN, without their initiative there would be absolutely nothing.
I'm starting to wonder how successful this World Cup will be, with only the stadiums and nothing else.
Mo Rush March 23rd, 2009, 08:04 PM Step 2: Central Media Source
Ideally they would use gettyimages.com in a way similar to London 2012.
All official images of progress, whether its video or pics or logo's are access by the world's media through a dedicated 2010 online media source.
For example:
When a sailing venue is completed in London, attached to the press release would be the link to the London 2012 section of gettyimages.com where images are placed, and available for use by the media.
african biohazard March 23rd, 2009, 08:53 PM I wouldn't be surprsed if FIFA execs trust this site more than the LOC for updates ...maybe that's why our dear old friend in Durban was axed?
